Produced from Loureiro and Pederña grapes grown in the granitic soils of the Vinho Verde region, the Santola (or as we here are calling it, "the crab wine") is a delicious, spritely and refreshing white. It doesn't get much more traditional, thirst-quenching or seasonally perfect then this wine. Delicious, low in alcohol, slightly fizzy and way too easy to drink!

Produced from primarily estate-grown Verdejo, just outside the village of La Seca ("the cradle of Verdejo" as the sign states!), this is a wonderful expression of Rueda. Verdejo, in its refreshing, cleanly fruited profile and tropical leanings, mimics Sauvignon Blanc, without any overt green notes or the occasional blowsiness of some New World examples. Ayre's aromas of white peach and fruit cocktail lead to a palate of fresh fruits, with some minerality adding further structure and focus.

94 points James Suckling: "Unique aromas of dried apples, lemon blossom, almonds and cream. Hints of seaweed. Full-bodied, yet focused and tight with lively acidity and a beautifully composed finish of fruit and flavor. Always a winner here. Screw cap." (12/2019) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "As usual, La Guita is one of the best values in Spain. For a ridiculous price, you can get all the sun of Sanlúcar, saline aromas of the sea and notes of apricot and walnuts in a refreshing and vital Manzanilla, ready for fried anchovies." 2019 Il Bianco Veneto
Top Pick!
This year has been really difficult for Italian producers, restaurants, where most wine is sold in Italy have been closed or partially open. So, for producers, the local market has dried up. I know a producer whose winery was still full of wine but he needed the tank space for the new vintage. He decided (I was very skeptical, by the way) to blend all of his white wines together and sell it all at a tremendous loss (the whites normally sell in the $25-$30 range) just to empty his cellar. I should not have been so skeptical. The wine is predominantly Pino...

A perennial staff and customer favorite, this Vinho Verde continues to deliver the goods, the fizzy, citrus-drenched, delicious goods. If you're looking for a poolside, picnic, or patio sipper, this wine never disappoints.

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fragrant aromas of peach blossom, field flower and ripe white-stone fruit are front and center on the nose. The creamy, savory palate doles out ripe peach, yellow pear and lemon drop alongside bright acidity that gives it a tangy, mouthwatering close. *Editors’ Choice* (KO)" (08/2020)

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 White Wine from Tenshen is made from a blend of Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Chardonnay sourced from sites throughout the Central Coast. Brought up mostly in neutral barrels, with a small part in stainless, it offers rich, full-bodied aromas and flavors of buttered peach, tangerine, honeysuckle and flowers. Richly textured, balanced and with a clean, dry finish, it’s a terrific white Rhône blend readers should check out." (08/2017) Wine Spectator: "Rich and spicy, delivering peach, pineapple and melon flavors...

93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of lemon-rind, white-peach and green-apple aromas follow through to a full-bodied, firm and fresh palate and a long, lingering finish. Shows tightness and crispness down the line." (02/2020) K&L Notes: From biodynamically farmed Torrontes, this wine is produced from some of the highest elevation vines in production anywhere in the world, at more than 7,000 feet above sea level! Very floral aromas with juicy yellow plums and white peaches lead to a lovely, slightly spicy and floral, yet refreshing palate. Another great ...

Côtes de Gascogne is primarily known for the production of Armagnac; it wasn’t until the last 20 years or so that producers began to take table wine production seriously. Traditionally, these wines would have been distilled into Armagnac. Producers found that by fermenting at lower temperatures in stainless steel, they could develop and preserve more powerful aromatics. Though yields are high, costs have stayed low and the wines are consequently some of the best bargain whites in France. Domaine de Millet is first and foremost a fifth-generation Armagnac...

94 points Decanter: "Excellence from a good co-op: fine, lifted, mineral-toned fruit joins crisp acidity and a long, savoury finish. (MG)" (03/2020) K&L Notes: Producer's notes: "It is the wine with which Belisario has experienced the greatest emotions. It was the first Verdicchio in the Riserva type. Produced since 1988 only with Verdicchio grapes vinified with the method of cryomaceration. It matures in steel and partly in toasted oak barrels for at least a year and is refined for another year in the bottle. The complexity of the production is the c...

