2008 Philippe Gonet "Cuvée Belemnita" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Top Pick!
This wine comes from one plot of Chardonnay in the world-famous village of Mesnil, a plot planted by the great-grandfather of Chantal and Pierre Gonet (the current proprietors) back in 1929. The vines go deep into the Belemnita soil that gives this cuvée its name. This is the best chalk in all of Champagne, full of fossilized shellfish, many of which are now extinct, but so common in Mesnil that you can fill your pockets with them after a short tour of the vineyard. Cuvée Belemnita is the product of a single press load. Only 2,700 bottles were made, and ...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "While still young, this Champagne has all the makings of greatness. Produced from grand cru vineyards, it already balances ripe white fruits with a firm structure that will age well. It’s relatively dry and has plenty of acidity, which will also aid in the longevity.. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (12/2019) K&L Notes: This all Grand Cru blend, which is composed of 50% each Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, is the best I have ever tasted from Laurent-Perrier, and should go the distance if you decide to cellar it. Don't miss this fantasti...

2008 Buty Columbia Valley White Bordeaux Blend (Previously $25) (Previously $25)
New!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Beautifully floral, fragrant and evocative, with lush and complex aromas of honeycomb, cracker and citrus, carrying into the mouth with rich, bright, detailed flavors. Stone and mineral elements are woven throughout, and the barrel fermentation adds hints of toast. *Editors' Choice* (PG)" (03/2010) K&L Notes: 69% Sémillon, 26% Sauvignon and 5% Muscadelle

2008 Michel Arnould "Cuvée B 50" Brut Champagne
Back In Stock!
If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger and Krug in the past, we think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzenay. Verzenay is the northernmost of all the Grand Crus in this northernmost of French wine regions. The whole village faces north, the wrong way, away from the sun, and yet miraculously ripens Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Some say it's because of a meteor tha...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Solid wine, dark, firm and powerful. The black currant fruits shear through the tannic texture, giving a wine that is juicy, fresh, structured and definitely for aging. (RV)" (04/2011) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This stunning, evolved, dark plum/ruby-hued 2008 reveals aromas of forest floor, sweet black and red currants, licorice and roasted herbs. Classic, elegant and medium to full-bodied, it provides a sexy, complex, intellectual as well as hedonistic turn-on. Drink this delicious Margaux over the next 12-1...

91 points Wine Spectator: "Another winning 2008 St.-Julien, with the appellation's telltale beam of black currant, fig and anise wrapped with charcoal and espresso notes. There's serious grip. Needs some time. (JM)" (04/2011) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This potential sleeper of the vintage has come around nicely now that it is in bottle. Elegant yet substantial, it exhibits a dense purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of black currants, cassis, cedarwood, herbs, toast and loamy soil undertones. Medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin ...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The current vintage of the special cuvée is the 2008 Kripta, a classical blend of the local grapes Macabeo, Xarello and Parellada aged in contact with the lees in bottle for a long time, no less than five years, during which time the bottle is closed with a cork (it's usually a crown stopper). Apparently this gives the wine a different character and is the way it was traditionally done. This is a polished Cava with yeast and brioche aromas and a soft palate with clean, developed flavors and integrated acidity. A ...

95 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried fruit with plum, light raisin, chocolate and toasted oak. Some balsamic undertones. White truffles and dried flowers. Medium body, creamy tannins and savory, balsamic undertones. Extreme and unique, as always." (11/2020) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The nose of the 2008 Viña Tondonia Reserva is very elegant, fresh and with an herbal twist, starting to show the complexity of the aged wines that are sometimes still too young when they are released 10+ years from the vintage! The palate is medium-bodie...

96 points Decanter: "An undramatic, cloud-filled season came right in a late harvest in October. A textbook cool vintage of great ageing potential. The perfect 50/50 balance of mineral-stamped Chardonnay and powerful, masculine Pinot makes this a champagne for patient drinkers, as it will take time to reach its peak. Vibrant acidity is joined by notes of white flowers and that magnificent mineral structure. (ME)" (06/2018) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Packed with fruit while hinting at mature toastiness, this wine is now in perfect balance. Its white fr...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a woody, toasty wine, which seems to be the style here for the last several years. It has weight, but does need time for the wood to subside and bring out the elegant fruits." (04/11) According to Robert Parker: " A distinctive earthy, spicy character along with hints of camphor, black currants and raspberries emerge from this medium-bodied 2008. Soft tannins, a seductive mouthfeel and surprising length suggest this wine can be drunk now and over the next decade." (05/11) According to the Wine Spectator: "Offers good...

95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An exceptionally densely fruited nose that is intensely floral and nuanced with stone, spice and soft earth hints complements to perfection the impressively concentrated medium weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract such that the very firm tannins are rendered almost invisible at present though I suspect that they will become more visible as the baby fat recedes. This broad-scaled effort should age for up to a decade and last several more. Magnificent. The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynami...

2008 Buty "Columbia Rediviva" Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah (Previously $50) (Previously $50)
Back In Stock!
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Syrah—this is a focused wine, with complex nuances of licorice, tar, mineral and lead pencil, but it is buttressed by the compact, concentrated red and black fruits. The dusty tannins are reminiscent of a Napa wine, with excellent length and polish. *Cellar Selection* (PG)" (07/2012) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Dense and focused, with fine, chewy tannins around a core of savory cherry, plum and herb flavors, hinting at game bird and fresh mushroom as the finish lingers expressively. 2008 Buty (Connor Lee - Champoux Vineyards) Columbia Valley Merlot - Cabernet Franc (Previously $40) (Previously $40)
New!
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Buty's Right Bank-ish Merlot/Cab Franc is wild and slightly brambly, with dark streaks of iron and pencil lead, moist earth and herb. Hints of green coffee creep into the finish; this is most definitely a red wine from a cooler site in a cooler vintage, but with the classic structure of Bordeaux. (PG)" (08/2010) K&L Notes: This wine is a blend of 79% Merlot from the Connor Lee Vineyard and 21% Cabernet Franc from Champoux Vineyard.

93 points Decanter: "The aromas are quietly enticing, subtle and savoury. Some blackberry and black cherry fruit overlies the wine’s closely woven, structured, satisfying flavours. There’s nothing ostentatiously voluptuous or sweet about this Bordeaux blend; instead it puts you in mind of field and forest. (AJ)" (09/2016) K&L Notes: Completely sourced from Cain's Spring Mountain estate vineyard, the 2008 Five is a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot.
Price: $134.95

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A deft, indeed almost invisible, touch of wood sets off even more complex aromas of spicy red Pinot fruit and warm earth nuances that also suffuse the concentrated, intense and powerful big-bodied flavors that are supported by distinctly firm tannins and a much more overt sense of austerity on the strikingly long finish. This is built to age and will probably outlive the Home...The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynamically farmed fruit and owner Kevin Harvey and winemaker Jeff Brinkman continue to d...
