89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A ripe and attractively perfumed nose offers up notes of black cherry, spice and a discreet suggestion of wood. The sleek, delicious and notably finer middle weight flavors exude a lovely minerality that adds a sense of lift to the youthfully austere finale. As it usually is, this is really quite pretty." (04/2020)
Price: $49.99

89-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Like the Clos du Roy, the nose is brooding and almost mute while only grudgingly revealing its notes of ripe plum, warm earth and hint of violet. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the appealingly delineated and overtly stony flavors that possess much better depth and persistence on the youthfully austere finale. This will also need at least a few years of bottle age to unwind and flesh out." (01/2021) K&L Notes: 89-92 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "25% whole bunch vinification and 25% new ...

88-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "All but imperceptible wood influence is present on the ripe yet slightly fresher aromas of mostly dark berries along with earthy and mildly sauvage hints. There is slightly better underlying tension to the rich and sleek flavors that possess both good minerality and detail on the lingering and well-balanced finish that is both firmer yet finer. In contrast to the first two wines, this will need at least a few years of patience first." (01/2020) K&L Notes: 87-90 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Rich mid pur...

86-89 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A very ripe yet nicely fresh nose speaks of pepper and liqueur-like dark berry aromas. The sleek, intense and delicious flavors possess very good energy on the solidly complex and lingering finish. This is ripe yet it retains good vibrancy that renders it quite appealing. *Outstanding* " (04/2020)
Price: $26.99

88-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet application of wood frames equally ripe if more complex aromas of black cherry, plum, earth and a whiff of pepper. There is a bit more energy to the finer if not denser medium weight flavors that terminate in a rustic and slightly grippy finish. " (04/2021)
Price: $44.99

89-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a single grower, but representing for its cru the considerable sum of 9 barrels, Maison Potel’s 2008 Mazoyeres Chambertin smells penetratingly of kirsch, cherry jam, eucalyptus, and incense. Sweetly-fruited, sappy, and expansive on the palate, its underlying tannins come to the fore in a slightly rustic manner in the finish, which however is still impressively gripping, energetic, and intensely fruited as well as pungently herbal. This ought to merit at least a decade of cellaring, though I would want to ...

1998 Domaine Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru "Les Marconnets"
Top Pick!
88-90 points Vinous: "Medium red. Purer, cooler aromas of redcurrant, black cherry and leather. Juicy, pure and intensely flavored; dense with extract. The substantial but fine tannins really spread out over the palate. Long on the finish. Excellent potential. (ST)" (03/2020) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Much earthier than the foregoing wines with ripe, intense Pinot fruit and earthy, medium weight flavors that offer enough concentration and sap to balance the aggressive, though sufficiently ripe, tannins." (04/2001)
Price: $69.99

87-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A subtle but not imperceptible dollop of wood surrounds the super-fresh aromas of red and blue pinot fruit that is trimmed in hints of earth and underbrush. There is outstandingly density to the appealingly textured middle weight flavors that terminate in a robust and powerful but not really rustic finale. This is a terrific Bourgogne. *Burghound Outstanding Top Value!*" (01/2021) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, espresso roast and peony, the 2019 Bourgogne Rouge is ...

2019 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges Vieilles Vignes (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Dense aromas of black cherry, plum, earth and whiffs of wood and the sauvage give way to sleek, delicious and detailed flavors that are finer but not denser, all wrapped in an equally attractively textured finish that is more structured. This too is very good for its level plus it should reward up to a decade of cellaring. *Outstanding*" (01/2021) 89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of wild berries, smoked meats, orange rind and rich soil tones introduce the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vign...

