Old grain is becoming extremely rare and difficult to source. Where we once had unlimited access, we've been takenaback by how expensive even lesser grain has become. But quality single grain has also found an audience and this awesome Invergordon will be stupendous news for those already initiated and an enticing invitiation to those who are not. The Invergordon Distillery was founded relatively late in the Scotch game by famed blenders Whyte & Mackay. Built in 1959, it boasts 3 coffey style column stills and a massive capacity 36 million liters of alco...

93 points Wine Advocate: "This has become an extraordinary wine. It boasts an opaque purple color, followed by a fabulous nose of licorice, jammy black-cherry, cassis fruit, minerals, and smoke. Powerful, full-bodied, moderately tannic yet exceptionally well-endowed, this wine needs another 2-4 years of cellaring; it will keep for 20+ years. The most limited-production Cabernet in the Phelps portfolio is the single-vineyard Backus Cabernet. It is a 6.75 acre parcel superbly situated south of the Oakville Crossroad next to such Napa heavyweights as Dalla ...

90 points Wine Spectator: "A solid effort, with a tight band of herb, currant and cherry. Well balanced, with a pleasing dash of toasty oak, it holds together nicely on the finish. " (02/1997)

Wine Advocate: "The best of the 1993 Ceretto offerings, this Barolo is soft, supple, and Burgundian-like in its complex aromas of herbs, sweet dried cherry fruit, and underbrush. (RP)" (08/1997)

Bid on this bottle of 1993 Ridge Vineyards "Horseshoe/Young Foster" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon . Sourced from two of Monte Bello's smallest blocks. Ridge's notes on the growing season: "Late—but benign—spring rains delayed the start of the growing season at Monte Bello. In anticipation of a equally delayed harvest date, we thinned the crop heavily. Nights were cool throughout the summer, but late October’s warm weather pushed the fruit to full maturity. The merlot on South Slope was picked October 1st, but the cabernet did not ripen fully until the 18th. The twenty different vineyard sections are picked more by taste than by sugar and acid readings."
