96 points James Suckling: "The dried-mango and pineapple character is so delicious in this wine. It’s full-bodied and medium-sweet, with a pretty density and a fruity finish. Wonderful balance to this super Sauternes. This is a little in reserve now, with so much for the future." (10/2014) 96 points Wine Spectator: "A big, broad, powerful style, with piecrust, roasted almond and hazelnut cream notes framing the core of apricot, creamed peach and dried mango. Picks up extra fig and pear details through the toasty finish. Needs a bit of time to finish so...

93 points Vinous: "The 1975 Climens is one of the finest releases of the decade. It has a wonderful bouquet with shimmering citrus fruit commingling with wild honey, orange blossom and soupçon of old antique furniture. Blossoms in the glass! The palate is fresh and vibrant with a killer line of acidity. This is still fresh and tense with notes of marmalade and grapefruit, mandarin, orange rind and allspice. This is a powerful Climens, though the 1976 has the edge. (NM)" (08/2022) Jancis Robinson: "Deep gold with the first signs of amber. More oily on t...

It blossoms in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a killer line of acidity. This is still fresh and tense with marmalade, grapefruit, mandarin, bitter orange and brown spices. It feels long and tender in the mouth: quite a powerful Climens at its peak. (NM)" (06/2015) Jancis Robinson: "High-botrytis vintage, low yields (7.2 hl/ha). TA 4.5 g/l (sulphuric), RS 98 g/l. D...

2001 d'Yquem, Sauternes (750ml) (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points James Suckling: "This is so layered and intense on the palate with lemons and dried pineapple, mango and honey. Full body, very sweet, but it remains tangy and vibrant. Shows such amazing balance and intensity. Crazy finish. Hints of vanilla and apple purée. One of the greatest Yquems ever. All about purity here." (07/2013) 100 points Wine Advocate: "I have had the very good fortune to taste the 2001 d'Yquem perhaps a dozen times since its release and have never been less than absolutely floored by its combination of poise, purity, precision...

96 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful apple, vanilla and honey aromas, with just the right amount of new wood. Full-bodied, medium sweet, with lots of pretty pineapple and honey. Long and refined. A beautifully silky and balanced Sauternes. Lots of intensity and well-knit. Unrivaled in this vintage. Best after 2009. *Collectibles* (JS)" (07/2006) 93 points Wine Advocate: "Served from an ex-chateau bottle. 94 points Vinous: "The 1995 Coutet Cuvée Madame has a less flamboyant bouquet than other vintages, quite tight at first with dried honey, pain d’épices, barley sugar and wax resin aromas. The palate is well balanced with a viscous, waxy-textured opening, quite spicy in style, very well balanced and fresh, quite mineral-driven, with that Manuka honey lingering long on the finish. Excellent. (145gm/L residual sugar, 3.5gm/L total acidity, 13.5% alcohol). (NM) " (12/2018) 94 points Wine Spectator: "This has a rich dense core of apricot, fig, glazed peach...

A seesaw of zesty acidity and luscious sweetness, this is a beautiful wine that still has decades ahead of it. Owned by the Lur Saluces family at the time, this clearly shows why Yquem stands in its own category in the appellation. 1961 Suduiraut, Sauternes (Soiled label)
Back In Stock!
"With a lengthy history comes a list of accomplishments and triumphs. Such is the case for Chateau Suduiraut, which dates to the seventeenth century. Not only did Suduiraut achieve First Growth status in the classification of 1855, they also were one of the pioneers in grafting vines onto American rootstock to thwart the scourge of Phylloxera. For this, credit goes to Emile Petit de Forest, who owned and oversaw the Suduiraut at the end of the nineteenth century. Today, at its best, Suduiraut produces a deeply colored, honeyed wine of great richness and...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Extravagantly rich, this is dense and supersweet initially, just balanced with acidity. The botrytis dryness is really not here at this stage, but with its elegant creamy texture, wood flavors still very present. This is still at the very beginning of its development. (RV)" (06/2008) 93 points Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château La Tour Blanche has a complex nose with lemon sherbet, orange sorbet, honey and jasmine all soaring from the glass without a care in the world. The p...

