2008 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvée Louis" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "Complex and rich nose of dried apricot, lemon pith, dried pineapple, praline, hazelnut, white cocoa, chalk and nutmeg. Creamy and delicious fruit here, yet it’s mineral and refined with very fine, precise bubbles. Structured, with a sharp, persistent backbone of acidity. Long and very focused." (05/2022) K&L Notes: An oak-aged expression from this historic house, from some of the best parcels in the Côte des Blancs. From the winery: "This cuvée was named in tribute to Louis, Elisabeth Salmon’s brother, who was passionate abou...

2008 Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
96 points Wine Enthusiast: "While still young, this Champagne has all the makings of greatness. Produced from grand cru vineyards, it already balances ripe white fruits with a firm structure that will age well. It’s relatively dry and has plenty of acidity, which will also aid in the longevity. *Top Cellar Selections 2019* (RV)" (12/2019) 95 points James Suckling: "This is a solid and very dense Champagne with a phenolic and rich texture. Layers of cooked apples and light lemon rind. Brioche and light pie-crust in the aftertaste. Fresh and relatively d...

2008 Maison Louis Latour Meursault 1er Cru "Poruzots"
Top Pick!
90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Expressive aromas of apple and pear lifted by almond flower. Sweet but lively, with noteworthy energy and considerable personality to its fruit and mineral flavors. I like this style. (ST)" (09/2010) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Supple and fresh, with a touch of spice complementing the apple, grapefruit and wax flavors. Picks up a mineral element on the finish, with a chalky feel. (BS)" (11/2010)
Price: $69.99

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a single parcel in Urville, the 2008 Brut Grande Sendrée is exceptional, opening in the glass with incipiently rich aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, brioche, marzipan and wheat toast that seems to be on the cusp of acquiring more nutty complexity. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and tight-knit, with superb concentration and structural tension, built around racy acids and concluding with an attractively chalky finish. In keeping with the vintage, this is quite a tensile, reserved G...

94 points Vinous: "Deep ruby with an amber rim. Brooding coffee and cocoa nuances complicate rich dark cherry and blackberry syrup on the nose. Large-scaled, dense and juicy, showing tactile flavors of dark berries and chocolate complemented by a note of underbrush. This long, smoothly tannic wine pulls off the neat trick of being a behemoth while staying light on its feet. Still, it needs a lot of time to show its best. (ID) 94+" (09/2015) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A finely honed red, with dense, sculpted tannins and a rich, smoky undertow. Flavors o...

2008 Piper-Heidsieck "Cuvée Rare" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
97 points Wine Spectator: "Like a stallion out of the gate, this shows an initial explosion of power, in the form of mouthwatering flavors and fine texture, before quickly settling into an elegant gait. The racy acidity is seamlessly knit, buoying the lacy mousse and flavors of cassis, toasted brioche and tangerine, with accents of candied ginger, hazelnut and fleur de sel lingering on the long, creamy finish. (AN)" (12/2020) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A gorgeous, yet tight, backward vintage for this cuvée, the 2008 Champagne Rare is based on 70% Chardonn...

2008 Zýme "La Mattonara" Amarone della Valpocella Classico Riserva (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98 points Vinous: "The 2008 Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva La Mattonara keeps you at the edge of the glass, as it opens up in layers, showing dried cherries, currants and hints of pine. Further coaxing brings forward savory smoke followed by crushed blackberries, cinnamon, clove and candied citrus. The textures are like pure silk, slowly draped across the palate with a polished sheen, leaving ripe red and black fruits, mocha, sweet herbs and autumnal spice. You can feel the weight, yet the 2008 remains remarkably balanced, vibrant and flat-out delici...

96 points Decanter: "Closed and tight right now, there are clear bright and well-defined cassis notes but those tannins still have grip and attitude, and it is pretty clear that a full ten years in bottle is not always enough to fully soften Opus. This vintage saw a very low yield, two tonnes instead of the usual four, due not only to the heat spell in September but also because it was the last year of an irrigation programe where they were restricting water to drive the roots further down into the soil. (JA)" (09/2019) 95 points Vinous: "A gorgeous wi...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Faro Palari is the vintage currently on the market. The 2008 vintage in the Straits of Messina is similar to 2005 in terms of its mild climate and balanced weather. A good amount of rain and cool night temperatures during harvest set the conditions for bright aromatic intensity. This wine shows a beautiful quality of fruit with small red berries and a solid dose of ripe peach. Balsam herbs and dried rosemary appear on the fringe. As the wine evolves in the glass, it begins to show more leather and black ...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "The Late Bottled Vintage Ports from this producer are made to be aged after bottling. That's why this wine still has great freshness as well as tannins. It is dry, showing the blackberry fruits with acidity as well as richness. (RV)" (05/2020)
Price: $34.99

