93-95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has an absolutely glorious bouquet of perfumed black cherries, blueberry, potpourri and light violet aromas that are understated and yet focused and delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with a precise opening, and very harmonious and sensual. Pure, mineral-driven red fruit defines the effortless finish. Stunning. (NM)" (01/2020) 94 points Decanter: "Noble reduction is often a feature of the Lafarge reds at this stage in their development, but it's nothing to sorry about, given how they mature ...

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Volnay has a beautiful, floral bouquet with exceptionally pure red cherry and fresh strawberry fruit, almost crystalline (and I still had to get to the premier crus!) The palate is very well balanced with real tension. This is a nicely structured, slightly more masculine Volnay with plenty of energy toward the vibrant finish. Excellent. (NM)" (12/2014) 90 points John Gilman: "The 2013 Volnay villages from Frédéric Lafarge is a fine bottle in the making. The nose is pure, bright and red fruity, offer...

95 points Decanter: "Fermented with 40% whole bunches for the first time in 2017 as an experiment, this has to be considered a success, adding a layer of Asian spices to the wine. Precise and refined, with lots of sappy, refreshing fruit, this is one of a series of delightful Lafarge wines this year. (TA) " (10/2018) 91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again the elegant nose is cool, airy and restrained with its gorgeous aromas of rose petal, lavender and freshly crushed cherry and raspberry scents that are liberally laced with spice hints....

96 points Decanter: "The shallow, bony soils of Les Caillerets generally produce one of the finest wines chez Lafarge and that's certainly the case here. It's a special site of 60-year-old vines covering 0.3ha of prime Premier Cru, resulting in a wine that is chalky, focused and very refined but with some ferrous grip. The oak is beautifully done here, the fruit fine, nuanced and sweet. Drinking Window 2025 - 2038. (TA)" (10/2019) 93-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Destemmed entirely by hand this year, the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets o...

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Volnay Vendanges Selectionées comes from a selection of 50-year-old vines on more calcareous soils that tend to produce more 'vin de garde' fruit than vines used for the Volnay Village. There was no 2012 produced by the domaine While it is adorned with similar scents as the Village, there is a greater sense of depth and intensity on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, more backbone than the Village Cru and a sense of symmetry toward the finish. Give this 5-6 years in bottle before...

2018 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru "Les Santenots du Milieu" (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Back In Stock!
94 points Decanter: "Generally the biggest and boldest of Dominique Lafon's line up of Volnays, sourced from a 3.9ha vineyard in the commune of Meursault that produced 49 barrels of wine in 2018. Focused, taut and layered, it has fine, scented one-third new oak, plenty of minerality and freshness and layers of black cherry, plum and raspberry fruit topped by pepper spice. Drinking Window 2028 - 2038. (TA)" (10/2019) 94 points John Gilman: "2018 is unequivocally a great, great year for the Lafon family’s Santenots du Milieu, and I would not be surprised...

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The lighter color remains quite vibrant with absolutely no bricking. The initial hints of secondary development are now present on the textbook Clos des Ducs' aromas of dried rose petals and sour cherries along with a hint of spice. The purity of the sleek and superbly well-focused middle weight flavors is really sensational as there is an intensely tactile impression of stones on the lingering finish that is shaped by bright but not really drying acidity. That said my sense is that this is going to be a race between...

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again there an elevated level of ripeness to the still fresh nose of cassis, black cherry and poached plum. The slightly more elegant and more concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess fine richness; indeed the texture is quite seductive, all wrapped in a complex, long and balanced finale where a hint of bitter pit fruit arises. *Outstanding*" (04/2020) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As usual, the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles is the most immediate and seductive wine in the cellar, burs...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The medium ruby-colored Volnay Champans has a creamy cherry-scented nose and an outstanding, sweet, medium-bodied, and supple character packed with ripe black cherries and minerals. (PR)" (04/1998) 91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Reserved, restrained and almost aromatically austere yet the intense, pure, robust flavors offer excellent detail, flavor authority and impressive length. This is still very much a baby and this should age for years." (04/2002) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cell...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs was described as "sometimes, a great surprise" by Guillaume d'Angerville - which is exactly what this was. Clearly riper on the nose than the '96, the fruit redder in profile with luscious wild strawberry, quince and red plum scents, edging towards kirsch-like scents with aeration, this is just a gorgeous Clos des Ducs to simply nose. The palate is very fleshy, almost corpulent in the mouth, almost viscous in texture with an elegant, saline finish. This is just divine with th...

