98 points John Gilman: "The 2017 Chambertin from Domaine Rousseau is a magical wine. Recall that this was far more heavily-frosted in 2016 than was the case with the Clos de Bèze, so the pent up energy in the vines was channeled into great depth and concentration in the 2017, due to the Rousseau family reining in the yields earlier in the season. The perfumed nose soars from the glass in a complex blaze of plums, cherries, raspberries, grilled meats, cocoa powder, a glorious base of soil, woodsmoke and a suave foundation of nutty new oak. On the palate t...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Big, with cooking spice accents to burnished dark plum and dried blackberry flavors that are supported by fresh acidity. Dark chocolate and toffee linger on finish, which features medium-grained tannins. (KM)" (06/2021) K&L Notes: Over the past two decades, Kosta Browne has risen to prominence among California Pinot enthusiasts as a premier source for boutique, single-vineyard bottlings of extraordinary purity and luxurious complexity. The Gap's Crown vineyard is synonymous with Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. The elevation, exposur...

2016 Sea Smoke "Ten" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Back In Stock!
93 points Vinous: "Sea Smoke's 2016 Pinot Noir Ten is rich, boisterous and inviting from the very first taste. A wine of real immediacy and impact, the Ten has so much to offer. Black cherry, plum, hard candy, lavender, sweet spice and new oak are front and center in this lush, beautifully persistent Pinot Noir from Sea Smoke. The Ten will appeal most to readers who appreciate lush Pinots. There is certainly plenty to like here, that much is obvious. (AG)" (09/2019) K&L Notes: A darling of the critics, Sea Smoke remains of the Central Coast's cult Pin...

95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard opens with striking, floral-infused aromatics that give the wine presence and structure. Savory and finely cut, with superb delineation, and tons of depth, the Alpine is positively stellar today. Layers of fruit enshroud the tannins, making them barely perceptible. The 2018 is a stunning Pinot from Alpine, a site originally planted with 17 heritage clones. (AG) 95+" (09/2020) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Redcurrants, flowers, chalky minerality, spice, and loamy soil notes all emerge from the 2018 Pinot ...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "A perennial knockout, this wine combines vineyard sites from its namesake Westside Road. Flavors of smoke, strawberry, forest floor and black tea accent a velvety, lush palate, ending with a fresh, savory edge. (VB)" (05/2019) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Spice cherries, wild strawberries, and crushed violets, notes, as well as plenty of spice, all emerge from the 2017 Pinot Noir Westside Road Neighbors. This Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is medium-bodied, has a wonderful sense of purity and ripe fruit, ultra-fine tannins, a we...

96 points Decanter: "Sourced from a clonal nursery test-block planted in 1989. Tobacco, tree sap, and rose petals on the nose. The palate is deft and lifted with a savoury, cured meat-like element showing itself. A structured and definitive Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir for the long haul. (ML)" (10/2020) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Named for the winemaker's late mother, this particular bottling is always a standout. It offers entangled layers of tangerine, strawberry and earthy leather. This is a fine wine to consider cellaring. (VB) " (06/2019) 95 points ...

96 points Decanter: "Thibault Liger-Belair's Charmes-Chambertin comes from the Aux Charmes climat, close to Chambertin. Made with 70% whole bunches (with the central stem removed) and 100% new wood, this is fresh, sappy and very aromatic, with subtle wood, some clove and white pepper spice and good underlying minerality and tension, as the French like to say. Drinking Window 2025 - 2030. (TA)" (11/2018) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru contains more than 70% whole cluster fruit, from the lieu-dit of Aux Charmes, that suffers ...

2018 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
New!
96 points Decanter: "The Drouhins' 1ha of Bonnes Mares is entirely located on red soils and was planted in different stages. Fermented with 30% stems and aged in 80% new wood, this is a plush, layered, well upholstered Pinot Noir, exhibiting the ripeness of the vintage, fine-grained tannins and more than enough acidity and minerality for balance. Comparatively well priced, too. (TA)" (10/2019) 94-96 points Vinous: "The 2018 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru contains 30% whole clusters. It has a perfumed bouquet of blackberry, hints of cassis, crushed violet and t...

