2016 Domaine des Sénéchaux Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "As to the red, rocking levels of kirsch, black raspberries, toasted spices, and garrigue emerge from the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It's full-bodied, concentrated, pure and elegant, with sweet tannin, and an opulent, flamboyant style. Based largely on Grenache, with smaller amounts of Syrah and Mourvèdre, it has fine tannin, impeccable balance, and a great finish. Along with the 2010, it’s the finest wine to date from this estate." (08/2018) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I appear to have underestimated the 2016 Chatea...

2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
94 points International Wine Review: "The 2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino begins with a gorgeous aromatic profile of cherries, orange zest, grapefruit juice and fresh ginger which all come together beautifully in this young Brunello. On the palate this is medium-to full-bodied, structured with soft, round tannins and a precise finish that is solid and compact. This will be accessible young but should develop also nicely with some short-term cellaring and drink beautifully for years to come. RV" (03/2020) 94 points James Suckling: "Quite und...

2017 Ata Rangi Pinot Noir Martinborough
Top Pick!
98 points James Suckling: "Really pristine fruit aromas here with such pure, ripe red cherries and roses, as well as gently earthy and spicy nuances. Very fresh, precisely ripe and a pinot you can sit and just breathe in for days. The palate has a velvety layer that few others manage to find; silky at the core, succulent in the center and delivering such vibrant, red-cherry flavors in a long, pristine and fresh, red-cherry finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap." (08/2019) 98 points Sam Kim: "Offering graceful power and immense complexity, the wine shows dar...

2017 Mount Edward Pinot Noir Central Otago
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "This has attractive, rich and dark cherries and plums, some earth and very rich, attractively captured fruit with brambly notes. The palate has a central core of sweet, ripe fruit, framed and wrapped in chalky, lithe tannins. This has layering and detail, another step in delivering structure in this Pinot. From organically grown grapes." (08/2019) 95 points Sam Kim: "Combining gorgeous fruit ripeness with seductive savoury undertones, the wine shows ripe plum, cherry, cedar, warm spice and dark mushroom characters. The impres...

2016 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe 6-Pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
100 points James Suckling: "This is muscular yet so well defined and toned. Full-bodied with deep and dense fruit on the palate, yet powerful and rich at the same time. So much sandalwood and blackberry character. Chewy and rich at the finish. This is a warm and generous wine, but the alcohol is just over 13 degrees. Not that high. Love the finish. Extravagant. Magical. Try from 2025." (02/2019) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in July 2018, it is deep garnet-purple colored and starts off a little closed and reticent, opening out slow...

2015 Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Beautiful ripeness, but also balance on the nose, which features cinnamon, dried cedar, dried plums, dark chocolate and licorice. Expansive and comprehensive on the palate with outward-veering tannins and lots of treacle-tart undertones. Chewy and decadent." (10/2019) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Here's an elegant and classic expression of the vintage. The Sesta di Sopra 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows solid balance with its dark fruit flavors offset by tart cherry and fresh menthol. The oak tones are nicely tu...

91 points James Suckling: "Fresh summer berries and a palate that has a red-fruit layer, ahead of deeper blue fruit through the finish. Mid-weight, but big on flavor." (10/2019) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Silky and refined in feel, with gently mulled cherry and plum notes that glide along, picking up light flashes of anise and black tea along the way. (JM)" (02/2020) K&L Notes: Originally founded in 1931 in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Brotte family has since combined four different Rhône estates under the Maison Brotte emblem. Working sustainably and ce...

1999 Fontesteau, Haut-Medoc
New!
91 points Decanter: "The Wine Society has a treat for members: a six-bottle vertical from this estate of 1996-2001 for £105. The 1996 is sold out by the bottle but is the pick of the case, followed by this lovely 1999, which shows great weight and concentration of cigar spice, meaty blue fruits, pencil lead and grippy tannins. A classic claret drinking beautifully now. (TG)" (09/2018)
Price: $24.99

92 points James Suckling: "The quality of the fruit and tannins are very pretty here. It’s full-bodied, with round velvety texture and a delicious finish. Very impressive." (07/2014) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm tannins, but also ripe, sweet fruits, with a fine balance. While the wine is on the light, fresh side, it does have a good, final structure. (RV)" (04/2010) K&L Notes: At the very top of the Haut-Médoc, embedded in a sea of gravel just next to the Gironde River north of St-Estèphe, sits the anomaly of the Left Bank: Château Coufran, th...

