Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1985 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (92RP, 92VN). Vinous: "Good full medium red. Some very ripe notes as well as a black tea coolness to the rather claret-like aromas of dark berries, licorice, menthol, tobacco and balsamic cedar. Perhaps the silkiest vintage to this point of the tasting and distinctly Bordeaux-like in its texture and complexity, delivering complex flavors of red and darker fruits, mocha, spices and flowers. Barrett noted that the picking weather was "too hot in 1984, too cold in 1985 and just right in 1986." But the fruit in 1985 benefitted from very good hang time. A second bottle of nearly equal quality (91) showed a stronger note of cedary oak, which gave the finish a faint dryness. (13.5% alcohol) (ST)" (05/2019)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1985 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (98VN, 98WS, 95DC, 94RP). Vinous: "The 1985 Léoville–Las Cases is not just one of the finest vintages from this Second Growth, but one of the high points for the entirety of Bordeaux in this decade. Here it eclipses the 1985 Lafite-Rothschild with ease. It has an exquisitely defined bouquet of red berry fruit infused with crushed stone and pressed rose petals, just like before. Ethereal. The palate is medium-bodied, a perfect marriage of structure and a degree of elegance that maybe the property has not matched before or since. It’s so, so harmonious on the finish. An absolute beauty. (NM)" (12/2019)
Starting Bid: $600.00

Bid on this bottle of 1985 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It exhibits a healthy dark ruby color with no signs of age. The nose has not budged much from when it was first bottled. The delicate yet attractive fragrance of vanilla, herbs, cassis, and spices is followed by a sculptured, fruity, medium to full-bodied wine with crisp acidity, moderate tannin, and good depth. (RP)" (04/1995)
Starting Bid: $330.00

Bid on this bottle of 1985 Joseph Phelps "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94JG, 93RP). John Gilman: "True to the Phelps impeccable track record throughout the vintages of the 1980s (in my book the golden age at Joseph Phelps did not end until the 1990s), the 1985 Eisele is a beautiful and very classic bottle of cabernet that probably is one of the top two or three wines of the vintage. The bouquet is deep and glorious, as it soars from the glass in a mélange of cassis, black berries, mint, bitter chocolate, tobacco, vanillin oak and cigar smoke. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and still fairly chewy, with great depth at the core, ripe, well-integrated tannins and excellent length and grip on the complex and palate-staining finish. I would still give this wine another three or four years to unfold, as it has not yet fully blossomed. A lovely example of the 1985 vintage. (Drink between 2010-2030) " (07/2008)
Starting Bid: $225.00

Bid on this bottle of 1985 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It reveals a lavishly oaked, smoky, jammy, blackcurrant-scented nose, sweet, round, glycerin-imbued, full-bodied flavors, and excellent purity, ripeness, and length. Other bottles have been more concentrated and complex, but who's complaining? (RP)" (04/1995)
Starting Bid: $160.00

Bid on this bottle of 1985 Margaux, Margaux (95DC). Decanter: "On this tasting, Margaux 1985 is holding up the best of the Firsts, with the seductive opulence and caressing fruits that have been a marker of this wine for much of its life, now with tertiary notes of saffron and salted caramel. A satin texture to the still very present tannins, with the whole thing given lift by gentle notes of iris flowers and crushed mint leaf on the finish. (JA)" (01/2021)
Starting Bid: $487.00

Bid on this bottle of 1985 Tenuta San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri (100DC, 100RP, 98VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Oddly enough, the 1985 Sassicaia was the wine least commented during the conversations that followed this retrospective. Our panel consisted of some two dozen professional wine tasters from around the world, and virtually not a word was uttered with regards to this wine. That's how truly outstanding it is. The soaring beauty of this landmark Sassicaia literally transcends the rather mundane realm of wine critique with its string of adjectives and wearisome descriptors. It hardly deserves to be treated like any of the other gorgeous wines we tasted on this glorious day. In truth, the 1985 Sassicaia does reveal a new perspective onto its perfection each time you have the fortune to taste it. (ML)" (04/2017)