Medium-bodied, it weighs softly on the palate, then kicks in with a persistent finish. (PM)" (05/1999) Vinous: "The 1979 Yquem came from a small cache of half-bottles I acquired for 'sixpence' many moons ago. It is a pretty decent Sauternes for the vintage, featuring plenty of rich apricot and quince on the nose along with emerging hints of Barsac-like barley sugar. The palate has perhaps not aged quite as well, displ...

90 points Wine Advocate: "Somewhat less evolved than the 1971, and for me always a shade less interesting and complex, the 1970 Yquem is a large-scaled, rich, full-bodied, fairly alcoholic Yquem with significant flavor interest as well as crisp acidity. Unlike the 1971, which is close to peak maturity, this wine has a long way to go and is impressive, but not yet revealing all of its potential. Anticipated maturity: Now-2025. (RP)" (01/1998) Jancis Robinson: "Rich and very sweet with more than a hint of orange peel." (01/2012)
Price: $499.99

One of Sauternes original estates, Château de Carmes de Rieussec occupies 227 acres of prime territory in the heart of Bordeaux's sweet wine country. The 2019 vintage was one of the warmest in recent memory in Bordeaux, yet the Sémillon at Rieussec still developed ample botrytis to yield an ultra-aromatic and age-worthy Sauternes. After pressing, the wine was fermented and kept on the lees with regular stirring until December, after which time it was aged in oak barrels for roughly 12 months before bottling.

98 points Wine Advocate: "Pale to medium gold colored, the 2009 L'Extravagant drifts sensuously from the glass with evolving notions of burnt sugar, apple pie, crème caramel and praline plus hints of honey-coated walnuts and powdered ginger. Very sweet, rich, full-on unctuous and densely laden in the mouth, the palate possesses almost electric freshness supporting layer after layer of dried fruit and nut notions, finishing very long. It won’t cellar for as long as some of the 2009s, but this sure is delicious right now. (LPB)" (03/2019) 95-98 points Vi...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Surprisingly dry, this has richness rather than sweetness, and intense, powerful botrytis. The honey is intensely perfumed, along with baked apples and spice. Certainly a long-aging wine. (RV)" (06/2008) 92 points John Gilman: "The Coutet from 2005 is a beautiful and classic bottle of Sauternes in the making, with exemplary elegance and harmony showing right from the start on both the nose and palate. The deep, pure and very classic nose offers up a fine mélange of peach, orange, honey, incipient notes of the tea leaves to c...

Pure, velvety and unctuous but with a bite of citrus zest freshness coming in behind. (JL)" 97 points Wine Advocate: "Pale gold, the 2009 Climens offers up a fabulously fragrant nose of green tea, chamomile, powdered ginger, lemon marmalade and fallen leaves with suggestions of spice cake and preserved mandarin peel. The palate is super intense with vibrant, energetic fruit and layer upon layer of perfume and spice nuances,...

1961 Rieussec, Sauternes (high shoulder/low neck) dirty label
New!
From a legendary vintage in Bordeaux, this fully mature stickie is the color of liquid gold, and as sweet as fresh honey. For several generations, Château Rieussec has been a leading name in Sauternes wines. As early as 1868, Charles Cocks remarked that "Beyond any of the others, Rieussec produces wines that are very similar to Yquem wines."

99-100 points James Suckling: "This is an incredible young Yquem that is so vinous like a great vintage of Montrachet but then on the palate it turns to Yquem with spice, dried fruit and mushroom as well as sweet fruit. Last for minutes. Acidity is all there giving it a dynamic vibrance that jolts your senses. Special wine. It has a little more than than 140 grams of residual sugar, less than the legendary of 2001. But is very close in greatness. Let’s wait and see. " (04/2016) 100 points Wine Advocate: "Following a very long harvest stretching nearly ...

