93 points Decanter: "Another crowd-pleasing wine from Weston Eidson, who cut his teeth working alongside Napa's Jason Moore and Russell Bevan. This blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec is sourced from Oakville and Yountville AVAs and was aged in 50% new French oak barrels. Medium to deep ruby-purple colour in the glass. It showcases the warmth and generosity of Napa's 2022 vintage in an incredibly satisfying package, leading with enticing aromas of vanilla-laced boysenberry fruit scented with lilac floral and sweet baking spice...

96 points Decanter: "Pommard, Wadenswil (50%) and a bit of Dijon, the youngest vines on the Maresh estate, are from 1997, as well as plantings from 1991, 83, and 70, all of it own-rooted. Earth and rose petals announce gorgeous aromatics. Winemaker Jim Maresh destems 100%. It sees 18-24 months in barrel. At $33.50, this may be the best deal in American wine. Earthen aromatics, pine bough, and blood orange spritz. The palate is fresh with blue and red bramble fruits, spicy clove and savoury herbaceousness. For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. Naturally, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity. This is a superb Cabernet-very elegant and user friendly already. Lots of sweet cassis and red fruit aromas that follow to the palate. No hard edges here-drink it young with a prime rib or steak dinner. Will cellar well for five plus years. clyde

90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark in color, with lots of blackberry, mineral, licorice and a hint of toasty oak. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. Balanced and generous, with lots of fruit underneath. (JS)" (03/2008) Decanter: "Lifted cassis and hedgerow fruits. Harmonious balance between ripe, dark fruit, integrated oak, and chewy tannins. Attractive. " (06/2008) Wine Advocate: "A consistently well-made cru bourgeois, this wine exhibits a deep ruby color and a nice, earthy nose with hints of burning embers intermixed with...

96 points Sam Kim: "This is seductively complex and enticing on the nose, showing dark berry, bouquet garni, roasted nut and dried mushroom aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that's both refined and robust. It's expansive and finely textured with beautifully pitched tannins, making it splendidly structured and lingering. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2035." (11/2023) 94 points James Suckling: " Very clear and precise on the nose with strawberries, iodine, graphite and some stony undertones. Medium-bodied with creamy tannins, juicy fruit ...

Château de Sarenceau is a family property and the 4th generation runs it today. This small estate of only 9 hectares allows a precise and careful work of the vines. This is the first time we have carried this property and it was our biggest buy on April 2022 trip. Rare enough to be underlined, this Saint-Emilion is a 100% Merlot! It offers an evolved nose, with notes of truffle, plum and licorice. The mouth opens with a lot of fruit and freshness, and it finishes with ripe black fruit flavors. A great wine from a great vintage. Will cellar well 10 mor...

94 points Decanter: "The palate has massive intensity of fruit flavour – watermelon, wild strawberry tip, a bit of dried thyme, salty toasted sourdough, macerated just-ripe strawberries, cranberries, wild oats and Moroccan spice box, with lacy acidity pulling through the fruit intensity. Savoury characters and fruit notes walk the line well. Finely layered texture, plenty of fruit phenolics, and some grippier and slightly grainier oak tannins. The oak offers a little toastiness and slight vanilla fringing. An equilibrium of fruit, acid, structure and wei...

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lots of chocolate, mocha, darker fruits, and dried herb-like notes emerge from the 2012 Château Barde-Haut, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated 2012. It's showing a touch of maturity yet still has plenty of tannins and structure, good mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. I continue to think 2012 was a great vintage for the Right Bank, and this certainly doesn't change my mind." (03/2020) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Offers lovely purity and mouthfeel, with notes of velvety plum, boysenberry and cherry preserves gliding easi...
95 points Vinous: "The 2021 Hair of the Bear is an unusual blend of 75% Petite Syrah and 25% Roussanne. It’s a combination that works so well. Inky dark fruit, licorice, cloves, chocolate and sweet spice all meld together effortlessly, while perfumed floral notes lift the finish. (AG)" (07/2023) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2021 Hair of the Bear is based largely on Petite Sirah but includes a whopping 25% Roussanne, all from the estate Stolpman Vineyard on Ballard Canyon. (04/2011) 93 points Wine Advocate: "The Haut-Bergey 2010 has a very concentrated bouquet with dense blackberry, briary, crushed stone and tobacco on the nose that unfolds in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry. There is a lot of extraction here, but it is in tune with the acidity and the structured finish has plenty of vibrant red fruit and energy to see it thr...