1999 Vincent Girardin Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (nicked label)
New!
90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Brilliant ruby red and classic Clos de la Roche character with its mix of black and red fruit, rich powerful flavors, sleekly muscular tannins, intense goût de terroir and terrific length. I was especially impressed with the persistence. Grand cru in every respect." (04/2001) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Decadent and fleshy Pinot, slightly earthy, with plenty of chocolate, truffle and black and red berry character. Complex, so round and seductive, this full-bodied wine vows you with its charm and terroir personali...

95 points Decanter: "Laurent Lignier combines fruit from two Premiers Crus - mostly Les Faconnières with 25% from Les Chenevery - to produce what he calls 'our emblematic cuvée'. It's a beautifully judged marriage of terroirs, with rose petal and lily aromas, considerable concentration and minerality, fine-boned tannins and a poised, balletic finish. Drinking Window 2024 - 2032. (TA)" (10/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Unwinding in the glass with a deep, youthfully reserved bouquet of cassis, plums, rich soil tones, dark chocolate and ...

95 points Decanter: "Thibault Liger-Belair used the highest ever amount of whole bunches in this wine in 2017 - 30%. It's an impressive old-vine cuvée made from a parcel planted in 1931. Less toasty than the 2016 was at the same stage, this has lots of plush, textured fruit, some peppery spice and nuanced tannins. A lick of chalky minerality freshens the finish. (TA)" (11/2018) 92-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An exuberantly spicy nose of black cherry, violet, lilac and Asian-style tea is trimmed in a touch of wood toast. There is once again go...

1999 Calera "Jensen Vineyard" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir
Back In Stock!
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A spectacular young Pinot Noir (one of the greatest New World Pinots I have tasted), the 1999 Jensen Vineyard boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as a phenomenal bouquet of black raspberry, cherry, currant, white flower, and forest floor scents. Dense and full-bodied, it is explosive on the palate yet neither heavy nor overdone. An extraordinary expression of Pinot Noir, this penetrating, staggeringly concentrated, yet elegant and gracious 1999 should drink well for 12-15 years. Wow! (RP)" (04/2003)

96 points Decanter: "Laurent Lignier uses 0.8ha of his two holdings in the climats of Les Fremières and Monts Luisants to produce this refined expression of Clos de la Roche. Savoury and sweet, with 30% whole clusters adding aromatic spices and extra structure in 2018, this is graceful, subtle and concentrated with palate-caressing summer berry fruit and refreshing palate length. Drinking Window 2026 - 2036. (TA)" (10/2019) 94-96 points Vinous: "The 2018 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru comprises one-third whole bunch and 30% new oak. The nose is uncharacter...

94 points Decanter: "This is rich, sweet and just a little farmyardy but with oodles of perfume, texture and plush, smooth, palate-coating fruit. It's a Les St-Georges to drink and enjoy comparatively young. There's some tannin and acidity here, but it's the sweet berry fruit that predominates. (TA)" (11/2018) 92-94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru includes 40% whole cluster fruit, the most that Thibaut has used thus far. Matured in 60% new oak, it has a refined bouquet of pure black cherries, black currant, briar ...

2018 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
New!
93-95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is a vineyard where half the vineyard was pulled out in winter 2018. It does not deliver quite the same precision and detail as the Chapelle-Chambertin this year. Intense blackberry, raspberry and light cedar aromas unfold gently in the glass. The palate is well balanced with more red fruit compared to the Chapelle, a slightly creamy texture and a sensual, very harmonious, quite rich yet detailed finish. It might drink slightly earlier than the Chapelle-Chambertin, but it may well have equal...
Price: $169.99

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An outstanding wine. A pronounced raspberry, damp earthy nose that is quite brusque and masculine. Is that a touch of toffee there after a time in the glass? The palate has superb weight, very good concentration with a supple mouthfeel. Black cherries, redcurrants and raspberry. Very persistent on the finish. Chapelle is usually a little lighter of the Chambertin Grand Crus: but this is excellent. (NM)" (02/2006) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep red. Dark cherry, dried ros...

