Bollinger "Special Cuvée" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
96 points Decanter: "60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Meunier sourced from more than 300 crus, including 85% grands and premiers crus; 15% fermented in old oak barrels. The complexity and richness of Special Cuvée is unparalleled among the entry non-vintage blends of every Champagne house, short of ascending to the mesosphere of Krug. Its grand recipe explains why, built on incredible depth of 50%-60% reserves. Triumphant complexity is a given at Bollinger, but it’s the dynamic freshness and vitality that really set it apart as one of the most afforda...

Ariston Aspasie "Réserve" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
Don't let the name change fool you, this is the same great Champagne that used to be called "Carte Blanche". The Ariston Aspasie reserve is made of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir, and 30% Meunier. A balanced cuvée in every way, this Champagne is clean and powerful at once. It has a natural toasty quality from spending five full years on the lees, and plenty of refreshing zip from the far northern location of the vineyards. No bottle in our inventory transports me to Champagne like this one. It is as true to the terroir and as pure as anything I could wis...

Michel Arnould "Réserve" Grand Cru Brut Verzenay Champagne
Top Pick!
If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger, and Krug in the past, I think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzenay. This is a great party Champagne, since it is full of flavor yet refreshing and moreish. The hazelnut Pinot character, so unique to the village of Verzenay, is pronounced in this wine, and many good tasters have mistaken it for barrel fermentation (it is...

Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé Champagne
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "Cinnamon and dried nutmeg add to the experience of bread dough and rose petals. Flavorful on the medium-bodied palate and finely poised with bright acidity. Medium-long on the finish." (05/2019) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The palest of rosés, this is an elegant, structured wine. Its dryness is balanced by the fine apple and red-currant fruits and the strong sense of minerality. Fragrant and lightly structured, this fine bottling is ready to drink." (12/2020) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A lively rosé Champagne with a pleasin...

Pierre Paillard "Les Parcelles" Grand Cru Extra Brut Bouzy Champagne
Top Pick!
Jancis Robinson: "Deep bronze colour. Surely lots of oak here? Rich on the nose. Almost sweet, which makes the Extra Brut all the more remarkable. Pretty full-on mousse. This is almost more like a pale red burgundy that happens to have bubbles. It has a suggestion of Pinot Gris perfume about it too. Quite a statement! And not a silly price for the distinctive character it offers. A labour of love? *Good Value* 17/20 points (JR)" (06/2020) K&L Notes: I am incredibly excited about the extraordinary quality of this top grower's Champagne. The name might ...

Egrot (formerly Elisabeth Goutorbe) Extra Brut Champagne
Back In Stock!
Elisabeth Goutorbe and her husband Jean-Marie Egrot run their tiny production Champagne house almost entirely by themselves. They get very little help from their cat Maurice, but can rely on Elisabeth’s father, René Goutorbe of Champagne Henri Goutorbe for a little bit of help. Of the 15 acres they own in Ay, Louvois, Tauxieres and Mutigny, they only keep the fruit from their 2.5 best—mostly in Ay, but also a touch of Louvois Chardonnay for balance. Their home straddles the border of Ay and Mutigny, two great terroirs in the Gand Valley of the Marne, whi...

2008 Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
96 points Wine Enthusiast: "While still young, this Champagne has all the makings of greatness. Produced from grand cru vineyards, it already balances ripe white fruits with a firm structure that will age well. It’s relatively dry and has plenty of acidity, which will also aid in the longevity. *Top Cellar Selections 2019* (RV)" (12/2019) 95 points James Suckling: "This is a solid and very dense Champagne with a phenolic and rich texture. Layers of cooked apples and light lemon rind. Brioche and light pie-crust in the aftertaste. Fresh and relatively d...

