Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1974 Ridge Vineyards "York Creek" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91JG). John Gilman: "The 1974 York Creek cabernet from Ridge is a lovely wine that has certainly been mature for many years already, but shows absolutely no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The deep, pure and complex nose wafts from the glass in a mix of black cherries, plums, tobacco ash, menthol, coffee, lovely soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish, suave and classy, with fine, mature complexity, still solid stuffing, melted tannins and nice brightness and grip on the long and fully resolved finish. The balance here is lovely and this wine will continue to drink well for years to come, despite its tannins having fully fallen away. " (10/2017)

Bid on this bottle of 1974 Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru. On this now iconic producer Neal Martin writes: "The trajectory of Armand Rousseau has been phenomenal in recent years. In particular, after the beatified 2005 vintages, the most revered Gevrey-Chambertin producer suddenly found itself amongst the Holy Grail, one whose wines are sought and fought over from London to New York to Hong Kong and everywhere in between. As I have written before, Rousseau is one of my benchmark producers as no doubt it is for many. Rousseau has been the source of some of the greatest wines I have ever consumed: just peruse my write-up of a Ruchottes-Chambertin vertical in December’s issue as evidence. At the same time, part of my appreciation for Rousseau is that they do not try to cover up their wines that can occasionally wear their frailties on their sleeves."

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1974 Silver Oak North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine Advocate: "This was a strong showing for a wine that was drinkable on the day it was released. It reveals plenty of ripe, jammy, curranty fruit aromas intertwined with scents of melted road tar, herbs, and toast. There is fine fruit, glycerin, and richness, as well as a spicy, alcoholic finish in this fleshy, corpulent wine. At twenty years of age it reveals the Silver Oak style and confirms that these wines, even though delicious young, can age more gracefully than some wine critics (myself included) have suggested. Bid on this bottle of 1974 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97RP, 94DC, 93VN, 92JG). Wine Advocate: "The nose is very expressive, a bouquet with open arms, touches of molasses once again, peppermint, nutmeg and hint of lemongrass. Beautiful definition. The palate is medium-bodied, very fine tannins, perhaps more so than the 1976 although it does not have quite the same depth of concentration and complexity. But there is a compelling core of dates, spice, cooked meats, citrus lemon and candied orange peel. This is as good as any mature Claret I have tasted of similar age. Awesome. (NM)" (06/2009)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1974 Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs Sonoma Zinfandel (94JG). John Gilman: "The 1974 Lytton Springs Zinfandel from Ridge is one of the greatest bottles of Zinfandel I have ever had the pleasure to taste. The wine has aged brilliantly and is drinking still at its absolute peak, soaring from the glass in a complex and captivating nose of black raspberries, cherries, pipe tobacco, delicate spice tones, a dollop of meatiness, a lovely base of soil and a topnote of aged leather. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and seamless, with excellent complexity, a fine core, outstanding focus and balance and a very long, meltingly tannic and utterly sophisticated finish. For those keeping score at home, the alcohol on this gem in the ripe vintage of 1974 was 13.3%. An utterly brilliant zin with decades of life still ahead of it! " (09/2017)