97 points Decanter: "The Méo section of the Clos is extremely well placed: the majority is in Chioures, near the top. Lavalle referred to this as ‘Musigny-Chioures,' a testament to its ability to combine elegance and finesse with power and depth of flavour. The fruit is all destemmed and fermented on native yeasts in concrete, with extraction by a gentle combination of pumping over and punching down. There is a bit more presence than the Lamarche, with vibrancy and tension, yet the wine makes a stunning impression with a lovely purity of red and black fr...

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The nose offers up rich, very dense fruit but the sweet flavors are remarkably supple with prominent tannins on the long finish. Solidly constructed with very good persistence." (04/2001)
Price: $199.99

89-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a single grower, but representing for its cru the considerable sum of 9 barrels, Maison Potel’s 2008 Mazoyeres Chambertin smells penetratingly of kirsch, cherry jam, eucalyptus, and incense. Sweetly-fruited, sappy, and expansive on the palate, its underlying tannins come to the fore in a slightly rustic manner in the finish, which however is still impressively gripping, energetic, and intensely fruited as well as pungently herbal. This ought to merit at least a decade of cellaring, though I would want to ...

According to Jasper Morris: "The Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pére et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731 though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house, Joseph Henriot, acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Today Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet while the wines are made by Philippe Prost who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005, enabling them, to process all their wines with optimum effi...

90-92 points Vinous: "The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny les Gruenchers 1er Cru is the final vintage before the contract ends [it will go to Domaine Sigault] and contains 40% whole clusters. There is some reduction on the nose that makes this difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit and gentle grip. Quite saline in the mouth, leading to an elegant, refined finish with slightly darker red fruit than the entry. Very promising. (NM)" (01/2019) K&L Notes: 90-94pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "40% whole bunch vinification. Dense ...

91-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The spectacular Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques possesses a black color, as well as intense and complex aromatics of coffee, roasted herbs, cassis, cherries, stones and flowers. Produced in equal parts from 90 and 50+ year old vineyards, this wine offers an amazingly deep, silky, sultry yet elegant flavor profile packed with tangy, sweet cherries. Highly structured and full-bodied, Laurent referred to it as a "reactionary Gevrey." It will be at its best between 2002-2012. This note is the result of tastin...

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 18 barrels of the 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis Trilogie, and it's the usual blend of 60% Chenevery, 30% Porroux and 15% Clos Solon. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, cassis, smoked meats, candied peel and cinnamon, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a layered core, powdery tannins and a long, sapid finish. Yields were low—around 30 hectoliters per hectare—explained by the old vines, some of which are trained in cordon. Laurent Lignier has once again produced a fin...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard comes from a mostly southwest-facing vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains (planted to a heritage selection of clones) and was brought up in a mix of new and used French oak. It offers a complex, nuanced style that carries lots of spiced red fruits, forest floor, smoked earth, potpourri, and a touch of sassafras and sagebrush. Complex, medium-bodied, silky, and beautifully balanced on the palate, it checks in behind the 2015 and 2016 but is nevertheless a beautiful, elegant, seamless Pinot Noir t...

2018 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
New!
95 points Decanter: "The Drouhins' parcel is located behind the château in the Clos de Vougeot and has produced a firm, rich, powerful wine in 2018 with plenty of colour, flavour and extract. Aged in 80% new oak, it has impressive perfume, weight and concentration, with sinewy tannins, considerable fragrance and succulent bramble and black cherry fruit. (TA)" (10/2019) 93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has an intense nose of red currant and wild strawberry fruit, plus mint and a touch of graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with mo...

92-94 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Fonteny 1er Cru comes from the domaine’s monopole. It has a well-defined, quite leafy bouquet that is a little timid at the moment compared to its siblings. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, a mixture of red and blueberry fruit and superb salinity and tension on the elegant finish. Recommended - one of Clair's hidden gems as everyone goes for the Clos Saint-Jacques! (NM)" (01/2020) 90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A cool, pure and elegant nose consists of aromas that mos...

2017 Kosta Browne "Cerise Vineyard" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
New!
96 points James Suckling: "This has such deep, red-fruit aromas and a beautifully sappy edge, too. The vibrant fruit here is so striking and so deep with a glossy feel and very fine, silky tannins. This is so full of pleasure. So supple and silky. Drink or hold." (09/2019) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Vibrant, offering concentrated cherry flavors that feature rich pastry notes, backed by firm tannins and powerful acidity. Mineral and spice details show on the restrained, pure-tasting finish. (KM)" (10/2020) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The...