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: " An elegant, pure and super-fresh nose reveals notes of intensely floral-inflected black berries, plum, violet and a beautiful range of spice elements. This is arguably the most refined wine in the range texturally speaking with its punchy and well-detailed flavors that terminate in a serious and tautly muscular finish. As pretty as it is though, I would still observe that it isn't quite as refined as say the 2010, 2014 or 2017 versions. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (04/2020) 93 points Decanter: "A lovely red and b...

89-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The expressive and elegant nose is spicier if not quite as ripe with its mix of both red and dark currants along with a pretty floral top note. The racy, intense and strikingly detailed middle weight flavors exude evident minerality on the raspy and slightly warm but impressively long finale. This will need to add more depth though my projected range assumes that will occur." (04/2020) K&L Notes: 90-93pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "The first sample, served blind in the pairing of Clos des 60 Ouvrées. Fracti...

91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An airy, cool and slightly more elegant nose isn't quite as spicy, but it is certainly higher-toned with its combination of red and dark currant, cherry and discreetly floral-suffused aromas. There is once again excellent energy to the strikingly well-detailed flavors that are almost as mineral-laden, all wrapped in a refreshing and youthfully austere finale. Good stuff and despite being firmly structured, this could actually be enjoyed young. *Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" (04/2020) K&L Notes: 92-95pts Ja...

93-95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru has an outgoing bouquet similar to the Taillepieds, albeit one with more intellectual weight and gravitas behind it. Black cherries, blueberry and light cassis aromas reveal crushed stone and undergrowth notes, all delivered with intensity and superb delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly firmer, stockier tannins than the Taillepieds, darker fruit and grainier texture toward the persistent finish. I see this has having real long-term potential. Excellent. (NM)" (10/2019) 92-94 p...

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet unwinds in the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet mingling raspberries and blood orange with savory bass notes of woo smoke, loamy soil, espresso roast and raw cocoa. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and lively, with a deep and tight-knit core, bright acids and a long finish. (WK) " (01/2020) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Volnay Fremiet 1er Cru, which underwent replanting up until 1999, has an appealing bouquet of wild strawberry, raspberry prese...

2018 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay
New!
93 points Decanter: "Dominique Lafon's village red comes from the young-vine parcels of his Volnay Santenots Premier Cru that were picked last - perhaps surprisingly - in 2018. This is a textbook example of what a Volnay should taste like, with nose-twithingly appealing aroma, pure, lacy, tannins, crunchy summer berry flavours and skilfully integrated 20% new wood. Drinking Window 2022 - 2028. (TA)" (10/2019) 89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A mentholated top note can be found on the slightly riper and more deeply pitched aromas of cassis, poac...

91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is the first wine to exhibit any appreciable wood influence and even here it is a background element on the markedly ripe aromas of cassis plum liqueur and exotic tea-scented nose. The strikingly refined middle weight flavors brim with minerality on the rich but lilting finale where the only reproach is a subtle touch of warmth. Lovely stuff though make no mistake, it should amply reward extended cellaring. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*" (04/2020) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of red berri...

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Perfumed, airy and more high-toned aromas derive more from the red side of the fruit spectrum while displaying pretty touch of spice and exotic tea. The cool and gorgeously textured medium-bodied flavors also brim with minerality on the focused, powerful and particularly firm finale that goes on and on. This is wonderful and I very much like the style and sheer class of this built-to-age Taillepieds. *Outstanding, Don't Miss!*" (04/2020) 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More muscular than the more et...

92-95 points Vinous: "(the entire bottom of this vineyard was fried by frost, according to régisseur François Duvivier): Bright, dark red-ruby. Medicinal blueberry and licorice aromas are lifted by a minty high note; less showy and more restrained on the nose than the Taillepieds and Caillerets today. Then wonderfully dense, primary and pure on the palate, but more vertical and less opulent than the Taillepieds and Caillerets. Strong mineral energy accentuates the impression of vibrancy. A bit less open to inspection today owing to its firm tannic spine....

