Fallet-Dart "Clos du Mont" Brut Champagne (2006)
Top Pick!
This single-walled vineyard is the top of the line from Fallet-Dart. Although not labeled as a vintage, it is 100% 2006 and composed of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir that is barrel fermented. It is aged for over 12 years on the lees before release. The word "tirage" in French, which appears on the back label, means "bottling", and this all 2006 champagne was bottled in fall of 2007 and has spent an incredible 12 plus years on the lees. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

92 points Burghound: "If you enjoy overtly yeasty Champagne this would make a good choice as there is plenty of it here framing the relatively elegant nose that combines notes of citrus, white flowers, pear and apple scents that display wisps of secondary development. The old vines definitely are in evidence here with fine mid-palate density that is supported by a moderately fine mousse, all wrapped in a delicious, sappy and lingering finish. This isn't a particularly refined example but I quite like it for its complexity and clear concentration." (10/20...

Pierre Paillard "Les Terres Roses" Grand Cru Extra Brut Rosé Champagne
Top Pick!
93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Composed of 65% Chardonnay and the rest Pinot Noir, the NV Champagne Grand Cru Bouzy Les Terres Roses (5% red wine) pours a bright pale pink hue and reveals aromatics of ripe strawberry, fresh bread dough, and candied roses. Juicy and inviting, with a fluffy mousse, it’s full-bodied and has a clean, supple, fruity texture. It’s fresh and savory on the palate, with salty lift and a note of orange zest that leaves a mouthwatering finish. Drink 2024-2040. One gram per liter dosage. (AF) " (11/2023) 91 points Decanter: "Bouzy's repu...

This Champagne is made from one of the very best vineyard sites in all of the Marne Valley, the Clos du Mont in the hamlet of Drachy. It is a barrel fermented blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir and is all 2009 vintage, although not labeled as such. It is dosed low at 2 grams per liter of sugar, and is very dry without being harsh due to the ripeness of the vintage and the more than 10 years of ageing. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

Angelique and Damien (The "A" and "D" of A.D. Coutelas) have 17.5 acres, mostly in Villers sous Chatillon, but also in Ambonny, Bouzy, Vitry-le-François, and Troissy. Their family has been growing since 1809 and started making their own Champagnes in the '20s. The majority of their vines are over 60 years in age, and all the work in the vineyards and cellar is done by hand.

This all-estate Champagne is aged for six years on the lees and is composed of 70% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier. This wine has very fine, brioche like aromas from the long sur lie aging as well as a savory cherry note from the high-quality Pinot. It is very rich and long in the mouth, with a fine bead, again from long aging.

Alexandre Le Brun "Tradition" Brut Champagne (1.5L)
Top Pick!
Now in magnum! Alexandre Le Brun is the smallest producer that we import, or even carry, from Champagne at just seven and a half acres. He only makes wine from half of the grapes he brings in, selling the rest off to négociants—his production is just one thousand cases a year total. This tiny scale allows Alex to do nearly everything himself and his hands-on approach shows through in the finished product. He only uses his own estate fruit for his Champagne, and although small, his land is diverse. He farms 22 plots in eight different villages. Among thes...

92 points Decanter: "Billecart-Salmon's 2019-based Brut Réserve continues the impressive rebirth of this cuvée, showing more focus, length and sapidity than previous versions. The dosage has dropped to 3g/L (from 9g/L in 2016), but the delicious nut oil and brown bread reserve wine depth props up roasted lime and apricot fruit. One to watch. 40% Meunier, 30% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. (TH)" (10/2023) 92 points James Suckling: "Excellent clarity of fruit here with lemon and orange zest, sliced pears, fresh figs and walnuts. Saline components. Medium...

93 points James Suckling: "This is lovely, the aromas and flavors run long into the finish with notes of light butter biscuits, subtle cooked apples and peaches. It's full yet balanced and long. Lovely texture. Lots of flavor and polished textured bubbles. The base in the current release is 2016 vintage. 50% chardonnay, 35% pinot noir and 15% pinot meunier. Disgorged in December 2022." (08/2023) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "As an indication of its complexity, this Champagne is a blend of more than 100 different wines. This nonvintage cuvée is rich, with...

If you haven't had the tiny production Champagne, this is a rare opportunity to do so. They only make 14 barrels of it - and not every year! It is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, and 25% Meunier that is barrel fermented, but not aged in oak. They bottle in February at Aspasie, so this wine saw less than six months in barrel and then eight years on the lees in the bottle before disgorgement. It is incredibly rich, powerful Champagne, but maintains its freshness and minerality quite effortlessly. If you have been a fan Bollinger, Krug, or Tarla...

