92 points James Suckling: "Chocolate, licorice and plums. Some mint and candied violets. Intensely juicy and full-bodied on the palate with pure dark fruit and lots of new wood. Big and structured with firm, yet ripe tannins that still need some time to soften." (02/2013) Wine Enthusiast: "A tough proposition at this young stage, but one which will definitely mature well, if slowly. There's power from tannins and fruit, both promising aging. Dark and dense, this hints at the juicy black fruits to come. (RV)" (05/2013)

2015 Barde-Haut, St-Émilion
Top Pick!
96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "An awesome Saint Emilion, the 2015 Château Barde-Haut showed even better on this occasion than on release. A huge nose of sweet crème de cassis, jammy blackberries, violets, leather, and dried herbs gives way to a full-bodied wine that has a great mid-palate, ripe, silky tannins, not a hard edge to be found, and a great, great finish." (03/2020) 95 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, wet earth and black tea. Full-bodied, dense and layered with medium, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and...

Thank the emerging region of Cotes de Castillon for this spectacular deal in red Bordeaux. This cuvée shares many qualities of top-flight Saint-Émilion, with a great sweetness of fruit along with vanilla and spicy notes from new oak. Everyone who loves wine knows it's hard to find a steal in Bordeaux these days, but this wine offers a lot of wine for the money.

95 points Decanter: "65% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Great intensity of classic Bordeaux fruit on the nose, cassis, dark cherries and liquorice. The rich round palate is bursting with fresh blackberry and blackcurrant, lovely silky tannins great length all in perfect harmony. *Decanter World Wine Awards Platinum - Best in Show: Best Red Bordeaux Varietals under £15* " (06/2016) K&L Notes: This property is located at the southern end of the Graves region, very close to Barsac and Sauternes. It is one of the oldest in Bordeaux, dating from the fourte...

92 points James Suckling: "The quality of the fruit and tannins are very pretty here. It’s full-bodied, with round velvety texture and a delicious finish. Very impressive." (07/2014) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm tannins, but also ripe, sweet fruits, with a fine balance. While the wine is on the light, fresh side, it does have a good, final structure. (RV)" (04/2010) K&L Notes: At the very top of the Haut-Médoc, embedded in a sea of gravel just next to the Gironde River north of St-Estèphe, sits the anomaly of the Left Bank: Château Coufran, th...

2015 La Fleur de Boüard, Lalande-de-Pomerol
Top Pick!
93 points Decanter: "This is excellent quality and among the best of the line-up. There is an impressive balance of flavours combining brambly fruits with gentle smoked almonds and charred cedar black spice, and the alcohol is generous but not intrusive. Always a leading name in Lalande-de-Pomerol, doing an excellent job in 2015. (JA)" (08/2019) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 La Fleur De Bouard is an awesome wine to seek out. Mostly Merlot, it offers a terrific bouquet of cassis and black cherries intermixed with lots of tobacco leaf and lead pencil ...

2016 Vieux Château Palon, Montagne-St-Emilion
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "Plenty of charred oak, but this muscular Montagne-St.-Emilion also has a ton of crushed berries that provide succulent balance. The long finish is harmonious enough to drink well already. 75 per cent merlot and 25 per cent cabernet franc." (01/2019) 91 points Vinous: "The 2016 Vieux Château Palon is a gorgeous wine that overachieves its humble appellation. Rich, creamy and super-expressive, the 2016 has so much to offer. Chocolate, leather, spice, menthol, French oak and licorice add nuance to a core of super ripe fruit. Palo...

92 points James Suckling: "Very opulent and rich with loads of fruit and spice. Walnut and chocolate. Full and chewy. Exciting. " (03/2016) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A major sleeper of the vintage, this over-achieving St.-Emilion seems to come up big in many of the top vintages and needs more recognition from consumers. Loads of black currants, toasty oak and forest floor notes comprise this large-scaled, substantial wine. With its intense fruit, copius glycerin, and long, complete finish, this wine is successful now but should be bette...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "A warm wine rich in tannins and with succulent berry fruits, this is both powerful and elegant. Its density doesn’t detract from the fruitiness that shines out of the wine and balances with the structured aging potential. *Editors’ Choice* (RV)" (05/2019) 96 points Decanter: "This was delicious En Primeur and is even better now with three years under its belt. It's had time to bed down and is fully set for the long term. Wonderfully rich, intense dark fruits are joined by grip and supple tannins through the palate. It has hi...

