2019 Bourdieu, Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
Top Pick!
97 points Decanter: "Flamboyant and deep, with ample, lush and fresh forest fruits, bramble and cassis, with cascading sweet spice swiftly following. A super, brooding wine which will shine brighter with time. (DWWA)" (04/2020)
Price: $14.99

90 points James Suckling: "Blackberries, sandalwood and dried-dark-mushroom aromas follow through to a medium to full body, round and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Needs a year or two to soften." (02/2018) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "With a claim as the highest vineyard in Bordeaux (not that that means much), this estate has produced a powerful, rich wine that just avoids overripeness and moves into a more elegant style. Plenty of tannins still go with the dark-chocolate flavors and the black fruits. (RV)" (05/2019)

2016 Puygueraud, Francs-Côtes de Bordeaux
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "This is so good! I want to drink it now. Iodine, mushrooms, dark fruit and orange peel on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, yet polished and fresh. Lovely tension. A blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec." (02/2019) 90 points Wine Spectator: "This has a good juicy core of red currant and damson plum fruit flecked with mouthwatering savory and tobacco notes through the finish. (JM)" (03/2019) Jancis Robinson: "Nicolas Thienpont. Rich nose and real active freshness. Lots to like. So compact and well balanced. ...

93 points James Suckling: "Fragrant and spicy, ripe and juicy with a ton of crushed berry character. The generous, supple tannins nicely support the full body and long, silky finish." (02/2019) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 La Fleur de Boüard is blended of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and is a little youthfully reticent to begin, giving way to provocative crushed rocks, tilled soil, mossy bark and cigar box scents over a core of blueberry compote, black raspbe...

2010 de Belcier, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "Chocolate, licorice and plums. Some mint and candied violets. Intensely juicy and full-bodied on the palate with pure dark fruit and lots of new wood. Big and structured with firm, yet ripe tannins that still need some time to soften." (02/2013) Wine Enthusiast: "A tough proposition at this young stage, but one which will definitely mature well, if slowly. There's power from tannins and fruit, both promising aging. Dark and dense, this hints at the juicy black fruits to come. (RV)" (05/2013)

2016 Fombrauge, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
93-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a perfumed wine, likely thanks to a dollop (7%) of Cabernet Franc. It has ripe fruit characters, pleasant richness and a firm structure. (RV)" (04/2017) 94 points James Suckling: "There’s a very rich and powerful core of red-plum and mulberry aromas and flavors here, delivering an assertive and very shimmery, polished palate. Great tannin texture. Long and regal. Every bit as good as the 2015, but more lively in 2016. " (02/2019) 94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Fombrauge has come together beautifully during its agin...

Thank the emerging region of Cotes de Castillon for this spectacular deal in red Bordeaux. This cuvée shares many qualities of top-flight Saint-Émilion, with a great sweetness of fruit along with vanilla and spicy notes from new oak. Everyone who loves wine knows it's hard to find a steal in Bordeaux these days, but this wine offers a lot of wine for the money.
Price: $13.99

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 70% Merlot and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine has an opaque purple color and a sweet nose of vanillin, roasted coffee beans, chocolate and kirsch liqueur intermixed with blacker fruits such as cassis. It is rich, full-bodied, moderately tannic, but low in acidity and quite heady and powerful (15% natural alcohol). This impressive wine is a big, back-strapping effort to drink over the next 15+ years. Produced by Sylvie Pourquet, the sister of Gerard and Dominique Be...

2015 La Fleur de Boüard, Lalande-de-Pomerol
Top Pick!
93 points Decanter: "This is excellent quality and among the best of the line-up. There is an impressive balance of flavours combining brambly fruits with gentle smoked almonds and charred cedar black spice, and the alcohol is generous but not intrusive. Always a leading name in Lalande-de-Pomerol, doing an excellent job in 2015. (JA)" (08/2019) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 La Fleur De Bouard is an awesome wine to seek out. Mostly Merlot, it offers a terrific bouquet of cassis and black cherries intermixed with lots of tobacco leaf and lead pencil ...