2018 Buty Columbia Valley White Bordeaux Blend (Previously $25) (Previously $25)
Top Pick!
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Most Bordeaux-style white wines from Washington are Sauvignon Blanc heavy. This one flips the script, along with a heavy dose of Muscadelle that a few wineries in the state are working with. The aromas bring immediate appeal, with notes of whole orange, fig, herb and lees. A full-feeling, textured, flavorful palate follows, redolent with fig flavors. A lingering finish caps it off. It's glorious with a long life ahead of it. Hard to keep your hands off now but will be best after 2023. *Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2020* (SS)" ...

2019 Bodegas Muga Blanco Rioja
Top Pick!
92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Blanco is terrific, with a fresh, crisp, yet still textured and concentrated style. Lots of crushed citrus, white flowers, white grapefruit, and a touch of minerality all define the bouquet, and it's beautifully balanced, with bright acidity and clean, dry finish." (10/2020) 92 points James Suckling: "A layered, fruity white with sliced cooked lemon and some apple. Hints of hot stones. It’s full-bodied and dense with plenty of fruit. From Wine Treasury: "In 1979 Sean Thackrey turned his hand from selling antique books to winemaking. He is definitely not your usual winemaker. Living on the edge of the world down in Marin county he makes these handcrafted wines in his outdoor winery beneath the eucalyptus trees. Sean is the kind of winemaker who makes the “business” of wine the pleasure that it can be. Totally dedicated to the production of his own style of wine, a little eccentric possibly (as so many of the best people are), straight-talking yet generous and very much with the courag...

2019 Zudugarai "Amats" Getariako Txakolina
Top Pick!
Amats is both the brand name of the Txakoli as well as one of Zudugarai's vineyards. It's a beautiful vineyard, a sandy substrate covered in naturally growing green cover between the rows, with the Cantabrian Sea in full view to the north. Produced from Hondarribi Zuri grapes, this is classic Txakoli: zippy, crisp, tart green apple flavors are enlivened by a lovely sparkle from the CO2 retained in tank during fermentation.

96 points James Suckling: "A linear and tight white with superb lemon curd, apple, lemon and creme caramel. Full body, phenolic tension and density give this white form and beauty. Extremely long and flavorful." (12/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of two vintages I tasted of the single-vineyard white, the just-bottled 2015 Capellanía was cropped from a warm and healthy year, and the wine matured in new French oak barrels for 15 months. Like it happened with the rosé, the two vintages I tasted of this white—2015 and 2014—are also ver...

Produced from 100% estate-grown, organically cultivated Xarel-lo, from their oldest plants (40+ years old), this is the taste of well farmed Xarel-lo: salty, with a touch of the ever-present fennel that grows wildly in the zone. The Garriga family, with Toni and Jordi currently at the helm, have been farming this land since the 17th century. While their cava is among our most popular sparkling wines in the store, it is absolutely worth emphasizing that their still wines are also incredibly well made and delicious.

91 points Wine Enthusiast: " One of the few winemakers to tackle this Burgundian variety each vintage, Jim Clendenen presents aromas of dried lemon peel, yellow melon, light mint and a touch of savory wood on the nose of this bottling. The palate offers dried citrus and nut flavors, from Meyer lemon peel to cashew, with a beach-sand minerality. (MK)" (03/2021) K&L Notes: Thought you were savvy to some of the more obscure, "Burgundian" bottlings of California's Central Coast? Try Aligoté. Burgundian? Yes, and no, explains Clendenen: "Aligoté is thought ...

