95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2021 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is a touch more complex as well as precise. Stone fruits, white flowers, spicy oak, and a kiss of chalky minerality all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pure, elegant, layered mouthfeel, flawless balance, and a great finish. It shows the balanced, complete, incredibly impressive style of the 2021 vintage beautifully." (08/2024) 93 points Vinous: "The 2021 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is a classy, polished wine. Lemon confit, white flowers...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2021 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is deep ruby-hued (it's not opaque) and offers an intense, piercing perfume of peppery red and black cherries, sappy herbs, candied violets, and spicy oak. Beautifully balanced, medium-bodied, and concentrated, it brings plenty of ripe tannins, has nicely integrated oak, and a great finish. It's a serious Pinot Noir that's going to benefit from just a year or three of bottle age and shine through at least 2033." (08/2024) 93 points Vinous: "The 2021 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vi...

93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Pinot Noir Estate Upper Picnic Block is eminently charming in its sweet-fruited, exuberantly spiced, medium-weight build. Layers of kirsch, raspberry sauce, cinnamon, cardamom and iodine mark a wine of sexiness and sensuality. Again, this is a style reflective of a different era for Neely. Growing season differences notwithstanding, the 2018 checks in at 14.1% alcohol, nearly two full degrees higher than the 2021 tasted alongside. I prefer this edition, as it’s still finessed but has more stage presence and inner harmony. The ...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Ripe black cherries, fresh cut roses, wild strawberries, and spicy notes all emerge from the 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills, another silky, seamless, impressive Pinot Noir from this team. It's a brilliant value in Pinot Noir that would whomp many a Premier Cru Burgundy. " (08/2023) 93 points Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills is bursting with aromas of pomegranate, cranberry, blood orange, potpourri and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is silky and perfumed with irresistible juiciness and a long, flavorful...

95 points Vinous: "The 2014 Au Bon Climat 2014 Nebbiolo Punta Exclamativa, all the very rare Michet clone, is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, spice, blood orange, leather and menthol open first. A wine of real depth and power, the 2014 opens beautifully with time in the glass, finishing with tremendous substance and intensity. Hints of tobacco, leather, licorice and wild herbs inform the persistent finish. The 2014 spent five years in oak. It's as fine a Nebbiolo as I have tasted in California. Superb."

94 points Vinous: "The 2014 Nebbiolo Bricco Buon Natale is bright, precise and beautifully lifted. Kirsch, white pepper, cedar, mint and floral notes give the 2014 a super-classic profile redolent of Nebbiolo character. Medium in body and sinewy, the 2014 is a classically built, austere (in the best sense of the word) wine that offers tremendous varietal character. That's pretty much all there is to it. 98 points Decanter: "One of the most exciting domestic Syrahs, this wine beautifully showcases a well-crafted expression of the ‘classic’ funk of The Rocks. The deep umami notes come from the concentration of flavours in the berries due to the vines’ low yields. Notable aromas of green olives and peppers, violets, and meats complement those flavours. This Syrah includes 50% whole cluster and spends 40 days on the skins, enhancing its complexity and depth."

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Very deep ruby, the 2018 Pinot Noir Hirschy Vineyard takes on notes of mocha, sun-ripened black cherry, and toasted cedar. Full-bodied and ample with ripe tannins, it’s more grounded in its sensibility, with an earth-toned profile, and delivers savory umami richness, with notes of dried porcini on the finish. (AF)" (09/2023) 92 points Vinous: "The 2018 Pinot Noir Hirschy Vineyard opens with a dusty blend of violets and roses, complementing citrus-kissed cherries. This is juicy and round in character with a slow build of tension,...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Brought up in 15% new oak (with 15% whole clusters), the 2021 Syrah Arnaut is also gorgeous, with a beautiful sense of purity and finesse. Ripe blackberries, hints of red fruits, spicy herbs, leather, and pepper all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a pure, elegant mouthfeel and fine tannins. It shines for its overall balance and purity every bit as much as its richness and power. Enjoy bottles over the coming 10-15 years." 95 points Wine Advocate: "Uber-fine, concentrated and possessed of eminent balance, this 2021 864 Single Block Release Aqueduct Henk Pinot Noir is sleek and powerful. It has muscle in all the right places (primarily the finish, where it accelerates away) and restraint in all others. The tannins that shape the fruit in the mouth are whisper fine and curl and curve their way across the tongue. This is a beautiful wine with grace and poise." (11/2022) 93 points James Suckling: "This has a sophisticated and perfumed nose of dried roses, red cherries, straw...

94 points Vinous: "The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Massa Vineyard shows why Cabernet Sauvignon is such a noble variety. There's gorgeous textural depth and power here, but in the restrained style that runs through all these wines. Young and potent, the 2023 is redolent of black cherry, plum, incense, licorice and gravel. There's an exotic quality here from the late harvest that is impossible to miss. I would give this time to soften. The tannins are pretty imposing today." K&L Notes: From the renowned Massa Vineyard in Carmel Valley. Planted in 1968 at 1,70...

94 points James Halliday: "Grenache from a selection of old vine sources across the Barossa. 25% whole clusters open this wine up beautifully. It's slightly more loose-knit than the stellar 2021 release but my word it's lovely drinking. Pure, crunchy red fruits, plenty of spice and ginger, cola and pressed wildflower nuance. Detailed and airy on the palate with compact, sandy tannins, bright acidity and plenty of energy as it trails off." (09/2024) 93 points James Suckling: "This is good grenache, capturing the contemporary zeitgeist of crunchy red fru...