The grand cru Clos de Tart is one of the most iconic vineyards in Burgundy. The Mommessin family, sole owners of the Clos, make this wonderful second wine from the three youngest parcels which are declassified to 1er cru.
Price: $169.99

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Intense red berry aromas are found in the nose of the 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Le Poissenot. This powerful, flavorful, sappy effort is crammed with loads of black cherries, violets, red fruits, and spices. Gorgeously concentrated, pure, and long in the finish, it is an extroverted, fruit-dominated, medium to full-bodied wine. Projected maturity: 2005-2012. (PR) " (06/2004) 90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The wood is much more subtle and is limited to the nose, framing attractive, mineral-infused, even sligh...

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep, saturated red. Reticent but superripe aromas of black raspberry, violet and licorice; slightly jammy character. Large-scaled, dense and sweet; really stuffed with fruit. Very long, subtle finishing flavor. Tannins are substantial but sweet, and thoroughly enrobed by fruit. May ultimately merit a higher score. 88-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An attractively fresh and surprisingly elegant array offers up notes of earthy dark currant, plum and a whisper of spice. There is good energy and delineation to the lighter weight flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the delicious, moderately firm and more complex finale." (01/2020) 91 points John Gilman: "The Gevrey-Chambertin “les Seuvrées” is again from older vines (sixty to sixty-five years of age) and they seem to have navigated the heat of the summer of 2018 better than those in le Reniard. The win...

93-95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a perfumed, floral bouquet of rose petal and potpourri scents enmeshed with raspberry preserve and strawberry. The palate is very fresh on the entry, offering superb tannins, wonderful acidity and great cohesion toward the mineral-rich finish. This is a stupendous wine that will age for 20–30 years. (NM)" (01/2020) 91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A much more deeply pitched nose exhibits notes of plum, cassis and the sauvage while also being trimmed in hints of wood and ...

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Volnay has a beautiful, floral bouquet with exceptionally pure red cherry and fresh strawberry fruit, almost crystalline (and I still had to get to the premier crus!) The palate is very well balanced with real tension. This is a nicely structured, slightly more masculine Volnay with plenty of energy toward the vibrant finish. Excellent. (NM)" (12/2014) 90 points John Gilman: "The 2013 Volnay villages from Frédéric Lafarge is a fine bottle in the making. The nose is pure, bright and red fruity, offer...

2016 Kosta Browne "Gap's Crown Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Back In Stock!
96 points James Suckling: "Lots of purple fruit with cherry and raspberry character and hints of violets on the nose. Full body that is very dense with defined layers. Yet, remains agile and fresh. Hints of salt. A little reserved now. Needs two or three years of bottle age. " (05/2018) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Pinot Noir Gaps Crown comes from a great, great site on the Sonoma Coast and saw 15% whole clusters and 40% new wood. It’s a deep, rich, blacker fruit-driven effort that shows more and more savory, iron, and earthy notes with time in the...

95 points Decanter: "Fermented with 40% whole bunches for the first time in 2017 as an experiment, this has to be considered a success, adding a layer of Asian spices to the wine. Precise and refined, with lots of sappy, refreshing fruit, this is one of a series of delightful Lafarge wines this year. (TA) " (10/2018) 91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again the elegant nose is cool, airy and restrained with its gorgeous aromas of rose petal, lavender and freshly crushed cherry and raspberry scents that are liberally laced with spice hints....

91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A pretty and relatively airy nose offers up notes of spicy anise-suffused tea, plum, dark cherry and a hint of raspberry. Like a number of wines in the range, the texture of the larger-scaled flavors is beguiling before culminating in a muscular and powerful if slightly raspy but not drying finish. This too is going to need extended cellaring as it's presently quite tightly wound." (04/2020) K&L Notes: 93-96 points Jasper Morris for Inside Burgundy: "Lovely clear even purple colour. There is a sensual class to t...

