One of K&L's very finest buys from France, this is a reserve cuvée, made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit and minerality, and bright citrus notes. The wines of this family domaine have been a staple here at K&L since the 1994 vintage when Franck and Betty Millet drove a long way (to Beaune!) on Easter Sunday to meet Clyde and crew to present the wines. We love these wines for their fresh...

97 points James Suckling: "With almost pungent minerality and gigantic concentration, this awesome Savennieres shows how great dry whites from the chenin blanc grape can be. On paper this must have plenty of acidity, but it’s so beautifully integrated that you don’t think about it. With some aeration this develops a wonderful nose of honeysuckle. Extremely long wet-stone finish. From organically grown grapes. " (02/2023) K&L Notes: Domaine Fournier Longchamps (aka FL) is a family estate in Rochefort sur Loire, covering 43 hectares across Anjou, Savenni...

In 1995, Guillaume Reynouard purchased his first 4 hectares of cabernet franc alongside an old mansion in need of repair in the village of Le Puy Notre Dame. He began the restoration of the property and converted the vineyards to organic farming. Receiving Ecocert certification in 1998, the next hurdle was biodynamics. By 2010, the estate received biodynamic certification through Biodyvin.

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire. All his hand-harvested cuvées are based on vine age and soil composition, and the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with a light fining and no filtration before bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot planted in 1934, has power, depth and grace—it's no wonder why it's their flagship wine.

94 points John Gilman: "The 2022 vintage of les Grézeaux from the Baudry family is a great bottle in the making. This is nicely measured in ripeness for such a warm summer, coming in at an even thirteen percent, but no doubt, the fifty-plus year-old vines here navigate extremes during the summer far better than younger vines. The wine’s bouquet is deep, complex and very refined, wafting from the glass in a mix of sweet cassis, black cherries, cigar wrapper, gravelly soil tones, tree bark, espresso and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, ful...

90 points Vinous: "The 2023 Sancerre Blanc is a very well-made example. From a tricky vintage with high yields, this impresses with its tenderness, balance and elegance. Biodynamic farming and hand harvesting, among other careful handling techniques, can be sensed in the wine's delicate texture. Aromatically, it's pretty with elderflower, ripe lemon and red apple. If you're going to buy Sancerre from 2023, you won't go wrong here. It is one of the best releases of the vintage to date. (RG)" (05/2024)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine has an aromatic nose of black plum, vanilla baking spice, dried white blossom and a touch of hay. Round on the palate, red raspberry escapes a layer of black fruit towards the end of the taste and revels in its victory on the finish that begs for another sip. (RS)" (12/2024) K&L Notes: The wines of Aurore Dezat are a regular feature in our wine club offerings, and her vibrant Sancerre is an easy favorite among K&L staff as well. Aurore makes wine on her family estate in Sury-en-Vaux, which was established by her gr...

Located in the village of Bue, one of the pinnacle producing regions in the Sancerre appellation, the Crochet family is well represented. Dominique and Janine Crochet are the fifth generation in viticulture along their family tree.

Jacky Blot discovered wine as a junior pâtissier while working at a restaurant in Paris in his younger days. Eventually deciding to follow the winemaking track in life, he ultimately came to acquire the Domaine la Taille aux Loups in Montlouis-sur-Loire, some twenty years ago, and eventually added the Domaine de la Butte in Bourgueil to his portfolio. The two appellations both reside along the Loire and perhaps do not have the same notoriety as their kissing cousins, Vouvray and Chinon. But what Jacky does is extremely special and his wines rival the qua...

The Crochet domaine evolved through the marriage of the Crochet and Picard families, with the latter family having commenced its vineyard holdings in the Sancerre district as early as 1765. It was the great-grandfather of Lucien Crochet who first installed that part of the family in the region and it was in 1934 that the first bottling of wines occurred at the domaine. The domaine now is under the direction of Lucien Crochet and his son, Gilles. Importer's notes: "The grapes for this basic cuvée of Sancerre are sourced from the vineyards in Bué, Vinon an...

94 points Vinous: "The 2022 Montlouis-sur-Loire Clos de Mosny Monopole is a clay-flint-based parcel, and you can see that in its focus and line. There's flinty, smoky, salty reduction going on here, but it's well-judged and lends an extra layer of complexity, as well as providing additional tension. Excellent precision defines the mid-palate, but there's still a generosity and softness that lends charm with structure. Long and classy, it’s amazing that such a warm vintage can provide such togetherness and balance. (RG)" (05/2024) K&L Notes: Jacky Blot ...

94 points Vinous: "The 2022 Montlouis-sur-Loire Les Hauts de Husseau hails from a site with vines between 80 and 110 years old. It’s a finely scented, silken style that provides a mellow sense of effortlessness on the mid-palate before it structures itself toward the close. The chalky nature of the soil provides a fine coating of texture and structure, which adds persistence and line. It finishes long, calm and focused, with notes redolent of pastry, ripe apple and chalky citrus. (RG)" (05/2024) K&L Notes: Jacky Blot discovered wine as a junior pâtissi...

