Camus is an underrated domaine with good grand cru holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. It's existed, more or less, since 1732, but mostly after the phylloxera epidemic, when Joseph Camus purchased abandoned vineyards. The wines are not filtered, so you'll often find sediment, but this ensures that every iota of flavor from the grape makes it into the final wine. "The prices at this domaine are down-right reasonable," according to the Burgundy Report. "Tasted at the domaine as a ‘family,’ each wine is interesting and follows the hierarchy – there’s a clear dif...

89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a slightly rustic, ferrous bouquet that needs to knit together during the remainder of its élevage. The palate conveys satisfying sapidity and steely tannins. The taut, brisk, stony finish disguises the warmth of the growing season. Superb winemaking on display here. This is Pierre Duroché’s largest cuvée at 57 barrels. (NM)" (01/2020) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of ripe cherries, wild berries, spices and rich soil tones introduce the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, a medium-bodied...

89-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is aromatically similar to the Morey but with more earth influence that extends to the sleek, vibrant and slightly bigger medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent depth and persistence on the youthfully austere finale. This is a very fine Gevrey villages and worth considering. *Burghound Outstanding Top Value!*" (01/2022) 89-91 points Vinous: "The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, which comes from three lieux-dits, has another intense bouquet with dark cherries, violet and touches of cassis fruit, a light...

90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An overtly floral-suffused nose reflects notes of spicy and cool red and dark currant with traces of the sauvage and forest floor. The racy, intense and beautifully precise middle weight flavors possess an almost aggressive minerality while displaying unusually good length on the complex, balanced and youthfully austere finish. This really lovely effort is quite tightly wound so at least moderate patience strongly suggested. *Burghound Outstanding Top Value!*" (01/2021) 90-92 points Vinous: "The 2019 Gevrey-Cham...

88-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A brooding and more densely fruited nose is comprised mostly by notes of backed plum, black cherry and plenty of earth influence. There is excellent punch to the well-detailed middle weight flavors that are shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins on the notably more complex and persistent finish. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (01/2021) 88-90 points Vinous: "The 2019 Gevrey Chambertin En Champs is very closed on the nose touches of rose petal infused the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red...

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet application of wood can be found on the more floral-inflected aromas of pretty and relatively high-toned red berry fruit aromas that are cut with hints of newly turned earth and the sauvage. There is fine volume to the very punchy middle weight flavors that flash both very good depth and persistence on the mildly rustic finale. This has the potential to be an excellent Gevrey villages. *Outstanding!*" (01/2021) Vinous: "The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from vines up to 85 years old. It...

88-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is also quite pretty with its mix of plum, red currant and freshly turned earth wisps. The supple, round and succulent medium weight flavors possess an almost salty and equally refreshing finish that is notably firmer. " (01/2021) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village opens in the glass with notes of wild berry fruit, plums, spices and loamy soil. Medium-bodied, fleshy and elegantly textural, with tangy acids and melting tannins, it will offer a broad drinking window. (WK)" (01/...

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again there is an abundance of earth character to the very deeply pitched and layered nose that blends notes of tobacco, humus, game and violet with those of a variety of dark berries. The powerful, serious and palate coating flavors possess very fine size, weight and concentration while exhibiting excellent length on the robust and dusty finish. This is potentially outstanding, but patience will be required. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (01/2021) K&L Notes: 92-94pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Fine fresh ...

88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux exhibits aromas of cherries, plums, orange rind, smoked meats and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and succulent palate that's ripe and supple, concluding with a savory, meaty finish. (WK)" (02/2020)

89-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Pungent aromas of wood and reduction overshadow everything but a hint of violet. More interesting are the wonderfully refined medium weight flavors that possess both fine cut and minerality before culminating in a chiseled and sneaky long finish that is firm but not so much so that this couldn't be approached after a few years of bottle age. Excellent quality here for a villages level wine. *Outstanding, Top Value!" (01/2021) 88-90 points Vinous: "The nose was showing some reduction, although there seems to be p...

