95 points Wine Enthusiast: "From a great vintage, this wine both reflects the year and also shows the producer's trademark crisp style that keeps the wine's natural acidity. That approach lends itself to aging and this wine, now 11 years old, is still intensely fresh. It only just shows signs of maturity and toast. That means it will age further... (RV)" (12/2019) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Notes of oyster shell, graphite and spice are a fresh and aromatic entry for this vibrant Champagne, layered with firm, focusing acidity and flavors of poached apri...

2008 Philippe Gonet "Cuvée Belemnita" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
93 points Decanter: "Sourced from Chardonnay vines situated in the Mesnil-sur-Oger Grand Cru and planted in 1929, Belmnita has a sappy and well-delineated palate offering vibrant white fruits, apple and citrus fruit flavours. There's a lot to like in this crystalline, pure and clean Champagne. Dosage: 3g/l. (YC)" (11/2019) K&L Notes: This wine comes from one plot of Chardonnay in the world famous village of Mesnil, a plot planted by the great grandfather of Chantal and Pierre Gonet (the current proprietors) back in 1929. The vines go deep into the Bele...

2008 Martinelli "Hop Camp Vineyard - Gravel Lens" Russian River Valley Syrah
Back In Stock!
92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2008 Martinelli Syrah Hop Camp Vineyard 'Gravel Lens' (Grave lens refers to the rare soil characteristic of alluvial soil layers interleaved with layers of gravel) is a big, beautifully fruited Syrah that possess touches of northern Rhone like qualities mainly on the nose. Blackberry, cracked pepper, mineral, and hints of chocolate all emerge, and this fleshes out over the evening and gains floral and violets characteristics, as well as notable complexity and a layered profile. This full-bodied, beautifully textured Syrah has ...

2008 Domaine Louis Boillot Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Evocelles"
Back In Stock!
91-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sweetly ripe morellos cherries such as one found in the corresponding 2006 fill the nose and mouth from Boillot’s 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles, which also evinces an especially savory if elusive meatiness and the piquancy of fruit pits. Sappy and vibrant through to its long finish, this superb evocation of an under-rated site should be worth attending to for at least a decade. (DS)" (06/2010) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(from four parcels averaging 50 to 55 years of age) Br...

2008 Saint-Pierre, St-Julien
Back In Stock!
93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As I predicted from barrel, this stunning effort is a wine to buy by the case. Its opaque ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of graphite, barbecue smoke, blackberries and black currants. The full-bodied, textured 2008 Saint-Pierre reveals a skyscraper-like mouthfeel along with tremendous viscosity and unctuosity. One of the richest and potentially longest-lived 2008s, it is a fabulous sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 20+ years. (RP)" (05/2011) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "At 40 acres, Saint-Pi...

2008 Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino

94 points Wine Enthusiast: " * Cellar Selection* Here’s a beautiful interpretation from the 2008 vintage that shows balance, harmony and intensity all zipped up into one tight package. That seamless integration, followed by rich extraction, gives the wine momentum overall. Although this is a different wine from past vintages, the quality is just as high. Hold 5-10 years." (05/2013) 93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of chocolate and black cherries with sweet fruit undertone. Full and very soft tannins with a bright acidity underneath. Velvety texture ...

97 points Decanter: "Now almost blanc de noirs, boasting 92% Pinot Noir and just 8% Chardonnay from 60%-70% estate vineyards. La Grande Dame is one of the most affordable of Champagne’s elite prestige set, and the stunning 2008 vintage was intricately engineered by the masterful Dominique Demarville for the long haul. It unites all of the enduring potential of its thundering grands crus with the tension and energy of this legendary season, colliding high-tensile acidity with deep, fine, powdery chalk minerality, bringing its finish into stark focus. (TS)...

