2005 Undisclosed Jamaica 17 Year Old "Golden Devil" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Jamaican Rum (700ml)
This phenomenal barrel of rum will forever be a mystery. Wild speculation exists about its source and the bottler has absolutely zero information from the source about its marque. Those circumstances are highly unusual considering the quality and character of the rum in question. But, if you notice similar batches out there, there are only a handful of distillers that could supply this rum. Worthy Park, we've had others from the vintage and they have always included the blenders marque. The distillery was only selling in bulk at the time and their stocks...

This exceptional find is one of the very best values K&L has ever been able to offer. Glenrothes is truly one of Speyside's most prized distillers, and its extremely unusual for them to let go of heavily sherried stocks, let alone something that's aged over 18 years. This one was distilled in February of 2005 and aged for 18 years in a first fill sherry butt. The results speak for themselves, a dense powerful malt style full of powerful spice and complex sherry. The Glenrothes Distillery was founded in the town of Rothes in 1879 by James Stuart & Co., ow...

92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel sample. There's great fruit here, lovely ripe dark plums and black cherry flavors pushing through the hugely sweet tannins. It's very opulent, a great full-fruited wine. (RV)" (06/2006) 92 points Wine & Spirits: "A gravel wash of tannin creates the structural base for this wine, spreading red currant and licorice root flavors through a long finish. The fruit is bold and supple, the mineral flavor providing tension that will sustain the wine as it ages over the next decade. For braised lamb." (10/2008) 90 points W...

Ledaig Single Malt is a cherished gem from the Hebridean Isles and comes from one of the oldest distilleries in all of Scotland. Produced on again, off again since its founding in 1798, and licensed since 1823, the Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull is known primarily for its two single malt marks. Tobermory, an unpeated dram and Ledaig, with its heavily peated characteristics. Both are widely regarded as malts of outstanding quality. Both malts owe their rich character to the unusual stills that lie at the heart of the distillery - bulbous stills ...

96 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Good bright, full red. Brooding aromas of medicinal blueberry and menthol lifted by brilliant high notes of rose petal, mace and minerals. Compellingly deep and young, even youthfully imploded today, but this already boasts brilliant detail and energy and an exhilarating high pitch. Penetrating, powerful blue fruits, graphite, flowers and minerals stain the palate with flavor and will not quit. A great Bonnes-Mares for the Musigny lover. Should gain in bottle for two decades and go on for another two. (ST) 96+" (04/2008) 9...

97 points Wine Advocate: "A blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah (any Mourvedre added to the Grenache is now a thing of the past), this wine, made totally from the 11 Confessions Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills, is young, yet like all the SQN wines, approachable in its glorious display of fruit, purity and freshness. Dense purple, and offering up notes of cranberries, pepper, boysenberries, raspberries and cherries, a cornucopia of red and black fruits emerge from the aromatics, gently dosed with some spicy oak and Provencal herbs. Full-bodied, gutsy and...

92 points Wine Advocate: "One of the strongest efforts I have ever tasted from Alain Vauthier, his small St.-Emilion estate, Moulin Saint-Georges, has turned in a gorgeous 2005 with an opaque purple color and a sweet nose of blueberry and black raspberry fruit along with spring flowers. (RP)" (06/2015) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Deep, dark ruby in color. Super concentrated aromas of crushed blackberry, black licorice, espresso and leather follow through to a full body, with ultrafine tannins and loads of coffee and fruit flavors. Very long. (JS)" (03/2...

100 points Wine Advocate: "From a hot vintage and incredible any way you look at it, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon has that laser-like focus of a cooler year, yet the voluptuousness and richness of a warmer year. Smoked black fruits, coffee, truffle and pen ink-like aromas and flavors all emerge from this massive, incredibly full-bodied effort and on the palate, it carries itself perfectly with a weightless, yet decadent texture, masses of polished tannin and blockbuster length. More classic and textbook than the 2007, it is every bit as good. (JD)" (06/20...