2020 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion 6-Pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98-100 points Decanter: "Spice, anis, rosemary, blackcurrant leaf, redcurrants, mint and peonies - the full array of aromatics are on display here, and there is an enveloping aspect to the fruit once you get to the body of the wine. The tannins are compact and powerful but they are wrapped in plump raspberry and blackberry brambled fruits. The wine feels full of life, with acidity that pulls the palate forward from the first moment, before austerity kicks in on the finish and closes things in, suggesting an extremely long life ahead. Hard to argue with t...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Syrah, the 2019 Cotes du Rhone is a medium-bodied, very drinkable and red-fruited offering. Herb-inflected raspberries and strawberries, silky tannins and a gently astringent finish add up to a solid effort for near-term drinking. (JC)" (11/2020) K&L Notes: The Verquière estate has been passed down from father to son for many generations and is now managed by Thibaut Chamfort. Following age-old traditions and sustainable practices, the estate was recently certified organic. The Côtes-du-Rhô...

2015 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino
Top Pick!
93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dust and ripe fruit such as dried redcurrants, strawberry jam and raspberry fool. Lots of mahogany and old piano too. Decadent with dark-chocolate flavors and rustic tannnins, but there’s a fine line of acidity to drive this to a tidy if silty finish. " (10/2019) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of fragrant purple flower, crushed mint and woodland berry mingle with a whiff of dark spice. Mirroring the nose, the linear palate shows sour cherry, orange zest, star anise and a smoky note alongside dusty tannins and fr...

2010 Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
92-93 points James Suckling: "This is a wine that shows lots of chocolate, tobacco and currants. Full body, with velvety tannins and a long finish. All there." (04/2011) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From Helene Garcin, this blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot displays classic tobacco leaf and smoky barbecue notes along with rich black currants and crushed rocks in a medium to full-bodied, seductive, attractively up-front style. Some Asian plum sauce is also noticeable in this complex, evolved and delicious wine, which can be dru...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Old vines, planted in 1940 by the producer’s ancestors, give a powerful wine with ripe tannins as well dark black-cherry flavors. Richness gives it the possibility of some aging. Drink now. (RV)" (02/2021) K&L Notes: Starting with an inheritance of 2 hectares of vines perched on a hillside above the village of Beaujeu in the heart of Beaujolais, Jean-Michel Dupré has since branched out by sourcing fruit from several vineyards and in the process earned himself a reputation as one of Beaujolais' artisan winemakers.

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Even better and a spectacular Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 2010 Domaine des Sénéchaux Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a similar blend of 56% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre, and 2% assorted varieties. Aged 55% in foudre, 35% in barrels, and 15% in tank, it exhibits a classical profile of sweet kirsch, spice-box, dusty minerality, and hints of leather and pepper to go with a full-bodied, seamless, and mouth filling texture. (10/2019) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of ripe dark-skinned berry, violet, underbrush and warm spice emerge in the glass, along with a whiff of camphor. 100 points James Suckling: "Seductive. The nose draws you in deep: It’s like staring into a well of pristine dark cherries, dark plums, blackberries and mulberries. All the oak is perfectly subsumed. The palate’s flawless with immense depth and power and it’s so balanced as to appear to float. Immaculate fresh dark-berry and plum flavors. Silky and deep, ribbon-like finish. Perfect. Jancis Robinson: "90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Lugasson, property of the Bellanger family. 30-year-old vines yielding 50 hl/ha. Two-thirds aged in barrel for 12 months. Clean and direct. With fairly pronounced tannins still. I'm not sure I agree with the Bellangers that this has 12 years' ageing potential but it's certainly a very good effort for the price. 16/20 points (JR)" (11/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Still young and full of bright fruit, this is a juicy wine with acidity and red-fruit flavors. 2018 Lacaussade Saint-Martin Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
Top Pick!
This is a delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from organic producer Château Lacaussade Saint-Martin. This Right Bank Bordeaux far outperforms its modest price point. The wine is at once powerful, dense, and harmonious. It displays huckleberry and sweet baking spices on the nose with a classic tannin structure and full weight on the palate. It will doubtless age gracefully, so if you enjoy it now (with a good decant!) you may want to stash a few bottles away to age for another five to ten years. Winemaker Jacques Chardat recommends pairing th...