92-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A trace of new wood sets off very fresh and elegant red berry fruit aromas cut with a distinct stoniness that give way to rich, refined and beautifully detailed medium weight flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration and impeccable balance. A classic Latricières that displays just a touch of finishing austerity as well as the definite sense of underlying reserve. A great first vintage." (01/2010) 90-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium red. Nose offers dark cherry, smoky oa...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano emerges from the glass with dark cherries, flowers, sweet spices and French oak. Hints of licorice, smoke and tar develop in the glass, adding complexity and nuance. The Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano, the estate's top Pinot, is made in a distinctly flashy, fruit-driven style. The intense, saline finish gives the wine its energy and drive. This is another beautiful wine from Hofstatter. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. " (02/2012) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Tart cherry scents cours...
Price: $39.99

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The current vintage of the special cuvée is the 2008 Kripta, a classical blend of the local grapes Macabeo, Xarello and Parellada aged in contact with the lees in bottle for a long time, no less than five years, during which time the bottle is closed with a cork (it's usually a crown stopper). Apparently this gives the wine a different character and is the way it was traditionally done. This is a polished Cava with yeast and brioche aromas and a soft palate with clean, developed flavors and integrated acidity. A ...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "An ultrarich Cabernet that shows the pedigree of its vineyard. It's dramatic in blackberry, cherry, plum, cassis, chocolate, anise and baking spice flavors, wrapped into a wonderfully soft, gentle tannins. With a long, sweet finish, it should develop over the next 10 years." (08/2011)
Price: $89.99

94 points James Suckling: "Taking on a balsamic and high-toned wood character to the ripe fruit on the nose. Some dried cheese and ripe fruit, too. Medium-bodied with integrated tannins that are polished and fine. Goes on for minutes. A beautiful, traditional wine, as always. Drink or hold." (09/2020) K&L Notes: 96 points Tim Atkin "Bosconia faces south and has plenty of fruit sweetness, even in a very cool Atlantic vintage like 2008. Combining Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo, it’s a delightfully subtle, traditional Rioja. Reserva t...

2008 d'Issan, Margaux
Back In Stock!
93 points John Gilman: "As I wrote about way back in Issue Thirty-Four, the 2008 Château d’Issan is an excellent example of this outstanding and truly underrated vintage, and this most recent bottle showed even better potential than the bottle I sampled back in Bordeaux in preparation for that article. The bouquet is deep, pure and utterly classic in profile, offering up a fine mix of dark berries, cassis, cigar smoke, gravelly soil tones, fresh herbs and a nice framing of new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, nascently complex and beaut...

2008 Fattoria Le Pupille "Saffredi" Maremma Toscana

96 points James Suckling: "Love the aromas of blackberries, licorice and lightly toasted oak. Full bodied, with velvety tannins and a rich finish. Ripe tannins with a beautiful polished. Vanilla. Will come together with bottle age. Very serious as always. Such class and complexity." (08/2011) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Vintner Elisabetta Geppetti’s Saffredi is part cult wine and part mainstream blockbuster in that the wine enjoys worldwide fame, but few know it well. 2008 Produttori del Barbaresco "Pora" Barbaresco Riserva
Back In Stock!
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Playing true to type, the 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is another of the more open wines in this vintage. But that is only in relative terms. Layers of expressive red fruit, crushed flowers and spices flesh out in this radiant Barbaresco. In most vintages the Pora is one of the more accessible of the Riservas when young. The close proximity of the vineyard to the Tanaro River results in a warm microclimate that ripens the fruit earlier than elsewhere. In 2008, though, the Pora packs a serious punch. The coolness ...

2008 Tua Rita "Giusto di Notri" Toscana

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Giusto di Notri is wonderfully alive in the glass. Dark red berries, flowers, spices, grilled herbs, licorice and leather are some of the notes that flesh out in this dazzling, vibrant Giusto di Notri. Polished tannins provide the backdrop for the silky, expressive finish. A final blast of red fruit adds freshness and brightness on the close. Giusto di Notri is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028. (AG)" (08/2011) 94 points Stephen Tanzer's Internat...