2017 Tour St-Christophe, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "This estate made a stunning 2017, and I continue to love this wine. A typical blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe has remarkable purity in its black raspberry and blueberry fruits as well as complex spice, candied violet, spring flower, and cedary herb aromas and flavors. Possessing medium to full-bodied richness, incredible tannins, and flawless balance, it’s already accessible, as are most 2017s, yet is going to shine for 20 years or more." (06/2020) 93 points James Suckling: "A s...

2009 Coufran, Haut-Médoc
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "The quality of the fruit and tannins are very pretty here. It’s full-bodied, with round velvety texture and a delicious finish. Very impressive." (07/2014) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm tannins, but also ripe, sweet fruits, with a fine balance. While the wine is on the light, fresh side, it does have a good, final structure. (RV)" (04/2010) K&L Notes: At the very top of the Haut-Médoc, embedded in a sea of gravel just next to the Gironde River north of St-Estèphe, sits the anomaly of the Left Bank: Château Coufran, th...

1998 Beauchene, Pomerol
Top Pick!
First planted in the 14th century, this vineyard is now 10 hectares and is owned by Charles Leymarie & Sons, in the wine business since 1878. The blend here is 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc, and it's aged in new oak on the recommendations of then-consultant Michel Rolland. The 1998 received 2 stars out of 3 from the respected French wine guide Guide Hachette des Vins.

Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is rich with juicy blackberry flavors. It has a dense texture behind the peppery alcoholic exterior, while a hard edge of extraction gives a licorice flavor. (RV)" (03/2021)
Price: $11.99

We sold out of the 1995 in a matter of one e-mail. Now we have the more powerful 1996, with the same old-fashioned label.
Price: $29.99

92 points James Suckling: "Very opulent and rich with loads of fruit and spice. Walnut and chocolate. Full and chewy. Exciting. " (03/2016) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A major sleeper of the vintage, this over-achieving St.-Emilion seems to come up big in many of the top vintages and needs more recognition from consumers. Loads of black currants, toasty oak and forest floor notes comprise this large-scaled, substantial wine. With its intense fruit, copius glycerin, and long, complete finish, this wine is successful now but should be bette...

2015 Barde-Haut, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "An awesome Saint Emilion, the 2015 Château Barde-Haut showed even better on this occasion than on release. A huge nose of sweet crème de cassis, jammy blackberries, violets, leather, and dried herbs gives way to a full-bodied wine that has a great mid-palate, ripe, silky tannins, not a hard edge to be found, and a great, great finish." (03/2020) 95 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, wet earth and black tea. Full-bodied, dense and layered with medium, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "A warm wine rich in tannins and with succulent berry fruits, this is both powerful and elegant. Its density doesn’t detract from the fruitiness that shines out of the wine and balances with the structured aging potential. *Editors’ Choice* (RV)" (05/2019) 96 points Decanter: "This was delicious En Primeur and is even better now with three years under its belt. It's had time to bed down and is fully set for the long term. Wonderfully rich, intense dark fruits are joined by grip and supple tannins through the palate. It has hi...

2010 L'Arrosée, St-Emilion
Top Pick!
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A supple, lighter style of wine in 2010, the 2010 L'Arrosée is stylish and medium to full-bodied, with seductive notes of black cherries, cranberries and mulberries. Some oak is present, but this is a mid-weight, savory, broad and disarming wine to drink over the next 10-15 years. (RP)" (02/2013) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A very toasty but integrated style, with warm espresso and mocha leading the way for a really supple palate of black currant, plum sauce and cassis flavors. The toast holds a slight lead on t...

2016 Vieux Chateau Palon, Montagne-St-Emilion
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "Plenty of charred oak, but this muscular Montagne-St.-Emilion also has a ton of crushed berries that provide succulent balance. The long finish is harmonious enough to drink well already. 75 per cent merlot and 25 per cent cabernet franc." (01/2019)
Price: $26.99

95 points John Gilman: "The 1985 Cheval Blanc is a beautiful bottle of young wine that still needs several years of cellaring to fully reach its apogee and start to show all of its multi-layered complexity. The bouquet is deep and clearly destined for profundity, but still a tad primary in its mélange of dark berries, menthol, tobacco leaf, gravelly soil tones, smoke and a touch of new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still quite tight, with a great core of pure fruit, impeccable focus and balance, ripe tannins and great length and g...

