2008 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvée Elisabeth" Brut Rosé Champagne
Top Pick!
98 points Decanter: "A superb vintage of this renowned prestige cuvée, this is made from a base of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, to which is added 9% of red wine. Despite ageing on its lees for 10 years, it remains almost shockingly youthful, its vividly primary flavours of red cherry, strawberry and nectarine wrapped up in a taut, tense frame. It’s silky in texture and intricately complex on the long, elegantly harmonious finish, underlined by a saline chalkiness, and it demonstrates all the requisite completeness and character for long ageing, pro...

2008 Piper-Heidsieck "Cuvée Rare" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
97 points Wine Spectator: "Like a stallion out of the gate, this shows an initial explosion of power, in the form of mouthwatering flavors and fine texture, before quickly settling into an elegant gait. The racy acidity is seamlessly knit, buoying the lacy mousse and flavors of cassis, toasted brioche and tangerine, with accents of candied ginger, hazelnut and fleur de sel lingering on the long, creamy finish. (AN)" (12/2020) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The newly released 2008 Brut Cuvée Rare is very promising, unwinding in the glass with...

98 points Decanter: "Ridge has long created a Californian classic; that broke all the rules – a Cabernet based wine grown not in Napa but on greenstone- and limestone-rich soils in the remote corners of the Santa Cruz Mountains, aged not in French oak but American. (Though Paul Draper asserts Bordeaux’s use of French oak is a post-World War I turn.) The Merlot comes from plots on heavier soils. It accounts for 28% of the 2008 which, coming after two drought years, shows great meatiness. Amid the youthful oak toast is black tea, anise, cedar shavings and ...

89-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a single grower, but representing for its cru the considerable sum of 9 barrels, Maison Potel’s 2008 Mazoyeres Chambertin smells penetratingly of kirsch, cherry jam, eucalyptus, and incense. Sweetly-fruited, sappy, and expansive on the palate, its underlying tannins come to the fore in a slightly rustic manner in the finish, which however is still impressively gripping, energetic, and intensely fruited as well as pungently herbal. This ought to merit at least a decade of cellaring, though I would want to ...

94 points Wine Spectator: "*Collectibles* Shows very impressive depth and concentration for the vintage, delivering brooding espresso, baker's chocolate, charcoal and singed iron notes intertwined with roasted fig and steeped plum fruit. A smoldering bay leaf edge lingers on the very grippy finish. A superb effort in a difficult year. Best from 2013 through 2027. " (09/2012) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Although harder edged than normal, it possesses loads of concentration along with abundant notes of roasted herbs, coffee, charcuterie,...

94 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Ripe and rich, concentrated and mannerly at one and the same time, this attractive wine splits the difference between the direct, deep reach of the Litton Estate bottling and the greater elegance of the Allen Vineyard version. It is a touch rounded to start, then firms up across the palate and tightens in the finish. It will benefit from a few years in the cellar and is sure to find a rich, supple stance over time. *Two Stars* " (02/2011) 94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Explosive aromas of strawberr...

93 points Decanter: "The aromas are quietly enticing, subtle and savoury. Some blackberry and black cherry fruit overlies the wine’s closely woven, structured, satisfying flavours. There’s nothing ostentatiously voluptuous or sweet about this Bordeaux blend; instead it puts you in mind of field and forest. (AJ)" (09/2016) K&L Notes: Completely sourced from Cain's Spring Mountain estate vineyard, the 2008 Five is a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot.

95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An exceptionally densely fruited nose that is intensely floral and nuanced with stone, spice and soft earth hints complements to perfection the impressively concentrated medium weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract such that the very firm tannins are rendered almost invisible at present though I suspect that they will become more visible as the baby fat recedes. This broad-scaled effort should age for up to a decade and last several more. Magnificent. The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynami...

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red fruits, licorice and spicy oak lifted by orange zest, minerals, mint and a whiff of rhubarb. Densely packed and plump, with a breadth of texture that belies its modest alcohol level. Boasts excellent red berry energy and sap; there's a crushed fruit quality here that reminded me of Chambolle. The long, rising finish is sweet but quite firm, with plenty of fruit tannins to support the 100% new oak treatment. This fascinating and satisfying wine made the Occidental Vineyard wine seem soft by compar...