Ariston Aspasie Brut Rosé Champagne
Top Pick!
Our best deal in pink bubbles! Fans of Billecart-Salmon take note: this is an elegant, dry style that is made entirely from estate-grown fruit in Brouillet. This Champagne is a blend of half and half Pinot Noir and Meunier. The color comes from 12% Meunier that is vinified red, from an old-vine plot that gets quite ripe. It is a very pretty tarnished pink color and has a lazy bead from over five years of aging on the lees. Our current selection has a 2012 base wine. It has gorgeous red cherry fruit on the nose and mid-palate, but still finishes snappy an...

This rosé bottling is 100% Grand Cru Pinot Noir from Verzenay, the northernmost of all the Grand Crus in this northernmost of French wine regions. The whole village faces north, the wrong way, away from the sun, and yet miraculously ripens Pinot Noir, the most difficult Champagne variety to ripen perfectly. Some say it's because of a meteor that in prehistoric times hit the area that is now the village, creating the faux de Verzenay, a forest where the trees bend and fold in on themselves like a dark wood in The Lord of the Rings. The wine is made by ass...

Antech Blanquette de Limoux Brut Nature
Back In Stock!
90 points Decanter: "Gentle apple-aniseed aroma and flavour. Clean and persistent with manifest concentration and a bone dry finish. A well made, elegant wine. (2019 DWWA)" (05/2019) K&L Notes: Antech's Brut Nature is produced with no added dosage, which translates to a super clean and crisp glass of bubbles. It is composed of 90% Mauzac, 5% Chenin Blanc and 5% Chardonnay. All harvesting is done by hand. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, and the wine undergoes a 12-month elevage on the lees, à la méthode traditionelle, before being disgorge...

2018 Antech "Emotion" Brut Cremant de Limoux Rosé
Top Pick!
The Antech "Emotion" is a little something different: a blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Mauzac and Pinot Noir from the AOC Crémant de Limoux in the Languedoc region of southern France. Since the 2012 vintage it has been a huge hit with our staff; now it is back, to make our evenings and dinner parties sparkle just that much more. Composed of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir and Mauzac, it has a pale pink hue, a fine bead, and delicate hints of cherry and strawberry with white floral notes. A crisp, elegant sparkler made in the traditional method, ...

This is one of our most delicate and refined rosé Champagnes and is a combination of 65% Chardonnay, 28% Pinot Noir (vinified white), and 7% Bouzy Rouge Pinot Noir. It's dosed at 4.5 grams per liter and is quite dry. It's made 100% from estate-grown fruit from the Grand Cru of Bouzy on the south-facing slopes of the Mountain of Reims and farmed without pesticides. I find this wine subtle and almost haunting, and it goes very, very well with shellfish. If you are a fan of rosé Champagne with lobster, you have found your perfect bottle! (Gary Westby, K&L C...

2018 Antech "Cuvée Eugenie" Brut Crémant de Limoux
Top Pick!
Jancis Robinson: "Smells like elderflower-scented cream. Pretty and girlish. It makes me think of the lacy clouds of Queen Anne's Lace growing along the roadsides and hedgerows in May. Ripe white peaches. Touch of shortbread bringing subtle autolytic complexity. Soft but well structured. And there are hidden depths to this wine! Françoise Antech suggested pairing it with a ceviche prawn, avocado and grapefruit salad, which I was a bit dubious about, thinking that the wine would not hold up to the strong, sweet-citrus acidity of the grapefruit, let alone ...

2002 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart" Brut Champagne (Previously $180) (Previously $180)
Top Pick!
98 points James Suckling: "Very impressive depth and detail here. The freshness is staggering. Citrus and grilled-hazelnut aromas lead to a palate that has a very concentrated, slightly creamy and taut feel. Super long and dense with lemon curd, white peaches and a toasty build to the finish. Superb!" (07/2018) 98 points Decanter: "Subtle nose of lemon-spiked raw pastry and a harmonious palate of incredible finesse. Scented and perfumed notes of lemon balm, shortbread and lemon zest fill the mind and senses. Utter elegance and happiness follows. (AK)" ...