99 points James Suckling: "A stunningly complex and complete nose of flowers, dark fruits, and minerals. Very perfumed and subtle at the same time. The palate is full, yet tight and powerful with perfect tannins and a long, long finish. The quality of the tannins is phenomenal, please leave this alone for ten years. Pull the cork in 2020." (04/2012) 98 points Vinous: "A wine for the ages, the 2005 Léoville Las Cases is slow to come out of the gate, but its beauty and pedigree are evident. The 2005 Las Cases is one of the only wines in this tasting that...

98 points Wine Advocate: "Made from 100% Chardonnay from the Alban Vineyard, the 2005 Mr. K. The Nobleman possesses 235 grams of residual sugar per liter as well as exceptional acid levels. This incredibly rich, sweet white is almost like the Quintessence bottlings from Alsace’s Domaine Weinbach. Its mind-boggling purity, balance, intensity, and sweetness are balanced by the wine’s zesty acidity. An amazing achievement fashioned from 100% botrytised fruit, it will keep for 20 or more years. (RP)" (06/2008) 93 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Orange-gold colo...

100 points Jane Anson: "This is pure pleasure, with tiny pulses of electricity, brushed leather, sulphur, loam, truffle, blackberry, black cherry, with touches of silky tannins, smoked caramel and black chocolate. A wine that makes you smile, so much depth and power, barely out of its primary phase, but we are starting now to get the whole picture of what it will become. There is a lush edge to the tannins now that was not the case even two years ago. Such a different expression from the 2009 and 2010 Mouton, with this a little more old school in its cha...

94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Barolo Romirasco is a regal, aristocratic wine that embodies everything a great Barolo should be. The wine reveals awesome density and richness in layers of deeply spiced, mentholated dark fruit, flowers and minerals that continue to emerge from the glass in a never-ending display of sheer elegance and class. This is one of the few truly complete, multi-dimensional wines of the vintage. Today the wine comes across as exceedingly young, and some bottle age is essential in order to enjoy the wine at its very finest. This ...

92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Solo is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from their estate vineyards in Stags Leap. The color is a youthful ruby/purple. The wine has a juicy, luscious personality, with notes of spring flowers, blueberry and raspberry fruit and underbrush. It hits the palate with medium to full body, great freshness and precision as well as good acidity, a hallmark of this vintage. The finish is long, persistent, and the wine exuberant and youthful. Look for it to continue to evolve for another 15 or more years. (RP) " (06/2...

94 points Vinous: "The 2005 Grand Mayne has a broody bouquet, quite closed compared to the 2004 with black rather than red fruit, laced with chimney soot and tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, bold structure and superb acidity keeping everything tied together. Plenty of energy here, white pepper and clove notes towards the vibrant, Tuscan-tinged finish, completing one of the finest Grand Mayne releases in recent years. Superb. (NM)" (05/2021) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Big wood, big fruit--there are no half measures here....

96 points Wine Spectator: "Shows the great embedded structure of the vintage, with a strong graphite undertow pushing the layers of blackberry, boysenberry and plum fruit, while additional sweet spice, mocha and bittersweet cocoa notes fill in the background. Packed with fruit and terroir, with a gorgeous mouthfeel. (JM)" (10/2007) 94 points Vinous: "Deep red. Musky cherry and blackcurrant aromas are complicated by sassafras, garrigue and anise. Saturates the palate with suave red and dark berry preserve flavors, hints of candied licorice and lavender,...

98 points Jane Anson: "The last year for Montrose under the Charmolüe family, before the Bouygues bought in 2006. Inky plum in colour, moreish from the very first sip. So juicy, such well controlled extraction, balanced but intense and concentrated, with layers of still-vibrant cassis, bilberry, eucalyptus and cocoa bean. You can now clearly see where this is heading, but it will continue to build over the next few years, and then stay on the plateau for decades. " (06/2022) 98 points Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Montrose continues to show brilliantly, unw...

