2017 The Mascot Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Top Pick!
The Mascot is a wine that originated as an experimental blend shared only with friends and family. Crafted by Will Harlan from younger blocks of vines at Harlan, Promontory and BOND, this wine offers a taste of Napa's most elite estates for a fraction of the price you would pay for the flagship wines. Winemaker's Notes: "This Cabernet is a hedonistic blend of power and balance; expressive and approachable early in its life, with potential to evolve well into the future. Ready to drink upon release, it will age for decades given the opportunity. Made from...

2017 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "This is a big upgrade in finesse and clarity to such a popular, premium cabernet from Napa. It shows lots of blackberry, tar, cedar and oak-tree aromas that follow through to a full yet toned palate of fine, integrated tannins and a vivid finish. Owner David Duncan explained that the American oak they use in the wine for aging now comes 100% from their own barrel-making facilities, which tones down the vanilla character in the wine. Really impressive and delicious. It’s a joy to drink now, but can age. Drink or hold." (03/2022)...

2017 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Top Pick!
The Caymus "Special Selection" is the pride of the Wagner family. It's their flagship wine, is composed from the very best barrels of the vintage, and is not produced in years where the quality just doesn't meet Chuck Wagner's standards. The "Special Selection" is approachable both in its youth as well as in its maturity.

2017 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Top Pick!
97 points Vinous: "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is sure to make Dunn fans happy. Powerful and ample, it marries the natural intensity of the year with the savoriness that makes Howell Mountain Cabernets so distinctive. Dark blue/purplish fruit, graphite, spice, leather, dried herbs and lavender imbue the 2017 with striking intensity and character. I can't wait to see how it ages. The 2017 is a positively stunning edition of the Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. (AG)" (01/2021) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Fresh ripe cassis, blackberry an...

2017 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
Top Pick!
98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "In the running for the wine of the vintage, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is an incredible success and offers more depth, opulence, and purity than just about every other wine out there. Revealing a dense purple color as well as a killer nose of blueberries, chocolate-covered cherries, scorched earth, tobacco, violets, and exotic spices, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, pure, incredibly layered mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great, great finish. As with most top 2017s, it stays tight and ...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Wraith jumps with spicy scents of cumin seed, clove oil, cinnamon stick and fenugreek, leading to a core of prunes, blueberry pie and blackcurrant cordial, with touches of iron ore and red roses. The rich, full-bodied palate layers in red fruit nuances with a structure that is wonderfully elegant and ethereal, delivering silken tannins, seamless freshness and a long-lasting firework display for a finish. 98+" (12/2021)
Price: $649.95

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple in color and prances out of the glass with vivacious blackberries, crushed black cherries, warm black currants and red currant jelly scents plus exotic hints of cassia, cardamom, fenugreek and star anise with a waft of underbrush. Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastic energy and beautiful poise, with bags of bright, crunchy black and red fruit plus a firm, fine-grained texture, finishing long...

2017 Tesseron "Pym-Rae" Mount Veeder Bordeaux Blend
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "Rather rich, flamboyant and decadent with bright raspberries, mushrooms and bark. Full-bodied, yet very tight and refined, with firmness and length. Racy and fine for a 2017. " (09/2021) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Pym-Rae leaps from the glass with bold notions of black cherries, mulberries, plum preserves and dark chocolate with an opulent undercurrent of Indian spices, potpourri, sandalwood and cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with rich, seductiv...

93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate shows the racier, more voluptuous side of the vintage. A burst of super-ripe red cherry fruit, spice, mint, tobacco and cedar gives the wine an extra kick of exoticism that is a signature of the year, and a bit out of character for Montelena. Even so, the wine retains its super-classic sense of structure. Today, the 2017 is clearly still recovering from its recent bottling a few months ago, but it has so much to offer. 93+ (AG)" (01/2020)
Price: $144.99

97 points Vinous: "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard is a big, powerful, brawny Calistoga Cabernet. Black cherry, grilled herbs, leather, menthol, licorice and cured meats give the 2017 striking aromatic nuance to play off a core of huge black fruit. Big, muscular tannins frame this decidedly virile, potent Cabernet Sauvignon. This is an especially rich, masculine wine. It is also the only pure Cabernet in the Turnbull range. (AG)" (09/2019) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Well-packed, with energetic açaí berry, blueberry and dark plum compote fl...

