James Suckling: "The evolution of this wine has been phenomenal since I tasted it in barrel a year ago with the same black cherry, plum and citrus character but with a turn to orange leaf, dark Chinese tea, and mushroom. Full body, fine and velvety tannins with a touch of dust to the texture. So much chocolate and fruit undertones with forest floor and hints of tobacco, too. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The yellow-golden 2014 Clos de la Coulée de Serrant, a world famous and iconic Chenin with its own appellation (Savennières – Coulée de Serrant AC), opens with a beautifully clear, precise and aromatic bouquet of ripe and dried, lovely concentrated stone and grapefruit, as well as some honey aromas intermixed with crushed crystalline stones and herbal flavors. Highly elegant, clear and vital on the palate, this full-bodied wine is immensely intense but also silky, transparent and finesse-full. The long and stimulating finish is enormously piquant and salty, very compact but in perfect balance. Dark, ample and structured, the 2014 captures all the pedigree of this important Barbaresco vintage. As always, the Vietti's Masseria is a wine that has Barolo-like structure and depth, partly because it is vinified and aged pretty much along the same lines as those wines. I expect the 2014 will require at least a handful of years to shed some tannin and start showing some of its inherent inner sweetness. There is so much to look forward to. Deeply spiced and balsamic, with tremendous textural richness, the Pora is utterly beguiling. I can't remember a Pora with this much depth, textural resonance and brooding intensity. Wine & Spirits: "Harvested from the cooler seaward blocks of the Hirsch estate, West Ridge is a beauty in 2014, distilling the delicate essence of pinot noir and the coniferous imprint of the far Sonoma Coast into a wine that’s seamless, transparent and, as editor Josh Greene put it, “unfettered.” Maybe it’s the suggestive power of the wine’s aromatic intensity, but even the bright red color seems a bit magical, as if glinting with inner light. Underneath its pink-rose-petal tone, there’s an earthen tug that weaves the aromas into a complex, lasting flavor—imagine the silken yet mineral texture of a great young Chambolle. This is the first vintage in which John Raytek skipped the whole clusters and made the Cabernet with fully destemmed fruit. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2014 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Syrah (96VN, 94JG). Vinous: "The 2014 Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard is a magical wine. Interestingly, the Syrah shares much with the Pinot off this site in its structural feel and dark flavor profile. Inky blue/purplish fruit, herbs, crème de cassis, spice, lavender and mint are all beautifully delineated. Beams of supporting tannin give the wine its shape and overall intensity, yet the 2014 retains a super-classic, Santa Cruz Mountains feel of almost deceptively mid-weight structure. The 2014 was done with 100% whole clusters. Malolactic fermentation was done in steel, the wine then spent a year in barrique followed by a year in 25HL cask. What a gorgeous wine this is. The green bottle of Ace of Spades was created to commemorate the famous Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. The bottle is green to match the color of the jacket awarded to each year's winner. The bottle contains what is typically the "Gold Bottle" cuvee. From Armand de Brignac: "Marvelously complex and full-bodied, its bouquet is both fresh and lively, with light floral notes. On the palate, our Brut Gold has a sumptuous, racy fruit character perfectly integrated with the wine’s subtle brioche accents. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos is one of Servin's best offerings this vintage. That "wet pavement" scent is still intact since I last tasted it in barrel, the new oak has been neatly subsumed over the last 12 months. There is a sense of completeness here and that virtue comes across on the beautifully balanced palate. The silver bead of acidity keeps this les Clos nimble and light on its toes, delivering armfuls of dewy Granny Smith apples, fresh pear and just a hint of a brioche on the long and tender finish. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The bigger, richer 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petite Sirah aged 16 months in 50% new French and American casks. This is a bigger wine and close to 2% higher in alcohol at 15.5%. There are 11, 000 cases of this big, full-bodied, boisterous Cabernet Sauvignon that has a dense ruby/purple color, notes of underbrush, forest floor, tobacco leaf and oodles of blackcurrants and black cherries, with a touch of woodsmoke. The full-bodied wine hits the palate with a cascade of glycerin, fruit and purity. This is a beauty-dense, rich, and structured, but capable of lasting 20 or more years.It is hard to believe that the iconic Louis M. Martini Winery first made Napa Cabernet Sauvignon in 1933. Deep, rich and earthy, with notes of bouquet garni, smoked earth, licorice and dark fruits, it has full-bodied richness, a big mid-palate and is packed with gorgeous amounts of fruit. Vinous: "The highlight in this range, the exquisite 2014 Tignanello is all about persistence and understated class. The aromatics alone are captivating. Sculpted, finely delineated flavors add to the wine's vivid personality. Because of the challenges posed by the growing season, the blend leans more heavily toward Cabernet Sauvignon than is typically the case. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made up of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is deep garnet-purple in color with an incredibly youthful, primary fruited nose of crushed blackcurrants, blackberries and plums with touches of chocolate box, espresso, cinnamon stick, cloves and menthol.
