According to napawineproject.com "This wine was a Tawny Port styled wine that had been aging in the dark recesses of this particular cave for more than two decades. Robert brought a sample to Prager Portworks (the noted Napa Valley “Port House” in St. Helena) and upon tasting it they quickly said “bottle it now”! Robert did just that – merely 90 cases of 500ml bottles." Also, "This wine is amber color in the glass and initially shows wonderful aromas of hazelnut oil, walnut, orange peel and mocha. This is a wine that aromatically is complex and multi lay...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The medium amber, nutty Napoleon Amontillado is a dry style sherry, also a fine aperitif. " (02/2007) Wine & Spirits: "Subtle in its salinity while generous in its nutty flavors, this approachable Amontillado ends on light caramel flavors. For an aperitif with aged goat cheese." (06/2011) K&L Notes: What a terrific Amontillado! Gently toasted nut and candied citrus aromas lead to a subtle, elegant, nutty palate. While the salty, flor qualities are not cranking on all cylinders here, there is an elegance, sof...

From the winery: "A family estate for five generations, we still have one bottle of 1847 Muscat that demonstrates just how old it is. We started making wine at the beginning of the 19th Century at Domaine des Bernardins. The property was previously owned by Bernardin monks before being transformed into a wine estate. Mr Louis Castaud was the first one to show real concern about how the village's traditional production had almost disappeared and achieved appellation status for Muscat de Beaumes de Venise in 1945 after 10 years of hard work. His family wer...

Wine Spectator: "Great nutty aromas come from the glass and follow into the palate of this sweeter style of white Port. It is rich, packed with almonds and a tangy orange zest edge." (08/2010)

91 points Wine & Spirits: "Light amber-tawny in color, this wine is delicately balanced between freshness and age. There’s brisk, tart peach flavor along with more mature tones of pale berries and woodsy mushrooms. Hints of tobacco smoke add to the wine’s elegance." (12/2015) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Racy and fresh, with detailed green fig, dried cherry, incense and hazelnut notes. Offers a long, focused finish. (JM)" (06/2018) Wine Enthusiast: "This hits the sweet spot between fruit and wood-aging flavors. The red fruit tones have just begun to ra...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The non-vintage Dry Amontillado Los Arcos Solera Reserva reveals a medium amber hue along with a nutty, honeyed, dry personality with great acid...The portfolio of under $25 a bottle selections represents remarkable value for their complex, well-made personalities. Lustau includes a bottling date code as purchasers would want to buy Finos and Manzanillas as young as possible. It is difficult to describe the glories of sherry, but I’ll try. These Solera Reservas are all great reference points at a low price point ...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Intense, with roasted almond, Brazil nut and walnut notes lending this a slightly burly aspect, while gunpowder tea, bitter orange and almond accents add a taut feel through the finish. This is a distinctive, edgy version that Sherry geeks will dig. Drink now. 1,500 cases made" (02/2016) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Faraon Oloroso is aromatic with aromas of hazelnuts, walnuts, and raisins and a broad, dry flavor profile." (02/2007) Wine & Spirits: "An accessible Oloroso, this has briny aromas melding with s...

94 points James Suckling: "Beautiful, traditional, unfiltered LBV with sweet berry, bark, wet-earth and black-cherry aromas that follow through to a medium to full body with round, creamy tannins and a fruity finish. Medium sweet. A gorgeous young port. Drink or hold." (11/2020)

The German Family named Kopke came from Hamburg to Lisbon in 1636. Two years later, in 1638, Christiano Kopke established himself in Oporto, as merchant and exporter of Portuguese products, and he started the export of Portuguese wines already produced in the region, as part of his business. When the Wine - then known as Portwine - was recognized, the House of Kopke which is today the oldest Portwine's export firm, was one of the leaders in the field. Through many generations, the company was run by several members of Kopke's family, obtaining an excelle...

Producer note: "Dark, golden brown with characteristic Madeira bouquet of raisins, toffee and nuts. Sweet with a rich, full bodied, honeyed and complex finish and beautifully balanced acidity. Blandy's 5 year old Malmsey was aged in American oak casks in the traditional 'Canteiro' system. This comprises of the gentle heating of the wine in the lofts of the lodges in Funchal. Over the years the wine is transferred from the top floors to the middle floors and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler. After this gradual 'estufagem' the wine underwe...

92 points Wine & Spirits: "This is a selection from botas of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez raised separately and then blended to age for three years in solera. The result puts the sweetness of the PX in front, with flavors of plum jam and tobacco. The salinity of the Oloroso brings freshness and fine minerality that play softly in the background. " (06/2011) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a ripe, honeyed style of Sherry with deep brown sugar and cinnamon aromas. Its solid palate is under control and not syrupy, tapering into brown sugar and fig flavor...

91 points Wine Spectator: "This is bright for a cream Sherry, with green tea and singed ginger notes out front, providing heft to the date, raisin, caramel and charred bourbon barrel accents. The sleek finish lets the green tea edge reemerge, with well-embedded acidity for length. Drink now. (JM)" (10/2013) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smooth and sweet, like a cream Sherry is supposed to be. On the nose, this one easily shifts from ripe apricot and peach fruit to nuts and saline. The palate starts with a blast of coffee and mocha and then folds in brown...