91 points Vinous: "The 2022 Montlouis-sur-Loire Clos Michet is a seductive, charming style with a silken texture initially—you can't help but be sucked in by it. And yet, it has surprising freshness and line with just 12.5% alcohol, tying it all together as it moves through the palate. Salty and floral notes join pastry and subtle smoky bacon, while oak tones linger on the finish. This is smart, pure and well-made. 94 points James Suckling: "This stunning dry Vouvray has such an exciting energy on the simultaneously focused and creamy medium-bodied palate. I love the juicy core, then the way the wet stone character builds to an impressive intensity in the long, precise finish. Still really youthful and with great aging potential. From biodynamically grown grapes." (10/2024) 93 points Vinous: "The 2023 Vouvray Sec Le Haut-Lieu is a pure, refined, seamless style with pear, pineapple and nectarine flavors. It boasts excellent clarity and refinement, with lovely fres...

The Vacheron vineyards are all close to the village of Sancerre itself and have been in the family for 9 generations. Today, this domaine is run by two cousins, the Messieurs Vacheron. Both have sons studying viticulture to carry on the family tradition. The vineyards cover 34 hectares with two principal soil types; "silex" and "caillotte" or chalk. Organic viticulture has been a goal of the family for a number of years; as of 2003, the entire estate is certified organic. The following year the winery was converted completely to biodynamic agriculture—to...

90 points Vinous: "The 2022 Montlouis-sur-Loire Clos du Hochet hails from a vineyard with a very shallow clay-flint topsoil over chalk that tends to lose the sun early. The resulting wine is lithe in style with a firm citrus line. However, it has mid-palate weight and concentration that counters that linearity. Talc, white flowers, pastry and citrus flavors combine on the long, athletic finish. (RG)" (05/2024) K&L Notes: Jacky Blot discovered wine as a junior pâtissier while working at a restaurant in Paris in his younger days. Deciding to follow the w...

93 points Vinous: "The 2022 Les Blanchais is a finely textured style with precision and focus. This is all about its texture and aromatic restraint with fennel, citrus and oatmeal aromas. The 2022 offers excellent balance and ripe acidity with line and length. It provides a high level of concentration and innate power within its core. Lots of chalky intensity coats the mouth. 96 points James Suckling: "One of the great dry white wines of the Loire. This dry chenin blanc is rich and concentrated, but also graceful and delicate. Full-bodied but so elegant and precise, with a wet stone minerality that builds in a spectacular manner in the very long, refined finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold." (10/2024) 95 points Vinous: "The 2023 Vouvray Sec Le Mont is precise, upright and flinty. It's less immediately charming than the styles we've seen in recent warmer vintages, but it was only tasted three weeks after ...

Château d’Epiré is an 11-hectare estate. This bottling is sourced from 30- 55-year-old vines in schist soils. From importer Kermit Lynch: "Despite the beauty and timelessness of the building structures, it is the vineyard for which the domaine is best known. The Savennières from Epiré is regarded as Grand Cru. The domaine works primarily with three parcels: La Croix Picot, Le Parc, and Le Hu-Boyau. It is the latter that sits just above another famous vineyard, La Coulée de Serrant. The soils here are rich, and the microclimate is ideal. Southern and sout...

95 points John Gilman: "There is no Demi-Sec from the Le Haut Lieu vineyard in 2023, but the Le Mont version seems destined to ultimately be ranked as one of the finest wines to be found anywhere along the Loire River in this vintage! The bouquet is pure, precise and already beautifully complex, wafting from the glass in a mix of sweet quince, apple, incipient notes of mirabelle, chalky minerality, a gentle touch of lanolin, bee pollen, orange peel and a lovely floral topnote of white lilies. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and supremely eleg...

91 points John Gilman: "The 2020 Jasnières Sec from Sébastien Cornille is quite a bit riper than the 2021 version (fourteen percent versus 12.5 percent octane), which fully underscores how different these two growing seasons were in the eastern Loire Valley. The bouquet is deep, ripe and zesty, hopping from the glass in a mix of fresh pineapple, sweet quince, chalky soil, a hint of beeswax and a topnote of orange peel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and plush at the core, with fine focus, a lovely gridle of acidity, good soil undertow and a ...

Vincent Gaudry uses fruit from all three soils types in Sancerre--chalk, silex and clay-limestone marl--to make Le Tournebride, a rarirty for the region, and a boon to this wine. The chalky soils contribute perfumy grapefruit and lime notes, while the silex adds a smoky mineral dimension and the clay-limestone marls give the wine weight and structure. The result: A wonderfully complete representation of all that Sancerre has to offer--fruit, mineral and substance.

94 points John Gilman: "The 2023 Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec from Domaine Huët is another beautiful example of the vintage. As is often the case these days, this wine comes in a half point higher in octane than the Le Mont version, tipping the scales at 13.5 percent alcohol. The wine offers up a superb aromatic constellation of sweet quince, yellow plum, beeswax, honeycomb, chalky minerality, lanolin and a topnote of citrus blossoms. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced, with a lovely core of fruit, just a whisper of...
