2019 Denman Ranch "Van der Kamp Vineyard" Sonoma Mountain Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $65) (Elsewhere $65)
Top Pick!
What do you get when you take the ex-Cellarmaster of Littorai, plus the Assistant Winemaker from Flowers, plus a free rein and ample funding to make the very best wines you can for a new winery...then a global pandemic comes along? The answer is phenomenal wines, from top quality, iconic vineyards, at ridiculously sharp pricing. These wines came onto my radar as a tip from a good friend on the winemaking team at Rhys Vineyards. Another winemaking friend of his had a parcel of wines from a startup project that had "changed direction" in the face of the Co...

2013 Joseph Swan "Great Oak Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (Elsewhere $40) (Elsewhere $40)
Top Pick!
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is produced in microscopic amounts, the result of sourcing grapes from a notoriously difficult-to-farm site. It rewards in flavor: hearty cherry and pomegranate fruit, a crisp, crunchy texture, powerful tannins and oak, and an underlying minerality that presents as elusively as a cloud of fog." (08/2017)

It's a more ethereal, elegant effort and has gorgeous notes of ripe strawberries, white flowers, spice, and forest floor. Pure, medium-bodied, and layered on the palate, it shines for its seamless, elegant texture as well as its length. It's unquestionably one of my favorites in the lineup." Philippe grew up in the vineyards and learned to tend vines from his father. He produced his first vintage in 1979 and has since garnered a loyal following. His family has owned land in Gevrey-Chambertin for over a hundred years and still makes wine according to the Burgundian traditions. The wine undergoes a cool maceration for about 15 days, followed by 15 days of fermentation. The cap is trodden by foot 3 times per day and aged in 30-50% new French oak barrels. Crushed red berries, mint, flowers and citrus give the 2018 a terrific sense of energy and verve. Gracious, lifted and finely cut, the 2018 is positively stellar. I loved it. 2019 Domaine Jean-Michel Giboulot Savigny-lès-Beaune "Aux Grands Liards"
Top Pick!
Jean-Michel Giboulot took over the family business in 1982 and has put together one of the best bang-for-your-buck portfolios in all of Burgundy over the last 3+ decades. His wines from Burgundy's Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation are known as great values, and both the reds and whites are equally strong. Giboulot's wines straddle the line between traditional and modern, with reds that have crunchier fruit and fine tannins, but plenty of ripeness and purity. Aux Grands Liards is a vineyard nestled right in the heart of the Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation, ju...

With almost eight years of age since the vintage date, this wine is absolutely singing in the glass. The fruit is still lush and full on the palate, but it is tempered by stunning savory notes of mushroom and forest floor. The acidity is still fresh and bright, making this a great food wine. This is a great example of how a fuller bodied Pinot can age gracefully and retain a beautiful balance if made well. Named after the Latin word for "philanthropy," Humanitas gives back to regional charitable institutions from their winery proceeds, with a focus on hu...

Château de la Charrière is one of our most popular direct import producers and a label that easily represents the best bang for your buck we carry in Burgundy. Formerly run by Yves Girardin, the business is now run by his young son Benoit, who definitely has modernized the winemaking a bit since his first vintage in 2011. Whereas the wines were a bit funky and rustic previously, the past few vintages are much cleaner, showcasing the pureness of the Pinot Noir by de-stemming completely so as to remove excess tannic structure.
