In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought 2 hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wines ...

A new addition to the K&L inventory and to the Jura AOC as a whole, Patrick Ligeron's Domaine des Carlines is quickly making an impression not only on Jura geeks, but also on fans of terroir in general. The domaine vineyard holdings lie partly within the Château-Chalon sub-AOC, each one delivering its own particular expression of the Chardonnay and/or Savagnin grapes. New additions to this year's portfolio include Poulsard and Pinot Noir.

2018 Benanti Etna Rosso
Top Pick!
91 points James Suckling: "Plum, strawberry and cherry aromas and flavors with firm tannins that are chewy, yet fine grained. Needs a little time to soften. Better after 2022." (11/2020)
Price: $17.99

93 points James Suckling: "Fresh and vivid red with plum and berry character, as well as dried fruit and walnuts. Some bark, too. It’s full-bodied, layered and very structured with firm tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Still tight, but will open with some decanting. Try after two hours." (11/2020) 90 points Vinous: "The 2017 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso Capitel San Rocco is dark, rich and earthy in the best possible way. Here I’m finding crushed blackberries, spiced orange, sage and exotic brown spices. It’s velvety-smooth yet lifted and energet...

95 points Decanter: "Referring to the marly soil and 180-degree exposure, Tedeschi's Marne 180 is crafted from the estate's hillside vineyards in eastern Valpolicella. Besides the requisite Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, it includes a handful of lesser-known grape varieties indigenous to the zone - like Negrara, Rossignola, Forselina and Croatina. An exuberant Amarone that is youthful and clean, this has aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and mint which tumble out of the glass then give way to pure dark cherry and sandalwood. Full, rich and luscious, ...

Nicolas Idiart, winemaker and founder of Maison Idiart, grew up with a passion for wine, which he acquired from his father and grandfather. After graduating from winemaking school at Blanquefort in Bordeaux, Nicolas' enthusiasm for Loire wines brought him to work in Chinon, Touraine, and Muscadet, with stints further afield in Australia and New Zealand. Never quite sure where his niche was, he moved in to the sales side of the wine business, mainly in North America. After 7 long and ultimately unsatisfying years of sales, he decided to go back to winemak...

94 points James Suckling: "There’s a surprisingly herbal note to this, reminiscent of peppercorns and bell pepper, but that only adds to the impression of dark cherries, dark plums and elderberry compote. Hints of vanilla and cloves. Round and very mouth-filling on the palate with a plethora of menthol, asphalt and tar, coating every extremity of the mouth. The finish has an ever-so-slight, sweet impression, but there’s firmness aplenty. " (09/2019) 93 points Vinous: "There is an unbelievable amount of vibrant, unbridled energy in the 2013 Amarone dell...

91 points Decanter: "Fattori purchased the 12ha Col de la Bastia property in Montecchia in 2009. There, limestone and yellow sandstone create the ideal place for Corvina. Made with fruit from vineyards more than 30 years old, this wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged in oak. The nose has redcurrants, blackberry coulis, bramble undertones, spice and raspberry jam. The palate has a great core of fruit and round tannins. The 2018 vintage gives freshness and balance. (AB)" (11/2020)

97 points James Suckling: "Extremely perfumed and crystal-clear with violets, plums, raspberries, walnuts and black olives. It’s medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins that are extremely polished and refined. The length is long and very precise. Chocolate and hazelnuts. This is the 25th anniversary of this fine merlot and sangiovese. Hard not to drink now, but better after 2022." (09/2020) 97 points Vinous: "Siepi, Fonterutoli’s Merlot/Sangiovese blend, is absolutely gorgeous in 2018. Rich, pliant and creamy, Siepi offers all of the seductiveness...

Chateau Valentons-Canteloup Bordeaux Superieur is a family-owned property that sits just along the Dordogne river in Bordeaux. It is owned by the Meynard family and Jacques Meynard makes all the wine on the property from white to rosé to red. Jacques also makes a wine under the label of Chateau Valentons-Canteloup that he calls "Cuvée Excentrique", and it is truly eccentric for a Bordeaux Superieur, made from Petit Verdot (70%) and Merlot (30%).