98 points James Suckling: "A complex red with rose petals, violets, crushed stones and cherries follows through to a full body and chewy tannins that are poised and polished. Extremely long and intense. A top wine for the vintage. " (04/2018) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This is opulent and powerful, offering black cherry, black currant, plum, leather, iron and tobacco flavors boosted by the racy acidity. Overall, this feels firm and complex, with a long finish. Not your typical style from the northern part of the Brunello di Montalcino zone, yet compell...

James Suckling: "A straightforward, fruity red with berry, cherry and chocolate character. Medium body, round tannins and a medium finish. " (07/2020) K&L Notes: Owned by the Tagliabue family since 1979, the wine growing on the estate dates back to the 17th century. Known for their Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, the name "Salvi" refers to the supposed health-giving effects of this terroir. Villa Poggio Salvi's modern winery is partly subterranean and set within the contours of the hillsides.

93-94 points James Suckling: "This is so typical of Cabernet. Wow. Full body, round and velvety tannins and lots of earthy, spicy and berry character. Juicy and long. Gorgeous. 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest is Merlot. Not really a second wine of Mouton. Excellent. " (03/2015) 91-94 points Wine Spectator: " *Barrel Tasting* This has a lightly dusty frame, but is plump overall, with delightful plum, raspberry and red currant fruit at the core. Singed alder and vanilla notes are subtle and nicely integrated, with a very elegant feel through the fini...

96 points James Suckling: "Wow. This is real Cannubi, offering sliced ripe strawberries and dried flowers, such as roses, as well as crushed raspberries. It’s full-bodied, yet very tight and reserved. Stealth is a word that comes to mind. Love it. Best in a long time. " (05/2020) 94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Barolo Cannubi is ample and generous, with terrific textural resonance and breadth. Ripe dark cherry, plum, spice, licorice, new leather and menthol all flesh out in a supple, racy Barolo loaded with class and personality. The 2016 is rich, sensual ...

1998 Haut-Franquet, Moulis
Top Pick!
This Haut-Franquet was discovered by our buyers on a 2017 Bordeaux trip and it has finally arrived. A neighbor of Poujeaux, our buyers were fortunate to get their hands on a limited quantity. While some 1998 Left Bank wines are a bit coarse and tough this—like the Poujeaux—is elegant and fruit driven. Perfect hamburger wine.

2014 La Rioja Alta "Viña Arana" Gran Reserva Rioja
Top Pick!
96 points Decanter: "Arana commemorates one of La Rioja Alta's historic families. The Tempranillo (95%) and Graciano (5%) are aged separately in American oak barrels for three years before blending, then for three years in bottle (two years less than the 904, and six years less than the 890). The winery's keynote to this Rioja is 'freshness'. I agree. (SJE)" (08/2020) 96 points James Suckling: "Lots of mushroom and walnut aromas with plum and leather, too. 2018 Philippe Leclerc Bourgogne Rouge "Les Bons Bâtons"
Top Pick!
Philippe grew up in the vineyards and learned to tend vines from his father. He produced his first vintage in 1979 and has since garnered a loyal following. The fruit for this wine comes from Les Bons Bâtons, a small vineyard located across the main road from Chambolle-Musigny. The vineyard is one of the few Bourgogne-level designations allowed to carry the vineyard name, and the quality is closer to that of a 1er Cru than village level. This bottle will also benefit from some breathing time. The nose is quiet at first but after an hour, wild strawberrie...

This Gran Reserva is from some of their oldest Tempranillo and Graciano vines, planted in 1931 and 1946. It is elegant, generous, and a precociously delicious treat for now, or over the next 15 years. Miguel Merino makes, as he likes to put it, an "updated classic" style of Rioja, all from his own 2 hectares of vines and several hectares of vineyards owned by a close friend. All the fruit is from sloped vineyards (Miguel is a fan of his slopes) within the cooler climate Rioja Alta town of Briones, which makes his wine a terrific showcase of the terroir (...

Ettore Spina and his wife, Enrica Bandirola, owners of Sesta di Sopra, planted a new vineyard to Sangiovese in 2005. It has the same Galestro soils as the others, perfect for taming Sangiovese's natural vigor. Unfortunately, in Montalcino all of the Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino vineyards are all registered and controlled, and they aren't allowing any more to be added right now, so the wine that comes from this new vineyard has to be designated an IGT (Indicates Geographic Tipicity).