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby. Compelling aromas of red berry preserves, smoky minerality, cocoa powder and white pepper, with a sexy note of incense in the background. Dense but tightly coiled, with zesty acidity giving shape and grip to the raspberry, rose and spicecake flavors. A wine of noteworthy finesse as well as power, finishing with excellent cut. This 1.5 acre vineyard is planted to 22 different clones, all on their own roots." (06/2011)

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A more elegant and refined nose places perhaps even more emphasis on the floral component found in all of the Rhys wines that gives way to highly complex and equally refined middle weight flavors that are quite classy and while there is no lack of power or structure, the tannins are finer, all wrapped in a stunningly long and mineral-infused finish. A very stylish effort that should reward medium to long-term cellaring. *Outstanding*" (10/2010) 94 points John Gilman: "As I reported in October, the 2008 Skyline Vine...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Sweet cherry and berry aromas are accented by rose and spice in this supple, charming red, which is elegant, despite a base of muscular tannins. Features earth and mineral components on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2028. (BS)" (05/2011) 91-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From three barrels reflecting parcels on the top and in the middle of this famous enclave (purchased as juice, although beginning in 2009, Gambal will get some grapes) his 2008 Clos Vougeot displays intriguingly woodsy and red berry aromas, a ...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "The Line" California Grenache (98JD, 98RP, 97VN, 95JS, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine was just released in April of this year, and is a blend of 87.5% Grenache, 11% Syrah, and 1.5% Viognier, with 21% whole clusters used in the Grenache component. Seventy-eight percent of it came from the 11 Confessions Vineyard and the balance from Bien Nacido and the White Hawk. It is no measly wine at 15.5% alcohol, but it displays extraordinary berry fruit and kirsch notes intermixed with lavender and other floral components. Intense, full-bodied, voluptuously textured, and stunningly pure, with no real noticeable oak (21% new French oak was used, most of it the larger demi-muids), this beauty has put on weight and is showing additional complexity since I first tasted it. (RP)" (08/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Produttori del Barbaresco "Montestefano" Barbaresco Riserva (95RP, 94W&S, 93ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is exquisite and harmonious from start to finish. Among the more structured 2008s, the Montestefano is the wine that most hides its tannin, as the fruit is intensely perfumed, rich and totally seductive. Today the Montestefano provides the illusion of being relatively accessible, but it is virtually certain to shut down in bottle. The 2008 boasts striking aromatics, seemingly endless layers of fruit and power to burn. Readers can think of the Montestefano as a synthesis of Montefico, Ovello and Rabaja. Not bad, to say the least. (AG) 95+" (10/2012)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Montrose, St-Estèphe (95DC, 95JS, 94JG, 94RP, 94VN, 94WE, 91WS). James Suckling: "The purity and precision in this wine is very exciting. Medium to full body, firm and chewy tannins and a long finish of currant and spice. Black tea and bark too." (06/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Andre Ziltener Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru. Château André Ziltener is a necogiant, sourcing fruit from longstanding grower contracts in some of the top Burgundy appellations.
Starting Bid: $100.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Tenuta Sette Ponti "Oreno" Toscana (96JS, 96RP, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Oreno is stunningly beautiful. An open, expressive bouquet laced with mint, red berries, roses and spices emerges with superb clarity and balance. The tension between the minerality of the vintage and the rich expression of fruit that is one of the house’s hallmarks play off each other beautifully here. The finish is utterly exquisite in its beguiling beauty. The 2008 isn’t the most powerful Oreno ever made, but it is quite possibly the most elegant, impeccably refined wine I have ever tasted here. Simply put, it is fabulous juice! In 2008 the percentage of Sangiovese is way down and Oreno is predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, a decision that has paid off handsomely. (AG)" (10/2010)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Sérafin Père et Fils Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (93BH, 93ST, 93WS, (91-92RP)). Wine Spectator: "Here's a fresh, vibrant red, with juicy cherry, raspberry and spice flavors that resonate on the palate. Seemingly electric, this has an undercurrent of mineral and ends with a kaleidoscope of berry and spice notes. (BS)" (02/2012)
Starting Bid: $270.00

