2008 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvée Elisabeth" Brut Rosé Champagne
Top Pick!
98 points Decanter: "Despite ageing on its lees for 10 years, it remains almost shockingly youthful, its vividly primary flavours of red cherry, strawberry and nectarine wrapped up in a taut, tense frame. It’s silky in texture and intricately complex on the long, elegantly harmonious finish, underlined by a saline chalkiness, and it demonstrates all the requisite completeness and character for long ageing, promising a slow and dignified evolution to come. (PL)" (05/2021) 98 points James Suckling: "This is very vinous with aromas of iron, strawberries, ...

2008 Piper-Heidsieck "Cuvée Rare" Brut Champagne
Top Pick!
97 points Wine Spectator: "Like a stallion out of the gate, this shows an initial explosion of power, in the form of mouthwatering flavors and fine texture, before quickly settling into an elegant gait. The racy acidity is seamlessly knit, buoying the lacy mousse and flavors of cassis, toasted brioche and tangerine, with accents of candied ginger, hazelnut and fleur de sel lingering on the long, creamy finish. (AN)" (12/2020) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The newly released 2008 Brut Cuvée Rare is very promising, unwinding in the glass with...

2008 Zýme "La Mattonara" Amarone della Valpocella Classico Riserva (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98 points Vinous: "The 2008 Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva La Mattonara keeps you at the edge of the glass, as it opens up in layers, showing dried cherries, currants and hints of pine. Further coaxing brings forward savory smoke followed by crushed blackberries, cinnamon, clove and candied citrus. The textures are like pure silk, slowly draped across the palate with a polished sheen, leaving ripe red and black fruits, mocha, sweet herbs and autumnal spice. You can feel the weight, yet the 2008 remains remarkably balanced, vibrant and flat-out delici...
Price: $349.99

93 points Decanter: "The aromas are quietly enticing, subtle and savoury. Some blackberry and black cherry fruit overlies the wine’s closely woven, structured, satisfying flavours. There’s nothing ostentatiously voluptuous or sweet about this Bordeaux blend; instead it puts you in mind of field and forest. (AJ)" (09/2016) K&L Notes: Completely sourced from Cain's Spring Mountain estate vineyard, the 2008 Five is a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot.

2008 Schrader "Beckstoffer To Kalon - CCS" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "For some reason I have a sweet spot for Schrader’s 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon CCS, which, like the 2007, merits a perfect rating. That should set up some very interesting competitive tastings in the future. Made from a particular block of Clone 4 planted in the Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard, there is something just broader, deeper, more multidimensional and more subtle without losing any of the great intensity, purity and richness these wines possess that gives the CCS an amazing character. Keep in mind, as my edit...

2008 Schrader "Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008s were bottled in early summer, 2010. From the Beckstoffer Vineyard, the opaque blue/purple-colored 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon George III Clone 337 rocks out of the glass with brilliant aromas of creme de cassis, Christmas fruitcake, cedarwood, licorice and incense. The wine is deep, full-bodied, dense and concentrated with outstanding purity, texture and length. It is approachable now (one of the seductive characteristics of these wines) yet is capable of lasting 25 or more years. (RP)" (12/2010) 97 point...

2008 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
98 points Decanter: "Ridge has long created a Californian classic; that broke all the rules – a Cabernet based wine grown not in Napa but on greenstone- and limestone-rich soils in the remote corners of the Santa Cruz Mountains, aged not in French oak but American. (Though Paul Draper asserts Bordeaux’s use of French oak is a post-World War I turn.) The Merlot comes from plots on heavier soils. It accounts for 28% of the 2008 which, coming after two drought years, shows great meatiness. Amid the youthful oak toast is black tea, anise, cedar shavings and ...