Full-bodied, very rich and flavorful with minerals, white pepper and salt and hints of black tea. Intense finish with a bitter undertone for now. Needs a couple of years to come completely together." (04/2018) 91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A foursquare wine, this boasts dry, firm tannins that lets the concentrated black-currant flavors slip through. It is solid and will develop well. (RV)" (04/2016) 91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Saint-Emilion is arguab...

The Château Darius St-Emilion is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. The wine is made in a modern fashion with beautifully pure fruit and structure that makes it openly accessible and enjoyable immediately. 2016 Gros Caillou, St-Émilion
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "Interesting aromas of spearmint and cedar to the dark-berry character, following through to a medium body, with polished and tight, velvety tannins and a lightly bitter finish. Should soften with age. " (04/2019) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Gros Caillou is a blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from vines located on a particular plot of more gravelly soils in Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens. I actually mentioned this on social media when I tasted it and, apparently within an hour...

91 points James Suckling: "A chewy and fresh wine with spice, nut and currant character. Full-bodied and muscular. Needs time to soften." (02/2015) 91 points Vinous: "The 2012 Meyney is a deep, structured wine with a lot going on in the glass. The expressive bouquet alone is enticing, but all the elements simply come together effortlessly. The pliant fruit suggests the 2012 can be enjoyed young - and it can - but there is also more than enough depth to allow the wine to age gracefully for years. This is an impressive Saint-Estephe, especially for the y...

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Merlot-dominated 2016 By Clinet (there's 5% Cabernet Franc) is a charming, already delicious effort that gives up elegant notes of chocolate-laced plums and dark fruits, notes of leafy herbs and truffle, medium to full body, and a layered, charming mouthfeel." (02/2019)
Price: $12.99

90 points James Suckling: "Grilled-plum, black-olive, dark-chocolate and dried-oyster aromas here. Some mushroom, too. It’s medium-bodied and juicy. Turns a little lean, but still outstanding. " (01/2021) 88-90 points Vinous: "The 2018 Merlot from Hubert de Boüard is plump, juicy and full of near to medium-term appeal. Succulent red cherry, sweet spice and new leather are front and center. Drink it over the next few years. (AG)" (04/2019) Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Merlot offers plenty of true Merlot limestone character with its red and black fruits, spi...

2018 Busquet, Lussac-Saint-Émilion
Top Pick!
Another of the fine wines of Dominique Robin. Grapes are harvested at full maturity and aged in casks to round out the wine’s generous profile, while it retains a mineral-driven finish. Superb buy. Plenty of blackberries on the palate. (Clyde Beffa Jr., K&L)

Wine Spectator: "A delicate wine with very pretty plum and milk chocolate character. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a fresh, fruity finish. (JS, Web-2000)" K&L Notes: The formation of Chateau La Pointe dates all the way back to the middle of the 19th century. The estate found the inspiration for its name due to the unusual, triangular shape of their Pomerol vineyards. Chateau La Pointe is the third largest property in the Pomerol area with 23 hectares and takes up more than 2% of the entire Pomerol appellation. Things change at Chateau La Pointe a...

It is hefty stuff by any and all sta...

(JM, Web-2011)" 91-92 points James Suckling: "Fascinating wine with dark fruit and citrus undertones. Full and refined. Lovely finish." (04/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the finest Tertre Daugays I have tasted (although the 2009 is also attractive), this sleeper of the vintage exhibits a dense purple color as well as copious aromas of sweet kirsch, black ...

Here is a fine find from the Right Bank. Founded in 1704, this 14-hectare estate run by the Bardet family is located on gravelly/clay soils that impart depth and complexity to the wine. 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. We just discovered this property in 2019, and we have already sold quite a bit of their 1995 and 1996. Super old-school label for an “old school” property. This wine has lots of red berry aromas and flavors. It really opens up with some decanting.
Price: $49.99

Vinous: "The 2016 Merlot (Napa Valley) is a very pretty, gracious wine from Keenan. Medium in body and nicely lifted, the 2016 will drink well right out of the gate. Attractive floral and spiced notes add to the wine's gracious, lilting personality. (AG)" (12/2018) K&L Notes: Winery notes: Keenan’s estate is set on the site of a defunct turn of the century winery and vineyard stopped short by prohibition. In 1974, Robert Keenan rebuilt the decrepit winery and planted the mountainside vineyard. Keenan has been producing wine since 1977, and is known for...