2008 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac
Back In Stock!
95 points Decanter: "As you would expect, this turns up the bass on its neighbour. It's a full-throttle display with a powerful dark undertow, approaching peak-Pauillac. It is wonderfully balanced, with flavours of graphite, dark plum, coffee and grilled rosemary, and the tannins are so well structured, fine and layered. It's a great wine in an average year, showing its pedigree and easily among the best in the appellation in 2008. (JA)" (12/2017) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the richer, sexier wines in the vintage, the 2008 Pichon-Longueville Baron ...

2008 Felsina "Fontalloro" Toscana Rosso
Back In Stock!
94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Fontalloro is the yin to the Rancia’s yang. It is also characteristically beautiful, open and expressive at this stage. Layers of sweet red fruit, flowers and spices blossom effortlessly from the 2008 Fontalloro. The intensely saline finish that is present in the Rancia is found in Fontalloro as well. I am usually not the biggest fan of Fontalloro, but there is no denying the superb pedigree and sheer class of the 2008. This is a wonderfully, sophisticated, polished wine from Felsina. In 2008 the slightl...

Needs some time. (JM)" (04/2011) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This potential sleeper of the vintage has come around nicely now that it is in bottle. Elegant yet substantial, it exhibits a dense purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of black currants, cassis, cedarwood, herbs, toast and loamy soil undertones. Medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin ...

2008 Phélan-Ségur, St-Estèphe
Back In Stock!
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a woody, toasty wine, which seems to be the style here for the last several years. It has weight, but does need time for the wood to subside and bring out the elegant fruits." (04/11) According to Robert Parker: " A distinctive earthy, spicy character along with hints of camphor, black currants and raspberries emerge from this medium-bodied 2008. Soft tannins, a seductive mouthfeel and surprising length suggest this wine can be drunk now and over the next decade." (05/11) According to the Wine Spectator: "Offers good...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The single-vineyard 2008 Cortona Syrah Migliara fleshes out beautifully in the glass with layers of dark red fruit that fill out the wine’s broad shouldered frame nicely. The Migliara is at once more perfumed and higher toned than Il Bosco, with an expression of fruit that tends towards the red end of the spectrum. Fine, polished tannins round out the creamy finish. Here, too, the wine remains extremely primary with little in the way of aromatic development or complexity at this early stage. A small amount of Vio...

2008 Mastroberardino Radici "Antonio" Taurasi Riserva
Back In Stock!
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Taurasi Radici Riserva Antonio is a one-off wine made only this vintage to celebrate the incredible life and influence of Antonio Mastroberardino who passed away in January 2014. The wine is made only with fruit from the Montemarano vineyard and it ages in wood for 30 months (40% sees botte grande and 60% goes into barrique). This is a beautifully polished and sophisticated wine with a deep, dark color and an impressively silky quality to the tannins. The bouquet shows ethereal tones of dried earth, rose...

2008 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
Back In Stock!
95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An exceptionally densely fruited nose that is intensely floral and nuanced with stone, spice and soft earth hints complements to perfection the impressively concentrated medium weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract such that the very firm tannins are rendered almost invisible at present though I suspect that they will become more visible as the baby fat recedes. This broad-scaled effort should age for up to a decade and last several more. Magnificent. The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynami...

2008 Domaine Jerome Chezeaux Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Rue de Chaux"
Back In Stock!
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Rue de Chaux is somewhat ethereal at first, but then fills out nicely on the mid-palate. Crushed flowers, mint, spices and berries are among the nuances that take shape in the glass. The finish is delicate and haunting. The Rue de Chaux is an understated wine built on elegance rather than power." (05/2011) K&L Notes: According to Allen Meadows: "Jérôme Chezeaux directs this 11.3 ha domaine, where he practices lutte raisonée (the philosophy of treating only against real rather than ant...