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A mix of Grenache Blanc and Roussanne and Clairette, and a small amount of Bourboulenc that was brought up in tank and a little bit in old barrels, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc covers a downright classy bouquet of ripe peach, melon, white flowers, and honeysuckle, to go with a medium to full-bodied, fleshy, textured style on the palate. It’s made in a richer style, yet it stays graceful and balanced, and weightless." (10/2020) K&L Notes: Domaine des Sénéchaux has a history dating back to the 14th century, making it one of ...

91 points Decanter: "A very complete and harmonious example, the savoury Pinot undertow of red fruit complemented by elegant Chardonnay, with a gently beguiling creamy texture. Unpretentious and quietly persuasive. (ME, SF, TH)" (02/2017) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay; disgorged in October, 2013): Light gold, with a faint onion skin cast. Spicy orange zest and honeydew on the fragrant, mineral-accented nose. Dry and tightly focused, offering lively Meyer lemon and melon flavors and a deeper su...

Côtes de Gascogne is primarily known for the production of Armagnac; it wasn’t until the last 20 years or so that producers began to take table wine production seriously. Traditionally, these wines would have been distilled into Armagnac. Producers found that by fermenting at lower temperatures in stainless steel, they could develop and preserve more powerful aromatics. Though yields are high, costs have stayed low and the wines are consequently some of the best bargain whites in France. Domaine de Millet is first and foremost a fifth-generation Armagnac...

95 points Decanter: "A fine straw-gold colour with great finesse of bubble flow and mousse. Joyful aromas of apple blossom and ripe pear. A full, defined palate demonstrates richness that will help to give this a long life in the cellar. (ME)" (02/2017) 95 points James Halliday: "An uncommon blend of 40% pinot meunier and 30% each of pinot noir and chardonnay, with 40% reserve wines, fermented in a mix of tank and use of aged oak barrels. Deliberate choice of meunier is the key to its drink any time soon style, which combining elegance, finesse and gre...

We only received 10 cases of this 2014. This is exclusively old vine Pinot Noir (over 60 years) from the best parcel in Patrick's holdings and only one press load. This is vinous, powerful, black fruited Champagne in the mold of the Vieilles Vignes Francaises from Bollinger. Because of the north facing exposure, the wine retains its finesse even at the very high level of concentration that it has. Even the fullest cellar should be rearranged for a little of this. Again, patience is needed, but will be greatly rewarded! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

From the little village of Bethon, the Le Brun de Neuville “Côte Blanche” Blanc de Blancs Champagne is one of the better deals we have had lately in the Champagne Club. Normally priced at $49.99, this all Chardonnay Cham-pagne is based on 2014 with 30% reserves from older vintages. The Sézanne sub region is a valley bordered by chalky hillsides covered in vines in the middle of a high plain of windfarms and wheat. This is the first place in Champagne to harvest, and the riper style of the region comes through in this Meursault like cuvée. The pear fruit ...

2002 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne Late Release (Direct from Roederer 2021)
Top Pick!
100 points Wine & Spirits: "If a wine could ever make you want to pull the top down on your '68 Ferrari convertible, rip off the rearview mirror and take off, this is it. It has a different kind of energy than the '02 Cristal Rosé, which is more ethereal, like strawberries at the right hand of some ancient Gallic god. This is more insolent, brash, earth bound. All the scents and flavors seem to emanate from limestone, as does the acidity, which hits at the front of the mouth and powers through the wine with the kind of solar energy that lifts mist off th...

2013 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
96 points Decanter: "The peak of drinkability is between 15 and 20 years from the harvest; so says Jean-Baptiste, but he has not spared the taster the wondrous early impression of perfection in the making. A soft gold with glistening highlights, like the river meadow at dawn; the nose effortlessly marries a panoply of flavours, the citric grip nodding to hints of passion fruit and Mirabelle plum, with hazelnut and almond signalling the grace of development. Texturally generous, yet tightly wound, taut and flinty yet ripe and open, the wine faithfully und...

