Domaine Begude is a high quality, organic wine estate set high in the cool climate region of Limoux in the south of France. Fresh and fruit-filled, modern white, rosé, & red wines represent great value for money and are available to buy at the Domaine and around the world. Winery note: "Fruit, fruit and more fruit: cherries and raspberries abound! You must try this with duck. Fabulous lightly chilled with summer lunches."

2018 Domaine de la Réserve d'O "La Réserve d'O" Terrasses du Larzac
Top Pick!
Jancis Robinson: " I am getting glimpses of beautiful fruit, and intriguing notes of baking bread, but it's not giving much away. Stunning raspberry and blackcurrant fruit that has a shimmering intensity. Seems to glow from the inside, like a ruby lit up inside coal. The texture on this wine is beautiful, like a hand-turned clay vessel that has come off the wheel and gone through the first firing, before it has been glazed, silky but rough. So much life in this wine! But needs decanting and another year of cellaring. 17.7/20 points (TC)" (06/2020) K&L ...

2019 Clos de l'Anhel "Les Terrassettes" Corbières
Top Pick!
"My name is Sophie Guiraudon and I am a winemaker since ZERO generation!," says Sophie proudly. Sophie was working in other peoples' wineries in southern France for years. In 2000, Sophie started her own biodynamic, organic winery. She wanted to grow grapes that her son could eat right off of the vines. The Terrassettes is typically a blend of 72% Carignan, 17% Syrah, 8% Grenache Noir, 3% Mourvèdre. While Carignan can sometimes produce a brooding, earthy wine, Sophie handles this varietal flawlessly. The wine is surprisingly delicate, medium bodied and d...

This is the Bordeaux-meets-Rhône blend you never knew you wanted. Jean-Louis Denois is an iconoclast, as independently-minded and attentive to the character of the terroir in which he cultivates his grapes as anyone we’ve encountered. This talented winemaker has an exceptional track record with K&L customers and staff alike. He creates consistently unique wines with brilliantly rendered fruit from a medley of grapes, and the 2017 Les Garrigues named for the uncultivated thyme and rosemary scrub that grows everywhere there-is an expressive blend of Syrah,...

2017 Château Maris "La Touge" Minervois-La Livinière (Elsewhere $22) (Elsewhere $22)
Top Pick!
92 points Decanter: "A 70% Syrah-Grenache blend that offers a lot of wine for the price. Peppery bramble fruits, wild herbs and liquorice adorn the supple palate which has grippy fruit tannins and a lifted violet perfume. Vibrant, with balanced alcohol. (TG)" (06/2020) 92 points Wine & Spirits: "Mainly Syrah, with some Grenache and Carignan, this is earthy, meaty and layered. The tannins have a felt-like texture, lending richness and depth, letting the wine feel inviting even while the structure is firm and well packed. It’s a lot of wine for $20, espe...

We met Marie Chauffray at the Vinifilles tasting in January of 2015 in Montpellier. The Vinifilles (which means "wine girls") is an association of women producers who own and operate their own estates. From growing to winemaking to marketing, they are involved in every aspect of their wineries' successes. I was invited by our friend Francoise Antech-Gazeau (our sparkling wine producer from the Limoux) to visit and taste her wines and meet some of her other grower-producer friends. Chauffray's was one of the most impressive wines we tasted at the event, a...

The Hissez O is the penultimate of production for the domaine. Sourced from the highest-altitude, lowest-yielding parcel, the wine is composed of 60% Syrah, 35% Grenache, and 5% Cinsault. The Hissez O is also aged in large, older demi-muid barrels, adding richness and texture to the wine. As with all things Reserve d'O, the farming is certified both Ecocert Organic and Demeter Biodynamic. (Keith Mabry, K&L French Regional Buyer) *Biodynamic, Natural Wine*
Price: $29.99

From Reserve D'O's highest elevation site at 400 meters planted over limestone-clay soils. This is a blend of 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 10% Cinsault aged 22 months in amphora. Minimal sulfites at bottling. *Biodynamic* *Natural Wine*

Marie and Frederic Chauffray began their career in wine when they took over Fred's parents' wine shop in a suburb outside of Paris. They ran the business successfully for many years, but Marie always wanted to pursue winemaking. After eight years of searching, they found the perfect terroir in a small vineyard in the hills above the city of Montpellier. Since 2005, they have made wine their way by following organic and biodynamic principles and always with the utmost respect for nature. The Bilbo represents their everyday wine. It is composed of 60% Gren...

2019 Clos de l'Anhel "Lolo de l'Anhel" Corbières
Top Pick!
"My name is Sophie Guiraudon and I am a winemaker since ZERO generation!", says Sophie proudly. Sophie was working in other peoples' wineries in southern France for years. In 2000, Sophie started her own bio-dynamic, organic winery. She wanted to grow grapes that her son could eat right off of the vines. The "Lolo de l'Anhel" is typically a blend of 81% of Carignan, 10% of Syrah, 7% of Grenache Noir, and 2% Mourvèdre. The grapes are hand picked, gently vacuum pressed, and finished with 100% tank aging.

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Just about pure perfection, the 2017 Clos des Truffiers showed beautifully last year from barrel and it doesn’t disappoint from bottle. As with the 2018, it’s tight and closed on opening, revealing a massive, brooding style carrying lots of minerality as well as huge blue fruits, iodine, ground pepper, violets, and candied orange blossom. Full-bodied, concentrated, and structured on the palate, with perfect balance in its fruit, acidity, and tannins, it has everything you could want from red wine, yet needs 4-5 years of bottle age...

92 points Decanter: "Concentrated dark fruits on the nose but with such a lovely delicate fragrance to it - so inviting and appealing. This Syrah dominant blend is made by the Cazes family of Lynch-Bages in Bordeaux and it excels in its purity and precision. Spicy liquorice coats the mouth underpinned by soft and sumptuous cherries and blackcurrants while hints of coffee and cooling menthol touch the edges and leave the lasting impression. Juicy and utterly moreish. An excellent wine worth seeking out. (GH)" (07/2020) K&L Notes: For many years Jean-Mic...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Mourvèdre-dominated 2017 l’Ancely is a rockingly good wine, and there aren’t many better Mourvèdre out there. Lots of blueberry and wild strawberry fruits as well as notes of spiced meats, herbes de Provence, and peppery garrigue notes all soar from the glass of this full-bodied red. Offering a layered, seamless texture, good acidity, and enough structure to warrant 2-4 years of bottle age, it’s going to have 15+ years of prime drinking from cold cellars. 96+" (06/2020) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 La C...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from the La Clape region of the Languedoc, which is just outside the village of Narbone, the 2017 Porte du Ciel is a much more plush, sexy wine than the Clos des Truffiers at this point and offers a heavenly, full-bodied, seamless style that’s impossible to resist. Dense purple-hued, with awesome notes of crème de cassis, green tobacco, iodine, espresso roast, ground pepper, and violets, it has a remarkable sense of purity, flawless balance, low acidity (I suspect the pH here is substantially higher than the Clos de Truffie...