From K&L On the Trail blog: "Jean-Michel Giboulot took over the family business in 1982 and has put together one of the best bang-for-your-buck portfolios in all of Burgundy over the last three-plus decades. His wines from Burgundy's Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation are known as great values, and both the reds and whites are equally strong. Giboulot's wines straddle the line between traditional and modern, with reds that have crunchier fruit and fine tannins, but plenty of ripeness and purity. The whites are done in a feminine style with rounder fruit and ...

94 points Decanter: "This wine is a fantastic take on Gamay, made from vines over 30 years old on the west side of the Willamette Valley. With a classic Beaujolais feel, it greets you with beautiful aromas of fresh red fruits like cranberries and pomegranates, bringing lively acidity to your palate. The juicy, crunchy fruit flavours, the hint of pepper, the light earthiness, and soft tannins make it a perfect ‘food-friendly’ choice. Or, if you prefer, it’s also perfectly acceptable to place this wine on your "chillable reds" shelf and enjoy a few glasses...

87-90 points Burghound: "Note: Finottes is a monopole of the domaine but up to and including 2018, it has not been indicated as such on the label; however, it is now declared as a monopole. This is also agreeably fresh and bright with its aromas of violet, earth and wild red currant nuances. There is a bit more volume and more evident minerality on the equally vibrant medium weight flavors that also conclude in a dusty, youthfully austere and slightly more complex finish." (01/2024) 88-90 points Jasper Morris: "Sandy alluvial soil which can suffer in t...

92 points Decanter: "Le Difese 2022 is a blend of 55% Sangiovese and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, the former brought in from long-standing partners based in Chianti and Chianti Rufina – ‘In Bolgheri it's not easy to find Sangiovese,’ third-generation Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta explained. 2022 saw slightly lower production than 2021 due to a warm spring and a rainy autumn. Macerations were shorter than previous years, and the wine retains the same blend as last year as part of the estate's continuing plans to make Le Difese approachable almost immediatel...

The exceptional Tom's Foolery Distillery in Chagrin Falls, Ohio is easily one of the country's finest craft distillers. The tiny operation helmed by Tom and Lianne Herbruck and they specialize in using traditional methods to create innovative and exciting products. Using locally sourced grains and fruit the Herbruck's have now opened dedicated facility to the production of their excellent spirits, but when we met them, they were distilling on and old pot still in the shed behind their house. That special pot was purpose built for the Shaefferstown Distil...

Here's another stupendous cask from our friends at Wathen's. If you don't already know, Wathen's (bottled by father and son team Charles & Sam Medley) is one of the country's most well respected non-distillery producers. We refer to them as non-distillery producer rather than non-distiller producer because of course Charles Medley is one of Kentucky's most well respected distillers. He had decades of experience running the old Owensboro plant, before moving toward contract production. That means he's got a special relationship with his contracted produce...

Since 2002 Domaine Séailles is officially certified as organic in all of their wine and Armagnac production. They've foresworn chemicals pesticides and artificial fertilizers and instead opt for a biodynamic approach. While the brandies that have been made this way are still quite young by many Armagnac standards, they are lively, bright, and delicious in their own right (not to mention showing tremendous aging potential). If you're looking for a punchy young Armagnac with crystal-clear fruit and excellent pedigree, combined with a stewardship of the env...

93 points Vinous: "Youthfully intense, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino entices with a dusty blend of dried black cherries, incense, dark chocolate and spice. This floods the palate with soft, enveloping textures and ripe red and blue fruits as violet inner florals resonate and fine tannins slowly collect toward the close. It’s incredibly long and potent, with a staining of primary concentration that lingers on as cedar and a bitter twang of tart cranberry fade slowly. Piancornello is back to form in the 2019 vintage. 93 points Vinous: "The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino displays a vibrant ruby hue, wafting up with an earthy blend of flowery undergrowth and crushed rocks before giving way to dried strawberries. It opens with a pleasant inner sweetness and creamy textures. Fresh acidity enlivens its red fruits and rosy inner florals. Violet and lavender florals linger through the long perfumed finale as a hint of fine tannins tug at the palate. What a darling. 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino reveals layers of cherry licorice, leather, dark minerals, and smoke. It is full-bodied, with iron richness, and meaty red plum, mocha, and dried herbs. It has ripe tannins, with a fresh lift of acidity, and is a nicely balanced wine with a fairly long finish. 92 points Vinous: "The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is rich with a dark blend of crushed strawberries and plums complemented by minty herbs and camphor. This displays soft textures and a core of ripe wild berry fruits guided by brisk acidity. A web of fine-grained tannins saturates toward the close. The 2019 tapers off structured and long, leaving a dusty sensation. However, it's still fresh, as bitter hints of black tea and an air of sage resonate. This will take time to come fully into focus. Distilled and aged in Kentucky, Calumet's 8 year old is batched in less than 50 barrel batches and bottled at 45% ABV. The 74% corn, 18% rye, and 8% malted barley mash bill give a lovely balance between sweet candied corn notes and peppery rye. The rich oak influence lends a dramatic spice, and the finish is long and sweet. In the modern world of Kentucky bourbon, Calumet's 8 year delivers excellent value.