Show youth and finesse still. Wonderful elegance and beauty with richness. Drink now or hold. " (10/2012) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dark, full, generous and ripe to the far edge of elegance, this powerful Pinot is saturated with black fruits, annotated with fennel, pepper, smoke and espresso, the rich and varied flavors rolling right through a lush midpalate and on into a gently fa...

95 points James Suckling: "Wow. This is really powerful, with aromas of blueberries and blackberries and hints of spices. Then there is an earthy, meaty undertone. Full body, with velvety tannins and a fruity finish. Focused and solid. Very structured. Best in 2015." (08/2011) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Orma is striking in this vintage. An exciting array of dark fruit, chocolate, spices and leather emerges from this dense, vibrant wine. A powerful underlying vein of minerality frames the wine all the way through to the fresh, vi...

96 points Decanter: "An undramatic, cloud-filled season came right in a late harvest in October. A textbook cool vintage of great ageing potential. The perfect 50/50 balance of mineral-stamped Chardonnay and powerful, masculine Pinot makes this a champagne for patient drinkers, as it will take time to reach its peak. Vibrant acidity is joined by notes of white flowers and that magnificent mineral structure. (ME)" (06/2018) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Packed with fruit while hinting at mature toastiness, this wine is now in perfect balance. Its white fr...

2008 Fontodi "Vigna del Sorbo" Chianti Classico Riserva
Back In Stock!
96 points Vinous: "Dark cherry, plum, graphite and savory herb notes flesh out in the 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo. Here the greater presence of Cabernet Sauvignon versus the earlier vintages in the tasting is clearly felt in the wine's structure, depth and pure power. Cassis, mint and layers of black fruit inform the finish. The 2008 is going to require a few more years in bottle but it is striking, even today. Over the last two years, the 2008 has developed beautifully. The fruit has begun to blossom, giving the 2008 a sense of mid-pal...

The tannins have just a touch of toast, but essentially come from the dense fruit. (RV)" (04/2009) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another sleeper of the vintage, the relatively evolved, elegant, complex 2008 Haut-Bergey offers up notes of smoked tobacco, cassis, cherries, licorice, Asian plum sauce and spice box. 2008 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien
Back In Stock!
95 points John Gilman: "The 2008 Ducru-Beaucaillou is one of the top wines of the vintage and a stellar bottle in the making. The wine delivers a truly stunning bouquet, as it soars from the glass in a mélange of cassis, dark berries, French roast, tobacco leaf, a complex base of gravelly soil tones and a deft framing of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full and wonderfully suave on the attack, with a sappy core of fruit, ripe, perfectly-integrated tannins and great length and grip on the nascently complex finish. While Ducru has produced exemplary...

2008 Domaine Gerard Raphet Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
New!
90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet touch of wood frames fresh red pinot and raspberry fruit aromas trimmed in noticeable warm earth nuances that continue onto the sappy and highly accessible middle weight flavors that are utterly delicious yet there is enough material to suggest a few years of upside. This is very Raphet in style as it's delicate and elegant yet with enough complexity to be interesting. Drink: 2013+" (01/2010)

2008 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac
Back In Stock!
94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A magnificent sleeper of the vintage, the 2008 Duhart Milon is the shrewd consumer’s wine to purchase by the case as prices do not yet reflect its qualitative resurgence. Composed of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot that came in at 13.09% alcohol, it is a surprisingly intense effort displaying a marvelous texture, plenty of black currant, licorice, unsmoked cigar tobacco and earthy characteristics, a full-bodied mouthfeel and stunning purity as well as density. 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Very deep garnet-purple in color the 2008 Grange reveals a truly decadent nose with tons of spices, fruit cake and black & blue fruit compote notes along with nuances of chocolate and potpourri. The full and rich, multi-layered palate has a little oak still showing, it is going through a little bit of a structural stand-out stage, but it doesn't detract on the long and complex finish. It still needs a good few years to develop, though this very opulent, expressive Grange shows the very best of this vintage and t...

