Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This impressive white delivers a core of quince, lemon rind and apple that blends with accents of white flower and lemongrass. Crisp acidity drives the freshness on the textured palate, offering elegance and plenty of layers of intrigue. This will do well in the cellar; enjoy 2021 - 2026. (VB)" (05/2019) 94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Chardonnay is a very pretty, understated wine from Hanzell. Lifted, gracious and quite subtle, it is super-expressive today. Readers should expect a finessed, translucent, incredibly distinctive C...

Like art in a bottle. Kent Humphrey created the Eric Kent winery as a celebration of art and craft. He sources fruit from some of Sonoma County's best vineyards and he partners with local Sonoma artists to feature their work in a sort of wine label gallery. Each wine Kent creates features a new and distinct piece of art. For Kent’s part, after pursuing a career in academia and advertising, he found a home in the wine cellar, and began working with vineyards he loves throughout Sonoma County. The Luke's Grove Chardonnay is primarily sourced from the Stili...

Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe aromas of pear flesh and yellow-apple slices meet with a hint of butter and lots of chalk on the nose of this blend of 67% Grenache Blanc and 33% Roussanne. The palate offers grapefruit-skin, nectarine and pear flesh flavors, proving very easy to quaff if not overly complex. (MK)" (08/2018)

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 White Wine from Tenshen is made from a blend of Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Chardonnay sourced from sites throughout the Central Coast. Brought up mostly in neutral barrels, with a small part in stainless, it offers rich, full-bodied aromas and flavors of buttered peach, tangerine, honeysuckle and flowers. Richly textured, balanced and with a clean, dry finish, it’s a terrific white Rhône blend readers should check out." 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Chardonnay Anderson Valley from the team at Rhys knocks it out of the park, and I suspect it’s a screaming value. White peach, apple blossom, spice, and some white flower notes all flow to a medium-bodied, elegant, seamless Chardonnay that has tons of character. It will keep for 5-7 years." John Gilman: "The 2016 Alesia Anderson Valley Chardonnay is a nicely cool customer at 12.5 percent and quite aromatically expressive, wafting from the glass in a fine blend of peach, a touch of guava, lovely soil tones, touch of fresh...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Orchard fruit and fresh-dried hay form the bouquet of this pale golden pour, with a touch of ginger-kissed pie crust in the background. The palate boasts enticing just-ripe orchard and citrus fruit flavors, like sliced apple, pear, tangelo and Meyer lemon, all mingling together in a cohesive medley. A moderate mousse and ample acidity keeps it all fresh and vibrant through the finish. (LB)" (12/2021)

The terroir-centric producer Albert Boxler devotes much time, love, and care into producing each vintage of their Crémant d'Alsace. This sparkling wine is made in the labor-intensive traditional method from a blend of Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and Pinot Noir. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the juice is racked by gravity into tank. Bottles are hand-rotated in the cellar and spend 24-30 months aging on the lees. It is very dry in style and consistently one of Alsace's best Crémants.

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "93+ points "The second vintage for this amazing and unusual sparkling Txakoli, the 2016 Izar-Leku was produced by the traditional method of second fermentation in bottle, where the wine spent 18 months, but the base wine was with lees for a year (one-third in barrel) before it was put in bottle. The bottles are kept at low temperature, 13 degrees Celsius and nowadays at 11.5 degrees Celsius, which makes for a slower fermentation that produces very fine bubbles. They have not disgorged all the bottles and some are...

90 points Vinous: "Luminous straw-gold. Varietally accurate aromas and flavors of smoke, grilled pork, white pepper and tropical fruit, but this has a lemony zing that gives a graceful mouthfeel despite a hint of chewy tannins at the back. The finish is long and ripe. Trimbach does not make this every year but only when they are able to buy good-quality grapes (the wine is made with roughly 95% purchased grapes). The most recent previous Gewürz Réserve was the 2011. About 14,000 bottles made. (ID)" (04/2018)

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I was blown away by the 2016 Chenin Blanc Mt. Pajaro (this is a new vineyard recently planted by Rhys) and this is unquestionably the finest expression of this variety I’ve tasted from California. From a site in the Santa Cruz Mountains, it boasts tons of flinty minerality and tart citrus to go with a concentrated, deep, medium to full-bodied vibe on the palate." (02/2019) 92 points Vinous: "The 2016 Chenin Blanc Mt. Pajaro Vineyard is the first wine off of this newly developed site, and it is gorgeous. Dried herb, pear, chamomi...

95 points Sam Kim: "Wonderfully fruited and gorgeously expressed, the bouquet shows nectarine, rockmelon, lemon peel, nougat and brioche characters with a hint of flinty complexity. The palate is superbly weighted and expansive with terrific fruit power and elegant oak infusion, leading to an impressively long delicious finish. At its best: now to 2024." (11/2019) 94 points Bob Campbell: "Elegant, lively chardonnay with ginger, toasted nut, white peach, citrus-lime and some struck flint savoury character. A clever interplay of fruit and winemaking arte...