2008 Schrader "Beckstoffer To Kalon" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Schrader, which comes from Clones 4, 6 and 337, is slightly more structured and perhaps not as velvety as the CCS or RBS. Again, blue fruits, black fruits, camphor, charcoal and burning ember characteristics are presented in a full-bodied, powerful style that balances intensity with elegance and an uncanny equilibrium. This is another stunning wine that should benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring and keep for 25-30+ years. (RP) 98+" (12/2010) 98 points Wine Spectator: "Deep, rich, pur...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Pale ruby, the 2008 Pinot Noir Diane Cobb Coastlands Vineyard is fully mature and very pretty, with alluring notes of pipe tobacco, iron shavings, woodsmoke, tea leaves and sweet blackberries. The light-bodied palate is surprisingly concentrated, with mineral-laced fruits in a dusty, seamless frame, and it finishes long and detailed. (EB)" (11/2020)
Price: $109.99

96 points Vinous: "The 2008 Barolo La Serra emerges from the glass with dark red fruit, tar, smoke, licorice, spices and new leather. Today the 2008 comes across as surprisingly dark and masculine. The high-toned floral notes that are typical of this site have been replaced by a much darker, brooding register filled with tar, incense and black fruit notes. The wine freshens up beautifully with time in the glass as the aromatics become a bit more expressive. Voerzio's 2008 La Serra is a huge and hugely promising wine. The firm tannins argue for at least a...

Bid on this 6 liter of 2008 Paraduxx Napa Valley Red Blend (6L). This blend of 68% Zinfandel, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc was aged in a combination of partial new French (80%) and American (20%) oak. Duckhorn's second label, Paraduxx's flagship red blend is a plush, medium-bodied offering presenting a delightful mix of raspberry, black cherry, and cassis with exotic spice accents in nose, underscored by hints of dark chocolate and sweet tobacco. Cabernet adds depth and structure to Zin's fruitiness and spice, for a wine that is full in the mouth with velvety tannins.
Starting Bid: $210.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Castello dei Rampolla "Vigna d'Alceo" Toscana (100JS, 96RP, 96VN). James Suckling: "Love this. Fabulous aromas of currants and blackberries. Hints of licorice, Indian spices and dried violets. Full-bodied, ultra-fine tannins and amazing fruit, yet so vibrant, racy and balanced. The structure of Margaux with the style of Rampolla. Best ever. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. From organically grown grapes. Leave it for at least five or six years." (12/2012)
Starting Bid: $220.00

Bid on this 6 liter of 2008 Duckhorn Napa Valley Merlot (6L) (92WE, 90CG). Wine Enthusiast: "Astringently tannic, as Duckhorn's new red wines tend to be, but very rich, very ripe, and sweet enough in fruit and oak to drink now with a nice steak. Floods the mouth with blackberries, cassis, chocolate, violets, mushu plum sauce, licorice and cedar. " (06/2009)
Starting Bid: $500.00

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Chateau Rayas "Réserve" Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc (92WS). Wine Spectator: "A nutty, old-school style, with a broad, creamy feel that allows the creamed Cavaillon melon, salted butter, dried apricot and star fruit notes to sail along. Lightly toasted almond and paraffin accents glide through the finish. (JM)" (10/2013)
Starting Bid: $445.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (95JD, 94DC, 94WE, 93JS, 93RP, 92CG, 92ST, 91VN, 91WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "A gorgeous perfume of blackcurrants, chocolate, tobacco leaf, and gravelly minerality emerges from the 2008 Domaine de Chevalier, which is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and hit 13.5% natural alcohol. It’s broad, full-bodied, and seamless on the palate, and is a beautiful, beautiful wine that stretches out nicely on the finish. This is classic Graves! " (02/2019)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2008 Alban "Reva" Edna Valley Syrah (96JD, (95-96JS), 96RP, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Reva (Syrah) is stunningly beautiful. This is a relatively delicate, feminine Reva that impresses for its length, balance and utter purity of fruit. Dark red cherries, flowers, mint and silky, saline notes wrap around the expressive fruit on the long, polished finish. A hint of truffles adds to the wine’s sensual, totally beguiling personality. In 2008, the Reva is drop-dead gorgeous. Readers should note that, in this vintage, there is no Lorraine or Seymour’s, so the 2008 is a 'super-Reva!' (AG) 96+" (08/2012)
Starting Bid: $385.01

