Since 2012 Natalie and Vinnie have been eyeing experimental hop HBC-692 at the experimental hopyard at Select Botanical’s in Yakima, WA. It particularly struck a chord with them because of its distinctive pink grapefruit aroma. One of the highlights of the their annual trip to Yakima for hop selection is “rubbing” or smelling this hop. We chose to brew an India Pale Lager to really showcase the hop character. Apical Dominance has a beautiful grapefruit and melon aroma, with mild bitterness, and a lingering finish.

According to napawineproject.com "This wine was a Tawny Port styled wine that had been aging in the dark recesses of this particular cave for more than two decades. Robert brought a sample to Prager Portworks (the noted Napa Valley “Port House” in St. Helena) and upon tasting it they quickly said “bottle it now”! Robert did just that – merely 90 cases of 500ml bottles." Also, "This wine is amber color in the glass and initially shows wonderful aromas of hazelnut oil, walnut, orange peel and mocha. This is a wine that aromatically is complex and multi lay...

Mas Karolina is the project of Caroline Bonville, cousin of Olivier Bonville proprietor of one of our favorite Champagne houses Franck Bonville. Caroline originally hails from Bordeaux where much of her family still resides. Looking for her own property, she settled in the village of Maury located in the Roussillon. There, her restrained sensibilities are making some of the most pristine, clean and balanced wines in the region. As a first, we recently brought in a little bit of Caroline’s traditional Roussillon wines. Her Muscat de Rivesaltes is a gorgeo...

Slightly sweet, slightly sparkling and some skin contact with the grapes makes for one of the most incredibly unique wines from Greece we have ever tasted. This sits on the verge of natural wine meets sparkling cider meets sour beers. There's really no way to put into words how fun this is. You kind of have to try it and see. From the brewery: "In the middle of the old part of Bamberg, directly beneath the mighty cathedral, one can find the historic smoked beer brewery Schlenkerla. First mentioned in 1405 and now run by the Trum family in the 6th generation, it is the fountain of Original Schlenkerla Smokebeer (in German language it's called "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier"). The smoked beer is here at the brewery tavern still being tapped directly from the wooden barrel according to old tradition. Our dark, bottom fermented speciality, brewed with Original Schlenkerla Smokemalt...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The medium amber, nutty Napoleon Amontillado is a dry style sherry, also a fine aperitif. " (02/2007) Wine & Spirits: "Subtle in its salinity while generous in its nutty flavors, this approachable Amontillado ends on light caramel flavors. For an aperitif with aged goat cheese." (06/2011) K&L Notes: What a terrific Amontillado! Gently toasted nut and candied citrus aromas lead to a subtle, elegant, nutty palate. While the salty, flor qualities are not cranking on all cylinders here, there is an elegance, sof...

There’s brisk, tart peach flavor along with more mature tones of pale berries and woodsy mushrooms. Hints of tobacco smoke add to the wine’s elegance." Produced from two butts of a solera at Bodega del Drago, located just a mile from the beach in El Puerto de Santa María, this crisp Fino is detailed and focused, a truly great aperitif or accompaniment to a plethora of different foods. Fortunately for all of us fans of "en rama," or minimally filtered and minimally processed Sherries, Lustau bottles three excellent examples from their extensive holdings. These bottlings present a real opportunity to enjoy a young Fino or Manzanilla in a state that most faithfully approximates a barrel-drawn solera sample...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Now available in widget cans, Left Hand’s Nitro Milk Stout, America’s top-selling craft nitro stout, is not one to be overlooked. It pours with a beautiful presentation—and should be poured hard—as upward waves of foam cascade to the top of a dark black glass. The pillowy head releases initial notes of rich malt, roasted nuts, mocha and cocoa powder. The plush, smooth, mouthfilling palate offers more of the same, with lingering notes of vanilla ice cream topped with roasted cocoa nibs, toasted walnuts and espresso powder. It’s...

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Juan García Jarana, the motorcycle magnate of Jerez, sells a portion of his soleras to Lustau for this delicate Oloroso. It starts with notes of candied almonds, coconut palm syrup and caramel. The hint of salinity lends complexity and freshness, without diminishing that delicate, pleasing sweetness." (06/2009) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Just add this oloroso to the growing list of excellent Sherries from Lustau. This one is tellingly nutty on the nose, thus the hazelnut and walnut flavors are expected as they become part of...

Here is a crisp, bright, virtually unfiltered Manzanilla, the lighest on its feet of Lustau's newly released "3 en Rama" series of Sherries. Fortunately for all of us fans of "en rama," or miinimally filtered and minimally processed Sherries, Lustau bottles three excellent examples from their extensive holdings. These bottlings present a real opportunity to enjoy a young Fino or Manzanilla in a state that most faithfully approximates a barrel drawn solera sample (which, of course, is Sherry at its most romantic and its most delicious!) A staple fruit for the Belgian inspired is the cherry. Bold flavor, intense color, and amazing aromas make this fruit one of the best choices for beer makers. ‘Kriek’ starts out as a blend of one year old lambic-inspired barrels, combined with a mix of frozen tart cherries at a rate around 2 lbs per gallon. After two months of secondary fermentation and maturation the beer is sent to bottles and kegs for conditioning. The beer has brilliant jammy notes reminiscent of cherry pie, slightly sweet while finishing crisp and dry. That classic Blendery funk and...

Deschutes Brewery "Twilight Ale" American Pale Ale, Oregon (12oz)
Back In Stock!
A quick pour provided a rocky inch thick cream colored head that slowly receded into a coating film on top of a orange hued gold. The glass is studded with bubbles from the carbonation which is perfect for what I was looking for as I opened this beer, something cool, fizzy and refreshing. Aromatically this is mildly hop driven with light notes of cut grass, sweet pea and lemon curd. The flavors here are nice, but far from extreme or overpowering, perfect for a 6 pack on a warm summer day which it is while I'm reviewing this. I like the mild grapefruit t...

From the producer: "We are calling it "We Blue It" but we think you'll love it. In this we use some of our mellow slightly malolactic field-run cider base and introduce it to a large-ish heap of blueberries and just a touch of amarillo hops. The result is this semi-dry, fruity, herbal and VERY purple beverage that blurs the line even further around what cider is and isn't."

From a solera begun in 1991, this spectacular Sanluqueño Amontillado contains wine of an average age of 15-20 years old. Blended in, there is a tiny amount of very old wine discovered in the bodega shortly after its purchase. It had been sealed in plaster, as the former owner was apparently determined to keep this pre-phylloxera wine, unblended, all to himself! Aromatics reveal salty flor, followed by toffee. The wine is racy on the palate, until it turns rich and succulent, with buttered and roasted pecan and almond flavors. This is really quite good. (...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Amontillado Gran Barquero is an impressive 25-30 years old. It wears a dark amber robe and a subtle, elegant and focused nose. The palate shows a medium-bodied wine of a velvety texture, fine acidity and clean, focused flavors, It represents superb value for the quality it delivers. 90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Opening nosing pass shows deft touches of caramel, honey and molasses. Palate entry is dry to off-dry and mildly honeyed; the midpalate is stately, medium-bodied and tastes of tar, tobacco, old oak and molasses. Aftertaste is long, bittersweet, brandy-like and tastes of dark caramel. *Superb, Highly Recommended*" (06/2006) K&L Notes: El Dorado Rum is made by Demerara Distillers Limited in Guyana, South America, and is perhaps the single greatest rum producer on the planet. Having operated since the 1600s, it supplied the ...