This is the Bordeaux-meets-Rhône blend you never knew you wanted. Jean-Louis Denois is an iconoclast, as independently-minded and attentive to the character of the terroir in which he cultivates his grapes as anyone we’ve encountered. This talented winemaker has an exceptional track record with K&L customers and staff alike. He creates consistently unique wines with brilliantly rendered fruit from a medley of grapes, and the 2017 Les Garrigues named for the uncultivated thyme and rosemary scrub that grows everywhere there-is an expressive blend of Syrah,...

92 points Vinous: "Molettieri's 2007 Taurasi Vigna 5 Querce is a big, big wine. Mocha, espresso, game, tar, licorice and dark raspberries meld together in an unusually ripe, flashy Taurasi. The 2007 boasts tons of richness and sheer power, but it needs at least another year to settle down and incorporate its oak. (AG)" (02/2013) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Wild underbrush and exotic spice notes mark the racy black cherry puree and cassis fruit in this rich red, delivering full tannins and a long aftertaste of wild flowers, mineral and spice. (NM)" (06/2...

95 points Wine Spectator: "Creamy tannins are well-knit with flavors of crushed cherry and wild strawberry fruit, melted licorice and fragrant thyme in this enticing, full-bodied red. Zesty notes of iron and ground black pepper underscore the fruit profile, leading to the chewy finish. Long and harmonious. (AN)" (03/2021) 92 points Vinous: "The 2012 Taurasi Riserva Vigna Cinque Querce is a big, dark, and smoky effort from Salvatore Molettieri. Here I'm finding a massive display of crushed black cherry, offset by sour citrus, with notes of damp earth a...

90 points Vinous: "The 2018 Passorosso transports you to the ashen slopes of Etna with a display of crushed rocks, black raspberry, wild brush herbs and hints of smoke. It’s soft and understated, impressing more with its purity of fruit and lifting acidity, as a subtle layer of fine tannin collects upon the senses. This concludes structured with rosy inner florals and hints of strawberry. It may not be the most vibrant or flashy vintage of Passorosso, but it is remarkably pretty. (EG)" (06/2021)

93 points James Suckling: "Plums and blackberries with black-mushroom and dark bark undertones. Full-bodied with round tannins and a delicious, juicy finish. This needs time to come together, but already so pretty." (07/2021) 91 points Vinous: "The 2019 Romitoro (Petit Verdot, Syrah) is purple-tinged, perfumed and offers a display of musky wild berries that keeps you at the edge of the glass. It’s silky on the palate and quite elegant, as a mix of red and black fruits flesh out, leaving a staining of minerality under an air of violet florals. Remnants ...

Importer's Notes: Domaine Tessier was founded in 1961 by Roger Tessier, with his son Philippe taking the reins 20 years later in 1981. They are located in the heart of the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny AOC’s and currently have 23 ha of vines. The vineyard exists in a microclimate that keeps the vineyards cool, situated between the Loire River and the forest of Cheverny, Chambord and Solonge and has been Ecocert certified since 1998. Philippe believes that a wine should be the expression of the place from which it comes and should reflect the climatic condi...

98 points James Suckling: "This is such a beautifully nuanced red with tobacco, dried herbs, wet earth and currants. Some leather and rose petals, too. Full-bodied and chewy, yet refined with great polish. It’s rich and intense at the same time. Very focused center palate. Broad layers of tannin and fruit. Better after 2024, but already a joy to taste." (04/2020) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It's a solid, well-built and seamless Almaviva, with clout and balance. 2018 was a more homogeneous vintage, globally considered one of the best in re...

93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of cherry and ripe strawberry with crushed-stone undertones. It’s full-to medium-bodied with a bitter-cherry undertone to the fruit and firm, edgeless tannins." (11/2020) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The floral impact of this wine leaves a lasting impression, and the quality of fruit veers toward wild berries and cranberries. There is a note of plush or succulent sweetness that seems very specific to this wine. The tannins are silky, and the wine is mid-weight in texture but noticeably long in persistence....