97 points Wine Spectator: "Exhibits blackberry, mineral, currant and dark chocolate. Full and velvety, with lots of fruit and chewy tannins. Long and caressing, with incredibly sweet fruit and tannins on the finish. Goes on for minutes. A thoroughly gorgeous wine. *Highly Recommended, Top 100 Wines of 2008* (JS)" (03/2008) 96 points Wine Advocate: "A beautiful wine, once again, from this property that has been on a superb qualitative roll for several decades. Dense ruby/purple with notes of graphite, background oak, youthful crème de cassis and blackbe...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Intense ripe berry and dried fruit on the nose, with rose petal. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a mahogany, fruity, almost nutty undertone. Ripe and round. Very soft and pretty. (BS)" (07/2009) 92 points Vinous: "(tasted from tank) Good deep red. Aromas of dark raspberry and mocha. At once rich and sweet and lively, from fruit picked quite early (and before the rain), with higher acidity than in 2004. Can't match the 2004 for fat or refinement of tannins, but there's lovely acid and mineral spine to the flavors of dark f...

95 points Robert Parker: "Along with the 2000, the 2005 is one of the two greatest d’Issans I have ever tasted. Kudos to proprietor Emmanuel Cruse for creating this beauty. Its dense purple hue is accompanied by aromas of camphor, forest floor, blackberries, cassis, and a hint of spring flowers. Full-bodied with superb richness, purity, texture, and abundant, sweet tannin, it should hit its stride in 3-4 years, and last for 25+. Bravo!" (04/08) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Displays blackberry and black licorice aromas, with some tar. Full-bodied, with ch...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2005 Château Haut-Bailly just continues to drink brilliantly, with a massive, rich, full-bodied style as well as the château’s inherent sense of elegance and finesse. Ripe red and black fruits, smoked tobacco, graphite, saddle leather, and floral notes all define this beauty, and it has flawless balance, ripe yet perfectly integrated tannins, and just a regal, seamless, utterly compelling profile that is such a joy to drink today. It has another two decades of prime drinking ahead of it." (04/2024)

99 points The Wine Independent: "The 2005 Smith Haut Lafitte rouge is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Medium to deep garnet-brick in color, it slips confidently out of the glass with notes of creme de cassis, baked plums, cracked black pepper, and pencil shavings, plus wafts of sandalwood and licorice. The medium to full-bodied palate is plush and juicy, featuring soft acidity and a long, beautifully poised finish. In a sweet spot for drinking now, this can cellar a further 20 years+. 90 points Wine Spectator: "This elegant wine offers light tannins and vibrant acidity swathed in a silky sheath, delivering dark, juicy red fruit flavors, with lots of kirsch and ripe cherry. Accents of sanguine, mineral, chocolate shavings and creamy espresso add complexity and linger on the finish. (AN)" (07/2011) Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a pretty, refined wine laced with perfumed dark fruit. This mid-weight Valpolicella offers excellent balance and a long, polished close. (AG)" (10/2009)

94 points Decanter: "Once again the 2005 vintage works its magic, and this is a standout wine. Menthol and fresh mint leaf notes are set against liquorice and cassis, with beautifully integrated tannins that retain their bite. It's an absolutely delicious wine full of St-Julien balance and elegance, but also with real depth and concentration. Château Talbot is still a classic rather than an overly powerful St-Julien, even in this vintage. Aged in 50% new oak. (JA)" (12/2017) 92 points Vinous: "The 2005 Talbot was picked from 22 September until 10 Octob...

94 points Decanter: " Classically ‘old-fashioned’ Rioja that has stuck to its 1877 roots. Fine natural warmth and smooth, slightly nutty flavours, lots of controlled energy and a firm finish. A really lovely wine. (SS)" (12/2018) 94 points James Suckling: "Lovely depth of fruit to this mature red with chocolate, dark tea and bark. Purple flowers and violets. Full and very silky and refined. A beautiful traditional wine to get to know." (11/2018) 94 points Vinous: "(R. Lopez De Heredia Viña Tondonia Reserva (rioja) Red) (aged for six years in American...

