96 points Raymond Chan: "Even, dark ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. This has an elegantly presented nose with ethereal volume of ripe savoury dark-red berry fruits entwine harmoniously with a layer of dried herbs and earth, along with nutty and slightly resinous oak. Subtle dark-red florals emerge in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and well-concentrated with vibrantly sweet fruit flavours of savoury dark-red berry fruits complexed by layers of dark and dried herbs, and earthy and nutty oak interest. The fruit richness is ...

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A slightly more elegant if not quite as ripe nose offers up cool and airy aromas of pure red pinot fruit, spice and rose petal. I very much like the sleek and again sophisticated mouth feel of the medium weight flavors that are shaped in relatively fine tannins on the focused, intense and sneaky long finish. Lovely stuff that could also be enjoyed now or held for further development. *Outstanding*" (10/2018) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Pungent layers of earthiness, a mix of black tea, compost, clove and forest pine...

Rogstad is among a clutch of small boutique producers in Sonoma who are making the most of sourcing fruit from the many outstanding vineyard sites in the surrounding AVAs. The Thornton vineyard is a high-elevation site just over the crest of the Petaluma Gap from the iconic Gap's Crown vineyard. This east-facing plot of vines sits at 1,800 feet so it draws all the incredible benefits of the Gap into its finished wines. The wine is made from a one-acre block and shows vibrant, racy red fruit and a spicy, lifted finish supported by clean and precise acidit...

91 points John Gilman: "These are still quite young vines, having only been planted in 2004, but it is quite clear that the Rhys team is keeping a tight rein on yields here and the 2010 Horseshoe syrah is outstanding. It is not quite as soil-driven as the 2010 Skyline syrah (this vineyard does not share the same limestone found at Skyline), but it is every bit as complex and impressive. I love its octane level of 12.8 percent. The superb nose offers up scents of cassis, grilled venison, black olive, pepper, a nice touch of syrah’s medicinal overtones, a ...

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1Er Cru les Malconsorts has an elegant, refined bouquet with mineral-tinged red berry fruit, composed and a little backward but nicely focused. There is class here. The palate is supple on the entry with fine tannin, silky smooth in texture, very harmonious and nicely structured on the finish. This is a subtle Malconsorts, one that should not be underestimated. (NM)" (12/2015) 91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A top note of menthol adds to the breadth of the overtly spicy and fr...

2014 Sea Smoke "Botella" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Back In Stock!
Impressive and rare as can be, this is one of the most collectable Pinots from a cult producer of this up and coming, uber hot region. An immediately approachable wine, offering aromas of crushed cherries, forest floor and toasted pine nuts. On the palate, flavors of macerated blueberries and the signature minerality of the 'Botella' clay soils for which this wine is named. Made to age, this wine has long term potential in your cellar. If you can wait that long!

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Pommard les Riottes, which comes from a parcel next to Château de Pommard, has quite a high-toned bouquet with candied red cherry fruit that is nicely defined. The palate is fleshy and ripe, slightly saline on the entry with good depth, the texture a touch chewy and rustic towards the finish but with fine density. Probably one of the earlier-drinking Pommards. Thierry Glantenay was there to greet me up in his winery in the upper reaches of Volnay amidst a downpour, the steep single lane outside temporarily turned...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Hirsch "Raschen Ridge" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (94VN, 93W&S, 92WE). Vinous: "An addition to the range, 2014 Pinot Noir Estate Raschen Ridge, is a wine of exquisite finesse. Silky, gracious and lifted, the 2014 has a Chambolle-like sweetness and striking aromatic presence. Fine tannins give the wine its shape and overall feel, while hints of orange peel, sweet red cherry and herbs add to the wine's understated personality. The Raschen Ridge is named after America painter Henry Raschen, who once lived on the property, and emerges from a ridge that sits between the eastern and western sides of the estate. Perhaps because of that location, the wine captures an extraordinary amount of the nuance that has made Hirsch such a compelling site for the many winemakers who have coveted this fruit over the years. Bid on this 3-bottle tasting lot; including 2-bottles of 2014 Testarossa "Rosemary's Vineyard" Arroyo Grande Pinot Noir (93RP, 92WE) and 1-bottle of 2014 Testarossa "Soberanes Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir (94WE, 92WS, 90CG, 90RP). Of the 2014 Testarossa "Soberanes Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir, Wine Enthusiast writes: "Stark minerality, from hot gravel to chipped slate, meets with garrigue elements of lavender and thyme on the nose of this strong bottling that gains a savory quality thanks to roasted-pork aromas. The requisite fruit arrives on the sip, where smashed cranberry meets with pepper spice and dried herbs. The structure is grippy and affords great length in the finish. (MK)" (12/2016)
Starting Bid: $120.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2014 Rhys "Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (95VN, 94JG, 94RP, 91BH). Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard bristles with energy. Rose petal, mint, white pepper and blood orange give the Alpine its super-appealing aromatic upper register, but there is plenty of depth lurking beneath. Here the flavors are bright and nicely focused, while the richness of the vintage is mostly felt in the dense, potent finish. (AG)" (07/2016)
Starting Bid: $240.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Sea Smoke "Ten" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (93WE, 92WS). Wine Enthusiast: "This richer expression of Pinot Noir kicks off with vanilla and warm cherry sauce on the nose, along with a bit of caramel, enabling it to appeal to lovers of darker red wines. The sip delivers a great depth of berry fruit as well as elegant purple flowers. A chipped-slate minerality is further lifted by dried thyme and bay leaf, making for a hearty but balanced sip. Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2014 Cirq "Bootlegger's Hill" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (93VN, 92WS) and 1-bottle of 2014 Cirq "Treehouse Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (94VN, 92WS). Of the 2014 Cirq "Treehouse Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, Vinous writes: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Treehouse is more typical of the Russian River in its boisterous, racy personality and dark fruit profile. Black cherry, cola, spice and menthol are some of the many notes that flesh out in this ample, resonant Pinot. Richly textured and phenolic in feel, the Treehouse is another winner from CIRQ and proprietor Michael Browne. (AG)" (08/2017)
Starting Bid: $180.00