92-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again there is a markedly spicy character to the nose of plum, various dark berries and poached plum scents. The dense, sappy and less overtly mineral-driven flavors possess outstanding depth and persistence on the balanced finale. This is also going to require at least a few years of patience to be approachable though it should be fully capable of rewarding 12 to 15 years of keeping. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding!*" (04/2021) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Chevret is lovely...

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An herbal tea top note can be found on the ripe aromas of cassis, black cherry, cinnamon and violet. The caressing and enveloping medium-bodied flavors also possess outstanding volume and focused power on the superbly long finish. This broad-shouldered effort is presently tautly muscular and quite firm though Roncerets typically ages beautifully into classic examples of Volnay and I predict this will do the same if allowed sufficient time. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding!*" (04/2021) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine A...

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A deft application of wood sets off notably ripe dark currant, blue berry, plum and earth-suffused aromas. The equally ripe, rich and velvety flavors possess excellent size and weight before terminating in an utterly delicious, moderately firm and attractively long finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose resurfaces. I very much like the sense of underlying tension and overall, this is a wine of relative refinement. Recommended. *Outstanding*" (04/2017) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Vol...

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos d'Audignac" (90BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The subtle difference in sunshine made a material difference in 2003 as this is a good deal more elegant and refined, which is interesting because this is not usually the case with pure red and black fruit aromas and supple, sweet, deep and relatively precise medium full flavors that display a robust and powerful finish. This is delicious, exuberant and fresh, all delivered with style and grace. *Sweet Spot Outstanding*" (04/2005)
Starting Bid: $120.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "En Caillerets". Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Very ripe cassis plus hints of menthol and mocha merge into fresh, sweet and expansive medium full flavors underpinned by tannins that are classier than those of the Tavannes but overall, this is not necessarily more complex or harmonious. This finishes with a firm, dry and chewy character." (04/2005)
Starting Bid: $180.00

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Camille Giroud Volnay 1er Cru Les Carelles.
Starting Bid: $125.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2017 Hospices de Beaune (Coche-Dury) Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots - Cuvée Gauvin" (93JG). John Gilman: "I am not sure if Raphaël Coche is likely to buy this cuvée on a regular basis in the future, but I am very happy he purchased a lot of the 2017, as this is going to be an excellent wine. It is a bit more new oaky, and the wood is a bit more toasted than is the case with the domaine’s own red wines, but it has excellent depth and complexity on both the nose and palate. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a blend of sweet blackberries, black cherries, bitter chocolate, pigeon, dark soil tones and smoky new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and shows fine purity to its soil signature, with a lovely core, fine focus and grip and a long, ripely tannic and very nicely balanced finish. Fine juice." (12/2019)
Starting Bid: $1,350.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des 60 Ouvrées" ((92-94RP), 94WE, 92BH, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beguiling aromas of animal fur, blackberries, dark cherries, and violets can be found in the nose of the 2002 Volnay En Caillerets Clos des 60 Ouvrees. Viscous, deep, and chewy, this muscular wine boasts immense concentration and length. Its thickly textured personality reveals blackberry jam, candied dark cherries, and a myriad spices. Its prolonged finish exhibits exquisitely ripe tannin. Though I’ve been in love with the 1990 for years, this 60 Ouvrees may well surpass it! (PR)" (06/2004)
Starting Bid: $549.00

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Domaine Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chenes". Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Volnay-Clos des Chenes is a wine with a thick, dark ruby color, as well as a huge nose of super-ripe, jammy cherries, spices, and minerals. It is long, rich, full-bodied, and brilliantly well-balanced. The finish exhibits considerable tannin, so be prepared to lay this wine away for 4-5 years. It should keep for several decades. Sadly, only 100 cases were produced. And you thought this man only made extraordinary Meursaults! I have long admired the red wines of Comte Lafon, but they are less renowned than the magnificent white burgundies that emerge from these cold cellars. The 1990 Lafon reds are the finest I have tasted from this domaine. (RP)" (12/1992)
Starting Bid: $183.88