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Boyd-Cantenac, Margaux (92RP, 92WS). Wine Advocate: "This château, which is often under the radar (production is only 5, 500-6, 000 cases), has fashioned a terrific, inky/blue/purple-hued 2005 with a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers, crème de cassis, pain grille, and blueberries. Powerful and concentrated with full-bodied richness, stunning purity, and a tannic, 40+-second finish, this beauty requires patience. (RP)" (04/2008)

Bid on this 3 liter of 2005 Nicolas Potel Volnay Vieilles Vignes (3L) (90ST, 90WS). Wine Spectator: "Rich and full of cherry, raspberry and violet aromas and flavors. Of the 2005 Sine Qua Non "Atlantis Fe203-1c" California Syrah, Wine Advocate writes: "The perfect 2005 Syrah Atlantis Fe 203-1a, b, c is a blend of 93% Syrah, 5% Grenache, and 2% Viognier, with 25% whole clusters. Whereas the Ode to E is all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard, this cuvee is a combination of 43% from the estate vineyard, 28% from the White Hawk Vineyard, 21% from the Alban Vineyard, and 8% from the Bien Nacido Vineyard. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux (95RP, 94JA, 94VN, 94WE, 92DC, 92WS). Wine Advocate: "A sexy, style of wine from the Lurtons at Brane-Cantenac, this wine (a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc) has a stunning nose of forest floor, licorice, blackcurrants, plums and spring flowers. Soft tannin, full-bodied opulence and beautifully textured, lush richness, make for a brilliant wine from this large, 180-acre vineyard. In spite of the wine’s stunning forward fragrance and lushness, the color still looks as if it is 3-4 years old, rather than a decade. This is a big-time winner in 2005 and should drink well for at least another 25+ years. (RP)" (06/2015)
Starting Bid: $320.00
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux (97WS, 96RP, 95JA, 93DC, 93VN). Wine Spectator: "Exhibits blackberry, mineral, currant and dark chocolate. Of the 2005 Switchback Ridge "Peterson Family Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L), Wine Advocate writes: "More backward, but still accessible is the inky/purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Peterson Family Vineyard. A sensational perfume of melted licorice, black currants, smoked meats, underbrush, and toasty oak are followed by blackberry liqueur-like flavors. This is a powerful, full-throttle, concentrated Cabernet to consume over the next 15+ years. (RP)" (12/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine de Courcel Pommard 1er Cru "Grand Clos des Epenots" (93BH, 93ST, 93WS, (91-92RP)). Wine Spectator: "This red is rich, round and very accessible, tasting of freshly crushed berry and cherry. A phalanx of ripe tannins lurks in the background, but this is balanced and ends with a spicy note. (BS)" (05/2008)
Starting Bid: $220.00
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses" (94BH, 92VN). Burghound: "A drop dead gorgeous nose of wood and natural spice aromas, black and blue pinot fruit aromas nuanced by hints of violets and floral tones leads to seductive, sweet and mouth coating medium full flavors that are textured, delicious and plumy, all supported by sève wrapped tannins that are rendered almost invisible on the hugely long finish. A really beautiful effort that will age for decades. *Sweet Spot Outstanding* " (04/2007)
Starting Bid: $625.00
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Louis Jadot Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru (94BH, (91-93RP)). Burghound: "A brooding if elegant nose reflects ripe yet very fresh aromas of earth and underbrush along with notes of plum, cassis and violet. There is outstanding mid-palate density to the intensely mineral-inflected large-scaled yet refined flavors that culminate in a focused, linear and still youthfully austere finish. I would note that this improved materially as it sat in the glass so I would suggest decanting it for up to an hour first. As to maturity, this remains very youthful and I would be strongly inclined to continue to cellar this for at least another 5 years and 10 would be better." (03/2019)
Starting Bid: $380.00