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is aromatically similar to the Santenay but with more pepper and earth elements. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is both sleeker and finer and I particularly like the vibrancy that builds on the balanced, youthfully austere and sneaky long finale. This too would benefit from a bit more depth but in this case, it seems almost certain that more will develop in time." (04/2021)

88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain l’Exception has a gorgeous, very pure bouquet that soars from the glass: red cherries, bergamot and just a hint of wilted rose petals. There is real exuberance from the glass. The palate is full of ripe Morello cherry and fresh strawberry notes, extremely well-judged acidity and a poised, vivacious finish that is difficult to resist drinking directly from barrel! I always look forward to my visit to Michel Lafarge in the maze-like alleys of Volnay. In many ways it encapsulate...

89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has much more clarity and Gevrey character than the version without SO2; this is much better. The palate is medium-bodied with fine acidity. Crisp and focused, displaying great clarity on the finish. Sorry, but judging them side by side, the judicious addition of SO2 renders the wine more articulate of its origin... and it is a wine that you actually want to drink. Superb. (NM)" (01/2020) K&L Notes: 90 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Includes a 2ha block of Clos des Combes. Pretty, mid-pur...

89-91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Black cherry, mocha and game on the nose. Supple, lush and fine-grained, with harmonious supporting acidity. A muscular, slightly peppery wine with nicely restrained sweetness. (ST)" (03/2006)
Price: $129.99

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A slightly more floral-infused nose speaks of both lavender and violet on the spicy purple fruit nose. The succulent, vibrant and round medium weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the nicely detailed and lingering finale. This isn't as complex as the Longeroies, but I like the balance and sense of harmony." (01/2021) K&L Notes: Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "La Montagne faces south rather than the usual east. 25% whole bunch vinification, which the wine has digested well. Lovely vibrant crunchy fruit her...

89-91 points Vinous: "The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Village, which contains 40% whole bunch, takes a few swirls of the glass to meld together, finally delivering airy blackberry and bilberry scents, perhaps more Morey in style than the titular village. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, a granular texture and a salty, slightly brusque but fresh finish. Fine, but it will need some bottle age to smooth its edges. A second cuvée without the stems is perhaps just a little less interesting on the nose. Thomas Collardot is not sure what the fin...

2018 Domaine Cécile Chassagne Gigondas (Previously $25) (Previously $25)
Top Pick!
89-91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Gigondas is a wild, exotic wine that has crazy notes of green herbs, basil, blackcurrants, and violets, and there’s certainly a green edge here, yet it holds it together. A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre aging in tank and older barrels, it’s medium-bodied, has fine tannins, and an elegant, silky texture. It’s certainly an interesting, singular wine and has character." (09/2019) K&L Notes: Named for the family's second-generation winemaker, Cécile Chassagne took over the vineyard in Gigondas that ...

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Notes of sweet red berries, plums, spices and petals introduce Lamy's 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet La Goujonne, a medium-bodied, bright and fleshy wine built around lively acids and powdery tannins. A touch finer-boned than the more overtly muscular 2018, it is well worth seeking out. (WK)" (01/2021) K&L Notes: Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Pretty mid purple, very attractive perfume ripe fruit nose, quite soft on the palate, which I don’t think I have ever said before about this or any other Lamy red, long an...

89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a slightly rustic, ferrous bouquet that needs to knit together during the remainder of its élevage. The palate conveys satisfying sapidity and steely tannins. The taut, brisk, stony finish disguises the warmth of the growing season. Superb winemaking on display here. This is Pierre Duroché’s largest cuvée at 57 barrels. (NM)" (01/2020) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of ripe cherries, wild berries, spices and rich soil tones introduce the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, a medium-bodied...

