Just when you think you've tasted every type of booze known to man, you discover that there are more regionally specific spirits being distilled in places you've never considered. Take Bolivia, where they make a pisco-like spirit called Singani, distilled from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown high in the Andes mountains. Muscat is an aromatic varietal, known for its fruity and floral character, and the Singani spirit takes on many of the perfumes found in the expressive grape. The result is a clean and vibrant brandy that drinks like something in betwee...

Whisky Advocate: "Fresh and delicate on the nose, with stone fruit—especially peaches—white pepper, orange Creamsicle, and spice. A generous oak backbone provides the foundation for plums, nectarines, black pepper, clove, chamomile tea, and piney cedar that sweeps into a dry oak, cocoa, iced-tea finish. Although a bit hot at times, the balance and array of flavors is an outstanding coup for this young distillery. (SSB, Winter-2018)" K&L Notes: Quite frankly, there isn't a project in Kentucky as exciting as New Riff if you're a classic Bourbon fan. Ken L...

Wine Enthusiast: "Although the “Botanist” name might suggest a floral gin, instead the flavor profile veers toward herbs and spices. There’s a subtle, herbal scent, with anise flavors up front, backed by coriander seed and cassia bark on the spicy finish. Made by Bruichladdich Distillery, which is renowned for its Scotch, on a pot still named Ugly Betty. Sold in an attractive, square-shouldered, gift-worthy bottle. 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "There’s a lot going on in this gin, made with a mix of 29 botanicals, including California grapefruit, California bay leaf and a duo of mushrooms. Yet somehow, it all comes together: the opening salvo is spicy and bold with anise, pepper, and clove, before moving to a waxy lemon peel and juniper midpalate and finishing dry and dusty with suggestions of cocoa powder, coriander, and spicy grains of paradise. (KN)" (08/2019) K&L Notes: AMASS Gin is an expression of a particular place, in this case, Los Angeles. 11 of the gins 2...

96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smells of ripe grapes, grape must and lead pencil in the initial whiffs; air contact stimulates baking spices, black currants, jasmine, pepper and paraffin. Entry is crisp, tart and intensely ripe; midpalate highlights black grape to maximum concentration. Finishes bittersweet to sweet. *Best Buy* (PP)" (11/2008) K&L Notes: The Jacopo Poli Sarpa is a perfect grappa for those who like a dry, not overly aromatic style that is very rich and complex. One of Italy's very top producers by any measure.

91 points Vinous: "Solid, good-value 10-year-old from Grande Champagne. Golden in color, offering bright, warm notes of apricot, plum and orange peel, with toasted oak, baking spice and bit of toffee coming on the palate. But the overall effect is light and lean. (JW) " (09/2019) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This Cognac offers a golden hue and mild honey and white flower aromas. The subtle palate opens with a mild smoky note, then gives over to honey, sandalwood, and a nutmeg and ginger exhale. Made with eau-de-vie a minimum of 10 years old. *Best Buy!*...

The world's first farm-to-table Irish Cream. The cream is collected from family-owned farms in County Cork and blended and bottled within 48 hours of collection. And unlike most other cream liqueurs, Five Farms doesn't add any sugar--the sweetness comes naturally from the cream. Awarded 97 points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, this is certainly the world's finest Irish Cream and perfect for the holidays. It also co...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "At first, this whiskey is easy to underestimate, since the amber color and mild toffee aroma give little away. But one sip, and it is clear this whiskey means business: Deep vanilla cookie and cigar tobacco flavors unfold to a big, burnt-caramel finish, which washes over the palate like a rolling wave. Manhattan-worthy. (KM)" (03/2011) K&L Notes: Finally, cask strength Jack. Not sure how long this will last, but at least we've got some serious juice coming out of Lynchburg. 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Look for bold tropical fruit on nose and palate. Each complex sip opens slightly sweet and finishes with citrus zing, mouthwatering salinity and a mineral hint of graphite. Gin Mare is a product we discovered in Scotland, of all places, years ago while searching for single malt. The retailer across the street from our hotel in Edinburgh was featuring the gin in a tasting that evening and we went over to check it out. Distilled in Spain with olives, rosemary, basil, and thyme, it's a savory and truly Mediterranean experience. The herbs never overpower the palate, however, as the balance between them is quite delicate and refined. It's definitely an ideal choice for martinis, paired with olives, of course.