2016 Cap de Faugeres, Côtes de Castillon
Top Pick!
91 points Decanter: "An estate that has gone long on extraction in the past, but I'm really enjoying what they have done this year. This is big but very pretty, held back under tension, showing juicy black cherry and touches of chocolate. The soft, chalky tannins are very well placed; you can almost brush through them. This wine impressed me over several tastings. (JA)" (04/2017) 90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A wine that always seems to deliver, the 2016 Château Cap de Faugères is another winner. Based on 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvig...

94 points James Suckling: "A dense and layered red that is tight and focused with blackberries, currants and blueberries. Pure. Full body, superfine tannins and a long finish. Sophisticated. Best ever." (02/2018) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Puygueraud was picked between September 28 and October 13, and is a blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. It was a little reduced on the nose at first, though it cleared to reveal stony blackberry fruit, quite 'airy' and lifted. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin...

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "($75; includes bits of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc) Good medium ruby. Aromas of plum, dark raspberry and chocolate; slightly liqueur-like. Then fat, full and sweet in the mouth, with concentrated dark fruit and licorice flavors. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and excellent length. This, too, needs time. This vintage is still from old vines, but Beringer is in the process of replanting this vineyard. " (06/2006) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "However, for starters there...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Bold black fruits dominate this generous wine. Its dry, firm tannins are content to play a secondary role in a wine that is packed with dark fruits and general richness. (RV)" (04/2019) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Fresh and focused, with a delightful mix of dark plum, red currant and blackberry compote flavors, enlivened by licorice snap, bramble and tobacco notes. A flash of violet on the finish adds lift. (JM)" (03/2019) 90 points Vinous: "The 2016 Larrivaux is fabulous. Pliant and expressive, with lovely aromatic top not...

Then the fresh, vibrant and energetic palate boasts layers of bright red fruits which meld with velvety tannins, chocolate and sagebrush tones. This outstanding Merlot (85% in this vintage) is drinking beautifully now but will cellar well for decades to come. (VB)" (05/2020) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A taut and sanguine red, with roasted cherry and macerated plum flavors that feature plenty of slate notes. Succulent black cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and spice all flesh out effortlessly, with bright acids that keep the flavors lively. The restrained style is so appealing. (AG)" (02/2021) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Merlot excelled in 2018, and Pride's 2018 Merlot offers a beautiful, medium to full-bodied, plump, rounded style that's a joy to drink. 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Rocking amounts of red and black currants, chalky minerality, violets, camphor, new leather, and violets emerge from the 2018 Château Moulin Du Cadet, a rich, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, beautifully balanced Saint-Emilion. With ripe tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish, this is another remarkable wine from the Lefévère family that's well worth snatching up. The wine is 100% Merlot brought up in 80% new French oak. It's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and will keep for 15+." (03/2021) 93 ...

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Deeply colored, the 2017 Chateau Puygueraud checks in as a blend of 63% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Malbec that spent 12-16 months in barrel. It's a winner, with lots of fruit and richness as well as classic notes of dark fruits, leafy herbs, damp earth, and spring flowers. I'd be happy to drink this rounded, textured, medium-bodied effort any time over the coming 7-8 years. You'd be forgiven for claiming Pomerol in a blind tasting." 95 points James Suckling: "Extremely aromatic and lifted on the nose with wild fruit and flowers, as well as chalk and mushroom undertones. Full body and ultra-fine tannins with beautiful grace and balance. Shows structure yet refinement at the same time. Needs four to five years to come completely together, but already so beautiful." (02/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Beau-Sejour Becot (80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) is just a little closed to begin, opening out...

This is the second wine from Château d'Aiguilhe, in the far east of Bordeaux. Proprietor and winemaker Stephan von Neipperg is also responsible for the greatness that lies in each bottle of Château Canon-La-Gaffelière, Clos l'Oratoire, Château Peyreau and La Mondotte. The cepage is overwhelmingly Merlot, with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. The property dates back to the 12th century and is linked to the Knights Templar. The current château, a "fortified farmhouse," was built in the 13th century. The Right Bank terroir, with its clay-limestone soil...