(04/2019) 95 points Wine Advocate: "The Mazzei family was one of the first and most enthusiastic advocates of the Gran Selezione movement. (08/2022) 94 points Wine Advocate: "Following a challenging harvest for Sangiovese, the Fattoria le Pupille 2020 Poggio Valente generates aromas of wild cherry, pressed violet, balsam herb and grilled rosemary. After working as the vineyard manager for Newton Vineyards for over 30 years, Lupe Maldonado bought a 10-acre piece of land in the cool southern tip of Napa (in Jamieson Canyon), and planted vineyards in the dark, gravelly clay soil. He brought in Jean Hoefliger from Newton as his consulting winemaker.
93 points John Gilman: "The 2022 Evangelho Vineyard bottling from Cody and Emily Rasmussen is composed from a blend of ninety percent, very old vine Carignan and ten percent Mourvèdre. The Carignan vines are ungrafted and were planted in the 1890s! The wine was fermented with thirty percent whole clusters and raised all in foudres and the 2022 comes in at an even fourteen percent octane. It delivers a deep and complex aromatic constellation of cassis, sweet dark berries, chocolate, smoked meats, a lovely base of soil, a lovely array of spice tones and ju...
96 points Vinous: "The 2019 Gloria has a compelling nose: black fruit, crushed rocks, tobacco and very subtle marine scents that are all beautifully combined. Perhaps the most precise and delineated nose among an impressive array of Saint-Julien's this year. The palate is medium-bodied with a lively opening. A touch of soy infuses the black fruit; fine-boned with wonderful sapidity on the finish. Extraordinary length. Serious. 92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2022 Pinot Noir Seafarer showed beautifully, with a darker strawberry, plum, and mulberry-driven profile offering lots of cooler peppery herb, violet, and underbrush-like nuances. It's medium-bodied, silky, and elegant on the palate." (08/2023)
A remarkable expression of Nebbiolo from one of the most respected producers in the Barolo region, Massolino delivers a Langhe Nebbiolo that captures the essence of the grape in a more approachable style. Sourced from younger vines and vineyard sites outside of the Barolo DOCG, this Nebbiolo showcases the craftsmanship and tradition that the Massolino family has been dedicated to since 1896. Massolino’s Langhe Nebbiolo is an excellent entry point into the world of Piedmont’s noble grape, offering a level of complexity, freshness, and vibrancy that’s char...
93 points The Wine Independent: "The NV Cabernet Sauvignon Quixotic is a blend of 79% 2019 vintage from Hunnicutt and 21% 2020 vintage from a vineyard in St Helena. Deep garnet-purple in color, it rolls out of the glass with notes of warm cassis, Morello cherries, and plum preserves, plus hints of unsmoked cigars, spice cake, and dried roses with a waft of mossy tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and juicy, with bags of fragrant fruit and a lively finish. (LPB)" (04/2023)
Just when you think you've tasted every type of booze known to man, you discover that there are more regionally specific spirits being distilled in places you've never considered. Take Bolivia, where they make a pisco-like spirit called Singani, distilled from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown high in the Andes mountains. Muscat is an aromatic varietal, known for its fruity and floral character, and the Singani spirit takes on many of the perfumes found in the expressive grape. The result is a clean and vibrant brandy that drinks like something in betwee...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "An estate-grown wine given 30% whole-cluster fermentation, this is a fleshy and lively red wine, broad in appeal and funky earthiness. Forest, black tea and spicy white pepper dominate a lighthearted palate of silky texture and elegance. (VB)" (11/2021) 91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Pinot Noir West Pole is outstanding as well as a notable value. Giving up lots of brambly herbs and stemmy nuances paired with a core of sweet raspberry and cherry fruits, it’s medium-bodied and has a rounded, elegant texture along with plenty...
Boutique winery Vinoce continues to impress. Little surprise when you consider their wines are made by much-heralded winemaker Keith Emerson of Vineyard 29! Emerson crafts some of the most highly sought-after cult Cabs in the valley from St. Helena fruit at Vineyard 29, including wines rated at 100-points by Robert Parker himself. Considering that pedigree, Vinoce's St. Helena Cab is very well priced at the regular $60 SRP, but at our Insider's Advantage price of over 50% off, it's just plain ridiculous.

