91 points John Gilman: "The 1996 Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil “Vieilles Vignes” is the first wine I have ever tasted from Domaine Taluau and I was quite impressed. Monsieur Taluau started with a couple of hectares of vines in 1970 and has planted more on his estate as the years have allowed; he was joined full-time at the domaine by his daughter Véronique and her husband, Thierry Foltzenlogel in 1993. The domaine’s ’96 Vieilles Vignes bottling of Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil is deep and complex on the nose, offering up scents of dark berries, cassis, tree ba...

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire. All his hand-harvested cuvées are based on vine age and soil composition, and the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with a light fining and no filtration before bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot planted in 1934, has power, depth and grace—it's no wonder why it's their flagship wine.

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the intrusion of oak-which he hasn't used in production since 1986. He was also the first producer in the appellation to begin domaine bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot of Cabernet Franc planted in 1934, is prized for its power, depth and grace. This flagship wine is meant to age, and this one is really coming into its own.

96 points Wine Spectator: "Tightly wound, with a lot in reserve, this has a piercing minerality that leads the way for floral, lemon verbena, lime, salted butter and thyme notes. Very long on the finish and very precise. (JM)" (09/2007) K&L Notes: According to wine writer James Turnbull: "No other wine born of silex soil has the firm and austere authority of Dagueneau’s; an intense and smoky character with a wonderful richness, perfect balance and an impressive persistance. Though very disciplined, it bewitches the palate with its innate charm and the ...

94 points Decanter: "Jo Landron is still undecided whether 36 months is too long to leave his wines on lees, but based on this, the results are fabulous. From the luminous golden hue to the long and powerful mineral finish, this is a gripping wine. Showing the characteristic smokiness of the site in La Haye-Fouassière, it has a firm backbone of fruity acidity and enormous concentration of flavour, but nothing is heavy or overdone. Savoury, saline and masterfully balanced. Biodynamic. (BB)" (09/2021)

2018 Domaine Dagueneau "Buisson-Renard" Pouilly-Fumé
Back In Stock!
93 points Vinous: "Returning in 2018 after 2017 was wiped out by frosts, this is an intense, wild 2018 Buisson Renard, like an untamed head of curls. In clear evidence at this early stage, it has floral and boxwood characters and a nutty oak-derived influence. There's even an intriguing note of peppermint on the sinewy, lengthy finish. In a mid-weight, linear style with a firm, phenolic finish that almost requires knife and fork. This needs more time in bottle to shed its austere frame, but if you're not in a hurry... 2013 Domaine du Haut Bourg "Origine" Muscadet Côtes de Grandlieu
Back In Stock!
93 points Chris Kissack, Winedoctor.com: "The Choblet brothers have already sold all of the 2012 vintage, and so have moved on to the 2013. From 78-year-old vines, this spent nine years on the lees, and was bottled in January 2022. It feels quite tense and incisive on the nose, a little introverted perhaps, possibly a hangover from its very recent bottling (a few weeks before my tasting). The palate feels very fresh, with powdered chalk and a reductive trait that also speaks of the lees it left behind. The palate has a beautifully supple character, sinew...

2019 Domaine Dagueneau "Blanc, Etc." Pouilly-Fumé
Back In Stock!
When an iconic winemaker passes away, especially long before his time, oenophiles mourn. And they wonder. Will whoever takes over the estate ever be able to meet their expectations? In the case of Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau, who took over the family estate after his father Didier Dagueneau's tragic death in 2008, the answer is yes. Recognized by Wine & Spirits Magazine in their recent "30 Under 30" feature, the 28-year-old has "picked up the role masterfully and courageously," according to Olivier Jullien of Mas Jullien, a close family friend. "He manages ...

2019 Domaine Dagueneau "Silex" Pouilly-Fumé
Back In Stock!
Despite the tragic passing of Didier in 2008, Domaine Dagueneau continues to produce some of the world's most collectible, compelling and age-worthy examples of Sauvignon Blanc. Didier's son Louis-Benjamin and daughter Charlotte carry forward their father's tradition of extreme commitment to quality and devotion to terroir. Sourced from low-yield, sixty-year-old vines grown on flint soils, "Silex" is consistently the most racy and mineral-driven of Dagueneau's wines. 2018 was an outstanding vintage in the Loire Valley. Don't get caught sleeping on this w...