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A honey hue and rich vanilla aroma mark this six-year-old rye whiskey. The palate nods to its 100% rye grain mash bill, opening with brisk cinnamon and allspice sparks that round into mellower vanilla and caramel midpalate, finishing long and spiced. Adding water brings more vanilla to the fore and adds a toasted grain note to the finish. *Top 100 Spirits of 2019* (KN)" (09/2019) Whisky Advocate: "A lively nose with scents of orange peel, wild strawberries, pepper spice, and herbal tea. Whisky Advocate: "Hugely floral and perfumed on the nose, with rose petals, violet candies, and dried orange peel. This is the Gewürztraminer of American single malts—sweet lychee, laced with sachet aromas that explode as if opening Grandma’s dresser drawer. The palate is more tropical; dried pineapple, canned peach syrup, and spice. This could be polarizing, but it’s utterly captivating and worth a try. Rey Campero Espadin uses wild agave Espadin that is fermented in open air with wild yeasts. In true Rey Campero fashion, only the highest quality agave are used in production and the difference between wild agave Espadin instead of the more commonly used farmed Espadin makes a world of difference in this Mezcal. The Rey Campero Espadin is also aged before bottling, which adds complexity and depth. Considering the quality the pricing is absolutely astounding from this legendary distillery in Candelaria Yegole.

This exceptional Mezcal from the far flung Yaupetec sub-region of southwestern Oaxaca has one of the Mezcal world's most endearing stories. The amazing story begins with one man named Daniel Arellano Martinez. He was born and raised in San Bartolo and lived and breathed the Oaxacan Mezcal culture until he moved to New York City as a young man. Before the world had gone crazy for Mezcal, Daniel began working in restaurants as a server. It wasn't until one fateful night when a customer had questions about Mezcal that Danny made his great prowess and knowl...

The guys at West Cork have done it again. The Glengarriff Series offers two incredible new barrel regimines. Rather than peat or smoke their malt, West Cork has decided to char their finishing barrels with unique fuels to offer a different take on their phenomenal whiskey. Wine & Spirits: "A new year can hardly pass without another radiant offering from Lance Winters and Alameda-based St. George Spirits. Bruto Americano is an American aperitivo, bittered largely with gentian root, while California-grown Seville oranges and buckthorn bark provide orange and woodsy notes. The flavor may recall Campari (with a hint of Aperol citrus)—as does the color, a lush vermillion derived from cochineal, as Campari used to be—but the soothing texture and complexity puts it in a category of its own. The plan to build a new distillery in this remote place wasn't an obvious one, but founder Anderson "Burr" Bakewell believed the unique feel of this special island could be captured, quite literally, in a bottle. The rare and elusive spirit of the Isle of Harris, which had historically drawn a special type of soul to it, was dwindling. The population slowly diminished, drawn away by modernity and the promise of prosperity on the mainland. Burr Bakewell gathered a group of like-minded individuals, who believed that the Isle still had much to give its pe...

Monkey 47 needs no introduction at this point. It's our best selling gin and one of the best in the world. This particular package includes a 375 of gin and two handsome ceramic mugs. These types of spirits packages (known as VAPs -Value Added Pack) have the odd distinction of often getting closed out - they take up an excessive amount of space for most retailers, so they often get shunned and eventually discounted. This means we can snag the product cheaper and actually have the 'added value' of the mugs be a fun bonus rather than a burden on space cons...

This is a high quality orange liqueur that was recommended to us by one of San Francisco's finest mixologists. A selection of sweet oranges from Brazil and Florida (Pera) and bitter oranges from The Ivory Coast and Sicily (Bigarade) results in a medley of notes, smooth and sour altogether.
