2019 Denman Ranch "Van der Kamp Vineyard" Sonoma Mountain Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $65) (Elsewhere $65)
Top Pick!
What do you get when you take the ex-Cellarmaster of Littorai, plus the Assistant Winemaker from Flowers, plus a free rein and ample funding to make the very best wines you can for a new winery...then a global pandemic comes along? The answer is phenomenal wines, from top quality, iconic vineyards, at ridiculously sharp pricing. These wines came onto my radar as a tip from a good friend on the winemaking team at Rhys Vineyards. Another winemaking friend of his had a parcel of wines from a startup project that had "changed direction" in the face of the Co...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Rita's Crown Vineyard saw the same one-third stems as well as 16 months in 57% new French oak. It's a more ethereal, elegant effort and has gorgeous notes of ripe strawberries, white flowers, spice, and forest floor. A very unique vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Sitting high on the crest of a ridge, the vineyard's very thin soil is littered with large chunks of fractured basalt. 2018 Hirsch "San Andreas Fault" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Pinot Noir San Andreas Fault is one of the more up-front, fruit-driven wines in the lineup. It offers ample Bing cherry and almost blackberry and mulberry-like fruit supported by sappy herb and flower aromas and flavors. Nicely textured on the palate, medium to full-bodied, up-front and juicy, it has lots of charm and will unquestionably continue to drink nicely for at least 7-8 years, and I suspect even longer." (07/2021) 94 points James Suckling: "Lots of pure fruit here with crushed strawberries, flowers, dried mushr...

Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "This has attractive, rich and dark cherries and plums, some earth and very rich, attractively captured fruit with brambly notes. 2019 Capiaux "Chimera" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Pinot Noir Chimera is delicious this vintage and a great value. Medium ruby, it's intensely scented of raspberry liqueur, blood orange, licorice, iron and earth. The full-bodied palate is plush, silky and open with generous, spicy fruits and a very long finish. 2018 Domaine Christophe Buisson Bourgogne Rouge
Top Pick!
The importer Kermit Lynch calls Buisson's wines "very user friendly" and at some of the most approachable prices to be found in Burgundy today, worth seeking out. Based in St-Romain, a small, under-the-radar appellation behind Meursault, Christophe has been focused on meticulous viticulture and minimalist winemaking for the better part of a decade.
Price: $19.99

Château de la Charrière is one of our most popular direct import producers and a label that easily represents the best bang for your buck we carry in Burgundy. Formerly run by Yves Girardin, the business is now run by his young son Benoit, who definitely has modernized the winemaking a bit since his first vintage in 2011. Whereas the wines were a bit funky and rustic previously, the past few vintages are much cleaner, showcasing the pureness of the Pinot Noir by de-stemming completely so as to remove excess tannic structure.

Superfine tannins and oak provide the texture and length of a lovely Pinot." 2017 Torti Barbera Oltrepò Pavese
Top Pick!
The Barbera grapes for this wine were grown in vineyards dating back to the early 19th century. It's a vibrant ruby red in the glass with a dry, full body. With almost eight years of age since the vintage date, this wine is absolutely singing in the glass. The fruit is still lush and full on the palate, but it is tempered by stunning savory notes of mushroom and forest floor. The acidity is still fresh and bright, making this a great food wine. This is a great example of how a fuller bodied Pinot can age gracefully and retain a beautiful balance if made well.
