According to Robert Parker: "I had the good fortune to taste this wine in Bordeaux and thought it to be excellent, nearly outstanding. The ripe, roasted bouquet of caramel, tobacco, smoke, and black fruits was close to sensational. In the mouth, this plump, generously endowed, velvety-textured Haut-Bailly probably has been fully mature for at least a decade, but exhibits no signs of losing fruit. John Gilman: "This most recent bottle of the ’64 was quite good, offering up a complex bouquet of dark berries, black cherries, hung game, nutskin, a good base of autumnal soil tones, oregano and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still quite solid at the core, with good soil signature, modest tannins and a long, complex and as I said, gently rustic finish. Good juice and still a fine value when the wines pop up at auction." (09/2022)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1964 Villadoria Barolo Riserva Speciale. Having begun as a nursery selling rootstock and cuttings to estates in the Langhe in the late 1800s, Villadoria established itself as a bona fide producer of fine Barolo and Barbaresco in 1959 in the heart of Serralunga d'Alba. This example from the winery's early days is still drinking beautifully, and represents a classic expression of Barolo that is rarely seen today.
