Camus is an underrated domaine with good grand cru holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. It's existed, more or less, since 1732, but mostly after the phylloxera epidemic, when Joseph Camus purchased abandoned vineyards. The wines are not filtered, so you'll often find sediment, but this ensures that every iota of flavor from the grape makes it into the final wine. "The prices at this domaine are down-right reasonable," according to the Burgundy Report. "Tasted at the domaine as a ‘family,’ each wine is interesting and follows the hierarchy – there’s a clear di...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another fine cuvée is the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Bas, a wine derived from the part of this lieux-dit classified at the communal level, where Roty observes his grapes are always especially thick skinned. Offering up aromas of cherries, raspberries, cassis and rose petals, framed by toast oak, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with the most depth and structure of Roty's three lieux-dits. (WK)" (01/2021) 92 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Bas is very well def...

89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a slightly rustic, ferrous bouquet that needs to knit together during the remainder of its élevage. The palate conveys satisfying sapidity and steely tannins. The taut, brisk, stony finish disguises the warmth of the growing season. Superb winemaking on display here. This is Pierre Duroché’s largest cuvée at 57 barrels. (NM)" (01/2020) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of ripe cherries, wild berries, spices and rich soil tones introduce the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, a medium-bodied...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Well-defined aromas and flavors of strawberry, cherry, rose and stone are the hallmarks of this expressive red. It firms up nicely, yet remains poised and sophisticated, with fruit, tobacco and iron accents lingering on the finish. (BS)" (05/2021) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here too the oak is quite subtle and easily allows the more sauvage-inflected aromas of forest floor and various dark berry scents to be appreciated. Once again the mid-palate of the slightly bigger and richer flavors is very supple and rounded that also ...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Well marked by sweet oak, this red nonetheless offers ample black cherry, plum, earth and iron flavors that should emerge with bottle age. It also has a solid grip of tannins that curtail the finish for now. (BS)" (05/2021) 90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is very Pinot in style and particularly aromatically with its pretty and perfumed nose of red and dark raspberry that is laced with floral and soft earth hints. I very much like the underlying tension of the sleek, even silky, middle weight flavors that exude evid...

88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux exhibits aromas of cherries, plums, orange rind, smoked meats and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and succulent palate that's ripe and supple, concluding with a savory, meaty finish. (WK)" (02/2020)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Unfurling in the glass with youthfully reserved aromas of red and black berries, raw cocoa, sweet soil tones and subtle spices, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe Aux Moines is medium to full-bodied, bright and lively, with powdery tannins, a tightly knit core and good balancing acids. This is an elegant, rather reticent middleweight in a vintage with a propensity to produce rather large-scaled wines, and I expect it to evolve with grace. (WK)" (01/2021)

93 points Wine Spectator: "A concentrated nugget of cherry is bound up in the depths of this red. Features a silky exterior and holds together well, flexing some tannins on the finish. Should come into its own in a few years. (BS)" (09/2017) 89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Au Closeau 1er Cru has a wonderful bouquet of red currant, cranberry and light sous-bois aromas, all very focused and nicely detailed. The palate is equipped with fine, supple tannins that render this a pliant Gevrey-Chambertin, although there is some new oak on the ...

89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village includes around 25–30% whole bunch. The well-defined bouquet needs a little more clarity and brightness vis-à-vis the domaine’s other cuvées. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip on the entry. Quite a structured Chambolle-Musigny Village with a finish that more echoes a Morey-Saint-Denis. A finely crafted yet serious Chambolle. (NM)" (01/2020) K&L Notes: Jasper Morris for Inside Burgundy: "From Les Baudes and Les Véroilles. Rich purple in colour, coulis de framboise, super rich. Over ripe p...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of peonies, blood orange, raspberries and red plums preface the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers, a medium to full-bodied, velvety wine that's supple and textural, its powdery tannins cloaked in lively fruit. Like all these 2017s, this will be approachable young even though it has the substance to age. (WK)" (02/2020) 90 points Vinous: "The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru offers a mixture of red and black fruit with scents of black olive and just a hint of licorice. The medium-bo...

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2017 Frédéric Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin "Clos Prieur" (92WS). Wine Spectator: "Supple in texture, this red boasts cherry, black currant, graphite and earth notes. Starts out very elegant for the appellation, picking up firm tannins and more weight on the long finish. Best from 2022 through 2035. (BS)" (03/2019)
