Vinous: "The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo is a very pretty, accessible wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, mint, orange peel, spice and rose petal are nicely lifted in this mid-weight yet deep Langhe Nebbiolo. The 2022 was done entirely in tank. (AG)" (11/2023)

Eric Guido of Vinous writes: "The Battistelle Soaves have stood out in tastings over the last few years for their combination of expressive floral aromatics, mineral intensity and verve. The family-run winery is situated in the heart of Soave Classico in the small town of Brognoligo di Monforte d’Alpone. All of the vineyards, totaling eleven hectares, are located no more than one kilometer away from the winery and are comprised of many small parcels with drastically different soil types. Garganega is the sole focus at this address, used to create a portf...

One of the more interesting native varietals of grapes that grow in Italy is Timorasso. Unique, complex, capable of aging, and reflective of its terrior, it's definitely something to experience. Walter Massa is the winemaker/farmer who brought the grape back to life in the early 1980s. He remains the leading producer and go-to grower for Timorasso. Timorasso has substance and structure and pairs beautifully with richer dishes like salmon and pork loin.

2022 Casa d'Ambra Ischia Biancolella
Top Pick!
92 points Wine Advocate: "In a tall bottle with a white label, the Casa d'Ambra 2022 Ischia Biancolella has lots of rich orchard fruit and pear with light accents of cinnamon or pine nut. Those spicy notes come directly from the skins, because this blend of 85% Biancolella with smaller parts Forastera and San Lunardo grapes sees stainless steel only. This hot vintage delivers creamy, mid-weight concentration with a finish that is driven by marine layers and salty mineral tones. Fruit is sourced from different sides of the island of Ischia, and 180,000 bo...

2022 Vigneti Massa "Sentieri" Barbera
Top Pick!
Price: $19.99

90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Raised and fermented entirely in stainless steel, the 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo Gavarini is a bright red concentrated hue and delivers expressive aromas of ripe orange peel, delicate clove spice, roses, and fresh raspberries. Medium-bodied, it’s fresh, energetic, and easygoing in nature, with fine tannins, good ripeness, and evenly balanced freshness. Approachable and youthful now, it’s is going to show its best over the next few years. (AF) " (05/2024)

92 points James Suckling: "Attractive aromas of violets, raspberries and strawberries. It’s bright and fruity, with a medium body, powdery tannins and lively acidity. Deliciously pure and transparent dolcetto. " (07/2023) 90 points Kerin O'Keefe: "The 2022 classic Dogliani Dolcetto from Poderi Luigi Einaudi is pretty and easy drinking. Refined in concrete tanks, it has floral and fruity aromas of violet and red berry that segue over to the medium-bodied palate along with hints of white pepper and ground clove. Taut tannins and surprising fresh acidity ...

2022 Cantina Terlano "Terlaner Cuvée" Alto Adige
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "Aromas of cooked apples, lemongrass, tarragon, and limes with hints of kiwi. Medium body. Creamy texture with dried lemons and pear pie. Flinty and slate character, too. Such tension and purity. Aged 20% in large casks and partial malolatic fermentation. A blend of 60% pinot bianco, 30% chardonnay and 10% sauvignon blanc." (10/2023) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine captures the essence of a sunlit mountain with scents of ripe apple, citrus zest, and fresh white flowers. The palate shines with a harmonious fusion of lemon...

92 points James Suckling: "A fragrant, peachy nose with hints of white flowers and almonds. Medium-bodied with a relaxed, fruity palate and some mineral structure. Drink now. Screw cap. " (05/2023) 91 points Vinous: "The 2022 Soave Classico Otto is gorgeous, with a vividly fresh blend of muddled green apples, lime zest and crushed stone. This soothes with its round textures as a salty mineral tension reverberates and perfumed inner florals arch across the palate. The Otto finishes sapid and long, with cheek-puckering salinity and citrus tones that call...