90 points James Suckling: "Grilled-plum, black-olive, dark-chocolate and dried-oyster aromas here. Some mushroom, too. It’s medium-bodied and juicy. Turns a little lean, but still outstanding. " (01/2021) 88-90 points Vinous: "The 2018 Merlot from Hubert de Boüard is plump, juicy and full of near to medium-term appeal. Succulent red cherry, sweet spice and new leather are front and center. Drink it over the next few years. (AG)" (04/2019) Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Merlot offers plenty of true Merlot limestone character with its red and black fruits, spi...

Here is a fine find from the Right Bank. Founded in 1704, this 14-hectare estate run by the Bardet family is located on gravelly/clay soils that impart depth and complexity to the wine. 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. We just discovered this property in 2019, and we have already sold quite a bit of their 1995 and 1996. Super old-school label for an “old school” property. This wine has lots of red berry aromas and flavors. It really opens up with some decanting.

2018 Darius, St-Émilion
Top Pick!
The Château Darius St-Emilion is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. The wine is made in a modern fashion with beautifully pure fruit and structure that makes it openly accessible and enjoyable immediately. It's no wonder this is a favorite of restaurant sommeliers in France. What better addition to a wine list than a Bordeaux from a stunning vintage that's ready to go right now?

92 points James Suckling: "Interesting aromas of spearmint and cedar to the dark-berry character, following through to a medium body, with polished and tight, velvety tannins and a lightly bitter finish. Should soften with age. " (04/2019) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Gros Caillou is a blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from vines located on a particular plot of more gravelly soils in Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens. I actually mentioned this on social media when I tasted it and, apparently within an hour...

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A supple, lighter style of wine in 2010, the 2010 L'Arrosée is stylish and medium to full-bodied, with seductive notes of black cherries, cranberries and mulberries. Some oak is present, but this is a mid-weight, savory, broad and disarming wine to drink over the next 10-15 years. (RP)" (02/2013) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A very toasty but integrated style, with warm espresso and mocha leading the way for a really supple palate of black currant, plum sauce and cassis flavors. The toast holds a slight lead on t...

94 points James Suckling: "This Petrus is solid for the vintage with bright and pretty fruit. It’s full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a berry, Indian spice, and cinnamon character. Long and intense. Better than most may believe. Still needs some time but who can wait?" (10/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Petrus has a sumptuous bouquet with ample mulberry, truffle and pain d'epices aromas that are beautifully defined. It just seems to gain more and more volume in the glass. The ...

Medium body with a lovely core of ripe fruit, yet it remains vivid and bright. " (01/2019) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "From one of several properties owned by the Chanfreau family in Listrac, this wine is firm, structured and has a core of dry, dark tannins. Its black fruits are also right there, waiting to burst through as the tannins soften. It will be a rich, perfumed wine with a good future. (RV)" (04/2019) K&L Notes: Châtea...

2018 Busquet, Lussac-Saint-Émilion
Top Pick!
Another of the fine wines of Dominique Robin. Grapes are harvested at full maturity and aged in casks to round out the wine’s generous profile, while it retains a mineral-driven finish. Superb buy. Plenty of blackberries on the palate. (Clyde Beffa Jr., K&L)

98 points James Suckling: "This is a very linear red and layered at the same time, showing blackberry, blueberry, black-truffle, bark and stone character. Chalk and minerality, too. It’s full-bodied and well framed with gorgeous intensity and freshness. Muscular with wonderful structure and brightness. Salty and savory notes on the finish." (03/2021) 97 points Decanter: "One of the stories of the 2018 vintage in Bordeaux was Troplong Mondot bringing in its first grapes on 7 September. Proof, many suggested, of director Aymeric de Gironde going too far ...

2016 Barde-Haut, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
96 points Vinous: "Readers will find a rich, flamboyant wine in the 2016 Barde-Haut. There is not a ton of subtlety here, but I am not sure that matters all that much given how immensely pleasing the 2016 is. Crushed rocks, graphite, lavender, blackberry, plum, and violet infuse a Saint-Émilion that offers tremendous textural richness as well as vibrancy. Most importantly of all, the 2016 is flat-out delicious. This is a decidedly opulent, dark Saint-Émilion with all of the elements impeccably balanced. I loved it. (AG)" (01/2019) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck...

