91 points Wine Enthusiast: " From 31-year-old vines, this bubbly is all kinds of wild, starting with a very cloudy appearance then leading into aromas of grapefruit soda, apple sauce and banana. That unique combination shows strongly on the palate as well, where tropical hints of mango and makrut lime add to the attention-grabbing format. (MK)" (03/2021)

Carboniste sparkling wines are a fresh take on the category, as San Francisco Chronicle wine reporter Esther Mobley described in a December, 2019 feature: "They taste youthful and primary. Extended tirage — who needs it? The wines are also notable for their soft textures. Whereas a typical bottle of Champagne might have 6 bars of pressure — a measurement of the force of the bubbles — the Carboniste wines clock in around 4, which puts them closer to the pressure of Prosecco."

Here's a sparkling wine brand with a theme we can all get behind for the New Year: Onward! Faith Armstrong Foster is the winemaker behind the wines of Onward. This rare sparkling Malvasia Bianca was handled gently, and transferred from tank to bottle by gravity. Indeed, the gentle process is a must for "Pét-Nat," as the wine is still fermenting. Thus, the wine makes its own natural bubbles, without additional dosage. Handle with care, too, after opening, as the bottles contain a slight amount of lees sediment, to complete fermentation and add complexity...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The current release of the NV Estate Brut is made up mainly of fruit from the 2015 vintage. It is a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir and was made with about ten grams per liter dosage. Disgorged in October of 2018, it has a fresh, open nose with pure fruit expression: crushed apples, pears and lemon peel mingle with touches of stone, flowers and toast. The medium-bodied palate offers a lovely dichotomy of toasty fruits with uplifted citrusy, minerally accents with a finely beaded mousse, and it finishes...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: " Blending 53% Pinot Noir, 44% Chardonnay and 3% Pinot Gris into a cohesive whole, this sparkler is aged nearly four years. Effusively fruity and balanced in acidity, it offers rich, rounded notes of pear, green apple and melon that contrast against a bite of cookie. (VB)" (07/2021) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Sleek and steely, with precise lemon, fresh ginger, blanched almond and strawberry flavors that build richness on a long finish. (TF)" (07/2021)

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "A panoply of subtle aromas and delicate flavors wrapped in a silky, slightly crisp texture give this medium-bodied wine a great sense of elegance. Fresh ginger, biscuits, toasted almonds and mild cherry nuances fill the palate. *Editors' Choice* (JG)" (10/2020) 93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Elements of toast and lemons and a faintly floral note merge nicely in the nose of this firmly constructed, complex and yet very lively wine, and its fine veneer of autolyzed yeast carries well into its explicitly autolyzed flavors. It ...

90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Just as it did in last year’s survey of sparkling wines, Scharffenberger’s Brut Rosé once again impresses with its fine combination of deep, slightly juicy, very well-stated fruit and integral autolysis. It is a deftly balanced wine with a steady, very long-lasting stream of tiny bubbles, and, although we continue to be happily surprised at the number of affordable sparklers that merit 'Good Value' recommendation, this wine’s buoyancy, intricate layering and careful crafting earns it an especially enthusiastic nod as nothin...

92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Finding a place at the lighter end of the Rosé spectrum and, in fact, a wine that could easily pass for a Blanc de Noirs, this lightly yeasty version fixes on energetic, slightly juicy, young fruit as its main motif. It is briskly balanced, but its ample acidity enlivens without ever once seeming sharp, and it is wholly free of the astringency that marks its more vinous mates. *Two Stars*" (11/2015) 92 points James Suckling: "A lovely, flavorful rosé with sliced peaches and strawberries. Medium to full body. Very bright a...