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "There are times, and this is clearly one of them, when measuring a wine by its label-stated alcohol level is an exercise in self denial. Better that one should measure this one by its gorgeous, focused, deep and balanced character because this is a refined, complex effort with layers and layers of on-point attractions. Its handsome aromas combine notes of ripe cherries with those of raspberries, new leather, hints of cedar and a nice suggestion of rich hardwoods. Admittedly full in body, yet silky in texture and very well-b...

2008 Catena Zapata "Nicolás Catena Zapata" Bordeaux Blend Mendoza
Back In Stock!
98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Nicolas Catena Zapata is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Malbec, and the balance Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc that spent 24 months in 100% new French oak followed by 24 months in bottle prior to release. It delivers an inviting bouquet of wood smoke, pencil lead, espresso, incense, lavender, black currant, and black cherry. This sets the stage for a full-bodied, powerful yet elegant, beautifully proportioned effort with great depth and volume. It conceals plenty of structure and will effortless...

2008 Le Gay, Pomerol (1.5L)
Back In Stock!
94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the top successes of the vintage, the 2008 Le Gay, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc (13.5% alcohol) was produced from tiny yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it exhibits a dense purple color as well as a sweet nose of spring flowers intermixed with blueberries, blackberries, dark raspberries, crushed rocks and white chocolate. Full-bodied, super intense and extremely promising (although it is unusually backward for a 2008), it will benefit from 5-7 years of ce...

91 points Wine Spectator: "Delightfully complex, elegant and stylish, with a mix of mocha, espresso, wild berry and blackberry fruit that's complex, deep and full-bodied, ending with a pleasant lift that keeps the flavors lively. Drink now through 2019. 519 cases made. (JL)" (02/2011)
Price: $39.99

90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Led in the nose by a solid measure of ripe-cherry fruit and filled out with a trim bit of sweet oak and lightly accented with herbs and a touch of dried brush, thisk lithe and supple young wine is long on precise Merlot character right up until the time that its Cabernet tannins kick in. It gets a bit ragged in the latter going but never so much so that aging will not fix, and, while not a wine we would pour tonight, we see very good things ahead some four to six years down the line." (03/2013) 90 points Wine & Spirits: "...
Price: $49.99

94 points Wine Spectator: "Impressive for its richness, depth and layers of ripe cherry, wild berry and raspberry fruit, shaded by loamy earth and black licorice notes that continue to build and expand. Full-bodied, ending with a long, persistent finish that focuses on the fruit themes. Drink now through 2017. 690 cases made." (06/10)

2008 Galardi "Terra Di Lavoro" Roccamonfina
Back In Stock!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Galardi’s 2008 Terra di Lavoro is a legend in the making. It is a fabulously ripe, rich and seductive wine endowed with beautifully articulated dark plums, ash, leather, licorice, all of which meld together in an explosive, utterly thrilling display of class and elegance. Clean, mineral notes frame the eternal finish. Today the 2008 is impossibly young and the wine will require considerable patience, but its class, pedigree and potential are all first-rate. Simply put, the 2008 is a monumental Terra di Lavoro. (A...

98 points James Suckling: "An amazing 2008 rosé Champagne that has all the structure and aromatic complexity - sushi ginger, oolong tea and caramelized mandarin orange - we associate with this vintage, but also has more charm than most. On the palate, this has stunning concentration, yet is diamond bright. The interplay of creaminess, fine tannins and mineral acidity builds and builds at the breathtaking finish. The color comes from about 7% pinot noir red wine, partly from the little-known Les Riceys in the far south of Champagne. Drink or hold. " (11/2...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Unquestionably one of the gems in the vintage is the 2008 Pontet-Canet, which reminds me of the 2005 with its concentrated, deep, powerful style. Beautiful dark fruits, graphite, obvious minerality, and classic Pauillac lead pencil notes all emerge from this still youthful, full-bodied, and pure 2008 that’s 4-5 years away from maturity and will keep for 30+ years. Hats off to Alfred Tesseron for another awesome wine that ranks up with the crème de la crème of the vintage." (02/2019) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A ca...