2022 Bruno Giacosa Arneis Roero
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "Energetic and bright with sliced green apples, mangoes and citrus with some honeysuckle. It’s medium- to full-bodied with lovely fruit. Electric acidity. Salty at the end." (06/2023) Jancis Robinson: "Bruno Giacosa was one of the first to make an Arneis in the 1960s and this is their flagship white wine made in its own winery on the Giacosa site in Neive. Roero produces especially perfumed Arneis thanks to the sandy soil. A wine to drink in its first three or four years. Very perfumed and then pretty tight and tense on the fi...

2022 Paolo Caciorgna "Ciauria" Etna Rosso
Top Pick!
Paolo Caciorgna is a Tuscan winemaker working with some fascinating parcels on the slopes of Mount Etna. This Nerello Mascalese from volcanic soils is pure Sicilian delight, with bright cherry fruit and a smoky minerality. It offers exceptional value for the price and is incredibly food friendly - we also love to put just a slight chill on it for enjoying during the summer months.
Price: $29.99

93 points James Suckling: "This has lots of character with lemons, ripe apples, sea shells, and stones on both the nose and palate. Medium body. Crisp and focused with a salty, spicy aftertaste to the fruit. Drink now. " (10/2023) 92 points Vinous: "The 2022 Il Bianco wafts with wild floral perfumes, shavings of ginger and lemon zest. It displays round, nearly oily textures lifted by brisk acidity and salty minerals as crisp orchard fruits cascade across the palate. The 2022 leaves the senses completely refreshed, tapering off clean and medium in lengt...

92 points Vinous: "Sharply focused, the 2022 Verdicchio di Matelica bursts from the glass with a mix of crushed stones, dried flowers, iodine and green apples. The dry warmth of the vintage has imparted this with a sapidity that is seldom seen. Silky textures give way to tart orchard fruits. Mineral notes and a citrus-tinged acidity pepper the palate. Long and remarkably fresh, the 2022 leaves the mouth watering, ending with candied lime hints and a salty flourish. (EG) " (05/2024)

From the Collio DOC on Italy's border with Slovenia, Venica is one of the region's most well-known and respected estates. Jesera actually means "little lake" in Slovenian, named for the vineyard's situation at the bottom of a cool valley which renders a textured and full-bodied Pinot Grigio.

94 points Decanter: "This cru bottling from vines in Randazzo is youthfully creamy, offering little aroma other than that of the wood it has rested in along with stony flecks of mango and peach. Full, concentrated and with great acidity, this is a vital Carricante which has sufficient earthy yellow fruits – think pineapple, nectarine and yellow plum – to flesh out its backbone of stone and acid; a vertical yet full style which will only gain in power and weight as it ages. Impressive. (JB)" (09/2023) 94 points James Suckling: "Plenty of honeysuckle and...

Medium-bodied, tangy and fresh with vivid acidity and a polished mineral backbone to it. Steady and focused with a crunchy finish." (08/2023) 91 points Vinous: "The 2022 Etna Bianco is smoky in the glass, exciting the senses with a burst of crushed rocks and raw almonds before giving way to citrus-stringed peach. It’s soothingly soft and enveloping with weighty textures lifted by vibrant acidity. Masses of mineral-la...

2022 Tenuta San Guido "Guidalberto" Toscana
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "Lots of mint with sage and fresh rosemary to the currant and orange character on the nose, as well as some ripe raspberries. The palate is very refined with creamy and crunchy tannins that run the length of the wine. It shows a crunchy and energetic personality. Give it a year or two to come together, but it’s showing brightness for the vintage." (02/2024) 94 points Wine Advocate: "Made with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the Tenuta San Guido 2022 Guidalberto gives you a good taste of the same DNA that brings us one of Italy'...

Medium-bodied, fresh and citrusy, but quite generous and a little viscous at the same time with some saline undertones to it. Layered and creamy at the end. Drink now. " (09/2023) 92 points Vinous: "Freshly cut grass, spring rain, concrete and zests of lemon, the 2022 Sauvignon Indra invokes summertime childhood nostalgia with its spicy bouquet.
