91 points James Suckling: "Ripe and tangy nose with red cherries and strawberries with a hint of stewed herbs, stones and white pepper. Crunchy and juicy on the palate with firm tannins and a juicy finish. Garnacha. No sulfites added. Drink now." (06/2023) 91 points Wine Advocate: "The perfumed and heady 2020 Los Ángeles was produced with Garnacha from a 50-year-old plot that is worked biodynamically (but nothing is certified). It fermented with 30% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in new and used barrels of different sizes and origins f...

2020 Domaine Benedetti "Larmes Papales" Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Aromas of dark cherries, wild berries, dried thyme, bay leaves and peppercorns. It’s medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Layered, round and juicy with a spicy edge and a vibrant, flavorful finish with excellent length. 100% grenache noir. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." (05/2023) 94 points Wine Advocate: "All Grenache, all matured in demi-muids, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape les Larmes Papales features attractive notions of menthol, crushed stone, pencil shavings and blackberries on the nose. It's full-bodied...

97-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2020 Grenache Distenta II is a blend of mostly 78% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and a tiny splash of Viognier. It's a ripe, sexy, insanely good barrel sample that has remarkable purity, tons of black raspberry and cassis fruits, perfect balance, full-bodied richness, and an already complex bouquet of violets, spice, and flowers. I continue to be blown away by what this estate seems to achieve with Grenache in just about every vintage." (08/2022) 97 points Wine Advocate: "I first tasted the Grenac...

98 points James Suckling: "A beautiful nose with cherries and strawberries, spicy herbs, dried currant leaves and pink peppercorns. Crushed stones and spices, too. Full-bodied, so wide and plush with lovely spiced red fruit that jumps out of the glass. So expressive and vibrant. Salty and minerally at the end, too. A lot going on here. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. " 97 points Int'l Wine Review: "A 100% Grenache from Horsepower, this one coming from the young Fiddleneck Vineyard. Aged in all neutral oak for about 16 months, it’s a mea...

96 points Decanter: "Founded in 1886, Gómez Cruzado sources its wines from about 100 predominantly bush-vine plots across three areas within Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta. Grapes for the Pancrudo 2020 came from 100% old-vine Garnacha planted at 650m on clay-ferrous soils in Badarán, Alto Najerilla. Fermented in stainless steel with malolactic fermentation in new French oak (65%) and concrete egg tanks (35%). Sarah Jane Evans MW: Full of character, with lively redcurrant, blueberry and brambly fruit layered with a rasp of tannin. Well-balanced acidity and ...

96 points Vinous: "Saturated ruby. Assertively perfumed, mineral-tinged red berry, cherry, lavender and incense scents show outstanding clarity and spicy lift. Concentrated yet lively black raspberry, cherry-cola, succulent herb and floral pastille flavors pick up a hint of spicy white pepper on the back half. The floral and red fruit notes shine on the strikingly long finish, featuring polished tannins and reverberating spice and mineral notes. All whole clusters. (JR)" (01/2023) 94 points Decanter: "Considerably more interesting on the nose than many...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Based on 100% Grenache from a handful of great sites in the Central Coast (Slide Hill, Full Draw, Bien Nacido, and Rolph vineyards), the 2020 On the Road spent a whopping 30 months in 70% new French oak. It has gorgeous black cherry, kirsch, melted licorice, and roasted garrigue-like aromatics that carry to a full-bodied, concentrated, yet broad and expansive red with ripe tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish." (08/2023) 92 points Vinous: " The 2020 On the Road, a varietal Grenache, lifts from the glass with a...

96 points Int'l Wine Review: "Medium cherry cored with a watery rim in the glass, the 2020 Estate Weathereye Grenache is aged in 100% neutral oak but includes approximately 40% stems during fermentation. Crushed red raspberry, mountain blueberry, candied cherry, Red Mountain herbs, Blood orange zest, and fresh linen emerge on the nose. An elegant wine that glides across the tongue and finishes with a stunning red cherry note all over the palate. Another exquisite Grenache by the Weathereye team. Highly recommended." 94-96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Châteauneu...