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This too is pleasingly perfumed with its airy aromas of red cherry, currant and discreet spice wisps. There is excellent intensity to the mineral-suffused and delineated medium weight flavors that display fine focus on the linear, youthfully austere and dusty finish. As it often is in its youth, the mouthfeel seems a bit skinny but this wine has a proven track record of fleshing out with time in bottle. Recommended provided it's cellared." 89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Syrah is a big, juicy wine bursting with black fruit. It shows attractive inner perfume and plenty of mid-pliancy in a relatively delicate, soft style. Violets, licorice and spices wrap around the vinous, inviting finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. " (12/2012)
Price: $34.99

89-91 points Vinous: "The 2015 Zinfandel Duarte Vineyard is powerful, bold and direct in this vintage. Dark cherry, violet, spice and plum are front and center. Juicy, forward and supple, the 2015 is a good choice for drinking young, while the fruit remains vibrant. As always, Duarte is a blend of four sites; Evangelho, Del Barba and Mori, plus a bit of Salvador." (12/2016)

88-91 points Vinous: "The 2015 Zinfandel Mead Ranch from a site on Atlas Peak, is a powerful, savory wine. Dried cherry, cherry pit, herbs and white pepper are some of the nuances that give the wine its distinctive personality. The Mead Ranch is not as flashy as most of the other Zinfandels in the range. Today, the fruit is a bit muted and in the background. It will be interesting to see where this goes." (12/2016)

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A particular success is the début 2019 Monthélie Rouge, a lovely wine that unwinds to reveal notes of raspberries, plums, orange rind, spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's tightly wound and mineral, with real intensity and cut. I sensed that Loïc was just as taken aback by how well this has turned out as I was. Four barrels were produced. (WK)" (01/2021) K&L Notes: PLEASE NOTE: This pre-arrival item is being offered without any added tariffs. If there are applicable tariffs ...

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet application of wood can be found on the more floral-inflected aromas of pretty and relatively high-toned red berry fruit aromas that are cut with hints of newly turned earth and the sauvage. There is fine volume to the very punchy middle weight flavors that flash both very good depth and persistence on the mildly rustic finale. This has the potential to be an excellent Gevrey villages. *Outstanding!*" (01/2021) Vinous: "The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from vines up to 85 years old. It...

(WK)" (01/2020) Vinous: "The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village is a blend of 11 parcels and aged in 20% new oak. It offers pretty blueberry and raspberry aromas on the nose, which is quite understated in the context of the vintage. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry with supple ...

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Moderate wood influence surrounds the overtly spiced and ripe plum, dark currant and violet scents. The attractively textured, rich and sappy medium weight flavors possess very good depth on the lengthy finish where a touch of wood appears. This is quite good for its level and is a wine that should drink well on the younger side if that's your preference." (01/2020) 88-90 points Vinous: "The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village was the only cru that had been racked when I visited in mid-November. The bouquet is well defin...

88-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is also quite pretty with its mix of plum, red currant and freshly turned earth wisps. The supple, round and succulent medium weight flavors possess an almost salty and equally refreshing finish that is notably firmer. " (01/2021) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village opens in the glass with notes of wild berry fruit, plums, spices and loamy soil. (01/2021) 88-90 points Vinous: "The 2019 Côte de Nuits-Villages comes from vines over 60 years old and was completely destemmed. It was picked later in September. The tight nose offers a mixture of blueberry and blackberry fruit, the whole bunch more influential than any carbonic, with strong black pepper notes. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins that provide commendable structure, and no sign of overripeness despite the late picking. Saline black fruit appears on the finish. This is a very good Gevrey villages and worth checking out. *Outstanding*" (01/2021) Vinous: "The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Champ offers bright black cherries and crushed violet aromas. 89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Le Clos is promising, unwinding in the glass with scents of cherries, raspberries, raw cocoa and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with tangy acids and melting tannins, it concludes with a penetrating finish. The 2019 vintage—which began on September 9 at this address—is another terrific success for Pierre Duroché. Volumes are down, with yields averaging around 30 hectoliters per hectare, but quality continues to climb: Supple, dynamic and concentrated, all these...

This is a lovely Chambolle villages that should also drink fairly well early on. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (01/2021) Vinous: "The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a tightly wound bouquet of mostly red fruit, though the 35% new oak is nicely integ...