99 points James Suckling: "This is an absolutely fabulous red, with incredible concentration but polish and refinement. It’s full-bodied, with wonderful depth of fruit and length. Complex, with minerals, dark fruits, plums and currants. Speechless. It sends chills up my spine. What a wine. It goes on for minutes. Hard to believe that it’s better than the 2007, but it is." (09/2014) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barolo Riserva Rüncot is an exceptional wine that is only made in the best years. It was produced in 2008, 2010 and 2013. ...

91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Moderate wood influence does not dominate the notably ripe purple and blue fruit nose laced with plenty of earth and humus notes that continue onto the fresh, intense and overtly muscular big-bodied flavors that are also quite powerful and culminate in a palate staining finish. This is very Corton in 2008 though not rustic." (01/2010) 91 points John Gilman: "The 2008 Corton was still in cask awaiting bottling at the time of my visit. The bouquet is deep, complex and very vibrant, as it jumps from the glass in a ...

Wine Spectator: "Aromas of melted black licorice, dried currant, sage, herb and cedar are firm and focused, full-bodied and restrained, yet deep and complex. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Justin "Isosceles" Paso Robles Bordeaux Blend (94JS). James Suckling: "I really like the balance and subtle fruit in this red with currants, spices and light coffee aromas and flavors. Silky textured finish. Hazelnut and fruit on the finish. Harmonious wine. Made from 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot." (11/2011)
Starting Bid: $165.00

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94VN, 93RP, 93WS, 91CG). Vinous: "Dark, bright ruby-red, showing virtually no evolution at the rim. The nose offers complex, musky scents of dark plum, mocha and graphite, plus a suggestion of tobacco. At once compellingly generous, shapely and firm, this seamless wine is remarkably balanced for its extreme growing season, offering sound framing acidity and beautifully incorporated oak. The explosive finish deliver terrific energy and harmonious tannins. This gives pleasure now but should evolve in bottle for another 15 to 20 years. Incidentally, this was the first Georges de Latour made in Beaulieu's new dedicated facility. (ST)" (04/2019)
Starting Bid: $82.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 ZD Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94WE, 90CG). Wine Enthusiast: " Here's one for the cellar. It's an intense, massively concentrated wine, packed with blackberry, black currant, dark chocolate and crême de cassis flavors. If that sounds delicious, it is, and the tannins are as fine and complicated as Napa gets. So tasty now, you can drink it with a great steak, and should easily develop bottle complexity over the next 8–10 years, perhaps much longer. " (12/2011)
Starting Bid: $130.00

Bid on this bottle of 2008 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grand Cru "La Tâche" (98DC, 97RP, 96BH, 95JG, 95ST, 95WS). Decanter: "Full colour. Splendidly opulent nose. Rich and succulent. Very good tannins. Rather more integrated and sophisticated than the Richebourg. Very lovely fruit, and very finely balanced. A slight touch of mint at the end. Very long. Very fine indeed. (CC)" (02/2018)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "B 20" & "The Duel" Sta. Rita Hills Tasting Lot, including 1-bottle of 2008 Sine Qua Non "B 20" California Syrah (97JD, 95RP, 94JS, 94ST, 93WS) and 1-bottle of 2008 Sine Qua Non "The Duel" Sta. Rita Hills Grenache (98JD, 97RP, 95VN). Of the 2008 Sine Qua Non "The Duel" Sta. Rita Hills Grenache,Jeb Dunnuck writes: "A thrilling Grenache that has an almost Janasse Vieille Vignes like aromatic profile, the 2008 Sine Qua Non Grenache The Duel is a blend of 82% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 2% Viognier, and 2% Roussanne, all from the estate’s Eleven Confessions vineyard, that was fermented with 32% whole cluster and aged in a scant 15% new French oak.
