Sidonia de Sousa is a member of a group of Portuguese wineries that celebrate the baga grape and have come to be known as the "Baga Friends." This wine is 100% Baga and, according to the winery, "applying the Dujac-style in its fermentation (whole cluster pressed), the often fierce Baga grape lends way to a wonderful sweet middle fruit, smooth, earthy and ripe with a superb future."

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The eponymous red blend 2015 Ferrer-Bobet looks for elegance and freshness as a way to express the character of the terroir. It's a blend of 55% Cariñena, 25% Garnacha, 15% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon matured in French barriques for 12 months. The nose has tons of aromatic herbs, thyme and rosemary and even mint, coming through as aromatic and balsamic. It has a little more body than the 2016, but it's equally balanced, in a more powerful vintage. I like it as much as the 2016, even a tad more. 23,727 bottles...

A blend of the traditional Valpolicella varieties sourced from three of the estate's vineyard sites, this is a gorgeous expression of Amarone for a stupendous price. From the winery: "Made from a selection of the best native grapes, which are processed following the 'appassimento' method for three months, in line with an age-old tradition in Valpolicella. It is garnet-red in colour, with a full, dry, velvety taste, and intense aromas of cherries macerated in alcohol, wild berries and spices. Uncork a few hours before drinking and serve at 18-20°C."

Pasetti's vineyards lie in the heart of Italy's Abruzzo, between the Tirino and Pescara valleys at the foot of Gran Sasso and Maiella. The location's favorable climate, varied terrain and clay chalk and skeleton-rich rocky subsoils result in some of the best wines coming out of Italy today. Made by husband-and-wife team Franco and Mimma from vineyards at 550 meters above sea level, their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is aromatic, balanced, and elegant. The perfect weeknight red.

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a new venture for this producer, who is based in Vinho Verde. A blend of the classic Dão grapes, the wine is rich, packed with black fruits and densely structured. It does also have a more stylish side, showing restraint in the tannins and celebrating a fine balance. (RV)" (12/2019)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Riserva Don Antonio delivers an explosive bouquet that is comprised of equal parts dark fruit, spice and savory tobacco. This wine sees 20 days of fermentation on the skins and finishes up with malolactic fermentation in steel vats. It then ages in French barrique for 12 months. It's a standard winemaking approach for an exceptional expression of Sicily's most important red grape. This is a medium to full-bodied red with ample texture and roundness on the finish. Do you feel that 15%...

2015 Roccolo Grassi Amarone della Valpolicella
Top Pick!
96 points Vinous: "The 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella is dark, rich and deeply alluring but with an energy that keeps you coming back to the glass. The bouquet draws you in with a mix of cherry and plum sauce, notes of sage, tobacco and hints of woodsmoke. It’s velvety-smooth, energized by vibrant acids with sweet red fruits and spices, yet it never crosses the line of becoming cloying or tiring. The balance here is remarkable, as the 2015 comes across as delicious and spry in spite of its girth and intensity. There’s a subtle coating of fine tannin and...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is the higher-tier expression of Aglianico from this fabulous producer who is still under the radar outside of Campania. The Stefania Barbot 2015 Taurasi Fren is an expressive and beautiful vintage with enough inner tension and energy to ensure a long and happy drinking window of ten years or more. These offerings from Stefania Barbot are drop-dead gorgeous. That said, this wine is a bit more closed right now, but it will give a lot in the future with more bottle evolution. The Fren is made with fruit from 7...

Dominio do Bibei is a project based in the Bibei valley in D.O. Ribeira Sacra, near the village of Manzaneda in northwest Spain. The vines are located on terraced clay and slate vineyards, biodynamically farmed, and the wine vinified in concrete eggs and variously sized, used oak barrels and foudres. Since the primary grape, Mencia (tiny quantities of Mouraton and Garnacha Tintorera are blended in), tends naturally towards reduction, this style of winemaking seems to make perfect sense to create balanced, elegant wines. Organically cultivated fruit on ...