97 points James Suckling: "Loads of blackberry and iodine aromas follow through to a full body and very tight tannins that are pointed and together. Really long and flavorful. Shows focus and beauty. Just a touch of chocolate and hazelnut at the finish. " (01/2020) 96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lastly, the 2017 Moonracer comes from the estate in Stags Leap and includes small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. With a terrific sense of minerality as well as chocolaty dark fruits, tobacco, and spring flowers, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, out...

97 points James Suckling: "This is one of the most balanced Georges de Latour, offering currants, minerals, fresh herbs and spices. It’s full-bodied with very fine tannins. Long and focused. Subtle and complex. Very elegant and refined in the end. Reminds me of classic, old vintages from the 1960s and 1970s." (09/2020) 96 points Decanter: "Showcasing the deep slashes of liquorice that you find in Cabernet from Napa, this is layered with concentrated cassis. A more generously spiced, ripe, juicy and pure version than you often find in the savoury, menth...

2017 Gallica "Oakville Ranch Vineyard" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lastly, the 2017 Bordeaux Blend checks in as a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, all aged 18 months in barrel. This medium to full-bodied, fresh, lively 2017 has classy notes of blue fruits, violets, and sappy herbs, a touch of background oak, integrated acidity, and a clean, lengthy finish. It’s slightly tight and closed on the palate, and I suspect 3-4 years of bottle age will do it well. It’s going to have two decades of longevity (JD)." (01/2020)

98 points Vinous: "The 2017 Dominus is one of the truly epic, grand wines of the vintage. Rich, dense and explosive, with tremendous concentration and sheer power, the 2017 Dominus captures all the personality of this site along with the natural opulence of the year. Inky dark fruit, lavender, menthol, licorice, plum, gravel and a host of dark spice notes infuse the 2017 with seemingly endless layers of nuance. Over the last two years I have tasted several hundred Napa Valley Cabernets, both from barrel and bottle. There is no question that Dominus belon...

94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Reserve Claret is very pretty, if a touch understated, in this edition. Rose petal, cedar, mint, tobacco and sweet red berry fruit all lift from the glass. The 2017 offers lovely energy and brightness, but it is also a bit light in structure, as many wines are in this vintage. Even so, all the elements are so nicely balanced. Bright floral and spice notes linger nicely on the finish. (AG)" (01/2021) 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Reserve Claret is another beautiful wine, especially in the vintage. Loads of ripe red plum, b...

Offering lots of blue fruits (cassis, blueberries) as well as graphite, charcoal, and Asian spices, it has ripe tannins, a voluptuous mouthfeel, and a big finish." 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Steltzner Vineyard comes from the southern end of this Stags Leap Vineyard and shows a more perfumed, complex, elegant style. Lots of cassis fruits, notes of candied violets, and tons of spice all dominate the bouquet, and it has light tannins, medium to full body, and a great finish. " (01/2020) 94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Steltzner Vineyard shows just how pedigreed this Stags Leap site is. Creamy, ample and wonderfully inviting, the Steltzner is a Cabernet of total allure. Crème d...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the flagship releases, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Benchland Select is all Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 22 months in 60% new French oak. Deep purple-hued with a classic Cabernet nose of blackcurrants, cassis, graphite, cedary spice, and chocolate, this puppy hits the palate with full-bodied richness, an elegant, seamless texture, a chalky minerality, and a great finish. It's a smoking good Cabernet Sauvignon that will improve with 2-5 years of bottle age and cruise for two decades or more. This 2017 matches what this estat...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Blacktail Proprietary Red Blend MMXVII is a blend of 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Malbec, 23% Petite Sirah and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it is a little closed to begin, requiring some swirling to reveal a seducing perfume of lilacs, baked plums, blueberry pie and spice cake with hints of potpourri, unsmoked cigars and chocolate mint. The palate is medium to full-bodied and concentrated, but not in the least heavy, delivering layer upon layer of perfumed black fruits and a velvety textu...

The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot." 94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This was tasted as a barrel sample. Deep garn...

Jeb Dunnuck: "Just a beast of a wine, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane is one of the top wines in the vintage and is an incredible, insanely good effort that comes close to what this estate achieved in 2016. Blackcurrants, tobacco, chocolate, gravelly earth, and graphite all emerge from this youthful, primordial wine that stays tight and compact on the palate yet just oozes potential. Structured, full-bodied, and locked and loaded, it needs 4-5 years of bottle age and will cruise for 25 years or more." (01/2020)