90 points James Suckling: "A dense and fruity wine with cooked-apple and lemon flavors. A hint of biscuit. Creamy texture. Subtle finish. " (09/2019) K&L Notes: Baron-Fuenté is a négociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction as many négociants buy "sur lattes," meaning in bottle! This delicious Champagne is composed of 10% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 60% Meunier and has been aged three years on the lees. It is fermented at relatively cold t...

90 points Decanter: "Opens with a fanfare of peach, pear and spiced lemon; subtle architecture in the mouth with a chalky subtext and attractive orchard fruit, transported by a flowing mousse. Pretty accomplished and serious. (Panel Tasting)" (02/2017) K&L Notes: If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger and Krug in the past, I think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru o...

One of our best values in a magnum of champagne! This blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir spends at least six years on the lees before release, and comes from the 1er crus of Trépail and Vaudemange as well as the grand cru of Ambonnay. This creamy, brioche filled champagne has a white gold color and extraordinary elegance for the price. This is a poised, elegant wine with perfect bubbles after its long ageing and a clean, dry finish. -Gary Westby

94 points Wine Advocate: "Drawing from a perpetual reserve spanning the 2003–2018 vintages, the new NV Brut Blanc de Noirs L'Or d'Eugène was disgorged in November 2020 with 0.5 grams per liter dosage. Deep and complex, it unwinds to reveal aromas of pear, honeycomb, fresh pastry, paraffin wax and confit citrus, followed by a medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy palate that's seamless and concentrated, girdled by lively acids and complemented by a saline finish. (WK)" (01/2022) 92 points Decanter: "Coming from a perpetual reserve started in 2003, it'...

Wine Enthusiast: " With its high proportion of Meunier, this Champagne is a ripe generous wine that has rich pear and kiwi flavors that are full and tangy. The wine is ready to drink. (RV)" (12/2020) K&L Notes: This Champagne is composed of 80% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir and is aged three and a half years on the lees. The exotic, pure Meunier fruit in this Champagne marries with the creamy, delicately toasty aromas and flavors. The wine has no trace of sherry-like oxidation or bruised apple malic character that Meunier-based Champagnes sometimes hav...

93 points Decanter: "Richly biscuity on the nose, with steamed rice, fresh pear and citrus blossom complexity. Creamy mousse dissolves into red apple peel, lemon and stone fruits, with a depth of honeyed biscuits. The Reserve NV from Pol Roger is a blend of base wines from at least three vintages. With 6 months of post-disgorgement ageing, the wine is ready to enjoy now. (SW)" (10/2021) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is the nonvintage cuvée from this producer. It is in a rich style, with a high proportion of Pinot Noir, very much the house style. Thi...

Veuve Clicquot Brut Champagne

94 points Decanter: "Lemony richness on the nose, a struck match character that falls in with lemon vanilla note. Toffee apple allure on the palate with chalky coolness & savoury nutty finish. (Panel Tasting)" (10/2020) 91 points James Suckling: "This has aromas of grapefruit, pomegranates, and biscuits. It’s honeyed and sleek with a medium body and supple bubbles. Soft and creamy finish. Majority pinot noir, with chardonnay and meunier. Around 40% reserve wines. 10g/l dosage." (02/2023) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This ever-popular Champagne is gett...

94 points Vinous: "The 2011 Billet Doux, Morlet's Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc sweet wine from a site in Alexander Valley, is terrific. Then again, the cool, rainy vintage provided optimal conditions for achieving rot in the vineyard, which gave growers fits with the reds, but was a positive here. Orange peel, burnt sugar, apricot jam, coconut and tropical frits honey and wild flowers are all beautifully delineated in the glass. Ample, rich and super-expressive, the Billet Doux is superb today. The 2011 has 95 grams of residual sugar, but tastes and feels qu...

91 points John Gilman: "The current bottling of Taittinger’s “Brut La Française” shares the same cépages as the Brut Réserve (forty percent chardonnay, thirty-five percent pinot noir and twenty-five percent pinot meunier), with the wine spending one additional year aging on its fine lees prior to disgorgement. The bouquet on the wine is lovely, offering a classy blend of pear, apple, a complex base of limestone soil, bread dough, gently musky, meunier floral tones and a bit of smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, full and ze...

Founded in 1662, Masumi has long been considered one of the great names in sake production. The brewers describe Mountain Flower: "Fresh and fragrant, Sanka conjures images of an alpine meadow in spring. This is a subtle, elegant sake with aroma notes of peach, banana, and aniseed."

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This Champagne has the necessary bottle age for its bone-dry character to be softened and given great complexity. The wine’s freshness and apple fruits are palpable but they have attractive nutty hints that make this fine bottling ready to drink. (RV)" (12/2020) K&L Notes: The Laurent Perrier Ultra Brut is one of the very few Champagnes shipped naked, with no dosage (finishing sugar) at all. It is a very special blend, made only from exceptionally ripe harvests. This cuvee is composed of half Chardonnay and half Pinot Noir f...