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Giuseppe e Figlio Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo (95ST, 95VN, 95WS). Vinous: "Mauro Mascarello’s 2008 Barolo Monprivato is a much more lifted and translucent wine than the 2006 Le Vigne. A wine that needs considerable air, the 2008 only starts to blossom with a few hours in the glass. Monprivato is often quirky, but the 2008 is a real moving target. Just this week alone I have tasted six bottles of the 2008 and found the wine a bit all over the place, especially compared to other wines from the same year. Still, with patience, the 2008 really sings. Ideally, readers should plan on cellaring the 2008 for at least another few years. (AG) 95+ " (11/2014)
Starting Bid: $165.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "The Line" California Grenache (98JD, 98RP, 97VN, 95JS, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine was just released in April of this year, and is a blend of 87.5% Grenache, 11% Syrah, and 1.5% Viognier, with 21% whole clusters used in the Grenache component. Seventy-eight percent of it came from the 11 Confessions Vineyard and the balance from Bien Nacido and the White Hawk. It is no measly wine at 15.5% alcohol, but it displays extraordinary berry fruit and kirsch notes intermixed with lavender and other floral components. Intense, full-bodied, voluptuously textured, and stunningly pure, with no real noticeable oak (21% new French oak was used, most of it the larger demi-muids), this beauty has put on weight and is showing additional complexity since I first tasted it. (RP)" (08/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Lucien Le Moine Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru "Les Vaucrains" ((93-94RP), (90-93ST), (89-92BH), 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The two barrels of Le Moine 2008 Nuits St.-Georges Les Vaucrains are memorably scented with game, smoky-sweet machine oil, hibiscus, heliotrope, and black raspberry preserves, which then inform a rich yet brightly and beautifully focused palate, leading to a finish of cut and complexity, its animal and mineral dimensions as fascinating as they are hard to pin-down in words. Overall, this silken-textured cru is more forward and winsome than its Les St.-Georges counterpart, and while I would not be surprised if it rewards two decades of cellaring, I suspect it will not insist on bottle aging. (DS)" (06/2010)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (96JD, 96RP, 95DC, 95WE, 94JS, 94ST, 92VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for the wine of the vintage, Pontet Canet’s 2008 boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious aromas of sweet blueberries, blackberries and black currant fruit intertwined with lead pencil shavings, subtle barbecue smoke and a hint of forest floor. Full-bodied, with fabulous richness, texture and tremendous freshness, this first-growth-like effort is more developed than the uber-powerful 2010. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following three decades. Bravo! (RP)" (05/2011)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (95JG, 95RP, 94JS, 94WE, 93VN, 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the stars of the vintage, and a remarkable achievement in 2008, with impressive richness, this dense purple colored wine is almost as opaque as the 2010. Spring flowers, crushed rocks, creme de cassis and some subtle oak are followed by a full-bodied, concentrated wine that transcends the vintage character in its power, richness, and aging potential. It also exhibits tremendous precision, purity, and depth of character. It is more forward than the 2010 is likely to be, but probably not as sumptuous as the 2009 will turn out to be. This is a wine to buy. (RP) 95+" (05/2011)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Melville "Carrie's" Sta Rita Hills Pinot Noir (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even greater – in fact, one of the best Pinot Noirs I tasted on my tour through the Central Coast – is Melville’s dark ruby/purple-colored 2008 Pinot Noir Carrie’s. Notes of forest floor interwoven with black raspberry, boysenberry, blueberry and sweet cherry, terrific texture, a dense, opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish make for a Pinot Noir that is a prodigious example of the Santa Rita Hills." (08/2010)
Starting Bid: $180.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Spottswoode "Family Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97JS, 94RP, 93DC, 93VN, 93WS). James Suckling: "A beautiful Cabernet nose with masses of black currants and sun baked stones. Full bodied, with heavy tannins and a big complex structure. The long finish rounds out this sleeping giant. Six to eight years from now this will be very ready to go. " (06/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Léoville Las Cases, St-Julien (96VN, 95JD, 95WE, 94DC, 94WS, 93ST). Vinous: "The 2008 Léoville Las Cases has a backward, broody, earthy bouquet with intense tobacco and graphite aromas, more like a Pauillac than a Saint Julien, no surprise given that it lies on the border. The palate is very impressive: layers of tobacco-tinged black fruit, sea salt and graphite. This is very precise and harmonious with a persistent and multi-layered finish that leaves you mightily impressed. (NM)" (02/2018)