Outstanding sparkling wine from the Languedoc? Absolutely and resoundingly, yes! There may be those who would scoff at the price of this wine, and claim that a sparkling wine set so low could never be worth any serious consideration. Well, we're happy to confidently report a counter-claim: those scoffers are WRONG. One of the cult stars of the Languedoc, Jean-Louis Denois makes exciting, world class wines that remain amazingly inexpensive, on account of his location more than anything else. His vineyards sit in the very southwestern corner of France, at ...

Les Vignerons de Fontes is a cooperative winemaking facility in the hills outside the village of Pezenas in the Languedoc. Oenologist Corinne Pastourel oversees the project that has a host of growers spread throughout the region over a range of terroirs. Soil types include schist, basalt, limestone, and clay. Thirty of these growers formed the cooperative in the 1930s and now their numbers surpass 200. K&L co-founder Clyde Beffa met Corinne years ago and forged the relationship that would bring us some of our most popular value wines coming from the sout...

The Gobillard Brut Rosé Champagne is composed of 35% Pinot Noir, 35% Meunier and 30% Chardonnay, all sourced from estate grown fruit in the 1er cru village of Hautvillers, the village where Dom Perignon made Champagne famous with his talent for managing and blending vineyards, and one can still visit his tomb here. This Champagne gets its color from 10% of red wine that is added to the blend before bottling. The care with which the red wine is made is what makes this rosé special. I love the fresh devon cream and frais du bois strawberry character of th...

It is poised between a ripe dosage and a crisp texture, with red fruits and toastiness marking the flavors. It is a fine bottling to enjoy now. (RV)" (10/2020) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Fragrant wafts of smoke and spice accent the steeped raspberry and mandarin orange peel flavors of this tightly meshed rosé Champagne, which is backed by a vivid spine of mouthwatering acidity and is silky on the palate, with hints of dried herb, licorice and toasted almond...

This is four years on lees. 55% Chardonnay and the rest Pinot." (07/2019) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "The nonvintage cuvée from this producer is definitely on the dry side. In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought two hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first-ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. The assemblage consists of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, fermented in stainless steel and in a few demi-muids. If you haven't had the tiny production Champagne, this is a rare opportunity to do so. They only make 14 barrels of this wine, and it is the last of the production from their oldest vines, which were destroyed in the hail of 2003. We only received 36 bottles of this, which is entirely from one vintage, although not labeled as so. It is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir and 25% Meunier that is barrel fermented, but not aged in oak. They bottle in February at Aspasie, so this wine saw less than six months in barrel. A small version of our best deal in bubbles—direct from the Aristons. This all estate-grown wine is aged for an incredible five years on the lees before release, giving real depth and an honest, toasty flavor. It is composed of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir, and 30% Meunier, and is fermented in stainless steel with full malolactic. This is serious Champagne that keeps getting better every year. Zingy is the word." (07/2019) 92 points Decanter: "One of the great signatures of the region, its calligraphy flowing with elegance, panache and balance, the last reflected in the equal proportions of the three great varieties of Champagne. Champagne always tastes better out of magnum. Paul-Vincent Ariston says that his 25-year-old vines reflect the vintage, but the Prestige, made from vines averaging 60 years, reflect his terroir. He feels that putting a vintage date on this wine would be an insult to his best vineyard plots. This vineyard was destroyed by hail in 2002, so this is the last we'll ever see of the old vines. Based on Chardonnay, Marsanne, Petite Manseng, and Sauvignon Gris, its lighter gold hue is followed by a fresh yet also textured white that offers up lots of pineapple and white currant fruits as well as notes of toasted bread, crushed rock, spice, and a touch of flowers. This super rare bottling is made with some of the nearly extinct, native grape varieties of Champagne. It is composed of 40% Petit Meslier, 40% Arbanne, and 20% Pinot Blanc. I think it is the best of the excellent Ariston portfolio. The nose has only hints of exoticism; the overall impression is of rich cream and toast, but underneath is a hint of pine and exotic white fruit from the old varieties. On the palate the Champagne makes for a double take: it is very rich and textural, but finishes with a laser beam of chalky acidity that just goes on and on. ...