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Cherbaudes" Vieille Vigne ((89-92BH), 90RP, 90ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An elegant, complex and relatively refined nose speaks of red and blue Pinot fruit, plum and plenty of Gevrey style earth notes that are also reflected by the rich yet beautifully detailed flavors that also possess a lovely mouth feel on the firm finish that is supported by dense but fine tannins. A sophisticated 1er. *Sweet Spot Outstanding*" (01/2010)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2008 Quilceda Creek "Palengat Vineyard" Horse Heaven Hills Bordeaux Blend (97RP, 94ST, 93WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Palengat Proprietary Red Wine is made up of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, with the balance Merlot and Petit Verdot. The fruit was sourced entirely from the Palengat Vineyard. Pain grille, pencil lead, Asian spices, incense, violets, dried herbs, black currant, and blackberry aromas compose the bouquet of this impeccably balanced offering. It opens in the glass to reveal plush, succulent flavors, superb concentration, plenty of ripe tannin, and at least 4-5 years of aging potential. It will deliver optimum drinking from 2015 to 2028. (JM)" (08/2011)
Starting Bid: $280.00

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Malconsorts" (94ST, 93BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium-deep red. Ripe aromas of raspberry, licorice and smoked meat, with deeper-pitched soil tones adding nuance. Like liquid velvet in the mouth, conveying an impression of huge volume without heaviness. Not showing its treble notes now but this expands in the mouth and explodes on the palate-staining finish. (ST) 94+" (03/2011)
Starting Bid: $525.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Léoville Las Cases, St-Julien (96VN, 95JD, 95WE, 94DC, 94WS, 93ST). Vinous: "The 2008 Léoville Las Cases has a backward, broody, earthy bouquet with intense tobacco and graphite aromas, more like a Pauillac than a Saint Julien, no surprise given that it lies on the border. The palate is very impressive: layers of tobacco-tinged black fruit, sea salt and graphite. This is very precise and harmonious with a persistent and multi-layered finish that leaves you mightily impressed. (NM)" (02/2018)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Carter "Beckstoffer To-Kalon" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (93ST, 93WE, 92RP, 92WS). Wine Enthusiast: "Class shows in this dry, tannic, elegantly structured Cabernet. The pedigree of its terroir shows in the perfectly smooth tannins and overall balance. Flavors of blackberries and black currants perfectly mix with new French oak. The vintage was not Napa's finest, and the wine is just a bit short, but extraordinarily refined." (08/2011)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98JD, 98RP, 97WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 James Berry Vineyard (52% Grenache, 31% Mourvèdre, and 17% Syrah) saw some of its Grenache aged in the concrete eggs that are now catching on among some of the top producers on California’s Central Coast. With strong minerality from the limestone soil, this exuberant, fleshy, full-bodied wine is already drinking well. (I believe it was actually bottled just a day or two before my visit, which makes its performance that much more remarkable.) Dense purple, with sweet notes of barbecue smoke and meats as well as roasted herbs, extravagant black cherry, black currant, and blackberry fruit are all present in this wine, but there is plenty of underlying structure that comes from both the minerality and the Mourvedre component. (RP)" (08/2010)
Starting Bid: $120.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (100JD, 100JS, 99DC, 99JG, 99VN, 98RP, 98WE, 97WS). James Suckling: "Disgorged October 2016 and will be the first Cristal to be released ten years from harvest when it is offered in 2018. 35 parcels used from a possible 45 in this vintage. The assemblage is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. This is so fresh and tense and mineral with extremely exuberant Chardonnay notes on the nose of white peach, lemon and yellow grapefruit, and hints of almost brambly sous bois aromas. The yeast characters are also super fresh, and there are subtle woody notes, with a hint of vanilla bean and light spices. " (10/2019)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Veuve Clicquot "La Grande Dame" Brut Champagne (97DC, 95W&S, 95WS). Decanter: "Now almost blanc de noirs, boasting 92% Pinot Noir and just 8% Chardonnay from 60%-70% estate vineyards. La Grande Dame is one of the most affordable of Champagne’s elite prestige set, and the stunning 2008 vintage was intricately engineered by the masterful Dominique Demarville for the long haul. It unites all of the enduring potential of its thundering grands crus with the tension and energy of this legendary season, colliding high-tensile acidity with deep, fine, powdery chalk minerality, bringing its finish into stark focus. (TS)" (08/2020)