2015 Buty "Rediviva of the Stones" Walla Walla Valley Red Blend (Previously $60) (Previously $60)
New!
93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 78% Syrah, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Mourvèdre, the 2015 exhibits notes of crushed cassis, tapenade and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's medium bodied, rich and supple, with a deliciously savory core of dark fruit, meltingly velvety tannins and a long, sapid finish. Syrah really dominates this open-knit but classy blend. (WK)" (06/2018) 92 points Vinous: "Bright ruby-red. Blueberry, blackberry, black tea, black pepper and spices on the nose, complicated by smoke and game nuances. Juicy, tightl...

James Suckling: "This is a pretty Montefalco Sagrantino at first, with far more freshness than you would usually expect from this category. It’s steeped in dried spices, citrus, tar and red licorice. " (08/2019)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Axia Syrah-Xinomavro is the typical and equal blend of Syrah and Xinomavro, aged for 12 months in an equal mixture of new and second use French oak. It comes in at 13.36% alcohol. Silky in texture, this is very crisp this year, showing off its Amyndeon acidity. It is a classic food wine. This is not overly concentrated, but it is pretty intense and filled with flavor, the Syrah controlling the conversation just now. The fruit shines through, lifted and nicely defined. It finishes a little tart, but the t...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Dominio Do Bibei blew my mind. It's is a blend of 80% Brancellao and 20% Mouratón from different vineyards, and it has a super elegant, aromatic and ethereal profile within the power and earthy character of the wines from the zone. This fermented and aged in barrels and had an extra élevage in 1,500-liter oak foudre, but the oak is perfectly and neatly folded into the wine, which is nuanced perfumed and really captivating. The palate also reveals great harmony and balance, good freshness and very fine ta...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Cedro do Noval, a Duriense appellation because of the 30% Syrah, also has 30% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 10% Tinta Roriz and 5% Tinto Cão. It was aged for 18 months in French oak of varying ages (only 25% new). Another gorgeous Cedro, often one of the nice value points in Noval's lineup, this is silky and flavorful, with mid-palate finesse and a very fresh conclusion. It is a lovely 2015, a little understated, but it is filled with fruit flavor, while always retaining its freshness. This is is...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2015 Alvaro Castro (Quinta da Pellada) Dão Tinto Portugal (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Tinto (Quinta da Pellada), the estate flagship, is a field blend (over 40 grapes) from old vines. It is principally, for identified grapes, mainly Alvarelhão, Tinta Pinheira, Touriga Nacional, Jaen and Tinta Amarela. Plus, since 1991, Castro uses some Jaen and Touriga Nacional. It was aged for 24 months in well-used French barriques (five to seven years old) and comes in at 13.3% alcohol. This was sourced from Pellada's Block 4 of Mata (forest) and Block 2 of Casa (house). Castro says Casa 'has a more compact soil with some clay besides the granite, the intense presence of rose/white quartz and the one that has more sun hours per day. Mata has less clay and more granitic sand.' (MS)" (08/2018)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2015 Arnaldo-Caprai "Valdimaggio" Sagrantino di Montefalco (94RP, 93W&S, 93WS, 92JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Black fruit, spice, tar and cured tobacco open the bouquet of the 2015 Montefalco Sagrantino Valdimaggio. You also get slightly more mature aromas of rum cake or cherry liqueur from this warm and sunny vintage. This is a complete and generous wine that shows tight tannins at the back. Despite that evident muscle and brawn, the tannins are carefully managed so that they don't taste bitter or astringent. In fact, quite the opposite. Marco Caprai now works with French consultant Michel Rolland, and both men have together endeavored not only to study and better understand the tricky Sagrantino grape but also create a blueprint for better working the highly tannic variety. These efforts started in 2015, and today, many of the lessons learned over the past four years have been incorporated into winemaking. (ML)" (10/2019)
