Produced from a small estate plot, this Armagnac is aged in 400L barrels and was distilled entirely in 1979. From the importer: "Domaine Séailles is one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the Côtes de Gascogne region of Southwest France. A family-owned estate since 1961, Séailles is now run by Jean Labérenne, who lead the domaine to Ecocert organic certification in 1997, swearing off all chemical fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, and synthetic chemical products. Located in the town of Ténarèze, which is unique in the region for its limestone ...

According to Robert Parker: "One of the most famous names in Pomerol ... In the nineteenth century, as well as the early part of the twentieth century, Vieux-Chateau-Certan was considered to produce the finest wines of Pomerol... Vieux-Chateau-Certan bases its style and complexity on a high percentage of cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon, whereas Petrus is nearly 100% Merlot. The vineyard, located in the heart of the plateau, surrounded by much of the reigning aristocracy of the appellation... has gravelly soil with a subsoil of iron-enriched clay. T...

Bid on this bottle of 1979 Henri Jayer Vosne-Romanee "Cros Parantoux" (93BH). Burghound: "The bottle in the tasting was not at the same level as other examples that I have had though it was certainly very fine. The best bottles offer a nose of classic Vosne spice, earth and strong secondary notes that soar from the glass to reveal massively rich and complex flavors possessing killer length. The '79 Cros is a most impressive wine with intense velvety flavors of incredible depth and remarkably, it drinks more like a fine '78 though perhaps without quite as much power. The tannins are completely resolved and this is drinking perfectly now." (10/2003)
Current Bid: $3,950.00

Bid on this bottle of 1979 Suduiraut, Sauternes. Wine Advocate: "One of the top 1979s, Suduiraut has produced an uncommonly rich, deep, powerful wine for this vintage. The wine is medium golden, with a ripe, toasty, caramel and apricot-scented bouquet, full body, plenty of viscous fruit, and a long finish. (RP)" (01/1998)
Starting Bid: $100.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1979 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac. From the famously tannic 1979 vintage, this Lafite is proving the more dismissive critics from earlier days wrong as it settles harmoniously into maturity with plenty of life and complexity remaining. At K&L, we are champions of great wines from difficult vintages, and here is a perfectly mature first growth that may not be out of reach in price. Fans of classic wines from the Left Bank with preferences that favor the leathery and refined end of the spectrum will find much to appreciate here. Anyone who can get their hands on a bottle of this is in for a real treat!

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1979 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (93WS, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "A surprise, showing plenty of ripe and exotic fruit for the vintage. Dark-ruby in color, with ripe plum and earth character. Full-bodied, with a long chocolate, berry finish." (11/1997)
Current Bid: $400.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1979 Margaux, Margaux (93RP). Wine Advocate: "This wine is just now reaching full maturity, much later than I initially expected. It is a classy, elegant example of Margaux possessing a dark ruby/purple color, and a moderately intense nose of sweet black currant fruit intermixed with minerals, vanillin, and floral scents. The wine is medium-bodied, with beautifully sweet fruit. This linear, more compressed style of Margaux possesses a good inner-core of sweet fruit, and a charming, harmonious personality. " (12/1997)
Current Bid: $675.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1979 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien. Decanter rates the 1979 Bordeaux vintage a 4 out of 5 declaring, "A large harvest of good quality wine."
Current Bid: $310.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1979 Calera "Jensen" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir. Vinous: "The 1979 Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard is powerful, deep and remarkably tannic for a wine of this age. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco and licorice flesh out in a distinctly brooding, structured Pinot. This is a tremendous showing for a 36 year-old California Pinot made from young vines. Hints of brett peak through from time to time, but frankly there is more to like than not like. Yields were just a half ton per acre. (AG)" (09/2015)