2018 Tour du Moulin, Fronsac
Top Pick!
90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Located in Fronsac, the soil here is mainly limestone. The 2018 Tour du Moulin is made of 80% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, with a 3.54 pH and 14.6% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it gives up vibrant notes of wild blueberries, Morello cherries and fresh black raspberries with touches of unsmoked cigars, sautéed herbs and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers bags of bright black and blue fruits with soft, rounded tannins and great freshness, finishing savory. (...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 La Conseillante is composed of 83% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc, with a 3.65 pH and 14% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it needs a lot of swirling and coaxing to lure out the youthfully shy, incredible perfume of black raspberries, boysenberries, ripe plums and cinnamon toast, leading to notions of lilacs, clove oil and forest floor, plus a waft of iron ore. The medium to full-bodied palate is a jaw-dropping exercise in finesse, slowly unfurling in the mouth to reveal layer upon layer of bright, cr...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A real powerhouse of a Pomerol, the 2018 Château Hosanna checks in as a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, all from a tiny, 11-acre parcel of blue clay and more red, gravelly soils in the heart of the appellation. This site has good neighbors, with Vieux Château Certan (and Certan de May) to the south, Lafleur just to the north, Petrus to the east, and La Fleur-Petrus to the west. Gorgeous blackcurrants, plum, chocolate, scorched earth, tobacco leaf, and graphite are just some of the nuances here, and this beauty is full-...

2016 Dauphin de Grand Pontet, St-Émilion
Top Pick!
The second wine of the great estate Grand Pontet, it is sourced from the youngest vines on clay-limestone soils and is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.
Price: $27.99

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Owned by a family long associated with Fronsac and Saint-Émilion, this wine is ripe, sumptuously textured while still developing. Generous, bold tannins match well with the black fruits. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (12/2019) 91 points James Suckling: "The plum and hazelnut aromas are very pretty with hints of dried flowers. Medium-bodied, tight and focused with firm and chewy tannins that show intensity and muscle." (01/2019)
Price: $17.99

Price: $79.95

93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Merlot is another very pretty wine in this part of the Pride range. Plump and juicy, with mid-weight structure, the 2018 is gorgeous right out of the gate. Succulent black cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and spice all flesh out effortlessly, with bright acids that keep the flavors lively. The restrained style is so appealing. (AG)" (02/2021) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Merlot excelled in 2018, and Pride's 2018 Merlot offers a beautiful, medium to full-bodied, plump, rounded style that's a joy to drink. 2015 Clinet, Pomerol (1.5L)
Back In Stock!
99 points James Suckling: "An immaculate wine with pristine blackberries and dark plums as well as fresh, earthy nuances and dark crushed violets. An upright palate with lightly peppery dark berries and plums. The inflection of cabernet here makes for an impressively powerful wine that still exudes Pomerol's suave, seductive charm. Chalky, seamless tannins. Super fresh. " (12/2018) 98 points Decanter: "An elegant, powerful and accomplished wine in 2015, with finely-knitted tannins and dark fruit which is pushed imperceptibly upwards from start to finis...

91 points John Gilman: "The 1986 vintage was right in the midst of the golden run that Château l’Arrosée experienced in the decade of the 1980s, and at age thirty, this wine is still a few years away from primetime drinking, but it is showing fine promise. The bouquet is deep, complex and still quite vibrant in its refined mix of black cherries, cigar ash, dark soil tones, a lovely topnote of spices, a nice dollop of autumnal forest floor and a gentle framing of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, long and complex, with a fine core, very ...

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Deeply colored, the 2017 Chateau Puygueraud checks in as a blend of 63% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Malbec that spent 12-16 months in barrel. It's a winner, with lots of fruit and richness as well as classic notes of dark fruits, leafy herbs, damp earth, and spring flowers. I'd be happy to drink this rounded, textured, medium-bodied effort any time over the coming 7-8 years. You'd be forgiven for claiming Pomerol in a blind tasting." (02/2020) 89-90 points James Suckling: "A fresh and fruity red with dark berries and hint...
Price: $19.99

93-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Modern in style, with its new wood flavors dominant, this is a tight wine at this stage, packed with tannins, the fruit a ripe promise for the future. Big and dark, juicy flavors show through finally." (06/2011) 93 points Vinous: "The 2010 Grand Mayne has a chiseled bouquet with pure blackberry and raspberry fruit that immediately seduce. The palate is medium-bodied with bold tannins, perhaps just starting to becoming a little more pliant. It is certainly very dense with ample blackberry and boysenberry fruit mixed with b...