91 points Vinous: "The 2016 Tocai Friulano is pliant, racy and inviting, with lovely citrus peel and orchard fruit character. This is an especially succulent style and yet the thickness of the skins is evident in the wine's structural feel. (AG)" (09/2018) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "Elegant and complex. A crisp, dry, floral white with aromas of green almond, honey and honey suckle, and flavors of apple and pear. Never had it before? Try it. You won't be disappointed! Ideal with shellfish and sole meuniere. The Tocai Fruilano, an Italian white varie...

94 points James Suckling: " What a beautiful, delicate peachy nose! On the palate there's a grace and elegance that's rare in this category. A long, very mineral and clean finish. Drink or hold – this would go at least another decade in the bottle. Screw cap." (10/2017) 94 points Vinous: "At 12.2% alcohol, this weighs in marginally (and surprisingly) higher than did its 2015 counterpart. But you’d never guess that from the buoyancy it exhibits. Its sunny disposition, infectious juiciness and invigorating pungency – all reflecting an aromatically penetr...

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Chardonnay Dupratt comes from the Anderson Valley and was brought up in 20% new French oak. It’s a more racy, vibrant Chardonnay that offers lots of white fruits, wet granite-like minerality, white flowers, and hints of tart apple. It builds with time in the glass and is medium-bodied, has a rounded, supple texture, beautiful purity of fruit, and a great finish. While it plays in the lighter style of the estate, it has terrific intensity and depth. It’s going to keep for upwards of a decade."

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled with 13% alcohol at the end of July 2019 but filtered in early 2017, the 2016 Im Weingebirge Grüner Veltliner Smaragd offers a fascinatingly clear, fresh and coolish apricot aroma intermixed with morel/mushroom aromas and flinty notes of crushed stones. Full-bodied, round and fleshy on the palate, this is a generous and mouth-filling wine with rather delicate acidity and a slightly bitter, well-structured finish with lingering salinity and mineral freshness. Very promising. Tasted from lot 1420619 at the ...

2016 Trimbach "Cuvée du Troiscentquatrevingtdixième (390th Anniversary)" Riesling Alsace
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Notes of petrol and pear are focused and intense on the nose. The palate is bright and lemony, with a silky smoothness. A long, puckery finish leaves a tingly sensation, as well as delicious notes of dill, fennel frond and eucalyptus. This wine is a bit of a slow burner and could easily keep aging, but there’s plenty here to enjoy and discover now. (LS)" (03/2022) 94 points Vinous: "Vivid straw-green. Rich aromas of soft citrus fruits, honey and minerals. Dense, juicy and tactile on the palate, featuring expressive flavors o...

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A pungent nose combines notes of petrol, straw, pear and a whiff of citrus rind. I like both the volume and punch of the middle weight flavors that emanate a subtle minerality on the clean, dry and moderately complex finale." (06/2018) K&L Notes: Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Vinified in stainless steel, then matured 40% in barrel of which half new and now reassembled before bottling. This has a lovely bouquet of fresh pears along with the faintest touch of liquorice. Really a delight. Excellent texture, middleweight fruit...

93 points James Suckling: "This impressive dry riesling is now coming into its own, and with new aromas (most importantly red apple, lime, grapefruit and dried herb) emerging with each swirl of the glass. On the palate it marries boldness and ample structure and some real textural complexity. Crisp, mineral finish with very well integrated acidity. Drink or hold." (11/2020) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A subtle and aromatic lift of dried chamomile flower registers first on the nose of this wine. The dry, svelte palate comes in with smooth, almost oily g...

90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Brought up in stainless steel, the 2016 Chardonnay Clone 76 Inox sports a light gold color as well crisp, clean notes of citrus blossom, lots of salty minerality, and white flower notes. Medium-bodied, fresh and crisp on the palate, it has terrific acidity and is an outstanding Chardonnay. Melville Winery has some changes recently with the departure of winemaker Greg Brewer and Chad Melville taking over the winemaking helm. These 2015s are pretty much outstanding across the board, but show the difficulty in the vintage with lighte...

Goldeneye in Anderson Valley has long been considered one of the benchmark producers of the region. Their Pinot Noirs have been consistent best sellers here at K&L for at least a decade. When we were offered some of their vintage Brut Rosé, a wine typically reserved for winery direct purchase, we jumped at the chance and weren't disappointed! Winemaker's Notes: "Anderson Valley has earned acclaim for the complexity and distinctiveness of its sparkling wines. Made from our very best blocks of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, our vibrant and alluring Goldeneye B...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "As always, the 2016 Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard is the most masculine and mineral-driven, with an exotic bouquet of white flowers, iodine, crushed rocks, and stone fruits. Reductive, concentrated, and powerful on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness, it’s a brilliant vintage from this vineyard and is a world-class Chardonnay in every way." Can Mayol, which bottles under the trademarked name "Loxarel," is a winery that has farmed organically for 15 years. The Mitjan family, owners of Can Mayol, also employ some biodynamic treatments. They keep animals, including chickens, a horse, and a donkey named Garnatxa. While the focus is on "Brut Nature" (no dosage added) sparkling wine production, they also produce some very interesting still wines.
