99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 93% Merlot / 7% Cabernet Franc blend (92% from the Alexander Mountain Estate, 6% from Bennett Valley and 2% from Knight’s Valley) is a 'kissing cousin' of the 2001, only softer and more flamboyant. Classically Californian in its exuberant, flamboyant, super-rich, unctuously textured style, the tannins are softer than in the 2001, but the wine unquestionably has the potential to last for another quarter of a century. It exhibits an opaque plum/purple color along with abundant notes of cassis, licorice, graphi...

94 points Decanter: "Attractively aromatic, this has ripe dark fruit scents with a touch of smokiness. The sumptuous mouthfeel is energised by exemplary Cabernet Franc freshness, while the liquorice-infused finish is long, elevated by an ethereal airiness. (YC)" (07/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Le Desir, an attractive blend of 53% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Malbec, is round, fruity, soft, fleshy, medium to full-bodied and seemingly fully mature. Enjoy it over the next decade. (RP)" (06/2012) ...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A spectacular blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec, over two-thirds of the fruit from the Alexander Valley Mountain Estate and the balance from Knight’s Valley and Bennett Valley, the 2002 La Joie exhibits a sweet, opulent bouquet of charcoal, burning embers, forest floor, blackberries and kirsch. Deep, full-bodied, supple-textured, flamboyant and extroverted, with undeniable purity as well as finesse, it should drink well for another 20-25 years. Interestingly, the pH is a...

A chance meeting in Hollywood between photographer Tom Kelley and an aspiring but unknown actress led to a two-hour photo session on May 27, 1949 that made history and established Marilyn Monroe as the ultimate sex symbol of the 20th century. The photographs from the historic session became known as the "Red Velvet" series, each one a portrait of Marilyn Monroe posing on a red velvet drape. The first of these was immortalized as the centerfold of the inaugural edition of Playboy in 1953. The remaining portraits are the basis of Velvet Collection labels f...

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright medium ruby. Rich aromas of blackberry and currant liqueur, tobacco and underbrush. Sweet, thick, superconcentrated and gamey; like an essence of raspberry jam with a complicating note of fig. A huge zinfandel from a very warm site. Finishes with thoroughly sweet tannins." (06/2004) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense 2002 Zinfandel Bacigalupi Vineyard (16.1% alcohol) possesses big, peppery black fruits along with mineral, licorice, and herb notes. Drink it over the next 5-6 ...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Delicious from the first sip, this is a bold, ripe, richly flavored wine, with a flash of toasty oak preceding a fleshy core of ripe plum, blackberry and raspberry flavors. Shows fine structure on the finish, with the fruit pushing past the tannins. Drink now through 2010." (06/04) 91 points Robert Parker: "Deep ruby-colored, with great fruit purity and a muscular, earthy, solid style, the 2002 Pinot Noir Moonshine Ranch (named after ... what else ... a moonshine operation popular during Prohibition) requires 1-2 more years of...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Perfumed and silky, this red begins with aromas of violet and black currant, picking up hints of earth and spice on the palate. It's very elegant and lacy, with an attractive, spicy finish. Enjoyable now, but will improve. (BS)" (12/2004) 88-91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red. Ripe aromas of black cherry, chocolate and sweet oak. Concentrated and chewy, with black fruits complicated by mineral notes and chocolatey torrefaction. Finishes with very good length and pronounced oakiness. (ST)" (03...

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Palmer, Margaux (94RP, 91WS, 90VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A successful wine for the vintage, this blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot boasts complex notes of menthol, black currants, plums, licorice, and a hint of cappuccino in its stunning aromatics. Dense, medium to full-bodied, with high levels of tannin in a big, full-bodied style (much in the spirit of such classic Bordeaux vintages as 1966, 1986, and 1996), this wine possesses superb purity and serious length, but should be purchased only by those with considerable patience and a good, cold cellar, since it will need plenty of time. (RP)" (04/2005)
Starting Bid: $330.00

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Vieux-Château-Certan, Pomerol (93RP, 92WS, 91ST). Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100RP, 96CG, 96WS, 93W&S, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 boasts an inky/purple color along with notes of graphite, violets, blackberries, creme de cassis and hints of charcoal and barbecue in addition to a full-bodied, multilayered mouthfeel that builds incrementally with great purity, staggering fruit concentration, and a long, velvety, 50+-second finish. This prodigious effort should continue to drink well for 20+ years. (RP)" (11/2013)
Starting Bid: $540.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Zinfandel ((94-96RP), 95ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Year in and year out, Turley Cellars’ most concentrated, inkiest purple-colored Zinfandel emerges from St. Helena’s Hayne Vineyard. The 2002 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard (475 cases; 16.5% alcohol) boasts superb texture, intensity, and power. Spectacular aromas of black raspberries, blackberries, and currants as well as floral notes are followed by a creamy textured, full-bodied, viscous red with remarkable delineation, acidity, and structure for its massive fruit and glycerin. This outrageous Zinfandel is as good as it gets. (RP)" (12/2003)
Starting Bid: $100.00

