Côtes de Gascogne is primarily known for the production of Armagnac; it wasn’t until the last 20 years or so that producers began to take table wine production seriously. Traditionally, these wines would have been distilled into Armagnac. Producers found that by fermenting at lower temperatures in stainless steel, they could develop and preserve more powerful aromatics. Though yields are high, costs have stayed low and the wines are consequently some of the best bargain whites in France. Domaine de Millet is first and foremost a fifth-generation Armagnac...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is the latest release from this Madiran showpiece estate on steep vineyards surrounding a grand chateau. The wine is black, firm and full of tannins while allowing room for swathes of dark fruits and a bold structure. It is still in the aging process. *Ranked #51 Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2018* (RV)" (06/2018) K&L Notes: Château Montus is the crown jewel in Alain Brumont's holdings. Purchased in 1980, it was Brumont's ideal property. Steep hillsides plus the gravelly vineyards with yellow and red clay subsoils made f...

2018 Château Haut-Monplaisir "Tradition" Cahors
New!
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a bold, ripe wine from a top Cahors producer. It has dense tannins without too much weight, giving aging potential to the ripe fruit. Spice and blackberry flavors have plenty of life ahead of them. Drink this fine wine from 2022. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (11/2020) K&L Notes: Cahors, the ancestral home of Malbec, has experienced a renaissance in recent years. In its heyday, the wines of Cahors held more prestige than those of its neighbors in Bordeaux, but when phylloxera struck in the late 19th century, it took decade...

2016 Château Bouscassé Madiran
Top Pick!
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Mainly Tannat with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine comes from the home estate of Madiran leader Alain Brumont. The wine balances bold tannins from all three grapes with the power of black fruits, acidity and density. It needs to age and will be ready from 2022. (RV)" (04/2020) K&L Notes: Alain Brumont is one of the stars of Madiran. In 1979 he inherited his father's estate, Château Bouscassé. With little experience in the wine industry, he quickly educated himself and began transforming the landscape of Madi...

David Schildknecht writes: "Henri Ramonteu’s Domaine Cauhape is home to a wide range of fascinating and versatile Jurancons, a genre unfortunately as yet little-appreciated in the United States."

2015 Château Haut-Monplaisir "Prestige" Cahors
New!
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "With vines on the third terrace above the river Lot, this estate occupies one of the top sites in Cahors. This wine provides a good example of the finesse from the property, never overpowering although still with structure and intense black fruits. Drink from 2021. (RV)" (06/2018) K&L Notes: Cahors, the ancestrale home of Malbec, has experienced a rennaissance in recent years. In its heyday, the wines of Cahors held more prestige than those of its neighbor Bordeaux but when phylloxera struck in the late 19th century, it too...

Bid on this bottle of 1995 Château Montus "Cuvée Prestige" Madiran ((94-96RP), 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: ". . . the 1995 Montus Cuvee Prestige, a 100% Tannat (the local grape), aged in 100% new oak. . . is a tannic wine, although this is not a wine that is harsh and astringent without the balancing fruit. The color is an opaque black. The wine possesses a magnificent, sweet, pure nose of cassis, black plums, and subtle new oak notes. Extraordinarily deep and full-bodied, with layers of concentrated, jammy fruit, a formidable tannin level, and a monster finish, this is unquestionably one of the great 1995s (and I am including all my top picks from Bordeaux). Do not be surprised if it outlives anything produced by Montus's more renowned siblings to the north. (RP)" (08/1996)
Starting Bid: $65.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2007 Clos Triguedina "Probus" Grand Vin de Cahors (93WE). Wine Enthusiast: "Despite the age, the color of this wine is still impressively vibrant and the ripe fruit and dense structure both speak of a wine that is still developing even nine years later. Such is longevity of a great Malbec. Blackberry fruit flavors charge through this wine that's reached the point of balance with the tannins. Drink now, although the wine will still be developing in 2018. (RV)" (06/2016)