Bid on this magnum of 2005 Sylvie Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes (1.5L) ((93-94RP), 91BH, 90VN). Wine Advocate: "Vinified with half whole clusters and aged in nearly all new barrels, Esmonin’s 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes (nicknamed “Sylvie”) originates in vines of 60 or more years of age in a variety of parcels including the Clos Prieur. The parcels are fermented separately, then blended at pressing. The atmospheric pressure had been unwilling to cooperate so these barrels and those of the Clos St.-Jacques remained un-racked, but I tasted a representative blend. (DS)" (06/2007)
Current Bid: $168.23
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé (94RP, (90-93JG), 90VN). Wine Advocate: "Disgorged in July 2014, Francis Egly's 2005 Brut Grand Cru Millésime is a brilliant wine in this middling vintage, bursting from the glass with aromas of orange oil, buttered toast, pear, praline and subtle spices. Full-bodied, muscular and vinous, it's layered and multidimensional, with a rich core of fruit, succulent acids and chalky structuring extract, complemented by a pinpoint mousse. This is a gourmand, gastronomic Champagne in its prime today. (WK)" (04/2021)
Current Bid: $255.00
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 La Violette, Pomerol. This wine comes from a tiny estate (only seven hectares) that borders Le Pin and Trotanoy. Robert Parker rated the 2005 vintage for Pomerol 95 points and "Outstanding."
Starting Bid: $100.00
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2005 d'Issan, Margaux (96JA, 96RP, 95JS, 93JG, 92VN, 92WS). Wine Advocate: "The more serious grand vin twin, the 2005 d’Issan, has a stunning nose of spring flowers, blackcurrant and blue/black fruits galore, and an impressively opaque dark plum/purple color. With a rich, concentrated and pure mouthfeel, wonderfully sweet tannin, full-bodied density and richness, but elegance in abundance, this is a stunner, and one of the great Margaux of the vintage. (RP)" (06/2015)
Starting Bid: $425.00
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Musigny Grand Cru (97BH, 97RP, (92-96ST)). Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Musigny offers a compellingly complex nose of black raspberry, plum, cranberry, maraschino, truffle, flowers, raw meat, peat, and wet stone. Fabulously mouth-coating, with a plush, creamy texture, its tannins entirely sublimated, this finishes with soaring lift and uncanny clarity and refinement of flavor, incorporating a floral dimension almost as vivid as that accruing to this year’s Clos de Beze. (DS)" (06/2007)
Starting Bid: $1,200.00
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru ((93-95BH), 94JG). Burghound: "An interesting if slightly odd nose of reduction and menthol notes added to wild, ripe and layered red berry fruit aromas that complement the gamy and completely backward flavors that are highly complex and possess a firm and mouth coating texture. This isn't necessarily a wine of finesse or elegance but there is character to burn and as usual, I quite like this. In a word, stunning. *Don't Miss!*" (01/2007)
Starting Bid: $380.00
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (99JS, 98JD, 97JA, 97RP, 97VN, 97WE, 96TWI, 96WS, 95DC). James Suckling: "The purity of fruit in this is fascinating with plums, currants and other dark fruits. Then there is another layer of spices and chocolate. So much cassis. Full and very layered with chewy polished tannins and a long, long finish. Just starting to open. Changes all the time." (09/2015)
Current Bid: $625.00
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru (94BH, 94ST, 92WS). Burghound: "A ripe, spicy and expressive multi-layered nose of red and black pinot fruit, earth, game, smoke and hints of anise, clove and exotic Oriental tea gives way to rich, cool, suave and very pure flavors that are lovely, refined and classy. This is understated in the mouth and possesses an ultra sophisticated mouth feel on the superbly long, focused and driving finish. This is not a huge wine by the standards of a classic Bèze but everything is in perfect harmony and it should be capable of 30+ years of positive evolution. *Don't Miss*" (04/2007)