This is a muscular Nuits that contrasts with its supple, sappy 2017 counterpart. 89-91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "What was formerly known as the Lalande-Boire, the 2019 Le Petit Ducru De Ducru-Beaucaillou checks in as mostly Merlot yet includes 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. It has beautiful Saint-Julien purity and elegance as well as lots of cassis, tobacco, violets, and lead pencil aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, supple, and elegant on the palate, it's a beautiful wine well worth drinking." The palate is equipped with fine, supple tannins that render this a pliant Gevrey-Chambertin, although there is some new oak on the finish that needs to be subsumed. At 60%, I can see how a little more prudence might have been preferable. Not bad, but I would like to see how this develops and eats up that new wood. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip on the entry. Quite a structured Chambolle-Musigny Village with a finish that more echoes a Morey-Saint-Denis. A finely crafted yet serious Chambolle. 87-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is that same whisper of pepper on the ripe nose of cassis and poached plum that is liberally laced with earth nuances. 89-91 points Vinous: "The 2020 Chasse-Spleen offers attractive wild strawberry, blackberry and rose petal scents on the nose, which is well defined and very cohesive. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, a smooth texture and cedar and leather notes infusing the red fruit. I am just seeking a little more backbone and grip on the finish of this Chasse-Spleen, although it should still give 15–20 years of drinking pleasure. (NM)" (05/2021)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1999 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ((87-90ST)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep fresh ruby-red. Brooding aromas of currant syrup, licorice, naphtha and tobacco leaf. Fairly intense flavors similar to the aromas. Still quite youthfully tight, but offers solid concentration and very good length. Just a hint of greenness on the end; the firm tannins reach the teeth. (ST)" (06/2002)

Bid on this 3-bottle tasting lot; including 2-bottles of 2004 Domaine Michel Magnien Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru "Millandes" and 1-bottle of 2005 Domaine Michel Magnien Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru "Millandes". Of the 2005 Domaine Michel Magnien Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru "Millandes", Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Certainly ripeness and sheer intensity are not in question here. A 2005 Morey-St.-Denis Les Millandes leads with lightly-cooked blackberry and resinous, smoky, bacon fat accents on the nose, fills the mouth with glossy, concentrated, almost liqueur-like blackberry fruit, nut oils, and oak-induced macaroon, vanilla and resin. There is a fortunate preservation of acidity helping keep the finish lively and the wine’s abundant tannins are undeniably fruit-coated. (RP)" (06/2007)
Starting Bid: $120.00

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine René Engel Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru ((89-92BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As is usually the case chez Engel, this is the class of the cellar with very spicy black fruit aromas leading to robust, powerful and moderately structured flavors that offer excellent intensity and fine finishing persistence. Despite the rugged tannins in evidence today, this is more accessible than it usually is and I suspect it will accessible relatively early yet be capable of holding well. A lovely if forward effort." (01/2004)
Starting Bid: $2,038.88

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Jean Raphet et Fils Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Cuvée Unique ((89-91BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Much more reserved and borderline austere than any prior wine with lovely aromas of blueberry, violets and earth that introduce relatively big, robust, rich flavors that display solid tannins. This is no heavy weight but it displays solid character and good vibrancy for the vintage and admirable drive on the long finish." (01/2002)
Starting Bid: $160.00

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1993 Domaine René Leclerc Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Combe Aux Moines" ((86-92RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I tasted Rene Leclerc's bottled 1993s twice. They are powerful, rich, concentrated red Burgundies that should age well for 10-12+ years. The two scores given for the Gevrey-Chambertin Combe aux Moine and Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St.-Jacques represent Leclerc's regular cuvee and a special cuvee made from specific barrels selected by North Berkeley Wine and bottled with neither fining nor filtering. Both of the North Berkeley wines exhibited much sweeter, richer, more fleshy palates, with greater depth, ripeness, and intensity. The regular bottlings, although very good efforts for the vintage, exhibited more tannin and astringency. Both of these wines exhibit considerable body, richness, and outstanding potential. (RP)" (08/1995)