94 points Decanter: "Supremely attractive nose of lemon, lime, dry stone fruits, Christmas cake, nutmeg, vanilla and almond. Delicate texture on the palate with a very long finish. (SF)" (09/2021) 94 points James Suckling: "Complex aromas of dried citrus fruit, such as orange and peach with pie crust. Some brioche. White pepper. Full-bodied, dense and layered. Very deep and beautiful. Needs time to come together, but already a beauty." (07/2019) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Pretty floral and spice notes on the nose lead to ripe golden apple, slivered a...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is hard to call Petrus a 'sleeper of the vintage,' but the 2008 will merit more attention than most consumers would think. Low yields of 30 hectoliters per hectare resulted in only 25,000 bottles of this beauty. A wine of great intensity (possibly the most concentrated wine of the vintage), this 100% Merlot boasts a dark purple color as well as a sweet perfume of mocha, caramel, black cherries, black currants, earth and forest floor. Deep, unctuously textured, full-bodied and pure, it will benefit from 4-5 yea...

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (93RP, 93ST, 93W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Mount Eden's 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate comes across as silky, perfumed and impeccably balanced. Dark red berries, flowers, mint and spices flesh out in this gracious, medium-bodied wine. The Estate is all about subtlety and class. Sweet floral notes reappear to frame the exquisite finish. (AG)" (08/2012)
Starting Bid: $90.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Veuve Clicquot Brut Rosé Champagne (93WS, 92DC, 92JG, 92RP, 92W&S, 92WE). Wine Spectator: "A well-cut, minerally version, with a firm backbone of acidity and a lacy mousse, layered with flavors of baked currant, toast and lemon curd. Offers a racy, spiced finish. (AN)" (10/2017)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Angélus, St-Emilion (95JD, 94DC, 94WE, 93RP, 93VN, 92JG, 92ST, 91WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2008 Angélus offers a still youthful, vibrant color as well as a classic Angélus bouquet of spice box, black currants, tobacco, and hints of white truffle. This elegant, silky effort is beautifully balanced, with sweet tannin and a great finish. (JD)" (02/2019)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Sine Qua Non "The Line" California Grenache (98JD, 98RP, 97VN, 95JS, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine was just released in April of this year, and is a blend of 87.5% Grenache, 11% Syrah, and 1.5% Viognier, with 21% whole clusters used in the Grenache component. Seventy-eight percent of it came from the 11 Confessions Vineyard and the balance from Bien Nacido and the White Hawk. It is no measly wine at 15.5% alcohol, but it displays extraordinary berry fruit and kirsch notes intermixed with lavender and other floral components. Intense, full-bodied, voluptuously textured, and stunningly pure, with no real noticeable oak (21% new French oak was used, most of it the larger demi-muids), this beauty has put on weight and is showing additional complexity since I first tasted it. (RP)" (08/2011)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine du Château de Chorey Beaune 1er Cru "Cuvée Tante Berthe" ((91-93BH), 92JG). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Mild reduction and obvious, but not intrusive, wood presently dominates the nose but the rich, serious and mouth coating flavors possess ample underlying material, in particular excellent dry extract levels that confer a velvety mouth feel and relegate the firm tannins to the background, at least for the time being as I would expect the structure to become much more apparent after a few years in bottle. This should be terrific in time and this could even surprise to the upside as the mid-palate concentration is really quite impressive." (04/2010)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Querciabella ''Palafreno'' Toscano (93JG, 93JS, 92VN). James Suckling: "A concentrated red, with chocolate, berry and currant character. Full and chewy. Layered and rich. Made from organic grapes. " (09/2011)
Starting Bid: $160.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru "Montée de Tonnerre" (94ST, 93BH, 93JG, 93RP, 93WE, 90W&S, 90WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale yellow-green color. Knockout high-pitched nose combines white flowers, crushed stone, citrus peel, gingery spices and a saline oyster shell nuance. Quite reserved today but impeccably pure, displaying outstanding breadth and richness without any impression of weight. Wonderfully vigorous wine that saturates the entire mouth with tactile minerality and excites the taste buds. A great example of this superb premier cru. (ST)" (08/2010)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Domaine Saint Préfert Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape blanc (80% Clairette and 20% Roussanne fermented in old barrels) reveals abundant aromas of waxy rose petals and honeysuckle along with good freshness and minerality, plenty of body, and a honeyed finish. (RP)" (10/2009)
Starting Bid: $50.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Tenuta San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri (98DC, 97JS, 97RP, 97WE, 96VN, 94WS). Decanter: "Dense, intense chocolate and damson colour. On the nose things are still very closed despite its age. Although the palate is heading to the splitting point where the tertiary aromatics and flavours are making their appearance, though they’re held back by the primary vibrant blackberry fruits and a seam of Sassicaia freshness, with a bite of liquorice root. After a moment in the glass, the nose starts to open. Undergrowth notes are most clear at first, followed by black truffles. This is slowly opening up, taking time and patience. A clearly great vintage, and one that has many years ahead of it. (JA)" (10/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Rochioli "East Block" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir ((95-97RP), 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another top-notch success among this brilliant portfolio is the 2008 Pinot Noir East Block. The most powerful, rich, and full of these offerings, it has the best upside in terms of longevity. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of sweet cola, forest floor, camphor, pomegranate, raspberries, and black cherries. From the Rochioli’s coolest terroir (all of their sites are relatively cool), this beauty boasts layers and layers of fruit as well as an expansive, long, 40+ second finish. (RP)" (02/2010)
Starting Bid: $148.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Produttori del Barbaresco "Pora" Barbaresco Riserva (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Playing true to type, the 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is another of the more open wines in this vintage. But that is only in relative terms. Layers of expressive red fruit, crushed flowers and spices flesh out in this radiant Barbaresco. In most vintages the Pora is one of the more accessible of the Riservas when young. The close proximity of the vineyard to the Tanaro River results in a warm microclimate that ripens the fruit earlier than elsewhere. In 2008, though, the Pora packs a serious punch. The coolness of the late harvest comes through in a finish laced with considerable tension and minerality. This is easily one of the very best Poras I have ever tasted from the Produttori. (AG)" (10/2012)
Starting Bid: $120.00

