93-94 points John Gilman: "The 2004 Clos des Ducs is reasonably open on the nose, but the door is still slammed shut on the palate. The nose offers up a fine, primary blend of red berries, quince, a bit of blood orange, coffee, strong soil tones, herbs, vinesmoke and delicate violets. On the palate the wine is fullish, very complex for a young wine and beautifully balanced, with a rock solid core of fruit, and a very long, very closed finish. The acids here give the wine a beautiful, tensile quality, and the ripe tannins are just buried in the structure ...

92-95 points Vinous: "(the entire bottom of this vineyard was fried by frost, according to régisseur François Duvivier): Bright, dark red-ruby. Medicinal blueberry and licorice aromas are lifted by a minty high note; less showy and more restrained on the nose than the Taillepieds and Caillerets today. Then wonderfully dense, primary and pure on the palate, but more vertical and less opulent than the Taillepieds and Caillerets. Strong mineral energy accentuates the impression of vibrancy. A bit less open to inspection today owing to its firm tannic spine....