Cesar Florido, aka "Mr. Moscatel," produces sweet, fortified wines from Moscatel grapes, which thrive in the sandy soil of Chipiona (very proximate to Sanlucar de Barrameda). Though this area is famous for Moscatel, most of it is sold to the larger houses; Florido is one of only two bodegas producing moscatel wines independent of the local co-op. The sugar laden grapes are pressed and then ferment to about 2 degrees, at which point neutral grape spirit is added to fortify the wine up to 15%, leaving a good amount of sugar in the wine. After a year of ...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Potent aromas of rose petals and lychee fruit lead to extremely fruity, exuberant peach, honey and grapefruit flavors in this delicious dessert wine. It has impressive depth and concentration, seductive sweetness and a rich texture that encourages a long, lingering finish. *Editors' Choice* (JG)" (04/2020) K&L Notes: Anderson Valley winegrowers say there's a distinct character to their region's Gewürztraminer — no wonder that for many years the valley has held a beloved little festival that celebrates Alsace-style wines abov...

90 points Decanter: "Launched in 1972, Bin No27 is a Reserve Port aged for about four years before bottling vibrant, dense berry fruit on nose and palate, plummy in style with enveloping richness and a gentle, peppery finish. (RM)" 90 points Wine & Spirits: "A finely blended Port, this has a bristle of tannins up front, melding their chocolate richness with dried fruit flavors, ending clean and sweet. The wine’s lasting spice places it with a savory pumpkin pie." (12/2017) Wine Enthusiast: "This familiar brand exhibits the lush Fonseca style. Tannins ...

The grapes (Malvasia Fina, Códega, Rabigato, Gouveio) are hand harvested and softly crushed after partial destemming. The wine was fermented in stainless steel on the grape skins, allowing for their important flavor compounds to be extracted. This is done under temperature control so that the winemaker can keep an eye on the alcoholic fermentation to ensure that the addition of aguardiente (grape spirit) is added at just the right time. This addition of aguardiente halts the fermentation and is the key to creating Port wines sweetness.

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "In a recent series of entry-level Madeiras, this was a standout, offering excellent complexity and richness at a reasonable price. Nuts, toffee and dried fruit aromas and flavors swirl together, balancing moderate sweetness with harmonious acids. Long on the finish. *Editor's Choice* (JC)" (11/2006) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Lively and rich, with a hazelnut nose and apricot, pear and almond flavors. Long, spice- and mineral-filled finish. Quite fresh-tasting. (KM, Web Only- 2008)" K&L Notes: Sercial is the driest style o...

El Maestro Sierra was founded in 1830 by master cooper José Antonio Sierra, who ran a prosperous barrel-building business called La Merced. Recognized as one of the top coopers in the area, he longed to become involved in the Sherry trade itself. Eventually, he set about building a small winery with the aim of making the best sherries possible. Pilar Pla Pechovierto, the current owner of El Maestro Sierra since 1976, is a brave and resolute woman who managed to drive the business forward despite the prevailing machismo of the time. Haut Charmes is a very special Sauternes bottling, made from the younger vines of one of the most famous properties in the Sauternes region.. While we aren't allowed to actually reveal the source, it's safe to say its location in the Ciron Valley exposes the Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon fruit to conditions perfect for the development of botrytis. Charming, elegant and an exceptional value for what's in the bottle. A rich wine with fine acidity, the 2017 has wonderful pineapple and coconut aromas that carry through onto the lush palate. 91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The NV Black cuvée comes half from estate vineyards (the rest is sourced from the Cima Corgo region in the Douro Valley) and is aged two years in larger oak and stainless-steel vats. At 20 bucks, it’s a terrific, forward, sexy Port offering lots of currants, raisins, candied olives, and dried herb aromas and flavors. It’s worth buying." 93 points Wine & Spirits: "This is the youngest Amontillado from Gonzalez Byass, with four years of aging under flor and another four years in oxidative aging. True to form, it is a delightful wine, graceful and elegant in its fine balance between acidity, minerality and a soft, almost delicate body. It takes on surprising force with air, a sense of limestone in scent and flavor that propels the wine toward something rich, like grilled sea bass." (10/2015) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Lemon peel, singed almond and walnut notes form the core, with a faint...

Sweet and opulent, this is creamy and rich in all its aspects." (10/2015) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "With piercing aromas of raisin pudding, molasses and spice, this rolls out the welcome mat and more. Luscious is probably as tame as you can put it; this is a ribald sweet wine with acidic backbone and hugely intense flavors of ba...

" (12/2011) Wine Spectator: "Lots of sweet dark plum and sweet cherry flavors dominate, with plenty of milk chocolate. Clean and balanced on the straightforward finish." (12/2010) K&L Notes: From the Producer: "Six Grapes is one of Graham's original Port marques.