Bid on this magnum of 2008 Francesco Rinaldi & Figli "Le Brunate" Barolo (1.5L) (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barolo Le Brunate is quite a bit richer, deeper and more powerful than the Cannubbio, as one might reasonably expect. Here the fruit boasts tons of pure resonance and stuffing while never losing its essential classicism. Plums, black cherries, leather, tar and licorice meld together, supported by firm yet beautifully integrated tannins. The 2008 Brunate is an explosive wine just waiting to emerge. When it does, it should be striking. Actually, it already is. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038. (AG)" (10/2012)
Starting Bid: $110.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Alban "Reva" Edna Valley Syrah (96JD, (95-96JS), 96RP, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Reva (Syrah) is stunningly beautiful. This is a relatively delicate, feminine Reva that impresses for its length, balance and utter purity of fruit. Dark red cherries, flowers, mint and silky, saline notes wrap around the expressive fruit on the long, polished finish. A hint of truffles adds to the wine’s sensual, totally beguiling personality. In 2008, the Reva is drop-dead gorgeous. Readers should note that, in this vintage, there is no Lorraine or Seymour’s, so the 2008 is a 'super-Reva!' (AG) 96+" (08/2012)
Starting Bid: $300.00

Bid on this magnum of 2008 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (99DC, 99WE, 98RP, 96ST, 94WS). Wine Enthusiast: "The flagship wine from Quilceda Creek offers exotic scents of plum, cassis, loam, coffee and pine sap, a rich and evocative blend. The wine delivers all that is promised and more; it is deep and dense with flavor, polished, focused and persistent. Vanilla, espresso, fine tannins, luscious acids and cascading fruits. *Best of 2012, Editors' Choice* (PG)" (02/2010)
Starting Bid: $235.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (100JD, 100JS, 99DC, 99JG, 99VN, 98RP, 98WE, 97WS). James Suckling: "Disgorged October 2016 and will be the first Cristal to be released ten years from harvest when it is offered in 2018. 35 parcels used from a possible 45 in this vintage. The assemblage is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. This is so fresh and tense and mineral with extremely exuberant Chardonnay notes on the nose of white peach, lemon and yellow grapefruit, and hints of almost brambly sous bois aromas. The yeast characters are also super fresh, and there are subtle woody notes, with a hint of vanilla bean and light spices. The palate is super long, and very pure, powerful and focused. ." (10/2019)