Bid on this bottle of 2014 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (96BH, 96RP, 96VN, 94DC). Vinous: "Bright medium red. Ineffably complex, pure scents of fresh raspberry, cherry, rose petal, peppery spices, crushed herbs and mint. Almost surprisingly silky on entry, then sweet but very restrained, even a bit ungiving, in the middle palate, with pungent red berry and mineral flavors conveying an impression of electric energy. This wine builds slowly and inexorably with air, opening out into a peacock's talk of a finish that's lifted by a pungent hint of green pepper. This youthfully austere wine will need a good 15 years to display its inherent flesh and richness but even today it stands out for its finesse. (ST) 96+" (03/2017)
Starting Bid: $3,495.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2014 Peter Michael "Le Caprice" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (97JS, 92RP, 91VN, 91WS). James Suckling: "Very powerful aromas of dried spices and cloves with oyster shell and plums. Sandalwood. Bark. Full body. Dense and powerful. Very long and flavorful. Unique. Drink now." (05/2017)
Starting Bid: $140.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Peter Michael "Le Moulin Rouge" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir (93WS, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "A graceful, refined style that captures suppleness and finesse. Charming, delivering elegant plum and wild berry flavors. Most impressive for the subtle structure and delivery. (JL, Web-2016)"
Starting Bid: $210.00

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2014 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Clos des Porrets St-Georges" (94JG, (90-93BH), 91RP, 90VN). John Gilman: "One of the nicest side effects of my completing my historical feature on the Gouges family earlier this year was my finally understanding just how brilliant a bottling the Clos des Porrets is here year in and year out. The 2014 looks destined to be a reference point vintage for this fine terroir, as the wine is very refined on both the nose and palate out of the blocks. The superb bouquet is a blend of red and black cherries, coffee, pigeon, a gorgeous base of soil tones, fresh herbs and a hint of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and properly reserved in personality, with a great core of pure fruit, fine soil signature and a very, very long, fine-grained finish. This will be a supremely elegant vintage of Clos des Porrets. " (11/2015)
Starting Bid: $330.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2014 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (95RP, 95VN, 94JG). Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is one of the most subtle wines in the lineup. Black cherry, plum, mint, hard candy and sweet spices, along with ripe, silky tannins, give the wine its sense of creaminess and textural finesse. Super-expressive aromatics and layered, plush fruit add to the wine's considerable appeal. (AG)" (07/2016)
Starting Bid: $240.00

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2014 Kosta Browne "Gap's Crown Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (94RP, 90VN, 90WS) and 1-bottle of 2014 Kosta Browne "Keefer Ranch" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (96RP, 93WS, 92CG). Of the 2014 Kosta Browne "Keefer Ranch" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Coming from the Russian River Valley and an estate vineyard that was purchased in 2012, the rich, gorgeously layered and textured 2014 Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch Vineyard offers an exotic fruit profile, with notions of cassis, passion fruit, spice and dried flowers all emerging from the glass. Full-bodied, layered and rich, yet with the purity and precision that's present in all of these 2014s, drink bottles anytime over the coming decade, and I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see it keep for longer. (JD)" (09/2016)
Starting Bid: $140.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2014 Sea Smoke "Southing" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (92WE, 91WS). Wine Enthusiast: "Crisp boysenberry and black raspberry aromas meet with lthyme, oregano and a touch of caramelization on the nose of this Sea Smoke bottling. Dark cranberry fruit shows on the palate, lifted by anise, pepper and an array of herbs, all framed by a leathery texture. *Cellar Selection* (MK)" (04/2017)
Starting Bid: $130.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2014 Kosta Browne Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (93RP, 91CG, 91VN, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The appellation 2014 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley from this team is a smoking effort. Mostly destemmed and brought up in 44% new French oak, it's loaded with notions of black raspberries, toasted spice, licorice and underbrush. These give way to a full-bodied, concentrated, textured Pinot Noir that packs plenty of fruit, while never losing the elegance and purity of the variety. It will evolve every bit as well as most of the single vineyard releases. (JD)" (09/2016)