98 points Int'l Wine Review: "The fascinating and exuberant 2020 Sur Echalas Vineyard Grenache from Horsepower showcases a medium to dark purple and ruby core with a silvery rim in the glass. Aromas bounce from the glass - think notes of wet earth, umami, crushed macerated red cherries, and blood orange essence. It has an interesting meaty quality to it that is quite intriguing. Gliding across the tongue with no rough edges at all, it ends silky smooth with ample acidity and a lovely earth and spice-driven finish. Just a small production of 300 cases wer...

93 points Wine Advocate: "93+ points "I tasted two vintages of some of the wines, like the blend of Garnacha Fina, Garnacha Peluda and Mazuela from the villages of Alpartir and Morata. The 2020 Telescópico Garnacha · Garnacha Peluda · Mazuela was cropped from a rainy year and had a similar vinification and élevage as the 2021 I tasted next to it—80% full clusters, indigenous yeasts and 12 to 14 months in 500-liter barrels and 2,500-liter oak vats. It's a little more Mediterranean and riper but without excess, a vintage with more fruit, and it's juicy and...

2020 Bodegas Azul y Garanza "Naturaleza Salvaje" Garnacha Navarra (Previously $30) (Previously $30)
Top Pick!
This organic wine comes from a producer committed to biodiversity. From the winery: "Low-production vineyards located in the influence area of the Desert of Bardenas Reales of Navarra (the biggest desert of Europe) and in the Pre-Pyrenees. The very poor and arid clay-calcareous soil, the dry weather and the big contrast of temperature between the day and the night provide grapes with high concentration and a perfect balance." *Organic*

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot in original wood; including 1-bottle of 2020 Sine Qua Non "Eleven Confessions Vineyard" Central Coast Grenache and 1-bottle of 2020 Sine Qua Non "Eleven Confessions Vineyard" Central Coast Syrah. Of the 2020 Sine Qua Non "Eleven Confessions Vineyard" Central Coast Grenache, Antonio Galloni's notes on the producer Vinous writes: "The intensely colored building on Santa Rosa Road is pretty hard to miss. The Krankls expect to move some of their production to this facility in the near future. That could be a pretty big deal for a region that lacks a physical presence of iconic estates. Elaine and Manfred Krankl were visionaries in identifying the eastern sector of the Sta. Rita Hills as an ideal spot for Rhône varieties more than twenty years ago when virtually no one was thinking about Grenache and Syrah here. That spot, which the Krankls define as 'a warm site in a cool region, ' is now Eleven Confessions." (07/2023)

Bid on this bottle of 2020 Alban "Estate Vineyard" Edna Valley Grenache ((95-97RP)). Wine Advocate: "Still in barrel, the 2020 Grenache Estate (blended with 5% Syrah) explodes with layered, kaleidoscopic fruit! Blueberries, raspberries and pomegranate are accented by tones of powdered sugar, game meat and cracked pepper. It has a noticeably fine texture and abundant yet chalky tannins and is balanced by bright, mouthwatering acidity. "It's a berry parade, " John Alban quips, yet it's an apt description for this juicy, youthfully fruity-driven Grenache. It will be released in the spring of 2024. (EB)" (08/2023)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2020 Cayuse "God Only Knows" Walla Walla Valley Grenache (97WE, 96JS, 96VN). Wine Enthusiast: "Orange-cranberry and black cherry aromas are joined by a heady combination of worn saddle leather, wet cobblestones and tobacco. Can a wine smell "rugged?" Flavors of blueberries, orange zest cocoa nibs glide across a silky texture lit by electrifying acidity and plush tannins. (MA)" (09/2023)

Of the 2020 Sine Qua Non "Eleven Confessions Vineyard" Central Coast Grenache, Jeb Dunnuck's notes on the producer writes: "I’ve been visiting with Sine Qua Non for a decade now, and I never cease to be amazed at the quality consistently coming from this address. In addition, Krankl somehow manages to deliver brilliance with just about any variety out there, and whether it’s Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Touriga Nacional, Roussanne, or even Petit Manseng, you can expect a truly riveting wine, as well as a wine with singular characteristics." Unfortunately, it’s all too common, particularly for those who don’t drink the wines often, to assume all California cult wines are over-ripe or heavy. The reality, however, couldn’t be more different, and great wines deliver intensity and depth while staying light on their feet and elegant." (08/2022)
