Michael Cruse followed up his Champagne-inspired sparkling wine project, Ultramarine, established in 2008 with the creation of Cruse Wine Co. in 2013. Cruse Wine Co. was an opportunity for Michael to showcase fruit driven and satisfying wines that were fresh and pleasurable, but still remained serious at the same time. The roots of the North Coast run deep with Michael, so he chose to focus on sites within Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Contra Costa Counties to create these special wines. The one thing he didn’t want to do was to create another Pinot Noir ...

After nearly 20 vintages, "The Prisoner" red blend remains a standout wine notable for its history and consistently intense, concentrated flavors.

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It opens with classic scents of chocolate-covered cherries, cedar, bay leaves and tobacco with a very classy frame of sweet spices. In the mouth, it's medium-bodied and plushly fruited with a fine grain and great freshness, finishing long. (EB)" (07/2020) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The producer pulls from Napa Valley, High Valley, Alexander Valley and the Russian River Valley to combine 44% Cabernet Sauvignon with 20% Merlot, 14% Malbec, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Syrah and 2% Cabernet Franc. The result is an outsta...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another awesome blend by Russell, the 2018 Proprietary Red Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard is 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot, and it’s one of the more overtly sexy, opulent wines in the lineup. Offering a crazy perfume of lifted red and blue fruits, spring flowers, and incense, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a supple, seamless, mouth-filling texture, sweet tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish." (01/2021) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sugarloaf is a relatively new, cooler site in south Napa, above a qu...

An old favorite of the late Joe Heitz, the Grignolino is consistently a delightful, food-friendly style, with slightly spicy wild strawberry fruit aromas and flavors and a juicy palate. It's so light in color it drinks like a rosé, but has a bit more structure so that it stands up to heartier foods. Served with a slight chill, this is an excellent choice for barbecue fare or a rustic picnic with cured meats and cheeses.

Lagier Meredith is a longtime staff favorite here at K&L. This tiny 4.5 acre property on Mt. Veeder produces distinctive, singular wines with powerful structure and authentic mountain terroir. Winery Notes: "Although it conveys its family ties to Syrah, our Mondeuse usually has a more floral aroma than our Syrah, and that's especially true with this vintage. Rose petals big time! Deeply-colored and full-bodied, as always. No new oak - 22 months in neutral French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered. 78 cases made."

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Arietta "Variation One" Napa Valley Red Blend (93ST, 93VN, 90RP). Vinous: "The 2000 Red Wine Variation One, here in its debut vintage, has aged impeccably. Dark cherry, plum, scorched earth, licorice, game and new French oak give the wine much of its virile, imposing personality. The 2000 is now mature, but has enough fruit density to drink well for at least a handful of years to come. (AG)" (05/2017)

Bid on this bottle of 1948 Charles Krug "Burgundy" Napa Valley Red Blend. Founded in 1861, the Charles Krug Winery was the first in Napa Valley, sold to Cesare and Rosa Mondavi in 1943. When Cesare died in 1959, their sons took the helm, Robert as General Manager and Peter as Vice President. In 1966, Peter took over the role as President and Robert moved on to start his own winery in Oakville.

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of Heitz Cellar "Ink Grade" Napa Valley Port. This Napa Valley Port wine is a blend of the classic Portuguese grapes Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Sauzao, Tinta Cao, Tinta Bairrada, Tinta Madeira, Tinta Amarela and Bastardo. Named for the winery's vineyard on the road of the same name, nestled in the remote-seeming woodland above Napa Valley, the wine is characterized by its fruity character with a lush, velvety mouthfeel. Winemaker notes: "Rich and full-bodied with a wonderfully balanced sweetness, Heitz Ink Grade Port has been a customer favorite since we introduced it in 1994. The lush, fruitiness of this wine comes from a blend of eight classic Portuguese varieties. Our winemaker has combined several vintages to achieve an outstanding depth of dark berry flavors with smooth notes of honey. You will not want to wait for dessert! Heitz Ink Grade Port is also terrific paired with your favorite cheese or by itself as an aperitif."
