Camus is an underrated domaine with good grand cru holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. It's existed, more or less, since 1732, but mostly after the phylloxera epidemic, when Joseph Camus purchased abandoned vineyards. The wines are not filtered, so you'll often find sediment, but this ensures that every iota of flavor from the grape makes it into the final wine. "The prices at this domaine are down-right reasonable," according to the Burgundy Report. "Tasted at the domaine as a ‘family,’ each wine is interesting and follows the hierarchy – there’s a clear dif...

2018 Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
Top Pick!
93 points Decanter: "If you want to taste a textbook Gevrey-Chambertin, this is a very representative blend combining fruit from over 30 different parcels across the appellation. With an average vine age of 45 years, it's a sweet, glossy Pinot Noir with perfumed 30% new wood, caressing tannins and layers of red berry and bramble fruit sweetness. A very harmonious cuvée. (TA)" (10/2019) 93 points James Suckling: "Subtle aromas of sweet strawberries and hints of citrus. Violets, too. Full-bodied and very fruity, but the tannins create a creamy texture an...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wisps of freshly picked violets and crisp black plums gain ripeness and concentration in this mineral Pinot Noir. Vinified via indigenous yeast and matured for 20 to 24 months in used oak, it's penetrating in fruit yet sheer and crystalline, edged by a salty spray of crushed stone and fine-tipped tannins that linger on the finish. (AI)" (12/2021) 93 points Wine & Spirits: "Pierre Gelin expanded his family’s domaine in Fixin by purchasing vineyards in the neighboring village of Gevrey-Chambertin. He had been farming Clos de M...

96 points Wine Spectator: "This red's depth and harmony are evident on the first sniff and sip. Delivers a deep well of balanced black cherry, plum, licorice, tar, sandalwood and toasty oak flavors, with dense structure and supple texture. Fresh and long, featuring dark fruit, mineral and spice that echo on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2047. " (01/2022) 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A wonderfully fresh, cool and airy nose features scents of black cherry and newly turned earth with a floral top note that are trimmed in subtle but not imper...

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are five and a half barrels of Dugat's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin La Marie, a richer, more muscular wine that delivers aromas of cassis, cherries, dark chocolate, spice and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety, it's deep and concentrated, standing out as one of the richer, broader-shouldered wines in the cellar. (WK)" (01/2021) 90-92 points Vinous: "The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin La Marie, which was isolated from the Gevrey-Chambertin Village for the first time in 2018, has a fresh, well-defi...

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The airy and cool essence of red cherry is complemented by floral and wood nuances. The sleeker and more refined middle weight flavors are notably more mineral-driven on the lingering if slightly warm finish that is supported by notably fine-grained tannins. " (01/2022) K&L Notes: 89-92pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "A mix of both parts of the vineyard: they used to be separate until 2002. Most is from the section called Meix Bas which has a cool air flow. Though the plant material is not ideal the vines are now 55 years...

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another of the portfolio's highlights is the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny, a dramatic wine that soars from the glass with aromas of cherries, cassis, burning embers, dark chocolate and spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent, its rich structuring tannins cloaked in ripe but lively fruit. (WK)" (02/2020) 91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is aromatically quite similar to the Corbeaux if perhaps just slightly more elegant. The mouthfeel of the middle weight fla...
