The producer notes, "This wine is a blend of selected single vineyard Chardonnay estate grapes, with a large portion coming from our Dijon clones 76 and 17. The Chardonnay grapes are picked between 24 and 26 degrees brix to ensure mature ripe fruit flavors. The wine is 100% barrel fermented with wild yeast, resting in 50% new French oak for 10 months before bottling. The wine is neither heat nor cold stabilized, and is un-fined and un-filtered, clarified only by racking before bottling."

Chev was founded by Michael Browne who is one of the co-founders of Kosta Browne, which was sold to Duckhorn Wine Company in 2018. While Kosta Browne found most of its success through vineyard designates, the focus on Chev is to produce one wine from a variety of sources to showcase the very best of a vintage. Winery tasting notes: "Fresh papaya, spiced apricot, and light crème caramel accented with freshly grated nutmeg. 94 points Vinous: "The 2019 Chardonnay The North Slope Vineyard is one of the most overtly, powerful wines in this range. A wine of real phenolic intensity, the North Slope is a structured, savory Chardonnay that is going to need a few years to come around. It is incredibly distinctive. Crushed rocks, tangy herbs and lemon confit all grace a Chardonnay that balances power with transparency. (AG)" (01/2021)