This espadin (A. Angustifolia) mezcal is the perfect pick for anyone starting to explore the world of quality mezcal or as a relatively inexpensive option for mezcal-based cocktails. It's very approachable and laden with sweet agave fruit. The smoke component is decidedly there, but not very intense, as one would expect with a well-made mezcal. A rich texture makes this a delightful sipper or stout component in a mezcal variant of the Last Word. Gold medal winner in Tequila Aficionado's 2021 Brands of Promise.

95 points The Wine Independent: "The 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande is medium to deep garnet in color. Intense notes of Morello cherries, creme de cassis, and plum preserves spill from the glass, plus touches of mint tea, iron ore, and dried roses. The medium-bodied palate is taut with muscular black fruits and fantastic tension, framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing long and fragrant. Simply beautiful! Burghound: "An ultra-fresh and nicely ripe nose freely offers up its pretty aromas of mostly red pinot fruit and soft earth scents. The racy, delicious and attractively textured middleweight flavors conclude in a dusty and lightly austere finale. While this could be approached young, 2 to 5 years of keeping should round off the finish and develop more depth." (01/2024) Jasper Morris: "Plots on the sand for the most part. A bright purple. Lean, austere, fresh. Red berries with even a chocolate note behind. Drier finish but enough fruit. Ready to bottle....

It has muscle in all the right places (primarily the finish, where it accelerates away) and restraint in all others. The tannins that shape the fruit in the mouth are whisper fine and curl and curve their way across the tongue. This is a beautiful wine with grace and poise." Quite vertical and structured with lots of tannins that give a comfortably grippy closure to the long, tight finish. A serious, outstanding Rosso di Montalcino. 95 points Vinous: "The 2021 Lytton Springs is fabulous. Bright and vibrant to its core, the 2021 impresses with its poise. Readers will find a Lytton Springs that is very much in reserve, as opposed to the rest of the 2021s in this report, all of which are more approachable. Salivating acids and veins of tannin lend shape and persistence, but the 2021 needs time. Red cherry fruit, blood orange, rose petal and sage are some of the notes that linger on the close. (11/2023) 97 points Raymond Chan: "Bright, ruby-red with good transparency, slightly lighter on the rim. One of K&L's very finest buys from France, this is a reserve cuvée, made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit and minerality, and bright citrus notes. The wines of this family domaine have been a staple here at K&L since the 1994 vintage when Franck and Betty Millet drove a long way (to Beaune!) on Easter Sunday to meet Clyde and crew to present the wines. We love these wines for their fresh...

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Reminding me of a great Crozes-Hermitage, the 2019 Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard has terrific red and black berry fruits, bacon fat, peppery herbs, and hints of game in a medium-bodied, layered, balanced style that's already a joy to drink. It will keep nicely through 2029 with no issues, and I suspect even longer. This is 100% Syrah that spent two years in one-third new French oak." (08/2023)
The Verdicchio di Matelica region is renowned for producing some of the most complex and age-worthy Verdicchios in Italy, and Casa Lucciola’s Riserva is a stellar example of the quality this area can achieve. The 2020 vintage was marked by a near-perfect growing season, resulting in a wine with incredible freshness, depth, and balance.
On the nose, this Verdicchio Riserva bursts with aromas of citrus blossom, green apple, and white peach, layered with notes of almond, wild herbs, and a touch of wet stone minerality. The palate is structured yet lively, ...

(04/2017) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Situated in one of the northern sectors of Margaux, this estate was created in the 13th century. This sumptuous wine has enormous power that is mitigated by the taut, mineral texture and black-currant flavors.