2020 Château de Nalys (E. Guigal) Grand Vin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "On another level, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Grand Vin Blanc is a deeper, richer white that still stays incredibly focused, pure, and balanced. White peach, toasted brioche, spice, honeysuckle, and more stone fruits define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, has just about flawless balance, a gorgeous texture, and the depth, balance, and class to evolve for 15 years in cold cellars." (12/2022) 95 points Decanter: "The oak is present and integrated but not excessive and it doesn't rub out the fine definition and terroir e...

However, the sheer density of flavor will be something new to many, as will the stunning acidity at the finish. " (08/2018) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe aromas of apricot, raisin and chocolate offer complex notes of dried cheese and sweat, making this anything but usual and normal. A jacked palate is racy and untamed, with bright acidity that's uncommon for wines this sweet. Chocolate, cinnamon, nu...

Very long, subtle and uplifting finish. Drink now." (12/2018) 95 points Decanter: "Layers of mouthwatering flavours; dried fruits, peanut brittle, cream caramel, coffee, cedar and a beautifully luscious texture with freshness, lift and a long, rich finish. *Gold Medal Decanter World Wine Awards 2018*" (04...

90 points Wine Advocate: "From a parcel planted in 1949, the 2021 Bourgogne Aligoté La Charme aux Prêtres reveals scents of pear, peach, clear honey, fresh mint and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and ample, it's underpinned by racy acids and concludes with a saline finish. (WK)" (01/2023) Vinous: "The 2021 Bourgogne Aligoté Charmes Aux Prêtres has a light flor-like scent on the nose, quite primal. The palate is well balanced with fine delineation, fresh but just needing more substance to develop on the finish. (NM)" (11/2022) Burghound:...
Price: $69.99

94 points Decanter: "This is great white Burgundy that happens to be made from Aligoté. The wine boasts aromas of ripe pear, exotic spice, and fresh tarragon; the texture is dense and deep, with crisp acidity equally balanced by enormous extract. The wine is made from ninety-year-old vines in Chenôve’s Clos du Roi vineyard planted in thin clay soils with high iron content and limestone pebbles (grèzes litées). Pataille works the vines with a horse, and ‘weaves’ the vine shoots rather than cutting them. The result of these labours of love is an absolutely...

Louis Roederer "Collection 243" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "Dried-lemon, apricot, green-apple, salted-almond, walnut and light caramel notes. Vinous and layered, with small and tight bubbles. Excellent focus and intensity. Based on 2018, with reserve wines going back to 2009." (06/2022) 93 points Vinous: "The NV Collection 243 is bright, punchy and wonderfully effusive, the 243 really shows the more vibrant style Roederer is going for with their new entry-level NV bottling. Citrus peel white, flowers, mint, slate and a host of saline notes build nicely. This is impressive, to say the ...

94 points Wine Advocate: "I had not tasted the Subtil for a long time; 2013 was the last with Chardonnay, and they didn't produce 2014; and in 2015, they changed to 100% Xarel.lo refermented with organic must. The 2018 Subtil is from the vineyard Finca Serral del Roure, which has a little more clay and a tendency to produce a rounder wine. It has 11.5% alcohol with very good freshness, reflecting a cooler year, and there is some spiciness and a yeasty touch with a medicinal and balsamic twist and a very tasty finish, almost salty, long, lively and with a...

96 points Wine Advocate: "The NV Tradition Heritage Cuvée 3 Years Edition 850 is a multi-vintage blend based on the 2018 vintage combined with the 2016 Renner and the 2016 Gaisberg. The inaugural bottling displays a golden-yellow color along with a rich, highly refined and flinty bouquet of great complexity, intensity and charm. Nothing reductive here—this is as seductive as Tannhäuser’s Venusberg, and there is nothing but temptation due to some Traminer-like aromas. 96 points Wine & Spirits: "The wines that make up this Palo Cortado have an average age of more than 25 years. Originally, it was aged in Calle Ponce in the city of Jerez; hence the initials still printed on the label. During aging, the wine is refreshed with Fino Inocente and Amontillado Tío Diego, two other top bottlings in Valdespino’s portfolio. The end result is a wine that smells smoky and rich in caramelized flavor, but tastes dry to the bone; all those ripe flavors become the purest mineral impressions. A sense of chalky albariza soil floods the ...

It is a very serious Oloroso, even if it’s not totally dry. It offers bitter almonds, hazelnuts, incense, Cuban cigar ash, and dark chocolate as well as a complex, a very intense, round and ample palate. This wine really fills your mouth. Very intense and with great acidity, it represents very good value for the quality it delivers. A tamed beast. I’ve often ...

There is great elegance and purity, and a finish that lingers attractively. The grapes come from a 0.3ha holding in the village of Marsannay where the oldest vines were planted in 1932.