This is the second wine from Château d'Aiguilhe, in the far east of Bordeaux. Proprietor and winemaker Stephan von Neipperg is also responsible for the greatness that lies in each bottle of Château Canon-La-Gaffelière, Clos l'Oratoire, Château Peyreau and La Mondotte. The cepage is overwhelmingly Merlot, with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. The property dates back to the 12th century and is linked to the Knights Templar. The current château, a "fortified farmhouse," was built in the 13th century. The Right Bank terroir, with its clay-limestone soil...

While many of California's young wineries, especially those in the Napa Valley, chose to focus their energy on Cabernet Sauvignon, Dan and Margaret Duckhorn bucked the trend, devoting a lot of energy to Merlot as a stand-alone wine, not just as a blending grape.
Price: $44.95

95 points James Suckling: "Extremely aromatic and lifted on the nose with wild fruit and flowers, as well as chalk and mushroom undertones. Full body and ultra-fine tannins with beautiful grace and balance. Shows structure yet refinement at the same time. Needs four to five years to come completely together, but already so beautiful." (02/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Beau-Sejour Becot (80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) is just a little closed to begin, opening out...

2017 Tour St-Christophe, St-Emilion (1.5L)
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "This estate made a stunning 2017, and I continue to love this wine. A typical blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe has remarkable purity in its black raspberry and blueberry fruits as well as complex spice, candied violet, spring flower, and cedary herb aromas and flavors. Possessing medium to full-bodied richness, incredible tannins, and flawless balance, it’s already accessible, as are most 2017s, yet is going to shine for 20 years or more." While many of California's young wineries, especially those in the Napa Valley, chose to focus their energy on Cabernet Sauvignon, Dan and Margaret Duckhorn bucked the trend, devoting a lot of energy to Merlot as a stand-alone wine, not just as a blending grape. Three Palms was Duckhorn's first vineyard-designated Merlot back in 1978, and it has remained an age-worthy classic in their portfolio vintage after vintage.

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I loved the 2018 Château Angélus from barrel last year and it blew me away from bottle, epitomizing the new, fresher, more elegant style of the estate while still bringing classic Angélus richness and power. The 2018 is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc that was brought up in new oak, with a portion of the Cabernet Franc in foudre. A vivid purple color is followed by a vibrant bouquet of blackberries, crème de cassis, crushed violets, spring flowers, and cedar pencil. Beautifully concentrated, full-bodied, and flawless...

95 points Wine Spectator: "Refined, rich and powerfully structured flavors of cherry, currant and dried raspberry are tensile, supported by firm acidity and tannins. Ends with a minerally flourish on the firm finish, with notes of savory herbs. Best from 2022 through 2027. (KM)" (09/2021)
Price: $84.95

98 points James Suckling: "Stunning nose with wild strawberries, vanilla and raspberries. Opens up with a little time in the glass to sweet licorice, blueberries and some graphite. Round and full on the palate with an amazing fruit and refined tannins. Truly superb. Hard not to drink now." (02/2013) 98 points Wine Spectator: "Dense and slightly chewy, this features girders of charcoal-coated grip running from start to finish, along with bay leaf, smoldering tobacco and warm tar. But don’t be fooled-there's also loads of fruit, offering dark plum, black...

2016 Figeac, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
97-99 points Wine Enthusiast: "This aromatic wine is magnificent in its balance and richness. With its high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (38%), it is so typical of this estate. The tannins are velvety while packing a firm punch. Dark and concentrated, it is a great wine for long-term aging. (RV)" (04/2017) 98 points Vinous: "The 2016 Figeac has a nose of real pedigree, featuring very well-defined, ferrous black fruit with hints of truffle and tobacco and conveying exceptional mineralité and tension. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tan...

93 points James Suckling: "A dense, structured red with plums and currants and hints of cedar and chocolate powder. Medium to full body. Juicy fruit. Flavorful finish." (12/2019) 93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Lafleur-Gazin is plump, juicy and wonderfully inviting in 2017. Cedar, pipe tobacco, cinnamon and dried flowers add lovely top notes to the bright, red-toned fruit in this mid-weight, gracious Pomerol. Best of all, the 2017 can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. This is a very pretty, gracious wine. (AG)" (03/2020) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe ...