94-96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe, botrytized fruit currently dominates this wine with its rich concentration. It is a full and liquorous wine that will age for many years. (RV)" (04/2018) 93-95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another rockstar Sauternes is the 2017 Château Guiraud, which has the freshness and purity of the vintage, yet ample depth and richness. Caramelized limes, citrus, and ample minerality all emerge from this full-bodied, impeccably balanced dessert wine. Its acidity is present yet integrated, and it has a great mid-palate and a big finish, ...

92-94 points Vinous: "Aline Baly kindly furnished me with background information on the 2020 Coutet. "The first sorting occurred on September 16 and 17 to harvest the botrytis resulting from the thunderstorms of August 15," she told me. "The second and third passeage were organized quickly, as the climatic conditions were becoming unfavorable. The teams were ready to harvest within the hour, as soon as a weather window emerged. This second phase of harvest finally took place on September 23 before a thunderstorm that resulted in a cumulative rainfall of ...

96 points Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind in Bordeaux, the 1976 Chateau d'Yquem reaffirms its reputation as one of the great wines of the decade, although I would suggest that that 1971 and 1975 are the true pinnacles. However, in no way do I wish to slight this Sauternes. Deep and slightly burnished in color, it offers dried pineapple, barley sugar, almond and a cheeky puff of café latte. There is wonderful definition here. The palate is underpinned by nigh on perfect acidity with orange rind, mango, crème brûlée and minerals. As it fans out towards the fi...

94 points James Suckling: " I am amazed by this. Usually the dry Yquem is rather oxidized but this is lush and delicious. It smells and tastes like dried pineapple and mango. Hints of yogurt too. Full and rich with an opulent finish. Loving it. Decant an hour before serving and don’t serve it too cold. " (06/2016) K&L Notes: This is the rarely seen dry white wine of d'Yquem. The chateau produces this wine in certain years when conditions permit. 'Y' comes from the same exceptional terroir and vines as Yquem's famous sweet wines. It benefits from identi...

The palate is seductively rich and viscous with a beautifully balanced backbone of acidity and loads of earth and spice accents complementing the preserved citrus flavors, finishing long, lifted and lively. A very impressive achievement! (LPB)" (07/2021) 96 points Vinous: "The 2020 Doisy-Daëne has a wonderful bouqu...

97 points Vinous: "The 2009 Guiraud is one of the gems of Sauternes this vintage, one of the finest offerings in recent years. It has a wonderful, beautifully delineated bouquet with expressive scents of wild honey, orange pith, Seville orange marmalade and just a hint of pineapple. The palate is beautifully defined with pure botrytised fruit, supremely well balanced with a vivacious, ginger and white pepper tinged finish that lingers long in the mouth. Outstanding. It’s full-bodied, very long and intense with a great finish. Lively and compact with a dense but agile center-palate." (06/2022) 95-97 points The Wine Independent: "Made from 100% Semillon, the 2021 Suduiraut is to be aged for 16-20 months in oak, 50% new. Pale lemon-gold colored, it offers up the most beautiful scents of peach blossoms, mandarin peel, yuzu, and spic...

93 points Wine Advocate: "This year is a perfect example of a vintage that was much better for the sweet wines of Barsac and Sauternes than it was for the red wines. Yquem produced its greatest wine since the twin titans of 1975 and 1976. Medium golden, with a big, opulent, honeyed, oaky, flowery, tropical fruit bouquet, this wine is rich and concentrated, has very good acidity, a lot of botrytis, and a stunning finish. It is a great success, and it continues to evolve at a snail's pace. Anticipated maturity: Now-2035. (RP)" (01/1998) Wine Spectator: "...

It has a fine, slightly nutty bouquet that is curiously quite Burgundian in style. Lovely balance on the palate, it offers dried honey, white tea and an Alsace-like personality. Just a touch of oxidation here, very focused with a tang of lemongrass on the finish. Very fine. Then, little by little, the remarkable richness of the wine comes through, offering an impressive array of flavors and balance between sweet and dry. The wine will definitely age well. (RV)" 95 points Decanter: " Powerful fleshy exotic fruits - the juice comes in from the first moment and doesn't let up, ensuring the apricot and mango fruits are shot straight through the core of steel.
