Vigneron by way of butcher, Pascal Janvier is one of those souls destined to make wine, despite himself. Fortunately, he wised up at age thirty and yielded to his inevitable fate. Today, Pascal and his wife Dominique farm a total of nine hectares in the department of the Sarthe in the Val du Loir, a tiny, stony hillside along the Loir River (a tributary of the Loire River), north of Vouvray that is also the most northerly - and coldest - of the regions of the Loire. The "Cuvée du Rosier" is 100% Pineau d'Aunis from 25-year-old vines planted to 1.6 ha of ...

97 points Tim Atkin: "The Drouhin's Musigny is easy to spot in the vineyard because it is planted in an "S" configuration. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2021 Arnaud Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin "Ma Cuveé" ((91-93JM), (88-91BH), (88-90RP)). Jasper Morris: "One third whole bunch (acidity is lower here) 10-15% new wood. The grapes come from southern end vineyards, mostly above the main road except for La Justice. A glowing, beautiful purple, with a hedonistic but not too heady nose. Sublime elegance married to precision. Fresh fruit with white pepper, then a volume of cherry and strawberry fruit, leading to a fine balanced finish. And a great aftertaste." (11/2022)

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2020 Domaine Forey Père & Fils Morey St. Denis. Burghound: "An even more floral-suffused nose offers up its blend of spice, poached plum and earth. The more energetic and notably more refined medium-bodied flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the sneaky long finale. This moderately structured Morey villages is really quite good and worth a look. *Outstanding*" (01/2023)
