From one of Clyde's old friends, and from certified organic vineyards in the Redwood Valley AVA of Mendocino County, the Kalinda Sauvignon Blanc is an intense expression of terroir. Grown in the rocky benchlands of Mendocino County with southwest exposure, the Chance Creek vineyard site, originally planted to Palomino grapes used in the production of California sherry, was purchased by Lou Bock in 1979. He soon replanted the vineyard to Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Sangiovese. Today the mature vines produce incredible fruit and Lou enjoys making wines f...

2023 Domaine du Bagnol Cassis Rosé
Top Pick!
This rosé comes from a handful of parcels that total seven hectares of vineyards planted in clay and limestone soils, on a gentle north-northwest-facing slope. Grenache-dominated, with smaller percentages of Mourvedre and Cinsault. Like the Cassis Blanc, the wine is taut, fresh and slightly saline. The winery makes only a small quantity of this, making this extremely hard to find, but its deliciousness makes it highly sought after. Get yours before it's gone.

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine was exciting enough upon opening, but it showed further depth and nuance over three days, ensuring that it's going to be a winner for years to come. Aromas of raspberry, lilac and dark loam lead from the nose into a snappy palate of juicy berry, crushed rock and peppery spices. All of those elements elevate with patience. "

95 points Sam Kim: "Offering stunning fruit purity and intensity, the wine shows green rockmelon, kaffir lime, lemon sorbet and acacia aromas, leading to a brightly expressed palate that's concentrated and persistent. Splendidly structured by beautifully pitched acidity, finishing impressively long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2033." (08/2023) 93 points Bob Campbell: "This wine is a nice combination of the classic punchy fruit Marlborough sauvignon and a richer, weightier and more complex wine that still retains good varietal character. 91 points Wine Advocate: "Soalheiro's Alvarinho is a classical wine that made them famous and was first produced at the property in 1982. The 2023 Alvarinho was varietal, as it tends to be the first five years of its life: aromatic, clean and fresh, with moderate ripeness, 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.26 and 6.2 grams of acidity—parameters of freshness and balance. It's a bit shy, floral and insinuating, feeling a little reductive at first. This comes from vines up to 200 meters above sea level, on richer soils. The full clusters were pressed, the must ferme...

Rebecca Gibb, MW of Vinous writes: "Since the early 1990s, the Australian-based, American-born owner Terry Peabody has made Craggy Range one of the most aspirational wine brands in New Zealand. The classy packaging, polished wines and slick cellar door experience in Hawke's Bay offer savory Syrah and prestige Cabernet/Merlots that might benefit from a less zealous oak regimen. In 2019 the winery introduced Julian Grounds as the new winemaker, who has provided a gentler approach to the reds, creating more terroir-driven, less “made” expressions; this is a...

95 points Bob Campbell: "Detailed, decadent perfume with crystalised ginger, talcum and rose petals. Very pretty but also poised. The palate is silky and dense with lots of power on the flavoursome, long and complex palate with bright sunny fruit which leads to a warming, savoury and perfumed back-palate. Nicely balanced against the sweetness by a quinine/tonic finish which reins in the exuberant fruit. Sophisticated, refined and utterly classic gewüztraminer. Everything is exactly in place and it will also age for a few years. Fantastic stuff. *Recommen...

Composed of whole cluster pressed Sauvignon Blanc that aged in a combination of stainless steel, concrete, clay amphorae, and seasoned French oak barrels. Tasting notes from the producer: "Meyer lemons, guava, juicy yellow pineapple, and Kaffir limes captivate the nose. The soft entry on the palate gives way to bursting flavor and perfectly balanced, crisp acidity. Delicate white stone fruit blossoms and mineral undertones add depth and complexity through the delightfully refreshing and quenching finish..."

Winemaker Philippe Gilbert was a playwright in his early life (one of his productions, a contemplation on the horrors of the Srebrenica massacre in Bosnia, was performed in the U.S.). His winemaking seems to be informed by his life as a writer-narrative and full of tension. This rosé is 100% Pinot Noir from the Clos des Morogues, where the soil is a mix of clay and limestone on a vein of Kimmeridgian that continues on to Sancerre, Pouilly-sur-Loire and into Chablis and Champagne. *Biodynamic*

This Silverado Trail winery has developed a cult following of those who appreciate the finest in Bordeaux-style Napa Valley wines. Antonio Galloni writes about Realm for Vinous: "Over the least few years, the wines seem to have gained in precision, which is clearly a huge positive. One of the recent developments has been longer aging on the lees and fewer rackings, an approach designed to maintain as much freshness as possible." (8/2021). The winery describes this wine as: "a white wine for red wine lovers, Fidelio is the only white wine in Realm’s portf...

This rosé is 100% Listan Negro from volcanic soils of Lanzarote in Spain's Canary Islands, located 100 kilometers off the coast of northern Africa. The landscape here is otherworldly, untouched by phylloxera, and at the mercy of lava ash, barren soil, high winds, low rainfall, and the tempestuous ocean. To provide a better environment for their grapes, Lanzarote farmers stubbornly dug holes in the ashes to plant the vines directly in the nutrient-rich topsoil.