88-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A slightly riper but still fresh nose reflects notes of both red and dark currant, newly turned earth and hints of wood and black pepper. While the medium-bodied flavors are not quite as refined, they're close with a lovely texture as well as good power and focus on the dusty, austere and lingering finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth." (01/2022) 90 points John Gilman: "The 2020 Morey AC is one of the riper wines in the Taupenot cellars this year, as the wine comes in at 14.5 percent, but does not show...

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here too there is reduction and in this case it's enough to mask the underlying fruit. By contrast there is excellent freshness and vibrancy to the medium-bodied and tautly muscular flavors that possess a subtle minerality on the lingering finish that could use more depth. Still, this is both pretty and promising. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (06/2021) K&L Notes: 91-93pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "30% Whole Bunch Fermentation; 40% new wood. 80% is actually 1er cru Baudes and 20% is from the village part of Vé...

91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Reduction presently overshadows the underlying fruit though it does seem ripe. There is very good volume to the plush, round and delicious medium weight flavors that exude a refreshing minerality on the intense, firm and precise finale that also possesses very fine depth and persistence. This is a very good effort that should repay a decade plus of cellaring. *Outstanding*" (01/2021) 93 points Decanter: "From 1ha of vines at the top of the hill above the Clos de Bèze, this was fermented as 40% whole clusters and...

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The very spicy and floral-suffused nose shyly reveals its cool essence of red berries and a discreet hint of earth. The sleek, refined and delicious medium weight flavors possess a gorgeous mouthfeel while displaying better depth on the lingering and firm finish. This isn't particularly dense, but the fruit/acid/tannin balance is impeccable, which should allow this to drink reasonably well after only 5-ish years. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (01/2021) 92 points Decanter: "This is a bit closed on the nose, but lovel...

2019 Thibault Liger-Belair Gevrey-Chambertin "La Croix des Champs"
New!
93 points Decanter: "Produced from purchased fruit grown on a 0.2ha parcel on the flat, eastern side of Gevrey. Half of the fruit is fermented as whole clusters and the wine receives a long ageing in cask (40% new). The result is restrained on the nose, but a lovely red fruit character begins to open with time on the palate. Firm, dense, and very 'Gevrey' in nature. Drinking Window 2024 - 2039. (CC)" (10/2020) 90-92 points Vinous: "From the bottom side of the commune, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Croix des Champs includes 55–60% of whole cluster. It has ...

93 points Wine Spectator: "A concentrated nugget of cherry is bound up in the depths of this red. Features a silky exterior and holds together well, flexing some tannins on the finish. Should come into its own in a few years. (BS)" (09/2017) 89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Au Closeau 1er Cru has a wonderful bouquet of red currant, cranberry and light sous-bois aromas, all very focused and nicely detailed. The palate is equipped with fine, supple tannins that render this a pliant Gevrey-Chambertin, although there is some new oak on the ...

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin "Coeur de Roy" Vieilles Vignes ((88-91ST)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Bright, spicy aromas of black raspberry, cassis, violet and celery seed. Juicy, penetrating and tightly wound, with strong acidity and a serious tannic spine keeping the dark fruit, leather and game flavors under wraps. Finishes with a note of smoky oak. (ST)" (03/2002)
Starting Bid: $100.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine de la Vougeraie Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Bel Air" (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A relatively high-toned and attractively expressive nose features both red and black fruit, earth and lovely floral notes, especially violet. There is good richness and verve to the delicious middle weight flavors that possess a beguiling texture on the long finish that evidences mineral hints on the balanced, complex and lingering finish. This is exceptionally pretty and even quite elegant and for my taste, it has just arrived on the front edge of its peak drinkability though it should drink well for another 15 years. In sum, this is an excellent and refined Gevrey 1er." (08/2013)
