2020 Kalinda Redwood Valley Mendocino Sauvignon Blanc
Top Pick!
This wine comes from one of the more renowned Sauvignon Blanc producers in Northern California. Really! But, we offer this beauty at a price much lower than what you’d pay at the winery, as for decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. Naturally, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity.

2018 Marietta "Gibson Block" McDowell Valley Mendocino Syrah
Top Pick!
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Gibson Block Syrah comes from very old vines interplanted with other varieties like Grenache, Trousseau Noir and Mission. They are dry-farmed, picked together and co-fermented. It has a deep ruby-purple color and deep, layered aromas of tar, earth, blackcurrant liqueur, cast iron and dried violets. The full-bodied palate bursts with juicy acidity, sparks of Luxardo cherry and a silky, rounded mouthfeel. It finishes very long and perfumed. (EB)" (06/2021) 94 points James Suckling: "Blackberry, black-lic...

98 points Wine Enthusiast: "This opulent wine offers amazingly concentrated, ripe fruit flavors and a creamy texture. Layers of black cherry, blueberry and raspberry syrup are followed by rosemary and pine. Made from 80% whole clusters and 20% aged in new oak, it is an indulgent and delicious wine that beautifully supports its fruity extravagance with a slightly tangy and subtly tannic texture. *Cellar Selection* (JG) " (04/2021) 95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Pinot Noir Estate - Field Selections is the most complete of the Pinots in this range. Readers w...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This taut, balanced wine emphasizes mineral, earthy aromas and crisp, bone-dry fruit flavors on a medium-bodied frame. It is appetizing and palate-cleansing. (JG)" (08/2019) K&L Notes: Winery notes: The grapes were sourced from two vineyards, both organically farmed. The dry-farmed Lolonis Vineyard, planted in 1943 and recognized as the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in California, provides minerality and the austerity we strive for in our rendition of Sauvignon Blanc. McFadden Farms Willow Block, at the northern-most reach...

90-93 points Vinous: "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Game Trail is decidedly aromatic and peppery in its flavor profile, much of that a reflection of the personality of this site planted at 1400 feet. Hints of spice, licorice and chocolate add complexity to the dark-toned flavors, but the wine's overall feel leans towards the more savory side of Cabernet. (AG)" (04/2020) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This ageworthy wine grown at 1,400-feet elevation is dark in color, dense in flavor and braced by plenty of firm, chewy tannins. It is well packed with vivid b...

Winery notes: Early pick times result in racy acidity while whole-cluster fermentation lighten and brighten this wine and bring forward tutti-fruity red fruits which balance perfectly with the natural earthiness of the varietal. If you're a fan of our KC Labs Zinfandel, this new Syrah is sure to please! Pairs perfectly with a hike, picnic, or time spent with friends and family!

Phil Baxter is one of the most talented winemakers in Anderson Valley. He also works with some of the finest vineyards of the region including Valenti, Oppenlander, Ferrington, and Langley. It should come as no surprise then that this appellation level Pinot Noir is one of the best you'll find at this price point. A rich, dark fruited style, but with plenty of savory intrigue and forest floor qualities adding complexity and depth. If you don't know the Baxter wines, this is the perfect place to get on board. (Ryan Woodhouse K&L Domestic Wine Buyer)

Winery notes: Orange wine comes from skin fermented white grapes, so the juice extracts color, flavor and texture from white skins, giving it its orange hue. Wayward Son is a skin fermented blend of Marsanne and Roussanne from Mendocino County. The wine has the flavor profile of white wine with the texture of a red wine making it extremely food friendly and fun to share.