An excellent value in Spanish white wine, the Verdeal Rueda shows just how versatile and appealing the Verdejo grape can be. Bright, fresh, elegant, and well structured. Jesús Puelles is one of the most talented vignerons in Rioja. Hailing from a long line of vineyard worker/owners, Puelles knows the terruño in his little slice of land in the Rioja Alta town of Abalos. Most of the grapes for his red wines come from his own 20 hectares, which are north-facing and located at 600 meters in altitude, affording the visitor with one of the most dramatically beautiful views of Rioja's main mountain ranges: the Sierra Cantabria mountains immediately to the north and the Sierra de la Demanda mountains to the south. 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "This estate makes a brilliant white, and the 2018 Falaise Blanc is no exception. Based on Chardonnay, Marsanne, Petite Manseng, and Sauvignon Gris, its lighter gold hue is followed by a fresh yet also textured white that offers up lots of pineapple and white currant fruits as well as notes of toasted bread, crushed rock, spice, and a touch of flowers. Elegant, with good acidity and building richness, it’s geared for the dinner table and should keep for 4-5 years, probably longer." (06/2020) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocat...

Cantine Marisa Cuomo is a small winery located in Furore on the Amalfi Coast, where the vines grow on terraced slopes, which are also teeming with lemon and fig trees, and peregrine falcons still nest there. 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The eponymous 2016 Tricó is a classic Albariño from 25- to 35-year-old vineyards on poor granite soils that give low yields. The full clusters are pressed, then the juice is let to settle before fermenting at low temperature with neutral yeasts. This stays at least one year in tank before it's bottled. This small, family-run estate in the Côtes du Rhône appellation enjoys much the same terroir that prevails in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with slightly warmer climatic conditions. The Thibon family has owned the property for 300 years, but it wasn't until 1970 when Jean-Pierre Thibon built a winery and set the property on its current course. The Cave Vinum is a white blend of Viognier, Roussanne, and Clairette made from the estate's north facing sites, endowing the wine with a cool edge in an otherwise hot landscape. To honor the 100th anniversary of this well known Rioja white, Cune decided to hit their cellars and uncork a number of vintages to see how they had aged. It turns out that the bottlings from the late 1950's to the early 1970's had aged fantastically, and the person who had made these landmark wines was none other than our friend, the legendary Ezequiel "El Brujo" García! They brought in Ezequiel, who in turn brought in his copious notes, and contributed his expertise and years of experience to the project. This Rioja white is a delicious throwback to Cu...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Amontillado Gran Barquero is an impressive 25-30 years old. It wears a dark amber robe and a subtle, elegant and focused nose. It’s an Amontillado of finesse, with biological, salty notes and roasted almonds, close to the Fino character. The palate shows a medium-bodied wine of a velvety texture, fine acidity and clean, focused flavors, It represents superb value for the quality it delivers. This is a sherry experience not to miss. This wine starts off as a Manzanilla. It spent 8 years under flor and then another 6 years aging in oxidatively. Yes, the math does not add up, but this is not a math class and they don't have to show all of their work, especially when the wine tastes as good as this. It is bracing, that core of Manzanilla, but also rich on the nose, with an incredibly detailed nutty aroma that ranges from almonds to walnuts. In the mouth it is a powerful, focused wine with a subtle cinnamon component, completely dry and incred...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Albariño was very expressive after some time in the glass. This is their house wine, produced with grapes from the 11 hectares and up to 164 plots they work in the Salnés up to 22 kilometers from their winery in Meaño. The wine is very elegant in 2018; it's vibrant and tasty, with the granite sapidity and the salty finish. I tasted a bottle from the end of June 2019, when the wine had had longer time sur lie, and the year in bottle does it good. 70,000 bottles produced. (LG)" (06/2020) K&L Notes: Do Fe...

There's a gentle hint of caramel or honey on the nose, but the bulk of the aromas and flavors are ripe pear, melon and citrus notes. Full-bodied and creamy in texture, it turns briny and zesty on the lingering finish. This is a blend that relies on a classic vision of Loureiro for its personality and style. It has the slight delicacy of expressive Loureiro, and it dances brightly and lightly across the tongue. It is clean and transparent. Fresh and pure, this is a well-priced blend that excels again this year. In fact, the next day it fleshed out and opened up.