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru ((95-98RP), 97WE, 96WS, (92-95BH), 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Black fruits are interspersed with licorice and earth in the nose of the medium to full-bodied 2002 Chambertin Clos de Beze. This concentrated, deep, noble wine is crammed with perfectly ripe fruit and tannin. Loads of blackberries, licorice, plums, black cherries, stones, and flowers can be discerned in its complex flavor profile. Its finish, described in my notes as 'completely unreal,' is exceedingly long, fruit-filled, and suave. If stored in a cold cellar, this wine would be an ideal selection for serving to a 2002 baby on his or her 21st birthday. (PR)" (06/2004)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2002 Ken Wright "Guadalupe" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir (90ST, 90WS). Wine Spectator: "Ripe, supple and generous with its blackberry and cherry flavors, lingering nicely on the gently earthy but open-textured finish. " (05/2004)
Starting Bid: $240.00

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares Grand Cru ((97-99RP), 95ST, (92-94BH)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Armed with huge quantities of fruit and perfectly ripened tannin, the medium to full-bodied 2002 Bonnes Mares explodes from the glass with stunning aromas of candied blueberries, rocks, and red cherries. This massive, broad, enormously rich wine could ultimately, like the Chapelle and Clos de Beze, earn a perfect score. Its velvety waves of sensual red and black fruits are interspersed with nuanced notes of spices, mocha, flowers, and minerals. While enormously powerful and ripe, it magically retains its freshness and sports an ethereal quality that is difficult to put into words. It is a tour de force in winemaking! Anticipated maturity: 2009-2020+. (PR)" (06/2004)
Starting Bid: $285.00

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2002 Ken Wright "Carter Vineyard" Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir (91ST, 90RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red. Intense, sharply delineated aromas of red fruits, clove and licorice. Then rich and powerful but vibrant in the mouth, with an elegant texture and admirable freshness. The powerful dark berry flavors show no overripe notes. Intriguing floral notes come through on the supple, long finish. " (05/2005)
Starting Bid: $100.00

Bid on this magnum of 2002 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (1.5L) (95RP, 94DC, 94JS, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: ". . .a structured wine with considerable density, a ruby/purple color, layers of flavor, and a classic overall personality. The wine exhibits pure black currant, licorice-infused fruit, huge body, a viscous mid-palate, and a long, heady finish. I suspect this wine won’t be nearly as charming as the 2003 in its youth, but it hasn’t yet closed down, and I am amazed at just how rich, intense, and full-bodied it tastes even after bottling. This is certainly one of the half dozen or so candidates for wine of the vintage. (RP)" (04/2005)
Starting Bid: $255.25

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Bond "Vecina" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98RP, 98VN, 95WE, 95WS, 94ST). Vinous: "The 2002 Vecina is a total turn-on. The warm, radiant vintage has softened some of the natural Vecina gravitas. Powerful and ample in all directions, but with great aromatic freshness and vivacity, the 2002 will thrill readers who own it for another 15-20 years. In a word: superb. (AG)" (11/2017)
Starting Bid: $595.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay 1er Cru "Les Caillerets - Ancienne Cuvée Carnot" (91BH, 91WE, (89-90RP), 90ST). Wine Enthusiast: "A wine which has all the lusciousness of Volnay. Beautiful, sweet, ripe fruit and dry, but firm, ripe tannins balance the flavors of currants. (RV)" (09/2004)
Starting Bid: $130.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Turley "Pesenti" Paso Robles Zinfandel ((92-94RP), 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Zinfandel Pesenti Estate, from a 50-year old site planted on pure limestone, tastes like a classic Chateauneuf du Pape made from Grenache. The 16% alcohol is well-concealed in this 700-case cuvee. A deep ruby color is accompanied by sumptuous aromatics of kirsch liqueur kissed with melted licorice, pepper, and spice. There is tremendous precision, surprisingly good acidity (thanks to the limestone soils), and a heady, rich, full-bodied, impressive finish. This is the finest example yet fashioned from the Pesenti Estate. (RP)" (12/2003)