Still family-owned in Mendocino's Anderson Valley, Husch has been producing Sauvignon Blanc since 1980. They source this wine from their partners down the hill in between Ukiah and Hopland. Although here it's not called the Russian River Valley appellation, La Ribera vineyard sits, indeed, right by the Russian River. Winery notes: "Husch's 2019 Sauvignon Blanc follows our classic style. Lively aromas of grapefruit, lemongrass, ripe honeydew, guava and gooseberry leap from the glass. The wine is crisp and refreshing with flavors that jive with the aromas ...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This medium-bodied wine is graceful and well balanced, offering crisp lemon and green-apple flavors on a rather lean, tangy texture. It is nuanced and complex, and has a nice tension from tantalizing acidity. (JG)" (03/2021) K&L Notes: Winery notes: This wine is a pure expression of Mendocino Chardonnay. The 100% estate grown fruit was harvested by hand, whole cluster pressed, cool tank fermented with four months on lees. Our 2019 Unoaked Chardonnay embodies grace and finesse, unhampered by oak or malolactic influence.

90 points Wine Spectator: "Fresh and fruity, with buoyant raspberry and cherry flavors, backed by crisp acidity. The lithe finish offers light mineral and spice notes. (KM, Web Only-2020)" K&L Notes: Erin Brooks writes in the Wine Advocate: "Copain has a new winemaker. Ryan Zepaltas came on board in 2017 for blending, and 2018 will be his first official full vintage. 'We are not going to change our style,' he says. 'We are still making wines in a more restrained style from Anderson Valley, Mendocino and the Sonoma Coast.'"

Winery notes: KC Labs, our experimental side project, is all about bucking the traditions of California wine, and there's no better example than our Zinfandel. The fruit is grown at Venturi Vineyard in Mendocino and is harvested early then allowed to ferment carbonically without being crushed. This process allows us to take what is normally a jammy, tannic, and high-alcohol variety and turn it into a light, fresh summertime wine. Served chilled, this wine will challenge your perceptions of what Zin can be and what it should be.

2018 Drew "The Field Blend - GSM" Mendocino Ridge Rhône Blend
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This quietly impressive wine wraps superfine tannins around deep, haunting flavors that range from ginger-spice cookies to cooked blueberries, new leather and dark chocolate. It’s big in terms of flavor impact, but the wine itself is just medium to full bodied, and offers a silky, polished texture that’s hard to resist. *Editors’ Choice* (JG)" (06/2021) 93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Field Blend is dark, fleshy and wonderfully inviting. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice, spice, menthol and leather all flesh out in a succulent, ...

Goldeneye in Anderson Valley has long been considered one of the benchmark producers of the region. Their Pinot Noirs have been consistent best sellers here at K&L for at least a decade. When we were offered some of their vintage Brut Rosé, a wine typically reserved for winery direct purchase, we jumped at the chance and weren't disappointed! Winemaker's Notes: "Anderson Valley has earned acclaim for the complexity and distinctiveness of its sparkling wines. 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Chardonnay Alder Springs Vineyard displays expressive grapefruit, yuzu zest and orange blossoms notes with touches of cedar, croissant and beeswax. Medium-bodied, fine, fresh and with lovely toasty/savory flavors coming through on the palate, it offers satisfying length and lovely harmony. (LPB)" K&L Notes: 94 points Tasting Panel: "Silky and elegant with lovely texture and precise flavors of tangy citrus and smooth vanilla oak."

Best from 2025. *Cellar Selection* (JG) " (04/2021)

Brilliant sour cherry and rich grapefruit notes light up the palate. " (08/2020) K&L Notes: This is a slightly unusual blend of 48% Sangiovese, 25% Grenache, 16% Syrah, with 8% Barbera, and just 3% Zinfandel, from McDowell Valley Vineyards in the Hoplan...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Seductive aromas of caramel and toast lead to buttery, apple-tart flavors on a medium body. This wine is nicely freshened by good green-apple acidity and stays relatively light in texture. Fermented by native yeast and aged in just 12% new oak, it is built for aging. (JG)" (06/2021) K&L Notes: Winery notes: "Jason and Molly Drew started Drew in 2000 with a clear pursuit in mind: to craft small lot, cool climate wines that express site distinction and traditional varietal character. Their moment came when they stumbled upon...