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village wafts from the glass with an inviting bouquet of raspberries, spices, orange rind, rich soil tones and espresso roast. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, with fine structuring tannins, succulent acids and a long, delicately perfumed finish. The velvety and punch...

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A riper nose reflects notes of poached plum, red currant, violet and a plethora of spice suggestions. The supple and relatively forward mid-palate of the moderately dense flavors immediately tighten up on the impressively complex and persistent finish that is shaped by a notably firm tannic spine that will require extended patience to resolve. I like the vibrancy and this is really quite good. " (01/2020) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from 1.32 hectares of vine in the lieu-dit of Les C...

88-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A slightly more deeply pitched nose features notes of plum-suffused red cherry and sandalwood scents that unveil plenty of Vosne-style spice elements. There is good richness to the caressing and delicious medium-bodied flavors that tighten up somewhat on the lingering and focused finale. This will need to develop more depth with time in bottle but should it do that it should merit the upper end of my projected range." (01/2020) 89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru comes from just over...

94 points Decanter: "This nearly 1ha premier cru vineyard is among my favourites from Gouges, year after year. In 2018 the wines have wonderful purity and freshness, despite the heat, and the aromatics are alluring: crushed violets, nutmeg and dark cherries. Beautiful and focused with firm, ripe, supple tannins. Aged for 18 months in 20% new barriques. Long finish. (JCL)" (02/2020) 94 points John Gilman: "The 2018 Vaucrains chez Gouges is an excellent wine in the making- powerful and loaded with pure fruit and firm tannins, but not as massive as the ve...

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An expressive, spicy and relatively high-toned nose of both red and black pinot fruit that is terrifically complex introduces fresh, intense and notably mineral-driven medium full flavors blessed with plenty of dry extract that lends a real sense of body and fullness to the firm and vibrant finish underpinned by a lovely feeling of tension and punch. Interestingly, the tannins are slightly less refined than those of the Echézeaux but it matches it in virtually ever other category. This may very well be the best vinta...

92-94 points Vinous: "The 2018 Nuit Saint-Georges Les Roncières 1er Cru comes from a one-hectare parcel of around 60-year-old vines. It has a clean, precise bouquet of blackberry, briar, crushed rocks and light marine scents (oyster shell and crustacean), understated and quite reserved for this domaine. The medium-bodied palate offers sappy black fruit, displaying more sapidity than Les Bousselottes and fanning out gently toward the finish. This feels quite approachable in style thanks to its silky finish. Touches of hoisin and truffle emerge on the afte...

96 points Decanter: "Perfumed, refined and showing none of the firmness that Aux Malconsorts can exhibit in its youth, this is balanced, nuanced and spicy, with 75% whole bunches adding some freshness and texture, all framed by 70% new wood. Not a blockbuster wine by any means, but this has considerable class, poise and palate length with succulent red berry fruit to the fore. 2014 Kosta Browne "Koplen Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Back In Stock!
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A pretty, even elegant, Russian River release is the 2014 Pinot Noir Koplen Vineyard, which saw around 20% whole clusters and just under a quarter of new oak. Plums, spice box, black cherries and violets all flow to a medium to full-bodied, pure, seamless and silky 2014 that has fine tannin, no hard edges and a great finish. (JD)" (09/2016) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Begins restrained but expands, gaining velocity and depth, with gravel-laced tannins and supple plum and black cherry flavors. Impressive for the ...

94 points Decanter: "A bold and spicy nose full of black pepper, black cherries and clove which combine to give a soft savoury and fruity expression. Such vivacity and life force on the palate, the wine just jumps out of the glass, mouthfilling but with a lightness of touch and soft chalky tannins. Touch of oak gives structure and elegance to the bright cherry and raspberry fruit. From a 1.4 hectare clay-limestone plot, 50% parcel was planted in 1979, the other half in 1987. The wine is aged on the lees for 16-18 months, of which 12 months are spent in o...

94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées is brilliant, unfurling in the glass with an exquisite bouquet of sweet red berries, cherries, orange rind, smoked duck and exotic spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and enveloping wine framed by velvety tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long and youthfully chalky finish. From a parcel planted in the 1930s, I often think that Aux Brûlées is Méo's finest wine; and while I'd give the Cros Parantoux the edge this year, it is a superb e...