90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Starting with the 2017 Pinot Noir Anderson Valley, which comes from multiple sites in the Anderson Valley and spent 16 months in 60% new French oak, it has a juicy berry-fruited nose as well as ample violets, candied orange peel, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. It's one of the more approachable wines in the lineup yet still has classic Anderson Valley structure and minerality, medium body, and a great finish." (05/2020)

2018 Anthill Farms "Comptche Ridge Vineyard" Mendocino County Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
94-96 points Vinous: "Another stellar wine in this range, the 2018 Pinot Noir Comptche Ridge is fabulous. In this vintage, the Comptche Ridge is a bit richer and deeper than it has been, while avoiding some of the austerity this wine can show. Beguiling in its aromatics and finely sculpted, the 2018 is marvelously complex. There is plenty of tannin, and the acids are bright (as they are for all these wines), but the 2018 is deep and so multi-faceted. It will appeal most to readers who enjoy taut, structured reds. (AG)" (04/2020) 94 points Robert Parker...

91 points John Gilman: "These are still quite young vines, having only been planted in 2004, but it is quite clear that the Rhys team is keeping a tight rein on yields here and the 2010 Horseshoe syrah is outstanding. It is not quite as soil-driven as the 2010 Skyline syrah (this vineyard does not share the same limestone found at Skyline), but it is every bit as complex and impressive. I love its octane level of 12.8 percent. The superb nose offers up scents of cassis, grilled venison, black olive, pepper, a nice touch of syrah’s medicinal overtones, a ...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The current release of the NV Estate Brut is made up mainly of fruit from the 2015 vintage. It is a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir and was made with about ten grams per liter dosage. Disgorged in October of 2018, it has a fresh, open nose with pure fruit expression: crushed apples, pears and lemon peel mingle with touches of stone, flowers and toast. The medium-bodied palate offers a lovely dichotomy of toasty fruits with uplifted citrusy, minerally accents with a finely beaded mousse, and it finishes...

2017 Waits-Mast "Wentzel Vineyard" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
New!
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Hints of earth, leather and black tea weave through this delicate, almost soft-textured wine, giving it delicious complexity that builds with each sip and lingers on the finish. It was aged for 16 months in 23% new French barrels for just a touch of oak spice. " K&L Notes: One of my favorite vineyards in Anderson Valley, Wentzel always seems to deliver the goods. Waits-Mast have coaxed a particularly detailed rendition into bottle this year, don't miss it! (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L Domestic Wine Buyer) Winemaker's Notes: "At a r...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "This extraordinary wine offers a tantalizing, bold, black-pepper aroma that leads to deep, just-ripe black-fruit flavors and an array of clove, espresso and earth accents that give it delicious complexity. It is tightly wrapped in fine-grained tannins at this point, but will bring out more complexity and smoothness with time. *Cellar Selection* (JG)" (05/2021) 95 points Decanter: "The more savoury and pepper-driven of the Drew Syrahs, this showcases the elegantly animalistic heights that Mendocino County can achieve. 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Rose petal and mint accents merge with deep, concentrated black-fruit flavors in this medium- to full-bodied wine that is laced with velvety, fine-grained tannins. It combines superb balance with layers of fruit and subtle spices for a very compelling palate. *Cellar Selection* (JG)" (06/2021) K&L Notes: "Fog Eater" is an Anderson Valley colloquialism referring to coastal dwellers, people blanketed by the fog that settles over the valley off the Pacific.

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Coming from a single parcel of high density vines in the Bearwallow Vineyard in Anderson Valley, the 2013 Pinot Noir Porcupine Hill knocks it out of the park with it intensity and depth. Giving up fabulous black raspberry, dried rose petal, violets and spice/incense, it's pure class on the palate and has an ethereal texture, perfect balance and a great finish. 95 points Vinous: "The 2016 Syrah Estate Gibson Block is the star of this range from Marietta. From a dry-farmed site planted in the 1880s, the Gibson Block is powerful, sumptuous and racy to the core. A whole range of complementary varieties give the Gibson Block striking inner perfume and lift to play off the intense dark fruit, while silky tannins add to the wine's racy, inviting personality. 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid red. Strong raspberry and cherry-cola aromas, with suave floral and Asian spices adding complexity. The persistent, gently tannic finish emphatically repeats the red berry and floral notes and lingers with bright, spicy intensity.
